The following is a Vivendi Universal Games Press Release on the upcoming Futurama Video Game:
LOS ANGELES, April 25 (PRNewswire) -- Vivendi Universal Games announced
today the development of Futurama for the PlayStation(R)2 computer
entertainment system and the Xbox(TM) video game system from Microsoft.
Futurama, developed by Unique Development Studios in Sweden and published by
Vivendi Universal Games, is a comprehensive third-person platform action game,
which features four playable characters, over twenty levels, puzzles and
platform gameplay, and special combat moves all combined with the humor,
character development and innovation of the highly popular & award winning
television show.
The game begins when Professor Farnsworth sells Planet Express to the evil
businesswoman Mom, who now owns over fifty percent of the Earth, making her
the supreme ruler. Your goal is to prevent Mom from universal domination by
taking the Planet Express Crew back in time to stop the deal. Fry, Bender,
Leela and Dr. Zoidberg must be guided through familiar scenes from the show:
Planet Express, the Red Light District, New New York, and a host of new
environments. With each character's unique skills, players can master their
power ups and complete their tasks to lead them to victory against Mom and the
'hover-bot death troopers.'
The gameplay and detailing have been developed in conjunction with
Matt Groening to ensure an authentic Futurama experience. Matt Groening,
series creator, said, "Futurama's sci-fi themes fit perfectly with
sophisticated video game technology, helping you imagine what it would be like
to be alive in the 31st Century. It involves blasting a lot of aliens."
The main character and original voice actors have been used throughout the
game and series writer J. Stewart Burns, who won an EMMY(R) for scripting the
classic Futurama episode, Roswell That Ends Well, has written the game's
storyline. Gamers will also be treated to about 30 minutes of new Futurama
cinematic footage.
Futurama will be available in Q3, 2003 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox for a
suggested retail price of $49.99 with an expected ESRB "Teen" rating.
