Great story telling by Matt and David, great way to introduce the four central characters, and great way to set up the premise of the show. Not to mention, plenty of very funny jokes.

Possibly my favorite first episode to any cartoon series ever. I thought it was very well done and did a great job of introducing the main chracters and fitting a lot of story into 22-30 min. Possibly my favorite Futurama episode as well.

Not just a fantastic pilot, but one of the best episodes in the series. The story is absolutely epic and does a perfect job of setting up the premise of the show as well as introducing us to the setting and the rich, colorful, complex, hillarious, and distinctly unique main characters. Comedically, this episode does not miss a single beat with plenty of clever and funny jokes. One huge error I can't believe they didn't catch before the episode aired is that the whole world does not celebrate the new year at the same time. Overlooking that giant mistake, this is a fantastic episode.

Woah, woah. Great pilot. Really does a great job introducing everything and although some concepts in it are hardly ever touched on again (you gotta do what you gotta do, career chips) after watching this episode you can go on to almost any other and it makes sense.

The perfect first episode; it accomplishes everything that a pilot is supposed to accomplish. It introduces us to the characters in a funny and compelling way; it sets up some of the major arcs that will drive the series (Fry's feelings about being frozen and his past; Leela being orphaned and wanting to find her parents; Bender's love of booze and wise-assery; and, of course, Planet Express and all the wacky intergalactic fun to be had there), and it's just plain old funny. It's not only one of the best episodes of the first season--it's one of the best episodes of the series. And that's no small feat, considering how lousy some pilots are.
