Fry is such a slob that he is forced to move out of the Planet Express offices. Bender's apartment is too cramped for the both of them, so they look for a new place to live.

Easily a 5, one of my favourate episodes that shows true feelings & emotion which proves you can give a robot feelings. It's a buddy buddy kind of an episode testing Fry & Benders friendship.

I love this episode, it has many funny moments & of course the excellent All My Circuits TV program & all of the characters from the gang are used.

Cool episode, reminds me a bit of those budy-kind-of-movies. Great gags around Benders's appartement, and above all: Sober Bender (no booze!) but acting like a deperate boozer with a rusty beard! I really was rolling on the floor to this!

Good, but not fantastic. "All My Circuits" was fun, as was the great apartment search.

This one really was a one-joke episode, leading up to the punchline at the very end. Closet, indeed.

Definitely one of the best Episodes...Let me just give reasons for my descision to give it a 5:

1.) The theme gag. "As seen on TV". lol. Could not have been better.

2.) Fry waking up and pressing down benders antenna. Damn, I was rolling on the floor.

3.) NNY is infested with owls. What? Did hear right? It's so senseless it HAS to be funny!

4.) Fry doing things a student of today would do in his filthy flat. And he's using the planet express ship's engines to dry his hair. God help me, I'm dying of laughing ;-)))

5.) I could go on this way describing every single scene in detail. This episode was one half-hour joke (except for the commercials, but I solved this problem by buying the DVDs!! ;))) and it makes me wish I lived in NNY!

Favourite quotes:
Bender: "That's right, we want some money! Wait, what's this about Fry?"

Fry: "Hey! Why is the TV getting smaller?"

Scene: Bender and Fry in Bender's apartment...
Fry: "Ah, listen bender. Where's your bathroom?"
Bender: "Bath-what?"
Fry: "Bathroom"
Bender: "What room?"
Fry: "Bathroom!"
Bender: "What what?"

MAN, I thought this was the end *still smiling when thinking of that moment* I didn't hear the next scenes of this episode when I saw it for the first time, cause I was laughing so hard ;)

And then the Professor talking on the phone. "To shreds you say..." LOL!!!!!!

Definitely one of the damn best episodes!

This episode is brilliant. I think It is one of the best since the Simpsons episode Bart gets an f. I think Bender is kinder and more caring than he usually is. They look for apartments and find one which is just right. The only problem is with the T. V. because Bender's Anttena can only work the T.v. with satilight and the T.V. can only connect with cable.
Fry makes Bender sujest to move in by findidg him a place in the broom closet'
" Hey i can barely move, It's perfect''

One of the best FUTURAMA episodes. With the series starting off with "Space Pilot 3000", following up with "The Series has Landed", and logically following up with this episode's story line, in my opinion made the first 3 episodes even better then they are by themselves.

Bender really stands out in this episode as one of TV:s funniest charcaters.
Big butt - There on my cellphone to!
Bender - Lady I belevie oyur mistaken.
Bender on the phone - Wow that lady's got a HUGE ass.
Bender - Those could be anyones thoughts fatass.
I just had to write that for all of you to go and check it out.

First thing's first... Living in south-east England i am cut out of the Yank loop. Why is all the stuff about New Jersey funny?
Good, now that's out the way.

I was laughing at this ep before i saw it. Just coz of the title, what could be better for a story about a robot roommate?

On the plus side: Bender's 'grand tour' (LOL!), the Anti drinking bout (LOL, Long boring Geology Lecture!!!) and Amy on that bonsai bannana skin!

Best line?

Great episode, good plot, nice character development. I liked the apartment search, the joke about New Jersey, Bender seeming drunk when sober, Bender's philosophy that everyone is a jerk, and All My Circuits. Professor Farnsworth is getting funnier by the episode.

Fry: Well, I give up. What's the catch?
Landlord: No catch. Although we are technically in New Jersey.

Fry: Not one place even remotely livable!

An episode I can watch over and over and over again (thanks to the DVD). Great, sentimental writing and some hilarious montage-style sequences, especially when Bender and Fry check out each new apartment. Calculon is ingenius, and sentimental Bender is a plus, too. FanTAStic. Sweet without going out of character with Bender and Fry or losing the sharp humor. And as a college student in New York and a permanent address in New Jersey, I fully sympathize with the difficulty of finding an apartment "remotely livable."
Just one question: How is Fry still living there without a bathroom? Did they put one in?

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a more "down to Earth" episode. What's especially good is the way that Bender's character is developed in this episode and the pattern that starts here of him getting 'sober' everytime he feels rejected.

BTW, I'm also English and am none the wiser about what New Jersey is like, but that joke made me laugh anyway. I like jokes about places that might actually offend some people. ;)

The only real complaint I have with this episode is that the dialogue feels a little stilted and a few of the character drawings are a bit crummy (more so than the previous two episodes). Fortunately, neither of these traits become a regular habit.

"I hate the people who love me, and they hate me!"

Having recently discovered the joy that is Futurama (I just got thawed out) via DVD Year One... this ep is one of the best I've seen. Even the throwaway jokes - Bender and Fry looking at the Esher apartment; "i don't know if we wanna pay for an extra dimension we're not gonna use" - were sharp and on the money. The characters were pitch-perfect.

This episode has a great "human" feel to it, i remember the dvd commentaries David X and Matt were saying how the network wanted a down to earth episode...and this episode is, but it's brilliant. One of the best of season 1.

The introduction of Calculon and All My Circuits, the friendship between Bender & Fry, that old lady who runs the building they move into, whatshername "I don't wanna know what you're doing in here with the lobster, the one eyed lady and the chinese girl" and Farnsworths "To shreds you say...To shreds you say".

And the final shot was beautiful, the view from the window in bender's closet, with the sunset...looked amazing.

!Hola! Me llamo Benderfan12...

Goddamn it, that Spanish class was a waste of money. I can't remember how to say anything except, me llamo Benderfan12 and !Hola!.
Well anywho, I don't think all you readers out there want to hear my problems (and if you did well too f***ing bad)and I'll just get on with the review.

Wow, I say that a lot, don't I. Have I ever acutally started a review without some bulls*** about myself?

I just don't know.

Now I'm gonna break away from my self-centeredness and start the review.

Seriously.

DA DA DA DA
!Here comes el review!

I, Roomate is the third episode ever in the series now known as Futurama. ( The title that Matt Groening had started with, that I'm sure none of you are aware of, is actually "That 3000's Show", but the producers of that 70's show sued Matt Groening for all he was worth and then Matt came up Futurama, instead. Greay story, huh.)
Anyway I, Roomate deals with Phillip J. Fry's slovenly manner while living at the Planet Express Headquarters. His lifestyle has become so repulsive to the rest of his co-workers (minus Bender) that he is kicked out from living at aforementioned headquarters.
Bender offers him a place to stay at his apt. and Fry takes him up on said offer.
When it turns up that Bender lives in a closet-like structure Fry dosen't like said apt. as much and when one of Farnsworth's friends die Fry and Bender move out of there and into said other apt.
When it turns up that Benders antennae blocks the satellite T.V. reception Bender leaves and goes sober (which to a human is the equivelant of being drunk, but since robots need alcohol to stay together it is urgent that Bender be drinking beer (or any other alcoholic beverage) most of the time).
When it comes time to mke the decision to cut off his antennae and live with Fry or do the opposite Bender makes a moving descision to...well if you haven't seen the episode I won't give it away and if you have seen the episode then you already know anyway.

O.K., that wasn't really a review. That was just a re-telling of almost everything that happens in this episode.
If you were looking to read a review, well here it comes, now.

DA DA DA DA
Now, with all sincerity, here comes el review...seriouly, this time.

My opinions on I, Roomate are mostly great except for one or two things which I will mention in the upcoming review.
Anyway, this episode is,for the most part, quite funny, and its charachter development and charachter situations are excellent, as are the charachter interactions.
I actually can feel Bender's emotions (even though, yes, he's a robot), his emotions are particularly strong, especially in this episode.
His and Fry's interaction is very well written and their friendship is tested in this episode quite soundly.
And did I mention it's pretty much freakin' funny.
Though most of the humor in this episode is fresh and very funny, some of it (the humor)came out sour, particularly in the sequence when Fry and the gang are out apartment shopping. In one of the apts.(after they had struck out with an underwater apt. and an apt. witha parellel time zone) Fry says something like, "...Very nice. So what's the catch". The realtor replies, "There is no catch, though technically it is in New Jersey."
In the next scene we see the gang back at P.E. Headquarters and Fry exclaims,"Not even one place remotley livable."
I found that to be very offensive on the grounds that I am a New Jersey resident and my neighborhood is very nice and very, very much livable.
And I epecially found that comment to be total bulls*** coming from Fry's mouth of all people, the person who systematically destroyed a perfectly good apt. given to him by one of Farnsworth dead friends, and then after destroying the place triumphantly declared,"It's a sty".
So of all people he should have been the last person to decline a perfectly good Garden State apartment, if he was just to turn it into a "sty" anyway.
And what is it with Futurama to alays make fun of N.J. anyway, epecially in the early episodes. People don't even give N.J. a chance. All people see is the rotten-ass, polluted Turn Pike, and they think they've viewed all of N.J.
Well I've got news for those near-sighted sons of bitches: You better open your eyes and see what N.J. really has in store. Ever heard the phrase don't judge a book by it's cover. Well, listen, don't judge N.J. by the Turn Pike.
Sure we have a couple ghettos, but doen't every state (ever been to the lower east side village of N.Y.C.). But in the core New Jersey is a state with lush, green towns and great parks and attractions, not to mention gardens (why do you think we're called the Garden State).
So come on down and give New Jersey a visit today.
You never know what's in store.

BACK IN THE REAL WORLD

Damn, you really ranted on about about New Jersey?
You sounded like a f***ing travel agent or somethin',dawg.

I think almost every Episode of the first season is great. I just bought it on DVD. I'm from Europe and I always wanted to watch it in english and I really like it. Here we still have to wait a few weeks till we'll see the last episode of the whole series. So I don't know ist yet but I read about it and about one thing I read I was especially happy.
Well I, Roommate is a cool ep and I really don't regred that I bought the season one. Meanwhile I like Futurama even more than The Simpsons.

If this isn't the best episode ever made,it's on a very short list of the best. For some reason, the pad Bender and Fry inhabit for a while (the one with the BIG screen tv) reminds me of Bob Newhart's apartment on the old Newhart show from the '70s.The homage sequence to 'The Odd Couple' is terrific, and we get a nice exploration of Fry and Bender's friendship.Episodes like this one made Futurama seem like the best thing on tv.

The part where Leela is going back and forth with Zap after she slept with him is freaking hilarious. I was cracking up.

One of my least favorites. Boring episode, not very funny.

This episode does a great job of establishing Fry and Bender's friendship (which would later on get a lot of play--maybe *too* much, in the case of season six--in the series). It's also funny as hell, and one of the best episodes of season one. And how can you hate on an episode that introduces both Hattie *and* "All My Circuits"? It's impossible!

Something is very, very wrong with the reviews of the first season. This is probably one of the best Futurama episodes ever. Smart story, good character interaction, amusing and surprising twist at the end... and yet, no less than 5 episodes of the mediocre new season are rated higher than this? Is there a particular reason why no episode of Season 1 - which I view as the best - is rated higher than 90% and most lower? Geez...

I could talk about all the great jokes in this one, Bender's dream, Calculon, "technically in New Jersey"... but all of that has been mentioned before. So I can just repeat myself: A fantastic episode with a ridiculously low score.

The first episode of Futurama I'd ever seen. Thus it holds a special place in my heart. Fantastic episode.

The series is sadly going deeper already.

The first act was genius, as it was pretty funny, and also showed some futuristic things like an underwater house. It had the mummy meat, and still fun to watch. But I didn't like that Bender was treated so harshly for his antenna.

The second act was purely good though. It had the drunk sober robots joke and it and it also had some kind of message through the ending.

Overall, nice episode, but people were just to harsh to Bender.
