A great episode which I would have given a 4.5 to if I could. I love the Sewer Mutant stuff & Bender flushing Nibbler down the toilet followed by himself. Some very good jokes & uses emotion in a clever way making it the obvious substance of the episode

This was an overall pretty good episode, but there are much better out there. By far the highlight is when Fry runs into the bathroom where Bender is flushing himself and yells "BENDER! Have you seen my sombrero?"

Good episode, not one of the best, but it was still good.
I like the bit with ender and the rat poison, plus him making his cake was funny too.

This episode did contain one of the funniest lines ever though:
Farnsworth:"And so we say goodbye to our beloved pet Nibbler, who'd gone to a place where i to hope soon to go...The toilet"

I shall now open a sound file of me having watched this episode, going to see the 'gotfuturama' rating.

Ha Ha! 'What prize do i get? CASH?' Ha. *sound of button being depressed on computer* 'i need to tinker in it. cant you use a pot plant like Fry?' HA HA! *sound of fan starting up* *irritating windows opening theme that i cant be bu****ed to get rid of* *klik* *wizzzzzz* *ding* *klik* 'ok ok ok ok ok! aaaaaand..! oh... seventy eight percent...'

OK, i'll admit it, its not the best episode, but it's got some of the best jokes and a really good plotline.

So now i must allow you to rate it higher. yes, if by allow i mean, force.

Good, but slightly below season 1 standards. It wasn't a great (production) season 2 premiere.

Bad things: Why were the mutants believed to be just an urban legend? In "I, Roommate" Bender said "Or we could live underground with the mutants." Worst of all, they got rid of the teasers before the intro. I liked those.

Those things are minor. This was still a good episode.

I like the part where Farnsworth
was trying to fine-tune the empathy
chip...classic. First Bender wants
to stuff his gullet (which he doesn't have) with crab cakes, then
he feels like he isn't as smart as
Leela, but is happy cuz he's prettier, and then he feels like a
one-eyed mutant with waaaaay too
dramatic emotions or something and
who is very nosy.(I am not nosy!)

Saw it for the first time yesterday on Adult Swim, I loved it! Bender's empathy(spelling) chip, Fry's "Damn", Leela being a "virigin", and Leela's pondering on things she wanted were all great.

I also saw this episode yesterday, and thought it was hilarous! My favorite parts were the "virgin", Bender flushing himself down in pieces, the sombrero, Dr. Farnsworth comment on the toilet, Bender seeing Nibbler in the sewer with the monster behind him, "Say what?", and many many more. One of the best episodes of the series!!

There's one thing that bothers me about this episode: I gotta say I found the jokes with the empathy chip somewhat patronising. The way that Bender would anounce his change in mood ("Anger, huh?" or "Uh-oh, jealousy!" for example) ruined what could've been a much funnier and wittier joke by being too obvious.

Besides that, there's a lot of good dialogue in this episode. Particularly the Professor's line about the toilet. I love the continuity of Leela's Zapp Brannigan shame that never ceases to haunt her until around season 3.

Also, kudos for hiding Leela's parents in the episode as this and the Nibbler shadow in "Space Pilot 3000" as they displayed that Groening and Cohen had the future of the show in mind when they wrote episodes instead of just the past.

For some reason I can't put my finger on, this episode is one of my favorites of all the ones I've seen so far. Seeing Leela at the pub and then Bender getting all the emotions rocked. Same with Bender laughing about Calculon's misfortunes. And as always, Nibbler kicked ass. I don't know how Frank Welker does all those voices, and as a maker of many noises(hell, my dream job would be to do voices on an animated sitcom), I gotta say he rules. And Billy West. I also found weird in this episode that Leela doesn't shed a tear the whole first season, and suddenly in this episode she's crying half the time, then in episodes 4, 5, 12, etc...of the second series. Maybe I just like a woman who's vulnerable. Who knows. But this one just rocks.

PS: Also, in my opinion, this one had one of the most disgusting lines..."Spoon's in the foot powder!"

okay so 78% is a good reting but come on people this episode is a classic,one of the best on season 2.the jokes are spot on and the visual humour is great too,every store in the sewer is a dry cleaners,three armed guy doing inverted commas,lay off him you know hes only got one ear and frys "thanks for covering is a classic".all the jokes highlighted in other reviews are the usual no brainners that idiots think are hilarious,like people falling over or getting hit by stuff.you people have no taste.knock this episode up to a 90% at least.a test i demand a test!!

The whole sub people plot was a genious idea but was not carried out in a very funny way.
It is really funny watching Bender scream and act like a girl though.
Compared to the Slurm Factory this is a big let down but the next episode that takes place in the sewer civilization(Teenage mutant Leela's Hurles)makes up for this episode.
In a way this is the start of the rollercoaster that drops for the worst in the dreadful late season 4 and season 5 episodes.
Alot of people like this though so don't take my view as judgement see it for yourself.

Just wanted to add this to see if anyone noticed. When Bender is flushing himself down the toilet they show his head and arms. I just think its funny how it cuts away and shows fry walking in the door.I know the reason is because how the hell could Bender fit his "core body" down the toilet its bigger than the damn toilet itself. Just wondered if anyone else was like wait how did his body get down there?

This episode reminded me of a young Tristan Gillett on a friday mid afternoon. It sparkled and sprinkled with fire and passion and therefore delighted to the point of no return.

A great start to the 2nd production season.
There are plenty of fantastic jokes and the plot establishes the sewer mutants which are a fantastic aspect of the Futurama universe.

A very underrated episode. It has some great character interaction, a lot of funny moments, and the all-important introduction of the sewer mutants. It took a while to grow on me, and it's probably one of the more forgettable episodes of the series for most, but it has quite a lot going for it.
