This was a great episode. Absolutely hilarious. Best episode of television to take place under water. Dr. Zoidbergs shell accidently burns down because Benders lit cigar. "This just raises further questions!"

A brilliant episode, especially the first half. I love Frys sarcastic comment "Hook, my arse" then Bneder says "Ok" and does it. The first half has brilliant interaction between the whole P.E.crew too.

I liked it when they went underwater but it did'nt quite seem as good as the first half. I love the mermaid called Umbriel, she is really well drawn and the sexyest cartoon character I've ever seen, well the top half anyway. Overall a brilliant episode.

The best episode ever!!!
Including the best part in the whole series when fry says:
"there are all sorts of strange sea creatures in the future, like Dr. Zoidberg!" (points at Zoidberg that is working on his "garden"!)

-I laughed so much at this episode I thought i was going to choke!

I loved the first half of the episode. The fishing trip was a great way to show the PE crew as friends. Having fun, taking friednly jabs at eachother, competing etc. I even laughed at Amy's remarks to Leela about the boots. These 10 first minutes was topnotch Futurama.

The next 10 minutes with the ship on the bottom of the Atlantic was great too. Zoidy was as always very funny. The entire epsiode up until the Atlanta part was topcaracter allaround. Fry unknowingly saving the PE crew was funny, the hunt for food, the pressure suppository, the ST references, the "ocean madness" thing, etc. Brilliant.

And then they introduced Atlanta. Meh, the song was okay, but Atlanta and it's inhabitants just wasn't funny. It was a nice twist on the Atlantis-myth, but they should've made the inhabitants, and the story a lot more interesting.

Luckily Zoidy had a few more scenes to make this episode finish on a high note.

I'll call it a 4. The bland Atlanta part hurt. The rest was brilliant.

Wow, what a great episode. As for the Atlanta song, the guy who sang it is Donovan, a singer from the 60ies and 70ies. And guess what, one of his most famous songs is "Atlantis", with an intro exactly like the one in this episode. I didn't even know Donovan was still singing!

And I loved the cigar bit, and the "Hey, where's my parasol? - It wasn't there when I took your umbrella.". Really priceless.

The whole episode in itself worked great, kind of like the pilot (when they made their getaway during the firework display).

Top notch!

Definitely one of the best Futurama episodes ever. The underwater parts were great, but I also agree that the "Atlanta" myth could be better developed - but I don't think that was the point of the story, and if we are asked to ignore that flaw while being given some of the best belly-aching-from-laughing jokes ("Are we in international waters?"; "Yes, we are"; "Goose has landed, repeat, Goose has landed" or the scenes of Dr. Zoidberg's cosy home) and a more sensitive portrait of Fry than usual make this a real gem. Thumbs up!

Living in Atlanta since 1982, I can really appreciate the humor of the episode. Congrats to the artists - a great comic rendition of downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield airport. Your map of North Georgia is better than most of the graphics on local news shows. Nice touch with Lakes Allatoona, SIdney Lanier, I-285 Loop and major highways. One of the very funny episodes - or it just might be the caffeine.

I have to second the comments about this episode made by Atlanta residents - the MOST accurate parody of this city that I have ever seen/heard...and I'm saying that as someone who loves it here! The idea of turnign the city into an island to truly be a tourist destination and the fact that a Ted Turner statue sinks the city are brilliant strokes. I just want to know how the writer knows my city so well!

This classic episode might be my favorite Futurama episode of all time. Non-stop hilarity. Maybe it helped the show for Fry to have a "love interest" and not to be obsessed with Leela all the time--why do all shows, including sitcoms and even satires like Futurama, have to get the main characters into absurd romances with one another? Is it the last refuge of a lazy writing team? Not that Fry-Leela always doesn't work ("Time Keeps on Slippin'" is another favorite of mine).

A very high-quality episode. There's not a lot I can say about the plot or jokes that hasn't already been said or is worth saying, but one thing I would like to comment on is that the writers did a fantastic job in this episode of keeping all the characters believable.
Fry's stupidity and determination was spot on as was the Professor's combination of scientific knowledge and senility (and his obsession with sepositories!), Zoidberg's 'homeowner' sub-plot and the fact that no-one cared when he was going to stay behind, Amy's bitchy comment about Leela's boots and Hermes' love of bureaucracy.
Also, special mention to Bender who was absolutely on fire during the fishing scene ("Quit exaggerating, Fry!", "It wasn't there when I took your umbrella," "Honk if Bender is great" etc.). But also, in the scene where the crew bid Fry farewell, Bender's line is simply "I'll miss you buddy," and sobbing, which I thought was a brilliant touch when they could've just crammed another joke in there. It really makes Bender seem genuine in this episode.

Not even the positive representation of Coca-Cola could ruin this baby!

One of my favourites from production season #2. A stream of great gags, allowing for some classic character moments, particularly Zoidberg I felt. And some awesome absurdities too - a *mandatory* fishing license? Relocating a city to the middle of an ocean?

But some of my favourite jokes are 'Fry logic', that's his completely misinformed, weird or plain stupid actions and words that turn up in most episodes. Here we had him cramming oxygen into a suitcase to set out underwater, and later, running away from Atlanta, wishing the mermaid Umbriel was fish the top half, and woman the bottom half - as if that would solve everything! Moments like that took this episode to another level of greatness.

Like the best episodes, I find it rewatchable - some of the actors' line deliveries, and the animations, are just priceless. Also the montage of Fry and Umbriel (backed by Donovan's 'Atlantis' chorus) is one of the coolest Futurama montages I can think of.

This episode was overall excellent. All 3 parts were quite hilarious. With that said let me comment on the third act, where atlanta comes into play. I know it has been said before, but the main reason no one liked this portion of the episode was because u didnt understand it.

To truly appreciate this humor, u must be a native atlantian...like myself. The airport jokes...HILARIOUS! thats all we seem to be to other states, a top notch airport! The coca-cola jokes...dead on! and the list of atlanta's outstanding people...(Jeff foxworthy, ted turner, hank aaron, the guy who invented coca-cola, and of course...the magician!) was brilliant simply because it made no sense.

So do not bash this portion of the episode...simply understand that it was directed to a specific group of people...and i can assure u that everyone that lives in atlanta and saw this episode was laughing their srses off.

I loved this episode! These were my fave parts:

-"Harpoon my ass! OW!!"

-Zoidberg as bait critic

-When Zoidberg mimics the three stooges (Woo,woo, woo, woo, woo!)when he runs away from Hermes and the anglerfish (This cracks me up alot!)

-Bender's Sunscreen Message on Amy's Back

-Leela's Harpoon (It only catches boots!)

-How Farnsworth loves suppositories

-Bender turning up his snoring volume

-Zoidberg's new home

-Zoidberg thinking the pirate flag is poisonous

-Farnsworth's fish aphrodisiac (which Zoidberg loves)

-Bender loves that electric eel!

-Fry saving everyone by using the toilet (normally!)

-Zoidberg's Shell burnt down (By a lit cigar underwater??!)

-Fry and Umbriel at the wrestling match

-"Yes, we all miss our loved ones and gases!"

-Fry and Umbriel in bed

-How Umbriel has children

-"Why couldn't she be by the type of mermaid with the fish head on top and the lady part on the bottom?!" (That'd just look ugly!)

-Zoidberg's new house in the fish Bender caught

LONG LIVE FUTURAMA!! (Especially Zoidberg!)

Amy's remarks to Leela about the boots made me laugh harder than ever, I had almost fell off my chair. But it is a suprising effect to see that wearing a jacket and sweatpants can actually keep her warm underwater, and not just that, Bender does not rust. Well they say that "Cartoons don't have to make sense". I agree with that quote.
Too much jokes! I'd give it a 5!

Typically not my favorite episode. I like Bender catching that big mouth bass! Amy in bikini by the way, sexy. Anyhow some of you refer Umbirel to be the sexiest female mermaid, don't make me laugh! everyone knows that Amy is the top priority of the word, sexy. Hermes losing his manwhich was the funniest thing I have ever laughged about. Bender burning Zoidberg's house is funny too. Amy getting mad because Bender used her parasol as a hook [even though her skin was badly burned] was not funny. Just to say Umbirel is not what you call a "Sexy" character.

DX, you're putting a 1 just because of the mermaid...lol....you are a joke to life itself. id agree, the fishing was pretty good, so was zoidberg and his home (and the usual comedian, bender), but i liked this episode. Didnt like the bits when fry and the mermaid was alone together, but bits with the crew members were hilarious. Overall quite a good episode, but not great (mainly the romancing bit between mermaid and fry)

Wow! This was great! The story was emotional, yet funny and gee that animation was awesome! The first act when they're fishing--the water looks real! Watching it on my Futurama S2 DVD...I was a little disturbed...because the episode on the disc before this was "How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back"...so it had Fry having/almost having sex two eps in a row.

Everything about this episode was awsome, especially the bit when Dr. Zoidberg is out doing his garden. The fact that his house burns down (this just raises further questions!-Hermes), is just great.

Although the part when they are at the underwater city wasn't the best bit at all. It could have been a little better, but it still had its moments.

Overall this was a great episode. Of course I am going to give it a 5!

There's nothing too terrible about this episode, and I like seeing the entire Planet Express crew bouncing off one another, but it's not particularly special or memorable. The Fry-dates-someone-new stories have never been all that interesting to me (with maybe one exception), if only because they tend to turn Fry into a bit of a jerk. They also tend to be sitcom-y, and not in a good way. That's certainly what happens here, I think.
