Pretty good episode with some great Zapp/Kif interplay. I love those green seeds that when watered turn into tents. The main focus was on Fry but Bender was also in it alot & most of the episode is located away from Earth which was nice.

One of my favourites, Fry/Leela stuff, Zapp and Kif again, what more could you wish for?

Well I think it's not so hard to make a good episode with lots of gags when you use the story of Starship Troopers, and can concenrate on the twisting of scenes. Hey, it's really one of the best, and that though it's in the third season, I think Zapp made his way to the top again...

Zapp and kif were great in this episode and Zoidberg chpped in even though he didn�t have too. Main focus was on Fry and Bender got a little left out, but his top ten was great!

I really like some spots in this episode, but overall the crew simply didn't get enough out of the plot. They could have pulled some extremely hilarious AND intelligent points out of the war-plot, why didn't they are they scared of hurting Bush's feelings???
I like a lot when Fry finds out that earth (USA) was really the imperialistic, conquering part.

The BEST! This ep is oozing with 'Starship Troopers' references which gives it 5 out of 5 for me straight away.
And anyway, how can you go wrong with Zapp Brannigan leading the charge?

Good things: Zapp and Kif, Fry, Bender, Bender's top 10 list, the ball jokes. It was nice to have an episode that wasn't set in a really science fictiony place. This episode was good but not great. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.

Honestly, I don't think I went 30 seconds without laughing. There are so many great lines in this episode, and all of the characters have terrific parts. I love the Brain Balls: "We demand bouncing, followed by rolling, followed by tumbling, followed by more bouncing!" This would have to be the best Futurama episode I've ever seen. EVER!

Possibly one of the weaker seasons, but this is exceptional. Zapp and Leela are superb and Bender is beyond hilarious. There is virtually nothing wrong with this episode.

Nixon is grotesquely evil again (see "A Head in the Polls"), as Groening's bitter satire rears its ugly head.

A little too heavy on the political commentary and anti-war message, and too light on plot. The enemy is bouncing balls? Lame. The Bender Bomb finale wasn't even that funny.

The same premise could/should have been a lot funnier.

The Leela/Zap Branigan bit was the only element that was executed well.

Well...I just don't know. It�s kind of strange and irregular episode. Leela disguising as a man to join the army is not what I would call an original idea, but Bender's Top Ten is kind of funny.

A pretty good episode.

pros:
The tent in Fry's mouth.
Zapp: "Uh huh, Uh huh, that's whatever you were talking about for you."
Zapp: "The key to victory is the element of surprise... Surprise!"
Bender's top ten.
Fry's parachuting -- you could see it coming, but it was still damn funny.
The end: hilarious.

Cons:
The almost non-existence of many of the supporting characters (the professor, Hermes, Amy)
The story was gimmickey (if that's a word) which they all are, obviously, but this one was just really thin -- you could tell they sat around in the writer's room saying "how can we get them in this situation" and they spent about 12 minutes thinking it up. good stories, even if they're way out there, grow out of the characters and this one didn't really.
Kif's berating Fry: it wasn't funny and seems out of character.
Quite a few overused jokes: Bender telling "Lee Lemon" why he's great, obvious ball jokes (especially the newspaper), the Alan Alda doctor switching from irreverant to maudlin, Zapp attracted to Lee Lemon -- all were funny the first time, and the laughter ended there.

Still, a pretty good episode.

One of the best episodes ever shown in my opinion. Zap was so hilarious, he had many clever jokes, and his emotinal feeling for men was a bit akward hehe. Fry and bender were certainly funny ass well, just think of fry shooting a hole in the ground, the coward! And I haven't even mentioned zoidberg yet. A very good episode, go see it now!

Richard M. Nixon died in November 1994.
I liked this one, it was pretty plot driven and I'm not a fan of how they ended up in the army but good nonetheless; "In war, the greatest advantage is surprise . . . SURPRISE!". Also loved the musical guns!

2 very brilliant lines from a fantastic episode, id also like to point out this episode is not season 3, its season 2. i have the DVD box sets for 1 and 2 and ive borrowed seasons 3 and 4 and the episode/season list on here seems to be wrong, i hate to point out mistakes and its understandable as that was probably the order they were shown on TV but there is no season 5. unfortunatly. this episode is defiantly one of my favourites. to round it off id just like to say:

this is the greatest episode ever!
The episode has a great begining when bender and fry join the army, (War were to happen) I love how zaff falls in love with leela even though he thinks that she is a man. I love that the guns twirl and play pop goes the weasel. I love benders top ten list. And when leela says dont you recognize me. "Hermes" .
I enjoyed the hole episod and well maybee its not the best ever but it is in the top ten, or maybe the top 5. If anyone dosent own it they despretly need to buy the futerama dvds each one is worth the 40$ But season two is probably the best.

Who knew how prophetic this episode would be 3 years from airing? Zap's pep-talk/briefing of the troops sounds so much like Bush rhetoric it's uncanny.

Great Lines:

Pretty Good I liked all the bringing up od the ham gum. how leela took som command and badly disguised herself as a man, But Zap was disgusting. way too gay for my taste. I real liked the M*A*S*H take off and Dr zoidberg was funny. Also the enemy was really funny and their leaders (the brainballs were funnier.

My favourite episode. Everything about it, from Zoidberg and the M.A.S.H send up to the balls: "we do not condone bouncing of the seventh variety". Kiff and Zap are also brilliant, esp. Zap's confusion at his feelings towards Lee Lemon. The best bit, however, is the anecodote by the balls. "The elders tell of a young ball much like you. He bounced three meters in the air, then he bounced 1.8 meters in the air, then, he bounced 4 meters in the air. Do I make myself clear?" Has me in stitches every time

Zapp Brannigan is Futurama's funniest character, probably helped by the fact he was used quite sparingly. This is his best appearance, I think, not least for naming his male horse Felicity. Kif's sudden change in personality when given even a meagre level of authority was a great moment too.

This is my second favourite episode (only just behind Roswell That Ends Well), I personally think this is the most 'laugh-out-loud' funny episode of Futurama.

- Kif bossing Fry around.
- Fry and Bender thinking that they were entitled to military discount when they weren't even in the military.
- ...so is Zapp bi now?
- For aforementioned point, Zapp trying to cover up his bisexuality by saying he suspected it was Leela the whole time.
- The way the weapons are like children's toys.

It also has my second favourite line in Futurama history (once again, behind Roswell That Ends Well with Fry's "hey, what smells like blue?"), being "careful, you spooked Felicity! There, there boy!"

A pretty perfect episode. Zapp is so well-utilized here, and Leela's masquerading as Lee Lemon is both sweet (since her friends tend to die when she's not there to protect them) and a hilarious play on an old cartoon/sitcom trope. It also helps that this one is full of great gags and homages to war movies and the like. One of the best episodes of the series, absolutely.
