Starts out just fine, but it loses something in the end. I'd say 3.5 really, but I'm so nice so I rounded it up.

Sorry guys but I had to give it a 2 because this episode really is below averidge. Sure it has it's good bits like when Bender takes his head off while begging and seeing how Frys girlfriend reacted to being in the 30th century, but compared to other episodes it doesn't quite have that special something. Probably my least favourate Futurama episode just below Mars University.

This was great. The bit with Bender and Fry scaring the people they defrosted was brilliant. I do hate Pauly Shore, though, and regret that they gave him any recognition by including him. I would have rated this episode a 4, but too many people under-rated it.

Not the best Futurama episode. But I think the creativity, special effects, and fast pace made it a highly entertaining ride. The episode wasn't heavy on the jokes but it was heavy on the story and excitment on the adventure. A very well crafted episode. But I'm glad not all Futurama episodes are like CW. It was a nice side trip though.

This episode starts out really funny. The joke with the Chinese Wall was really good and also when Fry has to do Leelas old job. But in the end it is a little boring with this youth gang (thats LA...)

I'd give this episode a 5 if the whole thing were as good as the opening sequence (which I would LOVE to see done live action, it's just directed beautifully, comic timing almost on a par with the master Chuck Jones, rest his soul). The rest drags a bit, but I think it's due to the Pauly Shore recurring gag rather than Fry's ex. Some of the best moments are actually Fry and of course, Bender, at their new jobs as cryonics counselors: "And if you won't listen to us, maybe you'll listen to...OGG, GORILLA EMPEROR OF EARTH!" And what a fun touch at the end, with the gun-toting kids turning out to be Jewish -- a comment on Isreali politics, perhaps?

below average. liked it until fry's girlfriend is introduced. her voice is so annoying, and she can't stop whinging, which is meant to be funny, but it just isn't. episode suffers because it focuses oon fry and completely ignores the rest of the cast. the most disappointing episode i have seen.

Although Fry's girlfriend came dangerously close to ruining this episode, I agree with David's review (#18). In fact, he mentions the reason I had to review this episode - my single favorite futurama moment:

Bender:"Hey, Fry. I'm steering with my ASS!"
Fry:"That's the best thing I ever saw!"

One of my all time fav episodes. I'd list all the best parts but that would require me to type out the whole episode. Fry and Bender working at the Cryogenics center is histerical, the fact that once the gang was gone the Professor send his "new" crew to slightly nicer worlds (The Fantasy Planet...where all your fantasies come true). Sure beats Ebola 9 the virus planet. : )

And being from L.A. I love the "social commentary" at the end.

But there's a bunch of ten year olds with guns!

Best quote ever comes from this episode:

Fry: "I miss the year 3000, when everybody ate lasers, and brains flew through space."

I couldn't stop laughing after that line. Even though a lot of the episode annoyed me, there are a lot of good Fryisms in there.

Stop analyzing everything with your RELENTLESS LOGIC! Oh yeah, that's Fry all right!

Not the best of eps, scratch that, one of the worst. It is just too slow in the whole 'year 4000' sketch.

Loved Fry and Bender in the Cryogenics job.

Bender:'Stay beautiful doll-face! That probulator sure knows how to please a man!' (LOL!!!!)

Pizza box:'You don' like it? we can 'a' take it ou' side!'
Fry:'OK, i'll fight the box.'

This is where season 2 ended in the UK, so here is whare i shall review that season.

Probably the best i have seen to date, having already got into the swing of things. none of the slow start that season 1 had.

I totally agree with David and Facehairteeth's reviews (#18&#20)The scaring of the defrostees by Fry & Bender is classic Groening humor.I also think the quote "Hey Fry, I'm steering with my ass" "Thats the best thing I ever saw"is one of the best to come out of the show yet.One of my favorite episodes even though the talentless hack Pauly Shore was involved.

Good episode. Fry was funny. Having Michelle back was nice. Year 3000 Los Angeles was funny, but I don't think anybody would still be using regular cars in the future. My favorite part: when they made fun of LA. My least favorite part: when Fry didn't get his job back at the end of the episode. He'll have it back in the next ep. Seems a little too convenient. This was a good (production) season finale.

This episode was a bit of a flop. It started our good when Fry and Bender were working at the freezing place but as soon as Fry's old girlfriend furned up things got boring fast. It was clever the way they were in the "year 4000" but it turned out to be LA. That was a twist I did not see coming, I thought that the lazy writers would make some crazy time travel thing...overall it's not one of the better episodes.

Swing and a miss. despite a couple of kind of funny moments, this episode just didn't live up. Although the premise of Futurama allows for outrageous plotlines (which i often enjoy) this one seemed desperate. Pauly Shore is not funny, and jokes about Pauly Shore, even if they're jokes about why he's not funny, aren't funny. Bringing a character Fry knew from the 20th century so she can react to the future just doesn't work. One of the few truly disappointing episodes of Futurama.

I concur Phoenix. Michelle ruined the whole episode just like my sister Meg who is the lead weight on my family's show, Family Guy. They both whine and whinge that it isn't even funny. The first ten minutes had me breaking up with laughter every fifteen seconds or so. I like the slapstick and there was no shortage of it with the Planet Express's tether ride. I had a lot of trouble buying the plot of this episode, mainly due to Michelle also being cryogenically frozen AND her and Frys decision to freeze themselves for another 1000 years only to wake at a barren wasteland inhabited by kids. Why? Because generally Futurama sticks to the sitcom rule of having everything go back to normal by the end and, surprise surprise, they didnt go forward to the year 4000 at all. So plot-wise this episode sucked in the second half.

On the plus side though, Fry and Benders reckless cruise around the Earth with the Planet Express building in tow was hilarious and the ass-steering and posing as the Prime Minister Of Norway were both classic Bender, very believable on his part.

This episode wasnt totally useless, but digging up old ghosts from the past wasnt one of their better ideas.

It started great, I liked how they got fired, Fry and Bender went to work at the Cyogenics lab, and they treat all the people who are waking up.

The first half of the episode had me laughing alot, then Fry's girlfriend came. 2 things happened that was bad, first his gf was too annoying, 2nd, the Future is suddenly scary, like that Cochroach, do we ever see that again? No, it only came into the episode to scare her, which sucks because i would have liked her to like the Future. I also wonder why Fry doesn't introduce the Professor as his relative.

Anyway, the episode went down hill with those annoying kids, and anyone notice the car near the end had wheels? Yet noone knows what Wheels are, mess up!

Oh well, 3 out of 5 for this. Next to the one where Qbert takes over Planet Express, this would be my least favorite.

Then one of the unfunniest half-episodes. FUTURAMA rarely works with extended action sequence and his fightwith the savages' leaderis isn't exciting (Raging Bender and Birdbot if Ice-Catraz being exceptions) and all the potential of Fry dealing with his ex is thrown away in the year 4000.
Worst of all, the potential for Leela and Fry's relationship to be affected (think A Fligh to Remember) is wasted.
But the first half is the way I like my Futurama, so I'll round up the 2.5/5 to a 3/5.

its a great episode. The fact that they get fired, all get new jobs, and fry's old girfriend comes to the future are the things that make this epidode standout from most other epidodes. I'm not saying that things that happen in other episodes are plain and boring, cause their not. I'm just saying that I thought it was a cool idea for an episode to bring bad Fry's old girlfriend Michelle.

As it's been said on numerous reviews already, the first act of this episode is definitely great. The part where Fry and Bender go take a ride in the spaceship whilst dragging the entire Planet Express offices with them definitely was hilarious and them scaring off people being unfrozen was funny as well. It went off a promising start.

However, it all went downhill when they've introduced Fry's ex-girlfriend. She is annoying and she doesn't add much to the episode. The entire Los Angeles plot with the kids' society wasn't interesting either and it seemed to go nowhere. Add to this a completely confused, unfunny and nonsensical ending as well than Pauly Shore's presence and this episode gets itself a 2/5 grade.

Not very good.

I just got the dvd's to season 2, and I have to say this episode is probably the best from volume 2. True, the last third of the episode is sorta weak, but the inventive story line of the episode makes up for it. How you people can rate this episode worse than any of the 'mom' ones is beyond me.

I thought this epidoe was really good. It was hysterical how Fry and Bender switched jobs with Leela. My favorite part was when Fry showed Leela the picture of him and Michelle. Best lines:

Michelle: I didn't know what did happen to you. No one did. The police were going to conduct a search but your parents felt it was a waste of tax payer money.

Fry: That's the same reason they kept me out of school.

"So it's a little safer than skateboarding"

And the professor talking to the gorilla mask Og or whatever bender called it, that scene was great!

The plot actually had potential to be extremely entertaining; unfortunately it ended up being wasted thanks to the rather uninteresting Michelle and [the episode's] closing act, which doesn't live up to the quality of humor that the series can muster with its other episodes. Michelle [and by extent Paulie Shore at the end], despite being one of the characters the episode is centered on (second of course, only to Fry), she becomes the biggest detractor to my viewing with her caricature representation which is taken TOO EXTREMELY. Poor Fry.

I actually thought about giving this a one, but the excellent opening (BAM! "...and that's how we learnt our lesson."), Act One, Bender scaring the defrostees, and ALL of Zoidberg's appearances (the saving grace of Act Two) in this episode pull it up enough for it be a 4 in my eyes...well, as long as I don't watch til the end.

They should have just focused on Fry, Leela and Bender's "jobs" -- that would have probably made a better episode than Michelle's return. In fact, they probably should have saved it for when Fry and Leela fall for each other, so that there would have been a better and much more interesting dynamic "triangle" to the story.

I think this is one of the best episodes of Futurama. Fry's girlfriend was supposed to be unlikeable and that part was played so well. The dialogue between Fry and Michelle was classic.

Michelle: Stop standing up for yourself. When we get back to the hole, we are going to have a long and boring talk about our relationship.

Fry: (Whispering) I'm Leaving you.

This is classic, as she was the girlfriend from hell that every man will deal with at some point. This episode was very well written and should be given a second look.

Well I think it's better than what the average rating shows, but it's not great. Some of the jokes are very funny, but Sarah Siverman's character is very annoying (obviously). And the way she shutters when the cup pieces come back together is just weird. Who wouldn't think that's really cool and useful? Being terrified of a giant lobster-man is one thing, but being frightened of a cup that reassembles after breaking? Weird.
The other joke I really don't like is the one where Fry is asked about how he feels about it not being nec. to be crazy to work here..." bit. Just a clumsy joke imo. Plus I've never seen that sort of poster so it hardly even made sense to me the first time I heard it. Especially unfunny since it follows a solid Lela joke of "Monday monkey lives for the weekend sir."

Average episode!

I thought this was a good episode until the whole 4000 part and then it started to decline, but it was pretty predictable that it wouldn't be the year 4000.

Not a good episode. Has potential to be more, just a shame it ends with such a loose explanation 'he just won't stop with the social commentary'

Michelle is one of the worst characters on the show.

While it's not the best, I really loved the creativity of it. It's really a 4, but I think the average should be higher.

It was o.k at the start, but who's idea wad "death rolling"?
This IS the least imaginative episode, and it's even worse as it is the 2nd season's final episode! Waste of time!

Michelle had potential as a character, but with the really bland way they dealt with her she should have stayed a one-shot joke from the pilot.

One of my favorites. I find it odd that the average is so low amongst fans. The character of Fry's girlfriend is so well portrayed. Very believable. Great action sequence at the end.

An over-looked gem, this episode has some of the best moments in the series when Bender and Fry become cryogenic councilors.

This was good but some parts...eh. 50-50. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions but I think this episode was better than people rated it. This episode deserves a 5 in my personal view.

I actually find the first part funny (when they were toying with the ship and it hit some famous landmarks). It only went downhill when Fry's ex-GF showed up.

This episode is good in the sense that; the story is decent, the society of children is funny and the twist at the end is a surprising and funny social commentary. The Michelle character is not appealing, though. And the flying scenes at the start were good and funny.

I strongly disagree with all the negative comments on this page. It's not the greatest episode but it serves up good jokes for the majority. The probulator scenes are the standout for me. It loses its greatness after Fry and Michelle think they travel to the year 4000 and Michelle as a character isn't well-developed but still it's worth a four point rating.

It is really pathetic to read some of these reviews. I've never seen an episode I didn't love. I guess this makes me a poor judge, but I felt I had too after reading the review that stated it was below "Averidge" his spelling not mine. Futurama is for smart people. "Averidge Joe's", need to pay attention and learn something, not riddicule what you can't understand.

I'm a big fan of the show. If posiable i'd give every episode a 10. Only thing is i havn't seen this one cause i work late hours i miss all new episods :(. All in all every episode/movie are my favorites re-runs or not. To those who complain about everything and have nothing but better to do but complain I have but a few of bender's favorite words: Bite My Shiny Metal #*$!

The worst episode.
Pauly Shore's appearance is terrible. Not only can the man barely act, but nothing he says is funny and it's all self-gratifying.
The plot also leaves a lot to be desired and it's a shame because I think the idea of Fry's ex-girlfriend being unfrozen had a lot of potential.
The final scene in the episode also does more than enough to annoy me.

Good television but awful Futurama.

I feel this episode is way underrated on here. The only slightly weak part of the episode is the final act. Even then it still makes up for it with a cool action sequence. The jokes in the first two acts are very good, and I didn't mind Michelle too much in it, as many people hated her but she's supposed to be unlikable, as she's the main antagonist of the episode. I personally thought the plot and the characters were good in it, so I don't even think it's close to being the worst episode ever.

This episode is kind of an exercise in wasted potential. The first act is brilliant, the second act falters a bit but is still perfectly fine...and then the third act comes along and ruins everything. Such a ridiculous twist that has nothing to do with what has preceded it. And Michelle is so flippin' annoying. One of the worst episodes of the series, but it's saved from total suckitude by, at the very least, act one.

I read 100 reviews and am disappointed people didn't catch on to the relationship between Fry and her ex.

Btw it was a decent episode, but what was great was they represented Fry's ex gf to be LITERAL version of the standard *bitchy ex girlfriends* and highlighted the problems so many males face with their gf, where she always end up being their ex gf when they behave like she did in the episode. That's what great, I think a lot of kids can't relate to Fry and his relationship because they never experienced it. Classic..

"FRY WHY MUST YOU ANALYSE EVERYTHING WITH YOUR RELENTLESS LOGIC?"

"Stop standing up for yourself Fry!"

"Whine some more Fry, I really find that attractive in a man. Now build us a shelter!"

"I want power! I'm jealous of the Chief's gf lording it over with her fancy coyote hide" (disgusting)

"I love you, don't you love me?"

Ex gf quotes you can expect irl.

Fry's old girlfriend from the past, the creators could've gone to hell and back with writing this episode but they came out with this mess a craphole. I love futurama, but this one might need some work.
