This has to be the best Futurama episode ever. OK, it wasn't as funny as some of the others, but the story was a masterpiece and when Fry found out about Philip J Fry jr it bought tears to my eyes. The flashbacks were good, showing us what the Fry family were like and defining who Philip is. I recommened everyone sees this episode, you'll love it.

Superb episode, as Marty said perhaps not as funny as most eps, but with this much depth to the storyline who needs it. Excelent choice of music too. It's funny how the overall quality of the third season seemed to be the worst yet (not meaning bad, but just not as good) but still it included episodes like this!

Yes, a brilliant story, and the best Futurama episode ever. There were still some good laughs, but it was the story that was the stand out factor. One of the best written pieces of television I've ever seen, and far better than anything that The Simpsons has done in the past 6 or so years. I can't praise this episode enough, A+

This is a truely amazing episode. One of the best episodes of television from any show last year. I was surprised at how moving and touching it was, especially for an animated series. And great use of the familiar Breakfast Club song "Don't forget about me". Congrats!

The ending almost brought a tear to my eyes, which is rare these days in a 30-minute TV show. That alone makes it above average, in my opinion.

One thing I couldn't understand was how Fry's stuff was still there in his parents' basement. Seems like sometime during the thousand years, someone else would have occupied the house, or it would have been demolished. The only theory I have is that NEW New York was built over the old cities' ruins not long after Fry got frozen.

This has to be my favorite Futurama episode ever. It kept suprising me throughout the show and I did not see the ending coming. I have to admit I got a little bit choked up at the end which is very rare for me. Plus, the 80s flashbacks were hilarious. I think that every Futurama fan MUST see this episode. I give it the highest reccomendation one can give.

Wonderful episode, definitely up among the top 5 season 3 episodes.
The plot worked, it was touching yet not too cheesy, the end was sweet and you just gotta love Noticably-F.A.T. Nice to see some of Fry's family background.

This wasn't just great animation, it was great entertainment. Instead of the ending the writers had alluded through the flashbacks, we were given something much much better. It hints that within the collective Fry genes there is some honour and gallantry and hope for own Fry. Top marks all!!!!

A very deep and thoughtful episode which is suberbly written and powerful. It uses symbolism to good effect for example the seven leaf clover and it shows Fry during his days in the 20th century. The continious flashbacks add depth and emotion to the plot and provide a sense of understanding. The ending brought a tear to my eye which is incredible considering this is a 22 minute cartoon. It's not my favourite episode because it lacks the humour and extensive cast of other episodes but it's certainly a jewel of an episode and is very unique.

I didn't think much of this episode. The strength of the series lies in the whole ensemble of the characters in the future, not the development of a broadly sentimental story set in the present.

When you look back at the best episodes of the Simpsons (sorry to compare the two here, but get over it), it seems the sentimental episodes they did were really some of the best (like when Homer surrounds his office with pictures of Maggie; "Do it for her"). This being the first of hopefully many sentimental episodes for Futurama, I have to say that it's one of the best episodes -- if not THE best. These are the kinds of episodes Fox will look at when they consider whether or not to renew the series for another season. And there's nothing wrong with that. The writing Emmy this episode won was well-deserved.

Unbelievable episode, especially if you lived through the mid-eighties. The music and fashion references were wonderfully sentimental and set you up perfectly for the ending.

How the hell Fox will cancel this show before the rapidly souring Simpsons is beyond me.

I have to say that I'm surprised to read the comments of you guys. Nearly everyone is feeling the same way about this episode. Outstanding, unique and definetely the best futurama episode ever. Whoever is a fan of this show, and I mean a true fan who can identify himself with one of the characters or sometimes secretly wishes to live in NNY, should have seen this episode. And it's for sure: This man will cry by the end of the episode just as I did...

And there are also great funny parts in this episode. Just as one guy said: You gotta love Noticably F.A.T. or Fry getting angry about the insription on the tomb: "Aw, it's all lies, every word of it: He wasn't original, he wasn't a martian, he wasn't Philip Fry... And since when is he a 'the'?"

Futurama Fans: I think we all agree when we say: The top two episodes are 'The luck of the Fryish' and 'Space Pilot 3000'.

I watched this episode before I read the reviews here. The Ending was simply BEAUTIFUL and touching! I got all choked up and teary-eyed...I cried, it touched my heart. It reminded me of fights I had with my brother long ago and the regrets over the stupid things... Bah! Can it be that I'm getting overly sentimental as I get older? :P Simply Awesome and Incredible story-writing at it's best for a 22 minute cartoon episode. Honestly, if you didn't feel a lil choked up at the end, you're probably a sociopath. It saddens me to think that a show with this quality level of writing is struck down and cancelled in it's prime. :(

This is what Futurama should be like if they want to stick sentimentality in it.

Best line:

Bender:'This is the local B-train makin' frequent stops at wherever the hell i feel like it.'

Excellent ending. Genuinely moving but not too liquid thanks to Bender's 'shall i hack up the corpse' line.

Seen this episode three times on Sky now, and still think it's easily one of the best. It's not utterly hillarious (though by no means dull) but it goes a long way in what proving what Futurama excels over the Simpsons at: genuine 'character' within it's characters. As the Simpsons is nowadays degenerating into a show that aims only for laughs (any reality element is now gone :p), Groening proves that he does have what it takes to affect an audience in other ways. The ending to this episode will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside, something that doesn't usually happen to an all too often undersensitive person like myself.

And of course, there's always the usual quota of laugh out loud gags, especially the breakdancing bit :p . This is why Futurama is better than 90% of TV crap.

What a warm and absolutely touching episode, especially paired with Jurassic Bark. This episode is absolutely a classic and I consider it one of the best cartoon episodes. I couldn't help but cry at the end a little even though I knew what was coming.

Humor was good, especially at the end (for some odd reason I laugh when Bender salutes by whacking the shovel in his head).

The greatest and saddest part was when Yancy pulled the clover out and looked at the picture of what Fry drew. I loved it when Yancy said I love you Philip because it worked on two levels so very well.

What an absolutely touching episode.

Unlike my puny friend Daniel, I am also too tough to be moved by this t.v. Wait! scratch the last one that doesn't make me cry either. Despite not having a heart, I have to rank this episode among the best three on my list; which are "Godfellas", "Jurassic Bark", and "the luck of the Fryish".

I think that the closing scene was the best ever in a cartoon. The music from 'The Breakfast Club' just summed up the whole episode and the slow pan-out from the orbitting cemetary was ingenius.

This is probably the best episode of Futurama, at least tied with "The Problem With Poppplers", and definitely the best serious episode.

The episode was funny (Noticeably B.I.G. and the break dance off) and touching (the end) all at the same time. Great writing and a must see episode, highly recommended to anybody, new viewers should watch "Space Pilot 3000" first though.

I have never seen anything more beautiful or touching in my entire life. I was staying up late, as usual. I was watching some of my favorite shows on Cartoon Network. Futurama, Family Guy, so on. I watched the episode as I usually do. Waiting for great entertainment and funny jokes. I followed the episode. It made perfect sense all the way through. I didn't know what to expect, nor did I try to predict. But when I saw the ending, it brought a tear to my eye I have never had before. Rarely in this world does anything touch me deeply. Rarely on TV or even in life... But as I watched that episode, I knew I saw the most beautiful and well put together thing I have ever seen in my entire existence. It was the most well put together piece of art you could ever find in this world. I truly can't even totally pinpoint why it touched me so incredibly much. The best way I can describe it is that it was just peer, beautiful, love. Something, I guess, till now I have never seen. I laid there in bed that night, yesterday, crying. Crying for how beautiful it was, and how deeply it touched ad moves me. I can never rate this episode. For it surpasses numbers. As such, I could never thank the creatures of this episode enough. Not only has it touched, moved, showed true peer love to me, and inspired me. It has become my favorite episode on my new favorite show. It has given me a new reason to live. And for that, I would like to eternal thank the people who made that episode. God bless you all.

This episode is probably one of the best episodes of any TV show ever.
The story reminds me of the whole "Wonder Years" show, because it' so moving, touching and the use of the song at the end is just lovely.
I couldn't keep my tears from falling down when the music starts. It gives the episode the greatest ending I've ever seen in any cartoon/sitcom. Shame on everyone, who rates "Luck of the Fryish" less than 5 and more shame on FOX for cancelling the show.
I think & hope I will never forget that episode, because it's a masterpiece, just beautiful!
I'd like to thank the writer of the episode for bringing the most heart-touching moment in 30 minutes to us than any other show or movie has ever done.

So R.I.P. Futurama.

This show is GREAT. I love this show. It is my favorite. I can remeber the first time I saw the first episode. It was so fun. My whole family loves The Simpsons. I did too. So when there was a new TV Show series comming out by the same creator, I knew the show would be great. I am still kinda young and I stay up every night just to watch Futurama on Adult Swim. I wish they showed it more. If anyone from the network that shows Futurama reads this, PLEASE DO A FUTURAMA MARATHON!!! Anyone who likes the show would love that. I really would like to see the last eposide. But I saw on a website that there were some eposoides that where never aired. Please show them. And show ones with Leela and her parents. I have to say that to date, this is my favourite Futurama episode. I'm not always an easily moved person, but watching Luck Of The Fryrish rever fails to bring a tear to my eye.

This episode definetly stands out, with the subtlety of the flashbacks handing us all of the important information while we continue to watch Fry's foolish quest to be rich, first man on mars, dead and buried, etc., and leaving us totally undefended against the emotional ending (in many ways, I find it similar to Parasites Lost).

It's good to see that an episode can rely on more than just a string of jokes, and I admire a writer willing to go out on a limb in such a series like this.

My only disapointment is that the Breakfast Club song doesn't last for the entire end credits.

I'd happily give this 6 out of 5, but the page script doesn't allow for that.

This is my 3rd favorite episode ever. My 1st favorite is The Why of Fry. My 2nd favorite is The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings. But this is a true masterpiece. It has a sad ending, but it's not as tearjerking as Jurassic Bark. After seeing that episode, I'm still crying.

As it's said in nearly every of the 227 reviews preceding mine, this is one of the, if not the best Futurama episode yet. It's not up to par with others on humor but the story is great and compares to the likes of the Simpson's episode with Mother Simpson. I love how the show developes greatly on who Fry was, how lonely he's become now and how much he resented his brother. I wasn't expecting anything sentimental from Futurama, but this rare occourance shows that they can definately live up and pass the expectations. And definate props to the Breakfeast Club song.

Sorry people, looks like i'm with the minority group on this one.

I did think the end was touching (certainly not enough to bring me to tears) but the episode didn't captivate my interest for long.

I guess they were going for the more sentimental side, but the whole point of futurama for me is the comedy, so yeah it was an ok episode, but i can think of about 40 others I prefer!

You know you're being set up for a touching ending, but it's so well written, staged, and acted that it still gets you. Funny along the way, irreverent in the Futurama tradition, emotionally complex at the end...those who were offended should stick to watching Saturday morning cartoons in their Ninja-Turtle pajamas with the feet sewn in. One nice thing about the DVD is being able to hear the dialogue in other languages. Check out Yancy naming his son in the French version...the actor's reading is very emotional...

Okay, you've probably been to that Jump The Shark website before. And there's some out there that think episodes like this sent the show hurdling over it.

They're half-right. This episode made the series jump, alright. Made it jump onto the plane of greatest sitcoms ever. Futurama is at once funny and deep, and LOTF is exhibit A. The turn at the end is downright tender, an adjective not much associated with Matt Groening creations, but spot-on here.

Ah, if only this were a show about a woman working at a fashion magazine. Then it would have gotten a far better shake.

Id have to agree with all the reviews, this is perhaps one of the best futurama episodes yet. and im willing to say that even though i dont like ranking them because they are all brilliant in their own way. The story was brilliantly clever and touching, as many before me i did almost cry when it was revealed yancy's son was named Philip Fry after his uncle. But i disagree with anyone who says it wasnt as funny, did they hear Billy Wests' classic rock band voice 'Phil came in right, strummed out this tune yea, and i said, thats a number one record'. Also John DiMaggios' beat-boxing as noticably F.A.T. Pure brilliance. this is undoubtedly one of my favourite episodes of all.

It's about time I reviewed this episode....

After all these years, it's still my favorite. It's not necessarily the *best* of all the Futurama episodes ever created (-points to Roswell that Ends Well-), but it was the first truly emotional episode of the series, and so it holds a special place in my heart. I didn't cry at the end, but it left me in a pretty emotional state by the time the credits rolled. It still shakes me up whenever I see it. Tom Kenny did wonders with his character here.

I don't know what's possessing people to give this episode scores of 1. I know it's not exactly a barrel of laughs, but Futurama was never about appealing to the lowest common denominator. It's episodes like this that separate this show from every other half-witted sitcom. Ron Weiner made the show proud with this script. This episode deserves all the praise it can muster.

This episode was abso-tively awesome because it sort of helped raised Futurama above the normal just-a-comedy. I think I cried at the end and I almost never cry at movies, etc. Definitely never half-hour animated comedies. This episode was great because it was something more than just jokes (although there *were* some good ones, maybe not the funniest Futurama but nowhere near boring)

Such a good episode! Definately a top 5 futurama episodes. Sure, not as many jokes, but they also had some underlying wit (for instance: "I should be in that grave!) It's very touching, plus you learn more about Fry's past. Great twist as well

This was the best epsisode of Futurama I have ever seen. The plot is so good that they should make it into a movie of something like that. I can never get sick of this episode. I never knew that Fry was so good at breakdancing and basketball.

I think it was the best touching show of Futurama. I cried every time i saw the last part when Fry learned that the other Phillip wasn't his brother that Fry thought he had changed his own name, but that he named his own son Phillip in memory of his brother. That's so touching!!!

With "Jurassic Bark", that's the most touching and probably my most favourite episode of all seasons. I cry everytime I watch the end of the episode. It's so touching.. the thought that Yancy really loved his little brother and never forgot about him.

I read a few reviews over these 34 pages, and I really can't understand why people consider it a bad episode, just because it lacked humour and jokes. That would've been out of place anyway, since this episode obviously focuses on the storytelling, character's development and Fry's past/ relationship with his brother.

It's a good thing that Futurama had serious and in-depth episodes. Although it IS a comedy series, it hasn't neccessarily to be funny and happy-go-lucky *all the time*, I think .. wouldn't that be a bit boring?
Plus this season really needed an episode like this.

Phew, sorry for the mini-rant. xD;;

Simply the best. Its good enough when a Futurama episode had one good story, but when it has two, its just phenomenal. Great jokes all around (the horse concession stand, Noticeably F.A.T., etc.) and the hair robot is one of the series' most memorable characters.

But where this episode really outshines all other competitors is in the emotion. Unlike "Jurassic Bark" (which I find sadistic in its sad ending), I felt a tear or two streaming down my cheeks. We've never seen how Fry's absence affected his family, but when Yancy honors Fry's memory in one of the final scenes, you get a new outlook on an already great series. 30-minute animated comedies aren't supposed to be this good; thank God this one is.

"The Luck of the Fryrish" is one of my favorite Futurama episodes. I remember that the first time I saw it on Fox it made me cry, which no other comedy has done to me before. This episode is so touching and brillantly written that I am surprised it wasn't nominated for an Emmy but at least it won an Annie Award.

Defaintely one of the best episodes in the entire series. Like many, this brought a tear to my eye, and it's so rare that a cartoon could do that. Just learning the truth of what happened after Fry was frozen was very heart-warming. Though two brothers could feud all their lives, in the end, love is still there.

I've read all the reviews and though I respect all the people who didn't like it, I can't find a reason why.

I find it funny enough (I love the centaur race), the flashbacks are really cool (and somehow sad seeing Old New York), the end is great (and to me, very surprising), and it is definitely the only comedy cartoon in which I've felt so close to the characters that it's made me cry.

Haven't seen any season 4 episodes yet, so I have to say it's the best episode I've seen.

Touching. This is futurama at it's best. The plot line is subtley revealed through a combination of discoveries and flash backs. Slowly the story unfolds and builds to a perfect ending. The humour makes you laugh but doesn't spoil the mood. Best ep ever.

This was probably one of the least funny episodes of futurama (though still funnier than 'A leela of her own') but it still had some funny parts. The reason i gave it five was becasue of the comedy but because it was the best story ive seen in the show so far. It was clever and surprising and i almost cried at the end (not expected from a cartoon). I wouldnt want episode like that very often because i watch it for the comedy but it was a great episode. The only episode that was better was 'Roswell that ends well'. If you havent seen that one, do it now!. I also want to say that anyone who gave 'That's Lobstertainment' a 2 or 1 is an idiot and you're wrong. everyone should go give it a 5 to make up for that.

I just caught this episode today-- it was a choice between watching this or MTV and Futurama just won out.

What followed was one of the very best, most amazing episodes I have ever seen of this programme. I never thought anything would touch me as much as the episode about Seymour the dog, but I was choking back tears at the end of this. And all from an animated series! Futurama sometimes surpasses the Simpsons-- this episode had more depth, more feeling and more about it than any other animation I've seen. Brilliant stuff.

I think one of the more subtle differences between Futurama and the Simpsons is that while the Simpsons is more universal, it makes fun of it; Futurama on the other hand makes fun of the absurd, but when it tackles the more universal issues (such as sibling rivalry and love), it becomes for me at least, a stronger series than the Simpsons ever was. The fact that Futurama can stay grounded in spite of its out-of-this-world premise, gives it an extremely strong emotional impact and, of course, interesting plot twists (like the one in this episode).

This episode made me cry. The only episode from the Simpsons that I thought could compare to this was "Mother Simpson" -- both episodes have a similarly sad, longingly yearning ending, but Futurama pulls it off by bringing a twist that comes out of the left field, something that we never thought of but would make complete sense. That's why I loved this episode so much.

Of course, Fry and Bender have the funniest lines in this episode:

Bender: "And his legend lives on!"

Fry: "He certainly wasn't a The!"

Still, it is the story that shines in this episode. Nuff said.

Wow. I'm a bit behind everyone on this website. Although I was there to see the very first episode of Futurama when it came out, I think I began losing interest in the series after 5 or so episodes. Or maybe college happened to me.
Anyway, I became obsessed with Futurama just RECENTLY after watching The Sting, Farnsworth Parabox, and the Why of Fry (which I recorded on my friend's tivo). The Sting was my favorite episode until a friend of mine made me watch his favorite episode just last thursday--the Luck of the Fryish. After watching the ending, I was like, ok, that was a cool episode, but then I kept thinking about it and thinking about it and I couldn't get that Simple Minds song out of my head. Now this is my favorite episode! It had such a great twist in the end. Well, but you guys all know that already. Yey for Greoning for making an awesome episode.

Favorite quote (just so random and funny for those of you who grew up watching Night Court):

Bender: Now no one can't tell me
I don't have John Laraquette's spine.

*Just a little sidenote about Greoning--his cousin is a doctor in my small hometown of Wenatchee. This doctor's name is Wiggins...Greoning used his cousin's name for Chief Wiggins. Isn't that funny? It's great to know that I have some (though obscure) connection with Greoning!

An absolute masterpiece of an episode. It ties for best emotional episode with Jurrasic Bark.

Excellent choice of finishing music Christopher Tyng.

Fry's family carry this episode by making you want to miss them even more than you would have without their quips.

The introduction of Yansey, whilst unexpected, was a great choice on the directors part.

Noticably F.A.T. goes down as one of the best one timers on the show.

If you dont choke at the end of this one, and at the end of Jurrasic Bark you are a cold hearted monster.

I only saw this episode for the first time a year ago, and I have to say it immediately became my favorite. The mother/daughter relationship portrayed here is one that some current shows (Everybody loves raymond, King of queens) have tried to emulate but haven't done nearly well enough. Bender is incredible and steals my heart as the compulsive, neurotic robot. His performance, particularly at his daughter's deathbed, amazes me. Fry is phenomenal as well as, for once in the movies, a believable child who gets upset with his children but also loves them unconditionally. Jack Nicholson is, as always, nearly flawless. Very few movies have the ability to leave me in tears, but this one does every time I see it. As for TV Guide's top 100, it's obvious that they fell into the common trap of glorifying old shows while ignoring some equally deserving newer ones. Without a doubt, this episode is a masterpiece. Acting, story, photography, everything... wonderful. Just be sure and take a BOX of tissues. It will make you laugh and it will absolutely make you cry. Fry as always is fabulous. Bender is amazing. Zapp, well, you will hate him but I guess that means his acting was terrific too. It was the first episode I ever saw him in and the character has stayed with me since. If I ever see him in ANYTHING, I hate him no matter what!!

There are so many great episodes of Futurama but this for me is one of the cream episodes. Every episode is funny, but this was also very emotional with a great twist at the end. US and UK seasons on dvd differ, but the UK season 3 dvd is cramed full of classics like this one.

Not to downplay the episode, it's still in the top 3, but i feel that it's emotional power would be alot stronger if i hadn't seen Jurrasic Bark, first. I strongly suggest to watch this one first and then Jurrasic Bark, still a great episode, i love the part where they salute the guards and bender is just carryin around that shovel in pure daylight

Definitely ranks up there as one of the all time best episodes to ever be screened on TV, alongside MASH, Cheers, Seinfeld & Simpsons. I've never felt so emotional by watching TV, even moreso from cartoon/animation. I'm not embarass to say it, but I felt a lump in my throat after watching this episode. A beautifully crafted ending, and good build-up with the flashbacks juxtaposing with the present.

I dont understand how everyone can rate this episode so high "A Leela of her own" so low. The jokes in this episode were few and far between, and i cringed everytime Fry said some boring and obvious statement about his brother stealing his identity. The plot development itself was pretty funny, but the dialog was tiring and unimaginative (at least in comparison to other episodes).

This is a masterpiece...One of the best Futurama episodes ever created. It's intelligent, perfectly written and very, very moving. It brought me to tears.

SPOILERS

The whole episode really fleshed out the character of Fry, but the ending did so the most. When Fry learns that his brother really did love him it really does touch the heart. But the episode really makes the viewer think, seeing how Yancy grew up, while Fry essentially stayed immature...There is such amazing emotional depth to this episode.

END SPOILERS

Overall, everyone should see this episode, particularly the FOX executives responsible for the cancellation of the show, so it can haunt them forever in their sleep.

:leela's homeworld:
:the devil's hands are idle playthings:
it was nice to see fry's family and social background.glad to see that yancy wasn't that bad after all.
fry's hairstyle when he was talking to the proffesor in "teenage mutant leela's hurdles"probably evolved into the hairstlye he had in the streetdancing scene of this episode.also loved floating meadows
and the flashbacks into fry's past.another true classic.this one has to be seen to be believed.

A deeply touching episode and one of my favourites... All the way to this point it had seemed like it didn't matter that Fry vanished from the time he was born in, but here the writers show us that Fry really was loved very much. It really brings a tear to the eye, and it's yet another step in Fry's development through the series, definately a five!

I watched this episode. I will admit I had a tear in my eye. I mean it was one of the best episodes I have ever seen. I have seen alot of cartoons and this was the best. It had a little comedy but that was over shadowed by the great story of fry's life and the unexpected ending to the episode. I hope if Futurama is brought back for a few more seasons they create more episodes like this one.

This is my favorite Futurama episode. Like many others have said, it wasn't as funny as other episodes, but the story more than made up for it. I didn't see that ending coming at all, and, yeah, I admit it, I got a little teary-eyed at the end. That is the only time I have EVER gotten like that while watching any T.V. show, much less a cartoon. Is there a way to give this episode 7 stars? Because 5 stars don't do it justice.

But yes, well written and a credit to all those who make futurama!

I'd rather see this show go on forever instead of the Simpsons! I'm just completely Simpsoned out and cannot stand Homers idiotic Lies and distasteful treatment of his own family.

All fans have heard of this episode. Whether they just know the name or basic story, or have seen it numerous times and know the script by heart, this episode is far from overrated. If you haven't seen this episode, then watch it as soon as you possibly can. If you're just a fan of humor, then this episode won't be completely perfect, but it is far from boring or unfunny. If you're a fan of learning some character background or just love hearing the story behind the episodes, you will watch this over and over, I assure you. With a wonderful story and some really sad moments, this episode is perfect. To summarize without giving anything away: Fry is tired of bad luck. He goes to the decaying ruins of Old New York to find his old seven-leaf clover, but it isn't there! Could his own brother be to blame? This episode has scenes of all varieties, from breakdancing to Bender as a train, to Leela kissing Fry's cheek for luck, even if he wanted "tongue luck." This episode is easily among the best.

Futurama here seems to have abandoned all comedy for serious stuff - which isn't helped with Fry's brother being instantly unlikeable. But, it's humourous and the episode works on an emotional level

This episode along with Jurasic Bark and Godfellas is so touching (in a good way, you horrible unga-crunkas).

Sometimes it takes a comedy to do drama best.

Futurama at it's peak, and yes, I know every episode can't be like this: it would turn into a mellodrama, but when you do things right they don't even know you're there at all....

Fantasticalixpealideouaslyawesome.

And if you don't like it you can bite my shinny metal ass.

Not a strong episode in my opinion. I liked the humour that Bender brought to the episode but I was not so fond of the flashback scenes.

This episode is absolutely superb; while not as funny as some of the other episodes, it more than makes up for it with it's emotional storyline and touching end sequence.

I whole heartedly recommend it to any futurama first timer. :)

Amazing episode. Was really funny and also really emotional. While Futurama isn't known for its soundtrack I was surprised as how the ambient tracks at sadder moments worked so well. Anyways TMI this episode was the best

Very, very close to being the best episode of Futurama. The only episode to beat it so far is The Sting, only because it has more jokes, but make no mistake, The Luck Of The Fryrish is no slouch either. This episode easily has the best final act of any Futurama episode so far. The ending alone was enough to put this episode into my all-time favourites, but the plot and the pacing of this episode was also perfect the whole time too. A huge milestone for Futurama, and an episode that cannot be missed by anyone!

I recently started to watch old Futurama episodes again. When I came to this one, I taught about skipping it. I know it to good, and I taught that it could not touch me again the same as before. But I was wrong. After I nevertheless watched it again, near the end I had a lump in the throat. And on the very end I cried again. Funny. This is the only fiction that actually made me cry - ever. And it did it twice.

Hilarious! In this episode, a very rare thing happened: I was genuinely surprised by the ending. It had a message about judging things without being wishy-washy, and that made it important to me. That's what makes Futurama so much better than other cartoons: it can actually do things like that.
Oh, and it's freaking hilarious. :)

I already wrote a review for this episode, but I wanted to congratulate myself on doing something really cool. This is one of my favorite episodes, and I noticed that it was the number 2 most popular episode on the site. So, I found the number 1 episode (The Farnsworth Parabox), and I thought it was crappy. This clearly deserves to be number 1 way more than Farnsworth Parabox does, so I wrote a crappy review for it, and it actually worked! Maybe I'm the only one who cares, but I thought that was pretty cool. Anyway, if you want to know how much I love the episode, check my other review (it's right behind this one.) :)

This was an excellent and moving episode. This is a fan favorite, and it's not hard to see why. Everything about this episode works, both the plot and the jokes. It was kind of a risky move to give a first-time writer an episode like this, but it worked really well. Whoo!

I think you're kind of missing the point of the show. Futurama has always been story-based, and has always built humor around the characters, rather than characters around the humor. If you only like the whacky comedy aspect of the show and despise the touching moments, that's your taste I guess, but your probably watching the wrong show. Go watch Family Guy or South Park, no emotion guaranteed.

As for the episode, truly amazing. Captures everything the show stands for and then some.

Yeah, I don't think it's humanly possible to give a rating below than perfect. It's the best Futurama episode because it nails everything in comedy, drama and emotion. The ending is easily the saddest of all and shows how a brother can truly be the greatest thing in the world. It ties perfectly to Fry's life in the 20th and 31st century and how he was a guy down on his luck. But even the clover never took away who he is today.

10/10, obviously.
