Leela disagrees with the Professor's decision to use a path near a penguin preserve to ship hazardous cargo, and quits her job as captain. She's replaced with Bender, to Fry's chagrin.

4 out of 5.Very funny.Bender and Fry worked wonderfully with each other and Zoidberg was at peak performance!As for that little star wars reference:It was good,and well timed and of course,I got it first time!Free Waterfall senoir,is the father of the hippie in The Problem With Popplers.A nice bit of continuity for us futurama freaks.Plus,the return of Bender's lawyer was pure class.

A slightly above averidge episode which was quite funny, especially Benders roll as a penguin, but I would have liked to see Amy, Hermes, Nibbler and more of Professor Farnsworth.
I wasn't too keen on the rescuers but I liked the addition of the cops and it was good to see Morbo badmouthing humans and I loved the ending too.

Reasonable effort but I felt that who ever directed this episode did a bad job and let it down. The camera angles were all over the place causing the episode to loose it's rythm in the storyline department. Most Futurama episodes are brilliantly directed but this one had so many quigles.
When the penguins dive bombed down the slope the next shot showed them on there feet with no imbetween shot explaining this. I didn't like it when we had the close up of the front of the ship which gave a poor animation feel to the episode. There were many other minor faults caused by bad direction.
I also didn't like the slapstick humour such as the creature attacking the ship in space after the close up and the peace ring formed round the ship which Leela blamed the environmentalist leader for not working. Surely this would never happen unless 100 or so people are absolutley stupid and Leela is normally a captain!
I realise these may be references to films but they don't enhance the episode in any way.
As for the rest of the episode, I liked it but it laked the depth and emotion of the best. I loved the biscuit joke with Fry at the begining and I liked it when Bender fed the penguins by putting the fish in his mouth then whisking them before pooring them into the penguins mouth.
I didn't like the environmentalists at all but it was a good idea to make an episode based on an environmental issue much like episodes of The Simpsons such as "Lisa the Tree Hugger". This is what carried the episode along with Bender who gave a very good performance.
Fry was used in an uninspiring childish way when we all know his character is capible of being much deeper and Leela gave an averidge performance as the role of a protestor which fits in reasonably. We hardly see the rest of the crew, Dr Zoidberg has a short but sweet part which is correct and Professor Farnsworth created the story but was only seen at the begining, a small part with him later would have been nice. Amy and Hermes were not even present!
Overall I would say that this episode doesn't quite make the grade, if they had a decent CGI sequence of the ship crashing in a simular way to "A Clone of my Own" then I would consider raising the score but as it is, it's well worth watching and provides excellent viewing but in Futurama terms it stumbles.

There are so many funny parts in this one I don't know where to begin. That robot operating in the MASH unit really tells people what that 70's series was like. "Sound effects added to lessen tragedy" is probably the best use of subtitles. And Free Waterfall Sr. couldn't fathom spaceships moving in three dimensions!
This one is a keeper, so fire up your VCR next time you see it!

A decent episode that makes good viewing, but doens't quite rank with the best. The part in which Bender believes he's a penguin is a little too short-lived, but none the less this episode driven on the theme of animal rights is a big improvement on 'the Problem with Popplers'.
I love the idea that Pluto has now become a penguin sanctuary. One of the funniest little low-key jokes that runs throughout the series is seeing how the ecosystems have changed over time and the roles of animals have been distorted - owls and golden marmosets are now street animals, as we have learnt from other episodes. The subplot involving Fry and Dr Zoidberg trying to rescue Bender and ending up leaving space as they know it was very well done indeed. I particualrly liked the moral discussion by Leela at the end, on how maybe nature is best left to sort itself out, rather than have humans interfering and making things go wrong trying to fix them, and the last sequence, with the two armed penguins, was very haunting and poignent. Not a classic of the third season, but a good one.
And those poor penguins!

While this might not be the best episode 'technically' or otherwise, it made me laugh more than any other.
The timing of nearly every joke was perfect. The look on Zoidbergs face as he watches a plate of food hit the wall, the the brief moment before hitting the floor to eat it. Benders reboot sequence, and following love scene with the penguins.
This is futurama at its funniest.

Not the best but i've seen a lot worse. Of course this could be because 'That's Lobstertainment' was broadcast just before.
Excellent use of characters, showing their flaws with reckless abandon.
Good points:
Bender's penguin act.
Bender's R2D2 impersonation.

Storyline became a little sketchy in parts (for continuity freaks only).

Very funny episode. Farnsworth had some great lines ("To avoid the tollbooth."). Zoidberg had some good ones, too. The planets' surfaces looked cool.
I liked the plot with the penguins and the Fry/Bender subplot. But, too many things went on during this episode. Leela's protesting, Bender thinking he's a penguin, Fry and Bender fighting then Fry looking for Bender. Near the middle of the show things seemed to be going nowhere. I loved this episode. Apart from being the first episode I have seen on Australian TV in ages it provided lots of good laughs. I liked how they accually had Zoidberg play a role as it helped to develop his character further. I also really like how Zoidberg follows whoever is captain. Another good thing about this episode was that it showed what the world looked like through the eyes of Bender. Zoidberg was not the only character to develop, when Leela joined the protestors and refused to kill the penguins it really developed her character. This episode is full of laughs, mainly coming from Zoidberg. Dispite some slow points in the middle this episode is great...then again are not all Futurama episodes great?

pretty good diologue with Bender as a bas ass old style ship captain (British viewers may think of the bbc series 'Hornblower'). Great quote, with fry at the captains table insulting Bender, who stands up and replies "Sir, you forget yourself!" or Zoidbergs "its been an honour serving with you, Captain" to Fry when the ship is being attacked by a giant space squid.

And the punch lines flowed with gold.....I loved it. Sr. Waterfall, the father of the guy in the Popplers one, and I'm guessing the grandfather...or whatever or the guy who becomes Zoidberg's lawyer in the eating the flag episode, was great.

It was OK, but I've seen better. One quote that had me busting out laughing was Fry insulting Bender (I think). It was something along the lines of, "You have a stupid face that's as dumb as a butt." It was longer I think and I'd really like to know what it was. Anyone know?

This episode kicked major butt, had me laughing through it all. The best part was Fry's toast to Bender "To Bender, who's the best: at being a big stupid jerk, who's face is dumb as a butt." I laughed for a good five minutes after hearing that. Excellent!

I'm sorry; there's just no other way to put it; this one sucks. It wasn't terribly funny, it didn't do anything to advance the characters at all, and I just found myself dissapointed. On the other hand, this episode gets a point for the ending where the penguins turn on each other... that has some funny possibilities.

I really like the part when Bender was attacked by a killer whale and then started rebooting and started acting like a penguin and while he was being a penguin.
I only part i didnt like was when he chopped up the fish with his mouth and gave it to the baby penguins. it looked like he was throwing up. Now thats just wrong.
even with that part it still was a great episode.

Me being a Bender fan absolutly loved this episode! It was sooo funny to see Bender as a penguin.
It was worth watching this episode just to see Bender in his tux.
It was sweet with Bender as captain and Leela showing her care for the enviroment. It was kin of disturbing when Bender threw up into the baby penguin's beaks but hilarious. Also nice to see the two police, love them.
Zoidberg shone in this episode, strutting his stuff but not taking the limelight. Perfection!

Frankly, any episode that features a huge amount of Bender is usually great. And this episode is. And that's why I said it. (thankyou Morgan Proctor!)
This episode features some truly hillarious gags (for example, the peace ring that the PE ship just flies over), some great lines ("The fools! If only they had built it with 6001 hulls! When will they learn..."), and some incredibly (though disturbingly) cute moments with Penguin Bender.
An all round excellent episode.

It's this episode that really made me start to like Zoidberg. I'd never been too fond of him until now, but some of his lines in this episode are classics -"Dammit Fry ! He may have done wrong, but he's still your captain."

This episode bring me to tears laughing every time I see it! So many great moments! "Sir, you forget yourself!" has to be one of the best lines I've heard! Wiggles cannot be topped! Free Waterfall Jr creeped me out a bit, but other than that, I love this show.

I watched this one again last night and it made me think about adding it to the classics so I have with a superb rating. other fans have not formed the same opinion though. but why? This episode combines Zoidberg with fry and bender on the ship for some of the best ever moments on Futurama and that's saying alot! there is also the wierd green peace guy for added measure!

By weird coincidence I was about to catch "March of the Penguins" and stumbled upon this gem instead. Quick-fire and zany to the very extreme. To heck with the lack of "depth" when I can't even recall laughing as much during any of the previous episodes. Bender and his polar co-inhabitants were the stars in this one.

This was the episode that made me get the S3 DVD. I hadn't seen it before I purhcased the set, and I would have hated blowing my money on the hope of one great episode. But I'm glad I finally saw it because it was wonderful! I personally love the killer whale killing all the penguins at the end...

There may be some editing and pacing issues that could be tightened up but the two gems of this episode are the one-liners based on their respective references and the over-all idea that nature will always be a response to outside forces. Bender as the non-drunk captain is hilarious when compared to the real-life Exxon Valdies reference the joke points to. And Fry's lament of "if only they'd built it (the oil tanker) with six-thousand and ONE hauls. The fools, when will they learn!" truely hits the mark about the falicy in believing more "band-aids" are the way to fix large problems. The writers are genius.

Another hilarious episode. Bender, Zoidberg and Fry really shine here. The downside is that the stuff with Leela isn't all that interesting, but the good outshines the bad (as is the case with nearly every episode).
