Not very funny at all IMHO. nappster.com was pretty lame. Hopefully the last episode of the third season won't set the style nor quality of the forth.

I would say this episode is about averidge, it relied too much on the guest star but they still managed to pull off a pretty good episode. It contains an internet scene which I always love and some great moments. The ideas in this episode were very interesting and worked well too. Very average with nothing very wrong and little exceptional.

Wow, can we kiss up to Lucy Liu some more please? Not! Was she under contract to appear in this episode and were they under contract to treat her nicely. Since when is Lucy Liu worthy of that kind of celbrity fame. She plays a sterotype on Alley Mcbeal and was in the stink-fest Charlie's Angels. Whoop-de-crap.

I just saw this episode for the first time and i don't know why its rated 76% on here. My friend and I laughed out loud as hard as possible several times. The Scary Door rules! C'mon, the guy is actualyl hitler and eva braun becomes a fly-man and Bender saw that coming? I almost died!
This was a G-R-E-A-T GREAT episode.

"i'm sick of parallel bender lording his cowboy hat over me!"
"...when boy bands roamed the earth"
alright, I hate lucy liu, but it was so worth it to see "the scary door." ha, they have mastered the art of spoofing.
i thought the areas surrounding the plot were generally unfunny (nappster, lucy, etc) but the other jokes and delivery made it worth watching. thank goodness!

Although it was a very funny episode, Lucy lui spoiled it for me. I think that if Fry is truely in love with Leela, which is suggested in many other episodes, he should not fall for new comers so easily.

It was a good episode up until Lucy Liu appeared: she's no fun at all. The "illegal copies are bad" message was so heavy-handed it took alot the fun out of the episode for me; a few jokes about it would have been fine, but having a whole moral conclusion about it cheapened the episode.

I Dated A Robot is easily the most under-rated episode of Futurama! Sure there's no deep meaning or moral to the story, and yeah OK Lucy Lu was over used, and the Don't date robots video goes on too long... But the characters are all on top form, The Scary Door is back, they visit Jurassic(kiddy)Park, and we learn that The Space Pope really is reptilian!
I Dated a Robot is a wonderfuly silly, very enjoyable episode. Don't believe the negative response from most fans!

The opening was awesome because Fry was all excited about being in the year 3000 and went off to do some crazy stuff like travelling to the edge of the Universe. In some episodes you get the feeling that being in the distant future is no big deal.. but they Fry goes and does something crazy - cracked me up seeing a parking lot at the edge of the Universe. How many hands is Fry going to lose?!?
The box of 10 blank robots cracked me up, especially since they were Mac formatted! The 2 second 'space pope' credits cracked me up, but also got my imagination working overtime, wonder what other things he might be connected with. I love it... in 2 seconds they instantly create and open up an entire new part of the Universe!

Not as bad as i would have thought it to be. One problem though, Bender and Liu at the end were gonig to get hitched. Then there's nothing explaining why she is completely absent from evereything after that.

Best lines:

Erm... the whole premise was funny, there weren't many good lines though. With the following exception.

Everything up until the Liu Bot shows up was pure gold. "These new hands are great. I'm going to break them in tonight." and such. Zoidberg had some good lines. "Did you seem me escaping, I was all like 'whoopwoopwoop!" I won't say Lucy Liu ruined the episode; she did have some good lines as well. "You should write a book, Fry. People need to know about the CAN EAT MORE!" They just shouldn't have relied on her relative popularity at the time to carry the season finale.

The early stuff where Fry's living out his dreams about the future were kind of neat. Oddly enough I'd say the Lucy Liu bot he originally created was also cute at times. The Madeline Albright parody was kind of cute. The Scary Door is a bit overrated.

There are some things though that seem like odd or misguided ideas. I actually kind of liked Lucy Liu on Ally McBeal. The character was kind of a stereotype, but she did it well. She was fairly funny in the role. She also did moderately okay when she guested on the X-Files in her pre-Ally McBeal days. So I think her voicing a guest character could have been fine.

The problem is Lucy Liu as herself seems to be not all that interesting. Or in least herself as presented here was kind of ehh. The main thing she has going for her then is her looks. In animation this is generally not very relevant. It might have almost been better to have an ep where Lucy Liu instead voiced a guest character. Or just stuck with her as a silly robot creation. Then have Fry realize somehow it's love for him wasn't real. I imagine there could've even been ways to have that realization be funny.

Which leads to the other problem I have the more I see it. They seemed to show instead that the Liubot maybe did truly love him. At the very least it risked its life to save him. The reward for that heroism? A lecture on illegal downloading that ends with them deleting Liubot. The very end with Bender gave that a bit of a comic punch, but still in some ways its kind of annoying. Like those old stories where the white guy's minority girlfriend would conveniently die at the end so he's free to be with "real women" stories. Okay it's not that bad, but I didn't like that element anyway.

I agree with review #70 by andromache: "It has some really funny moments, but the preachiness"

Individual gags here and there were funny, but the overall repetition of the "illegal copies are bad" message was boring/annoying. Okay, we get it. Move on, already.

Also, what's the fuss over Lucy Liu? Why would he be so infatuated with her? Exactly ONE WEEK after being married to Leela??!!

So, individual gags are great but the episode has a lot of problems.

I have seen this episode before and while I can't remember most of it, I do remember anti-piracy preach asslord didley squat monkey poo fart commentary. What people need to realize is that most bands don't make a lot of money. They sure don't make anything off CDs, that all goes to the record companies. They make (very little) money off touring and merchandise. Sure, maybe the big name bands were losing money, but weren't they already living in luxury anyway? And since when is music even an occupation? As a guitar player, I'd say to make good money off playing guitar in a band is a sheer miracle.

The only reason I'm giving this episode a 2 is because like I said, I can't remember it. I may have laughed.

This site needs a better rateings system :D. I want to give the first half 5 and the second half 2, all the way up to Lucy Lui is very funny...
"So there are infinite numbers of Parrallel universes?"
"Nope, just the two"
Scary door is one of the funniest Futurama gags ever, and the "Sponsered By The Space Pope" is a fantastic one liner. But the second half was total mince, allthough Id like to say to those people who moaned about them kissing Lucy Luis ass, you need to go back to watching cartoons made for children. The ass kissing was a joke, they were satirising stars, who demand to be talked up and mention their new book/movie/song at every possible opertunity, when they appear on TV

Yeah, Lucy Liu was overused, but that doesn't justify the harsh blowback this episode has gotten.

I LOVE that 'Twilight Zone' parody at the beginning, melding in five or six plot twists. Great spoof.

Not to mention Liu continously saying in the robotic voice, "PHILLIP J. FRY."

And: "I will always remember you, Fry...MEMORY DELETED."

Plus, how could any computer user not love the "Take a moment to register me" exchange?

This must be the worst Futurama episode.

The napster thing is an annoying contemporary reference... Futurama is not contemporary...

And all the Lucie Lue (however it's spelled) arse-licking was just stupid... She's a no good actress anyway. WTF was this...

Also with all due respect the Robot-Human relationship REALLY makes no sense...

Luckily this episode is unique in it's suckiness ;-).

I don't know why this episode has such a bad percentage. It was one of the best episodes. It had so many funny lines. i.e. when fry and luibot are repeatedly saying "i love you" to each other the professor says "oh no the robot is stuck in an infinite loop and fry is just an idiot. That had me laughing my ass off. And the ending...
luibot:i will always remember you fry, *MEMORY DELETED*. lol.
And the whole idea of downloading celebrites and the internet. Brilliant.

This was hilarious! You people are crazy. It deserves 5 points just for the space pope. But there were so many other funny parts too.

"MASSIVE CORN CLOG!"

Sassy Dr. Zoidberg waving his claw!

Madeleine Albright!

Competent Lawyer -> Ice Queen -> Erotic Assassin

I also love the reference later on with Bender and the ship when Lucy Liu is still shut in his chest.

Even though Lucy Liu is the sexiest woman on the face of this Earth, this episode could earn a 5 just on the comedy value alone.

"Massive corn clog in Port 7!" Sure, it's funny when you're watching; then later on, when you're sitting around and have nothing to do but count orifices, it's funny yet again.

C'mon everyone this is a great episode. If not for the realilty of society's obsession with celebrities and sad longing to be involved romantically with a vapid hollywood movie star, but for the American cut and paste attitute. How many people out there can relate to the awful Amtrak voice over the phone saying "you have selected NEW YORK PENN STATION!"

An invasion of Lucy Liu robots is very funny when they are terrorizing everyone. I like it when Fry got betrayed in the end now that she loves Bender now. The second part I liked was Bender's disgrace that he does not like humans dating robots. That was pure classic! Bravo!!

nappster (the comapny) wasn't really funny. Lucy Liu didn't bother me none, but I really don't know who she is....

The beginning scary door is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Pretty much the best parody ever.

I gave it a 5, just 'cause it's full of good jokes. The people who think it's preachy are stupid.

For the most part, I liked the episode. I had no idea who Lucy Liu was, and I wasn't even sure if she was a real celebity. Still, I'm sure a lot of us have dreamed about dating our favourite celebrity. So, because of that, I'm sure many can relate to that - regardless of what your thoughts would be on Lucy Liu, in particular.

It does seem like the episode was a bit preachy, though - and basically made it clear that the writers of the show are against firesharing. So that part kind of ruined it for me.

I also wish they expanded more on that parallel universe.

Normally I root for thed underdog, but unfortunately this time I have to agree with the general consensus. I don't find Lucy Lui(sp?) funny, attractive, or even a good actress, and the way everyone in this episode kisses her ass and talks her up is very annoying. The plot was ok, but could have been better as well. But thanks to the episode centering around Lui, it is easily my least fav ep, and this is coming from a fan who rates 99% of the episodes at 4-5.

Worst.Episode.Everrrrr! Dull trashy episode that seems to be mostly a vehicle for Lucy Lui who I don't recall being that big a star even when this first aired.
