The episode was not fantastic (could of been better) but at the same time it provided great entertainment. I liked all the cameos (even Dwight!) even though I wish they were a little more hefty. But alas only 30 minutes is not enough time for my Futurama fix. There were really good gags and it has been awhile since I've seen an enjoyable Leela centered episode. I'd give it the letter grade of a 'B'. I want to watch it again but I forgot to tape it :(

An episode that probably will garner the most praise from baseball fans -- and I am one of those! Loved the Bob Uecker and Hank Aaron cameos and the "Black Bar Generator" that Bender accidentally unplugged. Chock full of good sports jokes like the Green Monster in Boston. Only 2 more episodes left this season, people! :(

Overall a pretty good episode. I liked Hermes collecting and filing his blernsball sweat. Frye had some good lines, and I liked the fact that blernsball was brought back into the Futurama world. The thing is, I try and enjoy every new episode from now on that much more since Fox are assholes in suits with no sense of humor.

A solid, if unspectacular episode. It wasn't one that screamed "Download/Tape Me", but I still liked it. The black-bar generator and the following line "I win" are classic. However, I know I'm going to get crap for this, but I'm getting a little tired of all these Leela-centric or Bender-centric episodes. It seems to have been a while since there was a good Fry ep (not counting last week). Let the other characters have some time! All in all, a pretty cute/chuckling episode.

This was a good episode. I love anything with scruffy "take your base". I liked alot of the jokes in this episode. The one thing it missed was "MULTIBALL."Come on we have seen blernsball once and want all of the good stuff like third ball locked. The hit here to win game was funny though.

Well....

There were some good things. Some great jokes here and there, but overall, it left me with a feeling that it should have been much better. True, there were good sports jokes (ala the Green Monster) as well as good cameos. However, I felt that the episode was trying to be a little serious when it should have been more light hearted.

Also, the ending really sucked.

It was good, not wonderful, but better than average. I found myslef laughing more than i usually do, so I liked it. There were lots of funny moments. Ending could have been better though. I would have liked to see Fry interact with leela at the end.. that would have made the episode.

I thought this was a pretty good episode. I agree with Brian; I'm enjoying each one more now that I know the show is going to end. Great parts included the "one and two zeroes" jokes, and I never got tired of seeing people get hit in the face with a baseball. I agree that the ending was a disappointment, though.

All in all, a very cool departure into the sports world for Futurama. I think Bob Uecker needed another sportscaster to play off of though, and my choice would have been Morbo. Imagine the potential for a laugh-riot that might have created!

I liked this episode, cuz theres been a while since there was an episode with that many great gags.
Could have used more of the Futurama cast though, but it is one of the pretty funny Futurama episodes (thats like almost every episode). i give it a 5 to raise the % thingy, cuz it is a over 80% episode.

This episode was an insult to all the good Futurama that has been made. Let's face it- most of season four has stunk awfully to the point where it is about as (un)funny as King of the Hill. If I had just started watching Futurama at this episode, I certainly would not think much of the series. I for one am tired of this downtrend in the humor of the episodes. "A Leela of Her Own" wasn't completely bad, it had a few chuckles. None were really all that great but it wasn't completely devoid of humor. But it is a perfect example of what has gone wrong. The jokes are few and WEAK and it has become a drama. This one didn't even make a good drama mostly due to the bad ending. Something has happened and thats a real shame because Futurama used to be so so good. We can only hope the problem is fixed soon, or at this rate Fox has reason to threaten to cancel or dare I say cancel Futurama.

I think this was an average Futurama episode. It was much better than I thought it would be after reading the ep. description. I would like to bring up that this episode was made as part of the season 3 batch, so it isn't correct to say season four "sucks" (the two eps from the 4th batch were very good, in my opinion).

Well, this episode was enjoyable only for people from the one single country in the world where people play baseball. I didn't get most of the jokes, I wouldn't even know what a baseball player in Leelas position is supposed to do with the ball. What was the meaning of "beans" and the green monster? 1 point.

Thought it was decent. Not the best but certainly not the worst. Probably the funniest parts I saw were when Fry spat the wine out on Bender, then there was a slight pause and Bender spat wine out on Fry. Thought was hilerious. All in all decent, not as good as some others but good enough.

I thought it was a great episode although i would have liked to see the madness of that third ball locking. the huge mice helped ad to the madness though. Oh, and i just wanted to point out comment #6 by evan so everyone else can boggle at his resoning. he says "It seems to have been a while since there was a good Fry ep (not counting last week)." Huh? you doof. best line in the show was... "being a bum knows no gender!"

Pretty funny episode, but not great. Bender was pretty funny with his one and two zeros bit. The spanish bean commercial was pretty cool too. But blernsball was a complete disapointment. Nothing weird about it. I thought they could have done a lot better with it. But on the other hand, Leela episodes are usually the worst, and this is the best leela ep.

Good episode. I loved the scene with the ambulances rounding the bases! Reminded me of my own baseball career. I also liked the fact that they didn't take the easy way out and do a happy ending.

I rule this one a double down the line into the right field corner, stretched into a triple with agressive base running.

I love Futurama for it's cutting edge funny makeing and space-age-sience-fiction, what with the rocket ships, and the space alians, and the laughing out loud, and the exploding! Mo'hoy.

"A leela of her own" is the worst episode i have ever seen. It wasn't funny ( as frightening as that sounds ). I don't know...I didn't enjoy this episode at all!
Maybe a few snickers and a smile or two but still.....you could expect alot more from futurama!
Even though I didn't like this episode I can't give it a grade lower than 5 ( I give every episode a 5). Futurama is the best show i have ever seen . I hate to see it being cancled. I can't give any episode less than a 5.

Oh, I read a lot of 'entertaining', very funny, now even the truth is being unveiled: people who always rate episodes with a 5! So that's what it's all about... people who say this episode is funny and entertaining are maybe used to stare at their Screensaver while they download these episodes. May be. May as well be that some people would even eat their own shit before they accept that Futurama is getting even worse. And in a few years they even laugh when nothing even happened at all just to make sure their friends who are present can hear how very funny Futurama is!!! THIS is crap. Not the faked one - the real one! Kids, take a ball and go outside to play or go swimming or anything but please stop rating every episode with 5! Let serious people do the rating unless you find it ok when a rotting sandwich is still kept fresh on the outside...

is definitely the worst futurama episode that has ever been aired. Was too serious, with few gags. Futurama is about comeedy, not making a statement about sexism (in an unamusing way). Maybe it is time for the series to reach its natural conclusion cause they cant seem to think of new comedy?

It's a better than average episode, it's got a good plot and the jokes are funny, but it pales in comparison to The Simpsons' "Homer at the Bat".

The first few minutes reminded me of that episode of "Seinfeld" where Jerry tries to help the Pakistani restaurant owner, and the ending could have done without the towel gag.

A mostly likeable, if somewhat thinly plotted episode, helped no end by the scenes in the pizza parlour and its alien owners.

The main storyline, involving Leela, is mostly watchable, and manages to include some nice sequences (a good example being Bender and Amy during the slow motion shot, and also Hermes preserving his sweat). The worst player in all history (I've forgotten his name) was also a nice touch.

My major gripe? The ending. The fact that Leela failed in her quest is somewhat unsatisfactory. Or rather, very unsatisfactory. I know that some people hate happy endings, but surely they're better than something that ends in this kind of depressingly humourless way?

Good episode, but not enough Sci-Fi or cool visuals. I’m not that keen on sport related episodes, and Blurnsball wasn’t insane enough. Some great moments, but as a whole I didn’t find it anything special. Bender was the comic relief, Leela was in character, nothing much to complain about, but nothing particularly original either, just another good Futurama.

Urgh, it's really terrible to realise this actually *was* a Futurama-episode.

Sure it had some good stuff in it, but come on! In comparison to what brilliant episodes have been made in the past, this was not good enough by far. It lacked every form of freshness, absurdism and over-the-top-ness that makes this show so great. Remember the first appearance of Blernsball in Futurama? THAT was weird, ergo fantastic! This was just plain dumb stupid sports. The only nice touch was the appearance of the giant mice in the end.

I admit: I'm Dutch and don't know much (if anything) about the American baseball-culture, but I don't think an episode may revolve around one subject this intensively.

I think this was the worst episode so far. Which makes me extremely sad!

The problem with having too much Lella in an episode is that the actress who does her voice doesn't do it well, it doesn't keep up with the other characters (its too full or something, doesn't work for cartoons). It doesn't make much sense that she'd be pitching in the first place, which is a conceptual flaw with the episode. I'd expect Fry to have a bigger part, since he had probably played baseball as a kid. Ah well, whatever.

Just re-watched it.

The gags were mainly chuckle-worthy, but it was a bit disappointing that there were no big laughs at all. The story progressed fairly nicely, although the reason they were playing Blernsball in the beginning (to teach the immigrants) wasn't too well thought out, IMO.

It's above-average for TV but a little below-average for Futurama.

The plot wasn't great, but I laughed a lot. I liked all the background signs and every time someone got beaned. Bender was funny and looked good in his sunglasses and jacket.

All the background signs, while funny, reminded me of The Simpsons. Jackie's character wasn't needed. She felt kind of tacked on. There wasn't enough Fry.

i was heavily intoxicated when i first saw this episode so it took a while for the gags to kick in. but when i finally realized that leela was 'beaning' aliens that never played before, i was hooked. i can always count on the four ambulances going around the diamond for a laugh. the episode started to lag once leela realized that she sucked. i'm glad i'm not the only one who taped every episode.

This is badly underestimated. I thought it was absolutely fantastic, it is great to see Blernsball being played again. Bender made a great agent.

Best Lines:

Bender:'Stick a one and two zeros in front and you've got a deal.'
Leela:'How much did you get?'
Bender:'One hundred dollars.'

Not the exact words but something like that. Just one small fault: Blernsball seemed moderately understandable, nothing of the 'Multiball! MULTIBALL!!! BLEEEEERRRRRRRRNNNNN!!!!!!' of it's first appearence.

This episode fell flat on several counts. It's another episode that could be regarded as Presentorama instead of Futurama.

First off, Blernsball: what made the sport so great in ep. 105 was that it was incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't lived in the future for a while (i.e. Fry and the viewers). That it looked like baseball but it had different score sheets, multi-ball, motorbikes and giant spiders that displayed it sure as hell WASN'T baseball.
But here...oh no! It's just baseball with a rubber string! When did that happen? Although I did like the ambulances taking the players from base to base.

Then there's the issues. Sexism in sport is well trodden ground and could be featured in any contemporary sitcom. Far more interesting and amusing were Bender's rants in 105 about the way robots were made to do all the "crapwork" in Blernsball and not allowed on the field.
Then there were also the immigrant martians. If this was an attempt to cover the topic of xenophobia or racism then it was weak. They were boring characters, it's no wonder Farnsworth hated them!

The cameos weren't too bad though. Hank Arron XXIV was a good creation: the worst Blernsball and football player in history who made a living from sitting in a museum all day and drank Wade Boggs. Bob Uecker made a good announcer too.

However, I have to say one thing about the ending: it wasn't THAT bad. At least that tedious Jackie Anderson got her comeuppance!

Some good jokes here and there, but what it needed was a plot that was more Futurama and less Simpsons.

This episode was just a mess.
1. I know nothing about baseball, so most of the good jokes and concepts went over my head.
2. Blernsball was introduced as a weird and incomprehensible future sport, so serious issues like sexism feel a bit out of place. I found myself wondering why a boring character like Jackie Anderson was taking blernsball so seriously- it's a sport with giant spiders, a ball on elastic and zeppelin crashes. Would've been better with a more serious sport as the focus.
3. The Italianesque aliens were funny at first, but the "we've made a pizza with something disgusting in it" joke got old.
I can't think of a single episode that I've hated, but this one comes pretty close.

This episode, I thought, was fairly poor. It seemed like a rip-off of the show, for, while it had the gags and characters, and had few real challenges and broke the rules with the characters. Leela is suppoused to be the smart one, you wonder why the put a cyclops as the pitcher, or why Bender is the agent, seems like mere cut and pasting of characters. Futurama usually serves up some fairly clever ideas, but here we don't even get a real extension of Blernsball, in fact it pretty much breaks the rules, by showing us it is merely baseball on a string, with some futuristic cut and paste. Ah well~ at least its only one.

Why do I get the feeling that this episode was rated badly by primarily males who feel threated by women in athletics? Any Leela episode is a joy, and this one was right up there. I thought the animators did an excellent job on Leela's pitching motion. As as an old Red Sox fan, I had to appreciate the "Wade Boggs ... goes down smooth" line. When I've seen the 48% average rating listed on CGEF, I truly was expecting the worst out of this episode, but it's not as bad as most people made it look like. However, baseball knowledge is a plus when it comes to that episode; if you hate baseball you're likely to hate that episode.

Even though the blernsball aspect wasn't as wacky, confusing and hilarious than in Fear Of A Bot Planet, it did still offer it's fair amount of jokes (though the bean joke was WAY overused, some variance over it would have been nice) and it offered a decent showing, although it has a pretty thin plot. The pizzeria sub-plot didn't added much to the episode and could have been easily left out. The ending didn't felt right either. It's not that I wanted the ending to be happy, but the way it has been delivered felt rather clumsy.

It's not the best episode out there, but it isn't the worst episode of the series as many reviewers made it look like. It's not impressive, though.

I'm not used to giving bad reviews but man, was the ending crapy or what!? I mean I'm happy that they did an epidsode evoling around Leela but this is one of the more "loser" epidsode I've seen. Still some parts were funny I must admit,but the ending could use some work.

It's so fashonable to have a go at this episode, when i saw that it only had a percentage of 49% i almost wanted to kill all those that said the ending sucked. This is a show that has to fit in a story, good animation, and laughs, you shouldn't expect a twist ending. Also some classic one liners were delivered by Bender and some great Bob Ueker jokes. And if you can't see that then you should ask yourself one question- Do i belong on this site?

This episode was awesome. Screw the rest of you. "When are people finally going to realize that all races are equally inferior to robots." That is definately one of the best lines in the whole series. The only problem in the episode was that the Red Sox were playing the Mets, which is inexplicable due to the fact that theyre in seperate leagues. But who cares its the future.

The ending didn't suck either.

This episode had everything! Jokes about immigrants, Hank Aaron drinking out of Wade Bogg's head jar? What more could you ask for?

As many...MANY... people have said, this episode was not the best Futurama episode by a long shot.

However... it is a pretty solid episode IMO, with alot of laughs. The foreign aliens spring to mind, as does the unforgettable line "Ahh... Wade Boggs... goes down smoooth"

It has a pretty crumby story that just manages to keep it together long enough for it to make it to 'good episode' status, IMO.

I do not understand why this episode is so vilified. The only part I disliked was one of the act breaks (Leela accidentally punching the professor). Other than that, the episode is excellent. It contains one of my favorite jokes ever: "How much did you get me? - A thousand and one pesos"

I can't say its the worst episode I've seen, but its definately bottom 5. I'm willing to watch it (because its Futurama) but I dont get as excited as I normally would.

Scratch would I said in the parentheses. I won't watch Cryonic woman, that episode is unbearable.

This episode's main problem is that the story is too tired for the episode to have any dynamic. Still, the Cygnoids and some of the Blurnsball pieces are funny, but the story is too unoriginal

One of the absolute worst episodes.
Hank Aaron is the worst guest appearance in the show's run, being completely unable to act. The plot is utterly boring and whilst there are some funny moments, there are considerably less than your average episode of the show.

I was surprised to see the low ranking of that episode, I never thought of it as beeing that bad. It's nothing special, an average ep, which means ok (although I have to admit I don't like any of the guest cameos - but I never used to like that special guest heads, I think they hardly do a story good). There sure are worse episodes, like 'Bendin in the wind' or those stupid xmas eps

I guess if you're not a baseball fan this episode wouldnt be very interesting, but I like the message of Leela becoming the first female blernsball player and the other female character, Jackie(I think), both trying to step up their games to get recognition, even if both got opposite results. Not a great story, but a great message. If I could give it a three and a half I would, but since I cant I'll go 4.

This was a very awful, not funny, not interesting episode. According to the DVD commentary, fans thought That's Lobstertainment was the worst episode of the series, but after watching fans' reaction to this, as well as my own... I don't know.

This is rated lower than 'Attack of the Killer App?' How is that even possible? Leela playing blernsball vs Leela with a singing boil on her a**.

Anyways serious review. I love baseball, so I'm clearly biased towards sports episodes. This is in no way one of the worst episodes of Futurama. After watching most of the new episodes, the originals are works of art. I'm giving this a 5 (would get a 3 otherwise) just by comparison with some of the new ones.

This one really isn't that bad, though I love baseball as much as I love Futurama, so perhaps I'm biased. I may have given this a 4 since there are so many baseball jokes, but this episode was so generic that it could have been on any show without a whole lot of rewriting. For that, I'll give it a 3. This is Futurama, use your setting to its full effect.

One of the verrrrrry few futurama episodes I actually dislike (the only other two being I Dated a Robot and yo Leela Leela). First off, the whole premise is lame - what, they really have no women's sports teams in the year 3000's so Leela has to play on a men's team? That sounds more like the past than the future. Second, the only joke seems to be hahaha she's a woman and only has one eye, no depth perception yo and did you notice she's a woman hahahaha? That joke wasn't that funny the first time let alone a whole ep about it. The only part I liked was the alien pizza shop at the beginning the whole thing should have been about that.

Why does the ending need to be so unforgiving. We all know Leela try to do her best to not be the worst, but some random crap happened out of no where and it just flipped a middle finger right at the Leela Fans.
