Just a few quick thoughts...I thought as a whole it was pretty good. Fry had some good quotes, and the constant whipping was funny...to a point. My question is, where has Nibbler been? He's the forgotten character of the season. Everyone, keep writing letters to Fox...I'm gonna shit if they go through with the cancellation! Here's to another new episode next week...

i thought this was a great episode
it had funny lines, character twists, and made fun of egyptians.

"who was that guy who used to bend things? oh yeah hermes"-fry

"you know what my least favorite thing about being a slave is they make you work and don't pay you or let you be free"-fry "that's the only thing about being a slave"-leela

i thought i noticed something different in here"-fry noticing a giant stone block

I though this was very funny episode. I like the line under the Futurama title this week, "Psst...there is going to be a party at your house after the show." I enjoyed the return of scruffy. The egyption conspracy joke was pretty funney(how the egyptions learned from the humans). All in all it was good but instead of blowing up the statue with alchohol the should have encorperated Zapp to save them somehow. I love Zapp he is a good addition to any episode.

Well i think this was a good episode, I laughed many times, i loved the warship of the wall and "we are dumb" that was great. I liked to see the characters dressed up differently, it was nice to see leela in somthing other than black pants! It was better than last week but not as good as "love and rocket" which is my fav episode ever! Looking forward to next week's episdod!

Just so-so, although it pains me to say it. But *any* episode of Futurama is better than anything else on television. I'm always thankful for a new episode. And hey, it could have been worse.

It could have been "Friends."

One thing I noticed: When Bender is trying to get a rollerblading/dancing move named after himself ("Hey! Do the Bender! This move is called the Bender!"), and he's pushed away, doesn't it seem like a joke is cut out there? He's pushed away, he *allllmost* falls into the street, then he rights himself. Off in the distance, if you listen closely right before the scene change, you can hear the approach of one of the spaceship/cars.

I wonder if there was a joke about him getting hit by a car that was cut out? The scene seems to end so abruptly, and with no punchline. I mean, why bother showing Bender getting pushed away and almost falling in the street if nothing happens; not even a comment from Bender afterwards? They could have just shown him walking away, depressed after getting sent away by the rollerbladers and had the same effect.

An okay episode, some of the jokes were pretty good "We're Dumb!" Still, I think it's obvious by now that Bender can't carry an episode. There are great Bender subplots, such as in "Put Your Head on My Shoulder," but the great majority of Bender episodes are kind of bad. This season seems to be going consistently downhill, the first two eps were classic, the third great, and the rest have been medicore.

I didn't think this was one of Futurama's best. I thought it started off great, but when Fry, Leela and Bender became slaves on Osiris 4 it kind of went down hill from there. Something I didn't get is why Leela didn't try to think of a way for them to escape. Right in the beginning when that guy that signed for the giant sandstone block said that they were all slaves she should've kicked his ass and that would've been the end of it. Instead she just excepted it and went along with it not even attempting to escape... until she Fry, and Bender were trapped in the pharoah's tomb. I give this a C- or a rating of 2 to put it simply.

I don't know. The first half of the episode, especially Bender's surprise funeral, had me laughing- even though I was trying not to 'cause I have bronchitis :p
But after a while the humor dwindled and it wasn't nearly as funny. I liked the appearance of the Australian guy, and the 'Egyptian' priests were cleverly portrayed.
Not the best episode, but not bad either.

I think we see Bender at his best. Self love over all.
On the other hand I think we all have a need to be remembred after were gone. Or, is it more a fear that we will be forgoten. Ether way. Bender show us all that enslaving a world and becoming hated is one way to make your mark in history.

This was pretty bad. Unless there's been some changes in the episodes I've missed, Bender was rather out of character. The character interaction I enjoy was largely absent. While good episodes have several plot threads or themes, this one simply presented us with the fact that Bender (now) wants to be remembered -- again and again and again, and with the subtlety of, well, an Egyptian monument. The obvious opportunities for Ozymandias jokes were missed. Both my brother and I laughed more at King of the Hill.

A poor episode - it had it's moments, but I had one big problem: Bender. There have been some great episodes with Bender as the focus, but never have I felt so aggravated at a story featuring him. Alright, so bender is a rather cold individual at times, and rather loud - but in this episode he was overly loud and far too cruel, to the point where it was just annoying and no longer funny.

Nothing special here. The Egyptian plot seemed a little thin... It was nice to see Leela in the short skirt thing, but I could have gone for some sort of sub plot.

It seemed like a cross between My Three Suns and the upcoming Godfellas. With an entire universe of plots, the writers can afford to be a little more experimental...

Overall, I'd say this is the first significantly sub-par Futurama episode of the new season.

I thought this week's was quite funny. It wasn't weighed down with a lot of emotional baggage, it was just funny. I think that this is one of the absolut best episodes of futurama I have seen, it's very well done in it's funny jokes and it's carfully researched egyptian look/enviroment story-line etc, it's good to get a break from the usual sci-fi future look and feel. The various egyptian creatures, (the birds-men priests and the anubis guards), are really cool, they give the story an real egyptian flavour (I hope they make action figures of the characters of this eppisode). The references to blindly following any give religion was funny, so was the line about them not staying at the funeral, also how bender tried to make himself pheraoh was a gas, the part about bender being wishy-washy about his statue and the preists response was halariously funny. I'd give this eppisode a 10 if I could!!

An above average episode...

The story seemed to flow well, and centered on the idea of being remembered after death. I liked the irony of having it be bender. Overall, I felt that Bender was REALLy annoying for the whole episode (which made the episode a bit less funny). There were some good jokes, but also a few duds...

This episode takes the crowm from 'That's Lobstertainment!' as the worst Futurama episode ever. After last week's not too bad episode, I had a hope that Futurama was returning to its old self, but this one really was terrible.

I smiled at a few things (the Professor getting the bouquet, Elton John, 'Bender Licks Ass', 'We're dumb!') but I didn't laugh once.

Scruffy's appearance was pointless, Morbo wasn't funny for once, Zoidberg's singing was dull and went on too long, and well, the whole of the plot from Osiris onwards was slow, predictable and utterly unfunny. It reminded me of the Eygpt bit of 'Simpsons Bible Stories' - and was just as bad.

It was nice to see the Australian again (pity he didn't get moe lines, like explaining hoe he escaped the spa), but his appearance just reminded me of the fantastic 'How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back', and made me realise how low this series has sunk.

I hope 'Godfellas' is as good as it's supposed to be.

After hearing how bad this episode was supposed to be, I was pleasantly surprised, sure it’s not one of the best but it’s still pretty decent. It was cool seeing the Robot Priest again, who isn’t used enough in my opinion, and the Australian Guy was a nice touch. This episode kinda reminded of “My Three Suns” and “Fear of A Bot Planet”, but dressed in Egyptian surroundings. Having said this, it was original enough to seem fresh and the visuals on the Egyptian planet were awesome.

Bender acted like a real jerk, but not so much so I hated him for it. Because He’s a robot I can accept his actions a little easier, although it would have been better had his obnoxious personality was toned down just a little bit. I liked the stuff at the beginning too, it was cool when he used his head as a spray can to graffiti a wall, the funeral scene was really cool too. The Professor catching the bouquet of flowers and the reasoning behind it was hilarious. I also thought his statue looked really cool, making a statue to remember him by was the obvious thing to do and it was a great touch, as was the casino within it.

What I didn’t like was the lack of Fry and Leela, not nearly enough screen time. I also felt that they kind of let Bender get away with it, they didn’t seem to want to stop him. Leela is normally the authority figure on deliveries; she really let her role as captain slip. There were a few other minor parts I didn’t like and too much of it focussed on Bender, not enough diversity within plot and there was a lack of sub plot. It was a little predictable, but on the whole it was a reasonable effort, many funny moments, but could have been executed a little better.

I'm a bit unsure about this one...it opened pretty well, and the appearence of an Elton John-style character was hilarious, but there wasn't too much else to it. I mean, the initial cruelty to slaves jokes were mostly good, marked by the return of the oppressed Austrailian last seen in 'How Hermes Requistioned His Groove Back' (though he really didn't do much; it would have been nice if he'd had a couple of lines).

What lets the episode down is mostly its climax (shades of 'My Three Suns', anyone?). The ending is rather bad, and the way in which Leela and Fry force Bender into co-operation not very slick or convincing at all. The very last few lines probably looked a lot better on paper.

But it wasn't that bad I suppose. I'm sure I could watch it again easily.

The funeral scene was really funny, especially Amy's "louder and sadder" eulogy. There's lots of good jokes scattered about the episode, like "BENDER LICKS BUTT", Bender giving the slave drivers tips, and Elton John getting pushed into the tomb.

Bad points - the plot's kind of thin, and their escape from the planet takes about five seconds.

All in all, a middle of the road episode, sort of three and a half points, but because it's Futurama I'll round it up to four.

Definitely one of the best futurama-episodes ever. Since Bender is my favourite character, it is great to have an episode which deals a lot with Bender's in-your-face-phrases and actions

(for instance, the whole scene "surprise-funeral", the several scenes "giving the slave-drivers pointers", the interruption of the ancient prophecy to bring a late breaking bulletin, the crowning, the whipping a.s.o.)

I agree with those, who think the ending is a bit weak, but compared to the other episodes, the good aspects of this episode make it one of the best.

Evil bender at his best. When will you people really understand? BENDER IS EVIL.

Doesn't want to be doesn't try to be. He can't even be held accountable without a consciense. If you could be as evil as you wanted without fear of eternal damnation, you would be Bender.

I also really like it, because it puts a dash of humanity into the robot. Bender really thought about dying, and it scared the crap out of him. Good for a hilarious low-Q ride through existentialism.

"Lead us o great wall of prophecy!"

"We're dumb."

I'm kind of sick of the "I want to be popular" or "I'm cool watch me" stuff. This kind of behavior found in such characters such as bender or homer simpsons leave a bad aftertaste after seeing it so many times. Also, sometime (or too many times), the characters of a serie tend to lose their personality. Like a puppet, they made them act every personality which exactly destroy the flavor. It's not there "the flavor is"...

Awful, awful, awful. I am begining to think that if we can expect more of this quality in later seasons (a la The Simpsons), perhaps it would be a blessing to let Futurama go after five(?) mostly excellent seasons. Perhaps I will now get concrete shoes.

This episode is probably the only one I've ever been bored in. Even when the show isn't dead on with it's humor, it's always at least interesting. This episode wasn't. Bender wasn't believeable, and the way Fry and Leela responded to their enslavement was weak. It's really a bad episode.

So many people hate this episode, but I thought it was great. I laughed all the way through. Bender's fake funeral was the best part. The constant whipping (like when Bender's giant statue was being built) was also very funny.

This reminded me of "My Three Suns" because it was set on a hot, dry planet and one of the crew became a leader. Fry had some good lines but Leela and Fry were hardly in this episode, which wasn't that bad. I liked having an all-Bender episode. A lot of people complained about his evilness but I don't think he was too evil or annoying. He was perfectly in character.

Anyway, this was a very funny episode and it deserves a better rating.

A pretty funny episode throughout. I thought it played nicely on the old Star Trek theme of "We land on a planet and it has some ancient culture!" very nicely. Zoidberg singing Danny Boy had me rolling on the floor with laughter. Bender's enthusiasm for being a slave, along with Fry picking out the drawbacks, were both very funny. A pretty decent episode if not a great one -- better than I thought it would be.

i just saw this one for the first time on CN last night. it was one of only three aired episodes that i've missed (the other two being 'the sting' and 'the route of all evil'). and having seen pretty much every episode, i can say with certainty that this is NOT the worst episode of the series, as it has been voted here. it wasn't great, and the whipping got somewhat tiresome, but it had a lot of funny moments and the storyline wasn't that bad. most people who complain about this episode say things like 'bender was out of character' or something like that. to those people i say, lighten up, take a step back and come to the realization that this is just a flippin' cartoon! the characters don't have to behave the same exact way every episode. this type of criticsm is annoying fan-boy nerdism. get a life and enjoy the show.

Oh my God, clearly a large percentage of you are all mad! How could you not find this episode funny? Ok so the story line is predictable, but it's supposed to be. It's just a frame to hang the jokes from. Bender as commander in chief of the whole world/ (universe as in "Godfellas") is inspirational to a athiest like my good self. It's a cheery parody of the human condition. Which is always nice.

I thought it was pretty funny actually. I'm actually a religious person, once planned on being a monk, but still the jokes on religion didn't phase me much. That and the way they said "Free us from thought and responsibility" was somehow funny. Kind of hard to get to upset about the mocking of a fictitious SF religion.

Bender enslaving Fry & Leela was maybe the only thing that struck me a little odd. I think I figured he'd free them or in least give them cushier jobs. However him talking tough is pretty standard "Let my reign of cruelty wash over this lazy land" fits him.

I'll give it a three though as I think I gave an ep I like better a 4.

Oh, come on! The "Oh Great Wall of Prophecy" speech is the funniest exchange in the series through this episode. Leela's line, "This society is a bunch of idiots," is so perfect...

I'll admit the plot wasn't the best, but it's redeemed by the jokes. Plus, it needs at least 60%

A very late review in an attempt to help boost the rating of this fine episode.

Very funny. Loved the plinks at faith without thought. Loved the effect of the Planet Express Ship dipping into and out of the planet's atmosphere at the end of the ep.

But primarily, I give this ep a 5 because I feel it is John DiMaggio's finest performance of the entire series. I don't mean the writing, though I like that as well. I mean John's reading. The inflections on everything he says are just nailed perfectly.

"Lou-der and sa-dder!"

"Hwhat!?!"

Absolutely wonderful.

I agree with everyone who said this episode had a weak plot. Benders desire to be remembered is not only heavy-handed but it has next to no reference to any other episode. In fact, wasnt it the first episode in which he was queuing up for the somewhat anonymous suicide booth? Whered this desire to be remembered spring from? At least Benders other characteristics (cook, folk singer, celebrity ass-kisser) were consistent.
Also, is it lamer to go to a planet that almost exactly resembles ancient Egypt or to go back in time to ancient Egypt? Either way, once they end up on Osiris, youd never think they were in the 31st century the way they get so easily enslaved just a few metres from their spaceship.

HOWEVER, I dont give a crap what any of you one-liner reviewers (whose reviews I sure as hell wont remember) are saying: this episode DID have its moments. Although he took a dive for the worse once he became pharaoh (despite his natty pharaoh attire), Bender did provide some great moments, like the Bender Licks Butt fold-in gag, and the funeral scene:

Bender was a truly special
LOU-DER AND SAD-DER!
BENDER WAS A TRULY SPE
NEXT!

Dear lord
OH, NEXT!

And even on Osiris 4, Bender had some funny moments, such as when he was pushing the block faster than the guy could whip him, and when he was whipping those business-like guys who were looking at the Pharoahs Ass diagram. There were also some good gags not involving Bender, such as the hilariously inaccurate Elton John character, Fry nailing himself to the accident board and Your words guide us/Were dumb.

So yes, maybe the plot is one of the weakest in Futurama history and, like the Bender statue, crashes and burns at the end, but to say its the worst episode ever when it featured plenty of good humour in it is preposterous.

There was some funny lines, but it just didn't make any sense the way Bender acted. They just made him uncharacteristcally evil. Probably one of Futurama's worst episodes by quite a large margin. The main plot wasn't interesting and for the entire episode's length, Bender was just one huge obnoxious brat. Even though that Bender has always been somehow inclined to abuse people for his own schemes and that's why he's a great character, it was just WAY overdone in this episode and ended up being totally annoying with the one-dimension personality he has shown here (and the way overused whipping jokes).

There are some good moments in there (such as the bit where Bender sprays his credits on a building but it gets destroyed, thus altering his message), but these were so few and far between and the episode was pretty uneventful and forgettable as a whole. It's most likely Futurama's biggest dissapointment in it's course.

Easily one of the most underrated episodes. I'm giving his a 5 instead of a 4 to try to offset some of the other insanely low ratings. Bender's fake funeral was great and the pharaoh and his pets song was funny, esp. when they push him down the hole.

I agree with 'jaydog'. I would rate this a 4, but I'm giving it a 5 to try to raise that 64% rating. Way lower than it should be, this episode is f'n funny.

One of my favourite episodes and its cool because there's loads of funniness, such as when amy said, "I know whos funeral we'll be attending next", and then proffesor says, "oh,stop!"

This episode was great, especially if you know the history behind it! (The ancient Egyptians did not use slaves to build the pyramids, all monuments in Egypt were built by free, paid workers.) When Bender is talking about who he remembers, the statue names are composite: "Anopsis" probably from "Ahmose" and "Thutmosis". "Cleotut" from "Cleopatra" and "Tutankhamun-heqayunushema Nebkheperura". "Whats'isname" can be whoever you want though I tend to think it's Pentaweret. (Who? Exactly!) The guards with dog heads are supposed to be Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of mummification. The high priest and his other bird headed priests are similar to Tehuty, the god of wisdom, writing, science, and knowledge. When they fist arrive on Osiris 4 and the guy has to sign for the stone block, his name is "Sanen". The bird for "sa" and each wave is "n". The name "Osiris 4" comes rrom the god Osiris, who in Egyptian mythology was a good king of Egypt. Osiris was murdered by his jealous brother Set. Osiris's wife, the goddess Isis went to hide in northern Egypt with her son Horus. When Horus grew up he defeated Set and became the pharaoh as was his right. Osiris became the king of "Ta ni swt" the aancient Egyptian equivalent of heaven. When Bender orders his statue to be 1 billion cubits in height, a cubit is about the length of your forearm. That's about all I could find, enjoy the episode!

I think this episode has some subtle jokes that aren't in-your-face, which is why most people don't like it, but this is one of the best episodes of Season 4 in my opinion.

I can see why this episode is so unpopular.

Bender was totally out of character. He acted like a complete idiot in this episode. This is not the Bender I know. Since when did he want to be remembered anyway? And why do Fry and Leela instantly forgive Bender at the end of the episode? It was Bender who was the villain in this episode, he shouldn't be a villain. Completely out of character!

The only reason this episode gets a 2 instead of a 1 is because of that bird-like man, saying 'the pharoa suddenly died' - that was quite funny.

This one almost stretches Bender's obsession with himself to breaking point; I thought he got a bit tiresome towards the end... I think Fry saves this episode, with his observations on slave-life and nailing his own hand to a sign. Also, Scruffy's line, "Wow, I've never seen him so sad. Or ever before", is one of my favourites in Futurama.

This was a pretty good episode. A lot of people are criticizing it, but I think they're overreacting. It wasn't the best episode ever, and the end was a bit slow, but the beginning and middle were awesome! I can't seem to figure out why people are criticizing it.
