Another great Bender-cenric episode. A biting satire on modern tv audiences and the network.

Thus I didn't like this episode. Plus I rarely laughed anyway.

My first 5 star rating of this season! A great irreverent episode that finally captured some of the attitude back that the first few seasons had. Also, great use of the Black Flag song TV Party.

It became really good in the second half. It got kind of weird and a bit surreal. "... Sitting down with your children.. And hitting them!!"

At the start it was kind of slow and really lame, but the episode saved itself when the Bender stuff started. I really liked both "TV Party", the real one and the cover. Billy West can really scream!!

This episode was given added relevancy with how the Fox network treated this show, this is one of the best satires of the broadcast biz I've ever see. I think even Fox could see when Futurama was knifing them in the back.

Not quite as good as this season's best bender ep., "Obsoletely Fabulous", but still really funny. I LOVED the network execubots...reminds me of another network...Cubert and Dwight weren't too bad, but since when do they hang out with tinny tim? Bender had some really great scenes (his spanish accent, his final speech, and all his All My Circuits scenes) and I laughed pretty hard at Zoidberg giving out his "business card". I can't believe Fox would want this to be the last episode though...this doesn't conclude anything!

This season started out to be the best yet. However, the last three episodes have just been aweful. Okay, there were two or three good jokes in this episode; but it lacked the subtle humor that makes bender based episodes great (hell, he's 40% dolemite for goodness sakes). I say, stick with the breakthrough writing of "jurrasic bark" and "the sting".

Well it was a lot better than last weeks for sure. This is a good example of where a lot of Bender is good. Zoidberg was funny with that business card.

The "All my circuits" thing from the beginning, with the amnesia and zoom-ins was hilarious! Overall I felt really good about this episode. Its back where Futurama should be.

Only one left guys....

The Best line reads this season,

Question though, if Bender and Calacon Met during the Episode that's Loberstaintment how come they don't remember each other?

I guess when the Season 5 DVD comes out the Audio Commentary will explain.

A lot of people are saying that Bender is too much of a Good thing and that's why the Show's being pulled.

Well Bender is the Best Character, and who doesn't want more of that loveable Scamp?

Fry acts too much like Bart and Homer, Leela Just gets under your Skin, Amy is wrong for the Show. The Professor acts like Grampa Simpson.....Well you get the idea.

If there is a spin off show it should be All Bender all the time.

A good episode, with some great parts. I think all the references to network TV execs were perfect considering this was the second to last episode. I hope that was all intentional. Those idiots running Fox, refusing to give this show a good time slot, not to mention no promotion deserve to be the butt of all jokes. Also the first where boxy robot was in bed with the calculons women was great!

:/ it kinda disapointed me. the second half sorta saved the episode a little bit, but overall, nope.. good thing this didn't turn out to be the last episode like fox wanted.. a good ending could have been fry changing the channel to fox, then saying "nope, nothing good on" and then turning tv off. comedy!!

Everybody Loves Hypno-Toad!
This was a good episode with lots of laughs, some decent satire, and good pacing. Unlike last week's episode, we didn't just get a lot of Bender, but a lot of the entire PE Crew. The only thing that I really didn't like was the vomiting, which was kinda gross and unneeded.

Some funny parts off the top of my head: The remixed opening with Farnsworth, Bender and Zoidberg..."Hey Bender." (four times)...everything involving the Hypno-Toad...the Cool-o-Meter segment (Zoidberg's cool level, the "OH YEAAAAH" and the 30 Mega-Fonz line)...the Fathers Against R (I forget) Television...the line "Bender should not be allowed on television!" Bender's final speech...the clip of Calculon after Bender's final speech...Fry's comment about the Hypno-Toad show declining after Season 3...and of course, "More reality shows!"

There were a couple dry spells here and there, but this is the best episode of Futurama in the past few weeks.

My actual rating for this is 4.5, but I'm rounding up to 5 since this episode deserves much more than 77% average (what it's currently on).

A solid ep. It was good to see some of the lesser-known characters like Dwight and the hypnotoad, as well as some of the orphans so close to the show's end. The funniest part for me was when the cool meter came to Zoidberg. I think I know why FOX wanted this to be the last episode...

I taped it, maybe I'll see it again when I feel better and like it more. However for right now, and I don't think I've ever said this with Futurama, it just seemed too much like one of the Simpsons eps. Granted an early one when they were still good, I think it was called "Marge versus Itchy & Scratchy" The problem is, in this case I actually liked the Simpsons take on the subject better. Further the stuff on TV execs has been done to death, resurrected and then done some more.

Still some of the stuff at the beginning with "All My Circuits" was cute. I like Tinny Tim and and Bender's end speech "Turning off the TV & hitting them." I must admit I expected the next seen would be Hermes wailing on his kid, but I guess you can't do that on TV. Oh Hermes "cigar" was cute in a way, as he's usually the uptight bureaucrat. Mostly though this one just fell kind of flat for me. Sorry all those present.

Hands down one of the greatest episodes ever.

The network executive bots were one of the best gags in the show, especially the one the _rolls the dice to decide the fall lineup_; Futurama striking back at FOX from beyond the grave. And Bender's final speech is funny, poignant, and, well, touching.

One more episode to go!

well, it certainly wasn't "so bad that it gave me cancer," but it wasn't great, either. it had some really funny parts - like when zoidberg said to the little girl, "here, let me give you my card" and it was just a torn piece of paper with 'zoidberg' scrawled on it - but the ending was a big let down, and the whole dwight and cubert part wasn't really funny. oh, well... they got a few nice jabs in at the bastards at FOX, so it was certainly worth watching.

This episode had a very good flow. It was a fast paced and funny in many different ways, from the loveable straight out of the gutter jive talkin' from Bender to more highly tuned satire. This episode had it all. It is very nicely placed as a pre-finale episode with of course some great pot-shots at FOX. A definite 5 star.

Thank goodness Fox didn't air it last as I don't think this story would have been a fitting finale. I just didn't find Bender's antics all that fresh or amusing and the near complete lack of Fry and Leela had me questioning if I was really watching Futurama or a spinoff. Still love the show, just not this particular story.

This episode was only a three until the Network exec bots showed up. The president of the network being an Apple Powerbook is one of the coolest thing I've seen on the show. The second half was a huge improvement over the first half so much that I can ignore it's weaker half. A 5, but a rather low 5, but too good to be a four. Better than the two previous Bender episodes, that's for sure. It was funny, but did it get us off our tractors? Yeah, probably.

I saw this one at this year's Futurama panel at Comic Con in San Diego. Unfortunately, the wonderful Fox network edited at least two minutes from this one. What remained was still genius, but there was more to it. This was an excellent episode anyhow. The auditions scenes were cut, as well as Cubert and co.'s Bender-imitations. Another year for the DVD I guess...

A Very high 3 or a very low 4.

Very funny, but didn't really go anywhere. I think FOX just likes Bender. Go figure. I liked the prominant parts given to the lesser characters with Fry and Leela in the background. I also enjoyed the quick evil look Fry gave Cubert and Dwight when they sat in-between him and Leela. Hypno toad was great, i loved the opening credits (Zoidburg rapping, that was genius) Calculon was good, the network execs were absolutely marvelous. Oh, what the hell, i'll give it a 5. It deserves higher than the recent dreck (Spanish Fry and Bend Her, and, to a lesser extend, Obsoletely Fabulous) Good work

Who at Fox really thought that scheduling three Bender episodes in a row was a good idea. And who thought this episode should be the last of this series? Of course, the shere irony of those questions helped to save it. But, oh, how much better this last run would have been if they kept to the schedule.
And, really, as a penultimate episode, it wasn't that bad. We got to see a lot of everyone. It was nice to have a little Hermes and Farnsworth before what I assume will be a Fry and Leela heavy episode. (Which, hopefully will bring together a lot of story lines and being a fitting conclusion). Great Zoidberg parts and good use of Tinny Tim. I just think if they even shuffled the last (bring up Parabox and Spanish Fry and interweve them between BendHer and Obsoletely).

Both dreading and looking forward to The Devil's Hands. Until then, this was a happy 4.

I loved it! It was a lot better than the last two episodes. And Cubert and Dwight weren't annoying this time! And Farnsworth and Hermes weren't as annoying being dads as they were in "The Route of All Evil"! And more Hypno Toad! Yay! Bender's speech was good, especially the hitting your kids part. Calculon was hilarious as always. I like the recent Calculon-saturated episodes (Bend Her, this). I'm really starting to like him. Too bad the show is almost over and we won't get to see more of him.

My favorite part: the robot that broke in the middle of filming a scene. I couldn't stop laughing at that!

Great episode; one of the best o this season. Bender was great, Farnsworth was great, (like everybody) I love the Hypnotoad, the kids were even good for the first time ever, it was good to see Lost Los Angeles again (for the last time), and this was definitely the best TV industry satire since... well, since a few months ago on South Park (I guess they're an even easier target than usual this year).

Bonus points to Fox for showing this anti-network episode when people might actually see it. After all, there has been a new Futurama every week for a month, and they've actually been advertising it a miniscule bit).

However, they lose all those bonus points and more by cutting off the brilliant "TV Party" cover in many markets (including owned-and-operated stations like LA's channel 11). I called all my friends and told them to make sure to listen through the end--and then I got a billion phone calls at 7:30 asking, "What was I waiting for?" If only it were legal to trade videotapes or .avi's or something so I could play the ending for my friends, but I understand that it's very important that the media conglomerates have total control over what they broadcast over the public airwaves that we lease to them for free.... I guess I can just tell them to wait until the season 5 DVD is available in America in 3003 or so.

This one was OK. Bender's always been my favorite, but I'll agree to the Bender-centric ones being overdone here at the end. And I found the plot just a bit heavy handed. That said, there was plenty of good stuff: The hypnotoad, The disclaimer, Fry saying "Hey Bender" four times without looking up, and Hermes: "That's not a cigar...and it's not mine." I'm relieved this wasn't saved for last. Bring on "Devil's Hands" and let's go out with a bang!

This episode started off good, but became truly great when the FARTers got to Hollywood. "This mob's with me." And when they all stop chanting because of the red light, that's brilliant. I love when Bender takes the gun, and the Professor says, "I was using that!" And most of all, the network execubots.

South Park taught us that to save a show, you have to photograph two executives sucking each other's jaglons. But Futurama gives us an easier solution--just load the dice. I'm guessing either 2 or 12 (the rarest rolls) mean "quality animated comedies are in."

By the way, this network is obviously not Fox, because it's run by a Powerbook rather than a monkey with a half-broken hat.

Anyway, is we can believe Morbo (and doesn't he seem like a trustworthy newsmonster?), next week's episode should end with the total destruction of the puny human race. And probably the monkeys and robots who run TV networks, too.

I love this show with a passion (I stopped the risk of missing Futurama by ceasing to go outon Sundays). However, I found this episode even more tedious than The Route of All Evil. Hm, this episode had its good moments and its bad moments. For one thing, I found those two brats, Cubert and Dwight, quite annoying, so I didn't care for their part. And their part happened to be a large part of the episode, which was a bad move. Also, if you ask me, Calculon doesn't work in large doses. I wasn't really impressed by the audition part, either. I didn't find it all that funny.
But all that aside, I love it how this episode was clearly written with the fans in mind. Namely, all the attacks on Fox and its mindless network execs. I liked it how the top exec was shown as a mindless, heartless computer, which, by the way, is exactly was Gail Berman is. Also the stuff with the attacks on reality shows and poor programming was great. The episode itself had its flaws plot-wise. But the social commentary on how evil the Fox network is surely greatly appreciated by all Futurama fans. But unfortunately, that was the only aspect of this episode that was any good.

I now get why the reaction of the fans at the LA Comicon were so positive! Futurama is in my opinion at its best when fully embrassing its "laying-dormant-throughout-the-series" rock 'n roll attitude. Again, thanx to all the cast of futurama for having participated in the only real current (sadly not for long anymore) avant-garde TV-show on fox.

PS: if any person reading this could send me an e-mail to remind me what Katey Seagal
is currently doing, that would be really cool as I can't remember what she is currently doing, as she doesn't appear on any dvd commentary yet, which means she obviously doesn't work in LA at the moment.

Great episode because it shows just how stupid parents and kids are. Bender did exactly what he always did but since it was on television it was considered wrong. Just like in todays life. Kids think they have to be like the people they see on TV. Parents blame telvision for their kids misbehavior while the kids parents swear, smoke, and drink beer in front their kids, but of course the parents cant be the reason why kids misbehave

What is with all the Cubert/Dwight haters? Sure they are annoying - that is their purpose in the series. Besides - they took up maybe 4-5 minutes of screen time, so it's not like this was the Cubert and Dwight Show.

Very funny overall, but I'm giving this one a 4 since I didn't laugh out loud as much as I have the last few episodes. To be fair, I didnt get to see this until pretty late last night just before I went to bed, so I may laugh more the second viewing today or tomorrow.

High points Hypno-Toad, Bender setting himself on fire (Kids dont try this at home), the Execubots ("Hey, hey hey!") Zoidberg's business card and the second act disclaimer "You are watching Futurama, who in no way endorses the cool crime of burglary.")

On a 10 scale, I would give it a high 8, low 9, but on the CGEF 5 scale, a 4 when I compare it to some of my recent favorites. Oh well, the shippers will have their day next week, so Im sure Devils Hands will get 5s across the board. Im sure Ill enjoy it as well, but Ive really enjoyed the last month of craziness.

Wow five Futuramas in a row. That in itself would be something to celebrate if I didnt know the screen goes dark right after Devils Hands ends.

Another enjoyable episode. Like many others, I definitely enjoyed the network execs, and have had my own mindset toward childcare radically altered by Bender's closing speech.
That said, I must say, to those who wish to bellyache over perceived 'flaws' in the show...i.e., the kids, excessive Bender-centricity, blah blah blah...
Come next year at this time, you'll be fervently wishing for such beautifully 'flawed' programming. Sadly, FOX's network execs don't use dice: at least then Futurama would gave had a statistical chance. Instead, they favor the opinions of samplings from the great unwashed, peppered with ingrates like yourselves, who are unworthy of such fine entertainment. Perhaps transportation might be arranged for you to the parallel dimension inhabited by the flying brains, who ALSO think they know everything. (I should warn you, though, rumor has it they've been airing large blocks of Teletubbies in prime time.)
Either that, or get Hermes to pass you that non-cigar that he doesn't own and CHILL.

A decent episode with some funny lines but not anywhere near the top of the list. Still, even an average episode of Futurama is better than "Everybody Loves Asshole" or whatever the heck is on TV nowadays.

Tinny Tim's "my good jerkwads" comments were a very funny commentary and how children repeat what they hear on TV. I'll be very sad to see the show gone...

Cubert/Dwight - UGHHHHH
Prof/Hermes - This whole being dads thing is really bad. If Dwight is ever in the show it should be no more than he was in "300 Big Ones" or whatever the name was.
Bender - Why not do a show that just exxagerates all of the character's funny attributes to the point where they are not funny anymore? (ahem, simpsons)

Yes this show had some funny bits and jokes, all listed in other reviews, but as far as the previous seasons go, this episode sucked. Along with alot of the other stuff from this season.

I just finished watching the Season 1 with DVD with commentary, and I can't express how awesome this series is. I'd like to think that the terrible problems with Season 5 are related to FOX.. or maybe new writers or something, I don't know.

I absolutely agree with Richard Nixons head #91. Its a ratings system yeah, but lamely attacking this cutting-edge wonderful, hilarious, subversive, imaginative, talented and advanced tv show only shows yourself to be lacking in soul. Its taken me a whole season of reading these garbage, destructive reviews that make me so annoyed. Rate it against other episodes, dont call it shit. I believe this episode even manages to exceed "Three Hundred Big Boys" in terms of dreadfully AWFUL writing and humour.

First problem is once again the whole Futurama premise is chucked aside. This easily could have been a (recent) Simpsons episode--just replace Bender with Homer acting all wacky and obnixous in a TV soap-opera. Replace the two kids and the stealing things to be popular with Bart and Milhouse. I want to see SCI-FI concepts explored, I want to see more of the world in the future, I want to see characters OTHER than Bender (just being a mindless jerk lately, like Homer in later seasons).

I think I chuckled once, at the professor's comment about "What the hell is going on in here?".

Basically I found myself watching the VCR counting down the minutes until this mess of an episode was over. I was not entertained at all.

These are the kind of episodes that make it seem like FOX did the right thing in cancelling Futurama (I wonder if they didn't purposely save these stinkers for the end).

I have high hopes for the final episode though, that we'll see something as moving as "The Sting".

While Futurama has been, undoubtably, a well written show with great gags that never cease to amaze, this episode did ceaes to amaze.

Maybe its a good thing they are leaving the show on a high note. the jokes were rather predictable in this episode. I cannot belive they started to run out of fresh ideas.

the whole situation with "All My Circuts" was ok, but the gags, once again, seemed rather predictable. Oh well, At least we have "Godfellas" "Amazon women in the Mood" "Brannaigan begin again" and. my personal favorite.... "Where no fan has gone before"!!

Fox Always Ruins Television

This episode had it all. Zoidberg's Chaplinesque appearance, the Network bots (now we know what happened!) and most of all TV Party. IF you haven't heard the original (or if you've been under a rock somehow) check it out. The Futurama version is so dead-on it's scary.

But like someone else said, it'd be great if Fox hadn't of preempted the ending with another promo and idiotic Banzai promo.

Can't see why they wanted it as a series finale, because doesn't really close up any plotlines...but I guess they just wanted another way to seem "cool". "We're being made fun of again, oh yeah..we're cool, we go with that. Here's The Simpsons: a show we should've canceled 5 years ago."

So series finale tommorrow-I really hope Cartoon Network keeps it going. Either way-Fox has to know they screwed up royally.

This episode could have been a lot better. The self-commentary (ie. the network president, FART etc.) and a lot of the bender humour was good, but the self-referential parts (characters mentioning Futurama - wtf?) were confusing, unfunny and destroy the continuity of the show. Self-references are IMHO a very bad idea. A pity that there had to be a Futurama episode with this in it.

Very dissappointing episode. Bender is obviously not a good role model but we already new that! There was practically no story development here, just a bunch of jokes put together in a totally forgettable episode. There are many, many outstanding episodes but not this one. A great futurama episode has good story development (involving the whole series), subplots which come together at the end (a la 300 big boys), and finally good satirical Science fiction! This episode had none of that.

Just like "That's lobstertainment" I think both of these episodes were so undistinguished that they could have easily been transposed to Simpson's episodes.

Thank goodness this is the exception!! Only these two episodes have given my that kind of reaction! Futurama rules!

ALL HAIL HYPNO TOAD!!!!

i thought this episode was embarassingly bad (the ONLY episode of the series i actually thought was "bad", although there were some mediocre ones), along the lines of the newer simpsons episodes.. i guess if the show really had a chance to decline, you'd see seasons full of episodes like this. i think the two kids are annoying, and that playing the black flag song was pandering and lame. well, nothing else to say..

Sweet. I think Zoidberg is kinda cool. It was funny when Tinny Tim said "Oh, crumb" after Cubert and Dwight confessed they stole all of Bender's stuff. By the way, what was that song called when the party was going on? I heard it in Uncle Buck.

either the best nor the worst episode of the season - "The Why of Fry" would have made a better series finale. But the concept was terribly sweet, the singing was really good (even if there have been better songs on the show), and the ending is open and very fitting - either it truly is a kiss and a walk into the sunset, or if (cross your fingers) Cartoon Network is able to produce more episodes, there's a) a new story line of Fry and Leela the couple or b) the same story line, wherein she gets cuddly for a moment but we're back to bemused disgust for the next episode.

Amazing episode!!! It was great as a series finale. All the characters were funny. I'm glad some minor characters were able to make cameos. I loved the Robot Devil in this episode. Too bad he wasn't in Futurama more, he's so funny! The twist where Leela has to marry Beezlebot was great and unexpected.
Some of my favorite things:
- The caption and billboard gags at the beginning were especially great.
- The singing at the end (I like musicals)!
- Zoidberg (singing): I can't believe everyone's just ad-libbing!
- the grumpy snail
- Bender: Bite my shiny metal... nooooo!
- all the parts with Beezlebot
- the running gag about irony
- Leela saying the robot hands are cold and Beezlebot shouting that it's hot in hell. Hehe.
- Mentioning Sean again and finding out more about him
- Seeing the construction worker from the pilot again (the one on that You Gotta Do What You Gotta Do poster)
- The Donkey Kong reference. Now the pilot AND the series finale have a Donkey Kong reference.
- Hermes ordering a Shirley Hemphill. He's been making a lot of marijuana jokes lately. I love it.
The ending was great. It was a fitting end to a great show and very sweet and touching. Fry finally won Leela's heart. About time. The last line and last holophoner piece were great and symbolic. "I want to hear how it ends."
Goodbye, Futurama. You had a great run.

Very sad, but most likely because we knew it was the last one. Thought it was very sneaky of the writers to never actually put Fry and Leela together... it didn't seem to have that much closure, but in a good way, because it left so much for our own imaginations, and leaves it wide open for movies or a [highly unlikely] return to television. Overall, a great episode, great way to end the series. [although i would still like to see leela & fry fall in love... i'm just sappy]
ps- Also choked up at the "see you on another channel" opener.

Well, I'll rectify that situation right now. All I can say is I laughed out loud, was entertained throughout, and got choked up at the end. Man, they really outdid themselves with this one; I think all the main characters got a decent play in this episode, lot's of good cameos, great jokes, some surprizingly good vocal performances, and a classy, sweet ending. Great plot twists (Leela going deaf, Bender loosing his ass)...too much to go into at this late hour. I just wanted to be a part of this final evaluation and help give Futurama the sendoff it deserves. Bravo...encore!! Too bad a certain network allowed this great show to end when it was just hiting it's highest mark. Goodbye Fry, Leela, Bender, Professor, Amy, Zoidberg, Hermes, Zapp, Kiff, Mom, Calculon, and all the rest...

Was anyone else at the 2003 San Diego Comic-Con? I distinctly rememeber the cast and producers claiming that FOX had refused to play this episode. They actually aired an unfinished version of it at that particular conference at Comic-Con.

Perhaps they were just trying to build up hype. Or maybe, they actually got enough people to complain about it.

Nonetheless, great episode.

Good social commentary, but it seemed too rehashed. And the kids are ALWAYS annoying, i hate when their included in an episode. "Viewers of the world, do smoking and drinking on TV really make me cool? Of course they do. [He blows some cigar smoke.] How 'bout committing crimes and ? Again, the answer is "yes." But do we really want our kids exposed to that kind of trash on TV? I say absolutely not! [He ally fires Farnsworth's laser and a laser bolt flies over Farnsworth's head, narrowly missing him. Bender clears his throat in embarrassment.] Uh...on the other hand, most - perhaps all the blame rests with the parents. That's right you! [He points his firearms at the FART mob and they gasp and duck.] And so I ask you this one question: Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?"

the coolest speach in tv history

This episode was superb. I laughed so hard. If Bender is not your favorite character, it may not be a special episode, but for me, its m favorite one.

Hampered by Cubert and Dwight - although this is the best episode with Cubert and Dwight as central characters. Without them this would have been the best episode, but as it is it's very funny and well constructed

Certainly not without its moments but for the most part, not too funny and the plot is extremely dull for a show that's usually set in space.

This is a hilarious and classic Bender episode, full of jokes about Bender stealing stuff and being a terrible role. The constant references to how Bender likes how he's a bad role model were hilarious, and its even funnier when that sentiment comes back to haunt him when he switches his view on things.

Best joke:

Leela: How could you put that filth on T.V.?
Network Head: Here at the network, we love filth. Filthy rich that is. BEING filthy rich that is.

5/5
