It was good, but I suppose I was expecting more for why Fry was frozen. Still, I liked seeing the Nibblonians and the Brains again, and the ending was just so sweet.

WOW! Best episode I have seen in a LONG time since Luck of the Fryish. Best season 5!! It was suprising to find out it was really Fry who put hisself in the future. What a great plot and storyline this had. It also had some really funny parts in it. Brilliantly written!!!

Wow. This episode was full of great storytelling. The writers must have been planning this one for a long time, and I love the way it ties in with so many other episodes. And the Nibblonians are just so cute!

The best part was the Fry/Leela relationship development at the end.

A great episode. The best of the season IMO. Ive heard this is supposed to be the Season finale, if so, than it couldnt have ended in a better way. Fixed plotholes, great jokes, and even a big Fry/Leela moment make this one of my favorite episodes. If I could give a 6/5 I would.

Beautiful. It made me laugh, it didn't make me cry, it was awesome. I loved those jokes,

"You mean they're trying to learn?"
"Correct."
"Those bastards!"

And we finally found out that Nibbler pushed Fry in the tube. Plus, Fry now has a Chance with Leela! Yay! This episode, Fry seemed surprisingly noble, giving himself for the universe. The side story woth Leela and that Chaz guy did not work, but it did intertwine with with the final scene at the end. A very solid episode, Clamps gives it 5 out of 5.

WOW!

Its a long time waiting for this episode, and we weren't dissapointed.
We found out what that second shadow was, and it was Fry! Very sweet, very well thought out, and very confusing. What happened to the Fry that went into the past to stop Fry from getting frozen? Hmmmm...

Nice to see the Nibblonians again, as they are so cute.

All in all, VERY happy to know all of the past history to bring us to why fry was exactly brought to the future!

Awesome.

Hard to believe that there was so much interweaving of different storylines, from Fry's past, Him being his own grandfather, the orphanarium, the nibblonians, vergon 6.... All I can say was wow.

Additionally, It was not too emotional, and had some great jokes in it.

Wow. A true milestone episode. If the series had ended on that note, I would have been content.

Getting to see Fry travel back to that fateful New Year's Eve 1999 and make the decision he made renders everything Mr. Glitz from The New York Post said about the show and its characters utterly worthless. If these aren't "warm, genuine characters" -- can you tell me which cartoon characters are?

I love to see continuity in a series like this -- it's something you'll rarely see in a show like The Simpsons, but the writers managed to put together a funny, entertaining and monumental episode using references from "Space Pilot 3000" and "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid", thereby giving the fans who have stood by the show through the years something to hold onto. I can only hope the final episode of the series ends on such a high note.

This is only the second episode I've written a review for, that means it was really good in my book. It certainly explains a lot, quite a coincidence since I recently saw "Space Pilot 3000" on dvd and on the commentary track, they pointed out the scene with the shadow of Nibler. Certainly one of the most interesting/funny episodes in awhile. Surprise ending too...I hope they developed that a little more in future episodes.

One of the most ambitious and emotional episodes ever. Granted, it wasn't perfect: I did't understand why Fry's doing the nasty with Grandma had to do with him lacking Delta waves until I thought about it, and I have some logistical objections to the Brain Spawn trying to gather knowledge (which would probably take an infinite amount of time), and moreover, why would they want to destroy the universe WHEN THEY LIVE IN THE UNIVERSE? However, the episode did have some delightfully warped moments, such as the feast of a thousand feasts and riding to his mission on a child's play-cart, Fry found out WHY he wound up in the future in the first place (save the universe, find love, all that good stuff) and had to choose between his past and future lives, and Leela realized just how much she loved Fry, despite his flaws. If only FOX would give the show a chance--then we could have many, many more great episodes like this!

Great episode! The start was funny and it remained interesting throughout.
Fry: "I can't work under these conditions, without me there is no mission, i am the mission."
Leela: "We're back from the mission"
Fry: "Wha, what? You went without me?"
Bender: "You were looking up cursewords in the dictionary, it seemed a better use of your time"

We kinda guessed most of what happened, but it was great to see it confirmed and all the bits between.
The bit inside the data-thingy where Fry talks with the Nibblonians about how it was his life they had taken away was so touching.

Nibbler: "We had no choice, you were the only one that could help us. What is one life weighed against the entire universe?"
Fry: "But it was my life" :sniff:

Definately one of the top episodes produced. And it advanced the plot between Fry and Leela so much at the end, but yet it didn't seem forced or sudden.

Loved it all, full marks!

This one make me feel compleat. This ties up alot of loose ends. But what I don't get, is that in Jurassic Bark, you can see Nibbler's eye coming out of the garbage can, but it wasn't in this one, even though you see Fry's shadow. Uh, well, any-who, this was a great episode.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, sure it had some nice revelations as to Fry's destiny, but where are the laughs, i only laughed once through the entire episode. The writer's seem to concentrate more on plot then on jokes, and while that is nice and all, i still would like to experience the humour that made me fall in love with the show in the first place. In the first few seasons the jokes came out of left-field but now i can see them coming a mile away and most of them are lame. Still love futurama, but if this is the way the show is going,i'll be glad to see it go before it gets really bad.

WOW! That was a good episode.
Now, On to WHY is was great.

1. We finally know the secret behind the Nibbler shadow in the episode that started it ALL, including the Nibbler Controversey (spelling), 1ACV01, Space Pilot 3000.

2. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! Fry and Leela's relationship grows, of course only us, the audience knowing.

3. WE ALL FINALLY GET OUT QUESTIONS ANSWERED.
And this is, hands down, one of the episodes I would give a 12. Of course, I qould give it a 7 in this case.

All that I had hoped for....and more! This was such a wicked tight episode. Perfect 5, nuff said.
by the way
let your brain chew on this for awhile.

If Fry didn't push himself into the freezing tube, he never would have gone to the future, if he never went to the future he never would have gone back in time, if he never would have gone back in time he wouldn't have fathered his father which would mean he never would have been born, if he was never born then he wouldn't exist at all!!!! It sure is a good thing he pushed himself in (for his sake and the universes;-)

This does leave plot holes! We already found out about Nibbler during the brain episode, but now we see a capeless Nibbler not push Fry in, but Fry himself!

Also Fry seemed rather selfish not wanting to save the universe because the Nibblonians ruined his "life", a life he has made clear that he didn't like and was glad to be in the future.

Pfft, good jokes and solid story. But boring and definetly not as good as some people think imo.

I was expecting so much from this episode that it flopped for me. I liked it for a Futurama episode, don't get me wrong, but so much hype was generated for, what, the past year that it was supposed to be on that it fell flat (Thanks Fox!).
I did like finally seeing the reason behind the Nibbler and Nibbler/Fry shadows in 1999, but thought it'd be a little deeper than it was.
Too bad FOX continues to bone this truly funny show.

Wow! This was a really cool episode! It put a different look on the whole series. I'd always thought Fry had put himself in the future by falling off his chair. But it was really Nibbler. I liked the episode very much. It tied a lot of things in. However, it was bittersweet. Since they are letting the cat out of the bag on a lot of secrets, it is only too obvious that there is no hope for the continuation of the series. I think that this would have been the perfect series ender. It leaves it very open-ended. We know why Fry came to the future and that in the end it was what he really wanted. He served a purpose in the future. And everyone lives happily ever after. What it also does is it leaves open the possibility for the series to continue at some other point. So I think it provides a sense of finality, but leaves the door open.

Amazing episode! I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic, but it's these episodes that I feel really are the brilliance of Futurama. No other cartoon can cause such emotion in the audiance. Hell, it gives most any other show a run for it's money. It's hillarious and timeless, and it's a shame that Futurama won't be around much longer for more of these gems to pop up.

Very good episode, but it suffered for a few reasons:

1) A few failed jokes.
2) The whole episode being about things many of us had already figured out.
3) Being too rushed. It really would've helped if it had been a two-parter.
4) Character inconsitancies.
5) Once again, it seems like the Futurama writers have difficulty with anger. When Fry was mad in the Infosphere, it reminded me alot of Leela's angry rant at the end of "Leela's Homeworld".

Anyway, still a solid episode (Needed more Zoidburg, though)

"The Other One" - Does this mean that Leela is in some way important to the whole scheme of things? Nibbler seemed pretty ademant about Fry and Leela hooking up. Maybe the Nibblonians will need help the help of a half mutant, half inbred child in the future. Perhaps there is more to Leela coming to the surface than we saw in "Leela's Homeworld".

This was a good episode. I was a little disappointed at first because I thought there would be more scenes in the past. The jokes were good, but there weren't enough of them. The Fry/Leela thing was okay but the ep would have been fine without it. It's amazing the way they had this all planned out from the first episode.

I didn't like the way Fry was so depressed at the beginning. Even when his life was awful in "Space Pilot 3000" he wasn't that depressed. And he kept complaining about how his life was changed. I know he didn't like being used, but wouldn't he get over it since he got to live in the future (which he said he liked)? Why would he even consider giving up his year 3002 life for his crummy 1999 life (even if things weren't going well recently)? And he didn't care about saving the entire universe, just saving Leela. That seems so selfish and out of character.

Like in "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid", memories were erased, and it felt like a cheap way to never metion an important series event again.

Overall, this was a good fairly funny episode. It's great that they were able to wrap up that Nibbler shadow plot line before the series ended.

Fantastic episode, with one disappointment. It appears that the Seymour story line began and ended with Jurassic Bark. Seymour could have been worked in to the future through this space-time nexus business. Of course, if that had happened AND Leela kissed Fry, the series could have (and should have) ended tonight.

A great episode, filling in a few of the how's and why's of previous eps.

Good episode, but I was expecting something a bit more... epic. This was such a highly-anticipated episode that promised some key revelations, that I expected a lot more from it than we got. We barely learned anything new (by now, it was fairly obvious that it was Fry and Nibbler who pushed him into the cryogenic tube), and the explanation of the brainspawn's goals was just plain lame. The beginning and ending were really good, though - really sets the plotline up for a nice, touching finale. I dunno, maybe I'm just upset because the series is ending which means there won't be many more chances for truly great episodes, but I feel that this episodes is not what it should have been.

For we shamelessly-nerdy uber-fans who have been rewinding "Space Pilot 3000" and "Jurassic Bark" over and over looking for new clues, this was just a filler in terms of Fry's history. Nothing we hadn't already guessed.

Frankly, Fry's ultimate escape could've been better; I imagined it was going to end with Fry voluntarily stepping into another cyrogenic tube after being given a "decide-now" choice by Nibbler--and being unfrozen in 3003 the day after he left. (That way, we could've seen Leela's former co-workers again:

"Welcome...to the fut--"
"Yeah yeah yeah, outta my way!! Leela!!"
"Hey, where's he going? He didn't let me do my line!"

...and right before Fry finds Leela--who is searching for him--he could've run into Nibbler, who then "blanks" him, depriving him of his "important role"--making the ending that much sweeter.)

Little complaints: No Professor and virtually no Amy; the current ending is one of those time-travel paradoxes; the "Death Star" takeoff was funnier the last two times it was done on the show.

BUT! I'm sure all shippies are as delighted as I am in the ending. Last week, a glance; this week, a kiss. Oh, if only "The Devil's Hands..." were running next week...

A fine episode in the tradition of The Luck of The Fryish and Jurassic Bark.

Its incredible how many stories in Futurama indeed hang together.... The Day The Earth Stood Stupid, Space Pilot 3000, Love's Labour Lost In Space, Jurassic Bark, Roswell That Ends Well..... Futurama is better planned than I have ever thought.

Leela's kiss surprised me a bit. This episode would make a good last episode for Futurama all together. This reminds me of how few episodes are left before the great curtain falls finally.

A good episode as it dealt with the overall story arc, but from a laugh-out-loud perspective, this episode was lacking, I think. The revelations were fun, I liked the Brains, and I LOVED Nibbler's speaking voice, but I didn't laugh all that much while watching it. The very beginning, with Fry talking about The Mission, and some of his briefing from the Nibblonians were about it. I guess with the show coming to an end that this kind of episode was inevitable, but next week (yay!) I hope for more laughs. Even other sentimental episodes like Luck Of The Fryish had more solid humor while still retaining their emotional stance. A good ep which could have been better.

Even I have to admit, though, the ending was very sweet and left me feeling good! You go Fry!

I agree with Zilo that this would have made a very appropriate final episode. (Although as a final ep, it would have been lacking in final appearances for Farnsworth and Hermes. And it def. needed more for Dr. Zoidberg, Amy and especially Bender!)

Still it was great to see how many episodes were tied together; that this was great evidence about how well-thought out this whole series was. (I can't stand when a show never gives a hoot for its master plan!)

Interesting, that the storywriters have planned this episode from the beginning of the show. In the first ep (Space pilot) you can see nibblers shadow for a second when Fry is falling into the freezer.

This was a really good episode. It was funny but not hilarious. It was more interesting to watch Leela start to figure out that Fry is a great guy. The best line was when Nibbler said that the Dave Mathews Band doesn't rock. I agree they SUCK!!!!

Frankly, I don't care much for the episodes with emotional endings- only the funny ones. Fortunately, this one was also funny. Especially the Brains.

However it also fell into repeating a bit too much. How many times have we seen that 1999 bit in various episodes? Like 5 times?

But it was nice to see one with a grounded plot compared to the last two, which were, well funny, very, very wacky.

I'm sure the last episode will be chalk full of sentiment. I'm not sure whether to look forward to it or fear it.

I thought the plot was too convoluted and contrived.

The endless string of jokes during the first act made this a very solid episode though. I just wish they could carry the humor through with the plot.

And Fry finally got his smooch! Good work, buddy!

I'm giving it a 4, but only because I'm trying to rate it strictly against other Futurama's, and a Futurama 4 is like a 14 for any other show.

Many good jokes, but more chuckles than belly laughs. I completely understand that the point of this episode was to advance the overall plot arc rather than unending big laughs, but to me, the jokes are a bit more important.

I think that this one will be a lot of fun to rewatch, because it is filled with subtle things. Like, Leela's single big contact lens (which was written pre-Monsters Inc.), or the fact Fry started to fall into the cryogenic tube by himself, but "future Fry" pulled the chair leg back while he was still arguing with 1999 Nibbler. I also loved the Scooty Puff Jr. ("Who's Ready For Some Safe Fun?"), the Feast of 1000 Beasts ("You going to eat that?" "Maybe later.") and, of all the questions Fry could ask the Big Brain, they first was the recipe for stamp glue.

Like others here, I think this would have made a perfect series finale and can't wait to see what they did in "Devil's Hands" for David to say in that interview that it was their "just in case the series ends" episode.

If we could use decimals, I would have given it a 4.8, but I have to reserve a 5 rating for the shows that I laugh out loud at. But - brilliant episode and definitely one of my top 10.

Enjoyable episode (especially the crack about those who don't use their brains much...with reference to 'people who watch cartoon shows!') but I think the hype as the show comes to an end may have been impossible to live up to as I don't think the team behind the show ever planned this as a show OR season finale...

As for Leela and Fry.....can't believe no one has mentioned the "Other One" comment...

What if it's a 'Return of the Jedi' thing and Leela and Fry are really related!

I found this episode to be a bit predictable.. after all, I always believed in the "Nibbler's shadow" theory, and that Fry would have to go back to that fateful night of December 31, 1999 attempting to change things. It also seemed too much like a rerun of "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid".

Still, this episode was significantly better than some of the other most recent ones. And I'm glad this "Nibbler's Shadow" mystery has finally been resolved for people who haven't been paying attention!

This may be our final episode of the series. Hopefully Fox will air us the rest of the season or at least some more episodes than 8. Well I still have a lot of catching up to do with ep. from the past seasons. I have the first Volume on DVD. It's been great! My personal thoughts about this ep. are that is was great. Though, I've never seen those brains before in Futurama. I'm so mad at myself for missing the first 8 minutes. I was so mad. Hopefully Fox will reun it, probably not. Overall, it was great. It ws great to see Nibbler. I have not seen him in a while. Oh yeah and the kiss at the end was great. Overall, it was a good season. I didn't get to see a few episodes because of the football games. My top ep. of the season would be Jurassic Bark, Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdlers, and this one. We can only hope that Fox will show us more episodes. More episodes. We demand more episodes! Long Live Futurama and it's creators.
P.S.-I hope Fry and Leela will hook up!

I liked this episode, but I would rather went on thinking Fry went into the future just because he was an idiot....... Although technically he did... But there was one error. In one of the "Tales of Intrest!", Fry asked what would happen if he didn't fall into the cryo-tube. If Nibbler had failed in freezing him, why didn't he just try again? Other than that, the episode was great.

good episode....I find it cool that this must have been planned from the first episode because when fry falls in and gets frozen, you can clearly see nibler's shadow on ground beside the chair. Great episode. Everything is starting to come together as the series is comming to an end. One thing I though would happen is that Fry would order the pizza for I.C.Weiner cos in Space Pilot 3000 he says "by this point in my life I always thought I'd be the one making crank calls". That would have been nicely ironic.
We in the UK are getting Season 3 in June so we may get Season 4 by Xmas and so see the final7 eps before Fox show them!

It was good but not great.
A fine "Back to the Future" episode but not an amazing one. Compared to other episodes that explored Fry's past, it doesn't have the emotion of "Luck of the Fryish" or "Jurassic Bark" and it doesn't have the humor of "Roswell that ends well"... The story feels a bit forced, it tries to be as cool as the episodes I just cited but doesn't really manage to be. Also, it relied too much on the episode "The Day the earth stood stupid" and as a result offered very few surprising moments... It was still pretty damn good but I just feel it could have been much better!

This was a great episode, the best of the season in my opinion. It was very funny without needing to use much Bender or Zoidberg, had a big-time Leela/Fry moment and even though the #2 plot wasn't great, it didn't get in the way of things. WOW! This is such an awesome fantastic episode; I was speechless after seeing it the first time. I think the funniest moment is when Fry and one of the brains have this conversation:

Brain: You could stop the Nibblonian from pushing you into the cryogenic tube
Fry: That IS interesting Why?

The way he says it is class! The Nibblonians were really funny too. And that townie joke was class, although I didnt like how it was directed at Fry. The whole episode flowed so brilliantly, and after watching it some more Ive realised what a wonderful score it has too. Its so great to finally know why Fry is there, and how it all actually happened. I just love how in Futurama you can have such plot heavy episodes which are brilliantly told and so engrossing. I think this is probably the most engrossing Futurama so far. Wonderful plot with twists and depth, and plenty of those How is Fry gonna get out of this? moments. Combine that with great humour, some emotion, and a sweet romantic ending and you get an almost perfect episode. I also really liked the animation, especially of the infosphere. I found that it reminded me a little too much of the Death Star in A Clone of my Own though, but still, awesome. Im just so thankful that Fox ever actually showed this wonderful episode :)

While I never liked the giant brains much (I don't know... they're kinda ugly), I think that the line "Our calculations are always correct, for we are giant brains" was right up there with "I'm the greetest!" :)

I hate to give two low ratings in a row, but I'm not that big on the big episodes like this. It was good, up to the point where they threw away all the comedy, for a plot-oriented episode. I loved that episode, although I was hoping that Fry would see Seymour again when he went back...

I thought it was hillarious that Nibbler, when luring Fry to the cryogenics lab, made it a prank call "I, dot, C, dot, Wiener." It shows that Nibbler is not only a cute voracious character but has a sense of humor. A also loved how they made the Nibblonians like little pets ("Purrr... Purrr... STOP THAT!" and the mouse toy)

Loved how they went back using Nibbler and the Brains, plus clarifying why fry is immune to the brains because he is own grandfather.

Also it is Amazing writing with the little touches, because with the flash back of frys dog (Jurassic Bark) you can see nibblers eye in the trashcan. Then when fry drops the horn you can see both fry and nibblers shadows.
But even more Amazing is looking back at the first episode when fry gets frozen, nibblers shadow is still on the ground. To think they put that in 64 episodes earlier is amazing.
Excellent Writing, Great Episode

Futurama rocks. It was just amazing to find how everything was plotted from the beginning and after about 60 episodes finally explained. One thought: when many of the 4th production episodes were created, the staff and the writers were aware that Fox might have cancelled the show sooner or later (in fact it happened), so I think they decided to explain as much as possible in this season (revealing who were Leela's parents, "the why of Fry", developing the relationship between Amy and Kif) and so on, bringing everything to an ending. Furhtermore, Futurama producers declared that the final episode (4ACV18) is really intended to set an ending in case of cancellation. So I'm asking: if Fox didn't cancel Futurama, perhaps they would have developed the main plot and all subplots in a different (longer) way. It's sad thinking of it. Instead of accepting Leela as a mutant we would continue assuming (like herself) she's an alien and watched some more episode were she searches them in the space. The role of brain spawns and the niblonians could be resolved in a more complicated and intriguing way than putting everything in one single episode (for good it was). Amy could continue dating other guys before starting definitely a serious relationship with Kif. In a word, Fox decision to kill Futurama produced this side-effect to "shrink" the plot. Thus, even if it comes back to life, many things will be already revealed. Of course I'm still hoping for Futurama resurrection because the plot possibilities of this show are infinite like the stars :-)

This was a great episode, because it sums up the whole reason why Fry was frozen. But Fry asked "But why MY life?", and that is a very good question. What's the matter with you people? If the only reason you liked this ep was becaused Leela kissed Fry then go watch Dawsons Creek, etc. I will grant you that it did explain a lot but is that funny? Does it make you laugh? I watch this show for benders retorts and farnsworth and frys absent minded humor. Farnsworth was not in this ep at all!! No good news everyone. This was merely and adequate airing that tied up loose ends, but once the ends are all tied then the shows over. I can't face that!

nice solid episode, fry trying to eat the pineapple on the cord was funny... as were some of the one liners.

Leelas infatuation with chaz was funny but chaz was a lame-o who thought he was somebody

great episode but im writting to tell you to watch the 1st episode of fututurama and get to the point about a second before Fry falls off his chair you can see a shadow of Nibler under the chair fry is sitting on. keep looking for it if you listen to the dvd comentry it will also show you when the shadow of Nibler appears.
any way I gave this episode a five because all the episode are solid gold.

Definitely one of the worse episodes of the series. Granted, I strongly disliked the first episode that involved the Nibblonians, so I'm unlikely to enjoy a sequel. There were a few good moments in it, particularly Leela's realization about Fry at the very end of the episode, and the Mayor's Assistant was great! (I've known people just like that)

BTW, wouldn't Fry have destroyed the universe had he stopped himself from getting frozen, ALA Anthology of Interest I? :)

What this episode needed was Al Gore's Vice-Presidential Action Rangers.

Cheers,

leave whether it makes sense or not, how many times has that actually mattered in the great goof episodes - of which there are too many to mention! One For The Fans, a bit of confirmation and maybe the Fry - Leela kiss is a 'thank you'... if ur a casual viewer then you can be forgiven for finding it boring/nonsensical but i think most fans would immediately show this episode a little dignity and understand that it's not laughs (tho the fry hologram mission plan thing did make me laugh out loud)... the reason i feel like thrilled and disappointed reminds me of seeing final episode of twin peaks.... where there was also some uncertainty as to whether it'd be the last show... y'know, its great they thought this all out, but so sad that there ain't hundreds of other eps waiting in line. if there was like a bar where only futurama nerds went, some days would be quiet and restrained but after this ep, ppl will be talking for aaaages.
bender was a bit weak. there you go, that's my obligatory minor gripe.

Season 4 of Futurama continues to raise the bar higher and higher.
Whilst The Simpsons happily sits in its rut of gag after gag and "lets have Homer meet a celebrity!" trend, Futurama boldly goes where no other sitcom will (or can) go!
The Why of Fry proves once and for all that Futurama has a far grander ambition than simply making you laugh at a couple of clever sight gags and movie parodies (The Simpsons manages that all by itself). This episode comes as close to pure genius as any TV show has or ever will! David X Cohen's passion for the show, and vast general knowledge (clearly evident on the DVD comentaries) have allowed him to write a perfect episode of the most wildly original, mind-blowingly clever (yet most neglected, DAMM YOU FOX!)programme of the 20th/21st Century!

The only plot hole I have noticed is the issue of Nibblers age. In this episode he claims to be 1000+ years old. But in the first episode of season 2 (I Second That Emotion), the rings in Nibblers teeth apparently show he is only 5! Maybe the vet was wrong and the rings have nothing to do with his age, or maybe the writers simply forgot about this throw away gag!
Anyway who cares, The Why of Fry is brilliant! *****, 10/10, 100%...

I read through every reveiw to see if someone mentions the nibbler age thing, and there it was third LAST. but nibbler does have the ability to alter minds so maybe Fry was seeing hundereds apon hundreds of rings until nibbler altered the minds of every one. a) making that joke funnier b) adding another layer to the wonderful story.

as for this episode good humour great plot

It felt kind of sad somehow. I was thinking it was going to be be a 2 parter with all that story packed in. Even Benders orphans made it in there (one of my fav eps.) How could fry think of wanting to stay in this lousy time what about Bender!!! Nibbler did cheer up fry, but he still was more concerend for the universe, so why be Leelas pet? What's the story with her, hmm?!

Have only seen it once, but WoF seemingly didn't account for the Nibblonian in the trash can (lookout for Nibbler?) nor my pet point of curiosity -- how his dog got encased in dolomite in 20xx. This is the best episode I have ever seen. It really shows what a good show futurama is, and how much planning has gone into the episodes from the word go. In the first episode when Fry falls into the tube, you can see nibblers shadow. IN Anthology of Intrest 1 when fry dosen't fall in the tube, nibblers not there. In jurrasic bark, you can see Nibbler and Frys shadow. O.K so I didn't talk about the actual episode too much, but I THink that all the other stuff was worth a mention

Did you mention that when Fry throws Fry to the freezing chamber, there are 2 shadows on the floor (fry and nibbler's).
In episode 1 (Pilot) there is only that one, that of nibbler. So either this is a mistake OR because the second time Fry didn't go to the parallel universe, it is like never happened and nimbler is alone (so only 1 shadow).

The Good Parts:
Leela now likes Fry instead of Chaz (who was sorta like Adelai).
Fry saved the universe and is the most important person.

I'm surprised how much I liked the episode despite the huge hype. However, Chaz x Leela was awful. It was useful in the plot, but I didn't just hate that guy, I hated the scenes with him. That said, it's not my favorite, but every scene with Fry is excellent, which is enough to redeem it. I agree with the comments that this makes a good series finale. This is the last episode I'll ever watch for the first time, and it tied up so many more things than "The Devil's Hands..." On the other hand, it's heart-wrenching to realize they were setting up a more important role for Leela (Nibbler referred to "the other one" or something along those lines) which was never realized because Fox is evil.

Whenever I see the words 'written by David X Cohen' I know it will be a good episode. Some of you said you were let down a little because of the hype surrounding the episode. I never used to read up much about Futurama on the internet, so when this episode was on (had to wait ages for new episodes - damn Australian tv) I was pleasantly surprised.
Dont tell me this episode wasnt funny either, Cohen is always funny.
"failure to scoop, oh yeah..."
And another thing, lol at people who are impressed by Fry and Leela kissing... I watch Futurama for cool sci fi, not so much for the icky romance stuff.
I like this one. 5

This is a brilliant episode. We hear Fry being his own grandfarther for the 2nd time.We also discover that Nibblonians can erase parts of memories with their thrid eye.

But there is a confusing scene. In the memory bank{which knows everything} shows Nibbler blowing Fry of 1999 into the cryonic tube. But when Fry of 3003/4 comes back in time,he blew his former self in the cryonic tube.Which is similar to the Roswell That Ends Well paradox{see my guide on S04E01}.I think this episode worked to get 5/5 because of explaining the secrets.Oh,and print this out then put it in a capsule for Nibbler.

From John.
P.S:Where did you get the idea of dark matter as spaceship fuel and Nibbler excreting it?

This was a really good episode. Not the funniest one, but very entertaining.
But they introduced another mystery: when Fry mentions Leela to Nibbler, Nibbler says "she must be the other!" and says that Fry needs to not give up on her. Too bad Futurama ended, or maybe we would have found out what that was reffering to (however, I think it may have meant that their future child would be important, and in that case then we probably wouldn't have ever actually seen that).

Amazing episode. Has great climactic moments to perhaps the most brilliantly written plot arc ever done in a cartoon. With TONS of callbacks and references to past episodes, it pulls lots of things together, and will be especially appreciated by fans who have seen all the episodes before it. It really shows the great amount of thought and planning that DXC and Matt Groening put into this show from the very beginning.

You won't find this kind of quality and depth in any other cartoon, period.

I loved this episode. It answered a lot of questions and a gave meaning to Fry's existance. It also explained why Nibbler was in past episodes such as 'Jurassic Bark' and 'Space Pilot: 3000', even if it was confusing to see him in two diferent scences (i.e. the eyeball in the bin, and the shadow, so which one is it??) The epidsode was a good one, but did you hear what nibbler said to Fry after Nibbler erased fry's memory of the event? It's an excellent episode, but theres a huge plot hole in there. When Fry is under the cryogenics desk and he wavers and vanishes, where does he go? Is he the 'real' Fry, or is the one we see on the Scooty Puff SR the real one, while the old Fry is stuck in the alternate dimension infosphere for the rest of his life?

My question is this:

When Nibbler prompts Fry, asking him if there is nothing worth saving in the future, Fry says that Leela would be worth saving. Nibbler responds saying, "she must be the other one". I know that the creators of the show planned way ahead with plot lines (ex. Showing Nibbler's shaddow in the first episode), but does anyone know what he might have meant by this, and where the future plot lines might have led to for this? Email me with Futurama in the subject if you have a serious answer. Thanks

In my opinion one of the best episodes of the series. Really brings things together well. Someone said it should have been the finale, but I think it should have been the episode before the finale. The current finale is a good ending, and this would have segued into it quite nicely. Also, the guy before said something about a plot hole. It actually isn't a hole, more of something not explained. If they are going by one philosophy of time travel that is common in Science Fiction, he would disappear, be something of an off-shoot of the natural timeline. The real timeline would continue as usual. Then, of course, there is the paradox of if he disappears, and the timeline continues, he never existed and therefore there should be no Scooty Puff Sr. and Fry should continue in a timeloop, getting trapped again. There are always paradoxes like that when dealing with time travel, which is why the creators said they didn't really want to deal with it a lot, and only did a couple of times. (Actually this paradox can be somewhat explained since they say there are alternate universes)

This was one of the best episodes ever. If you look closely, you can see the same shadow of Nibbler and "future" Fry blowing Fry into the time capsule that was also in the 1st episode aired. This shows how amazingly organized and developed this show really is. The creators knew the whole story from the first show and did not air it until the fifth season!

This was a really interesting episode. It was interesting to see why Fry really got frozen. I've heard people say that in the original footage of Space Pilot 3000, Nibbler's shadow was in the background. Well, I CAN'T FIND IT! Anyone who can, please drop me a line. I did see Nibbler's eye sticking out of a trash can in Jurassic Bark, however. Anyway, back to the episode. I love all the poorly written 1 reviews which are basically saying, "WARE R DA LAFFS!?!" Speaks volumes about what they see as good television.

Anyways, I thought this was a great episode as excepted, since it was written by the show's creator. My only disappointment is that it had to be made so soon. For those of you who don't know, they rushed this episode out in the last season since they knew they were getting cancelled. We may never know what other episodes they had in store. Maybe someday they'll explain what Nibbler meant by "The Other." (I doubt it).

A fantastic episode because it has a great plot, a good subplot and an important message.

Fry is feeling depressed. He thinks there is no one who thinks he is important. However, that changes when Nibbler reveals why Fry was the single most important person in the universe: He is the only person who can stop the dreaded brain spawn due to his lack of intelligence, making him immune. And shockingly, when Fry encounters the know-it-all Big Brain, before everything is about to be set in stone, the Big Brain shows that Fry getting cryogenically frozen back in 2000 was NOT an accident. Instead, he was frozen by... Nibbler. Yep. Surprised?

The Nibblonians are very clever creatures - hell, it they could travel back 1000 years, maybe they could even try to stop the dinosaurs from becoming extinct? Anyway, Fry is now left with a very difficult choice to make - does he want to save himself, be with his family, but also continue to live the same boring job of being a Pizza Delivery boy, or save the universe and start fresh - a new life, new job, new people. However, Fry chooses the smarter thing - he wants to protect Leela and the rest of his friends from the Brain Spawn because he knew the rest of the crew would have to fight them should he never have. This is one of the most emotional climaxes in the series, right next to The Luck of the Fryrish and it's a fantastic message of how it's better to stick to something you already have been more used to.

The subplot is also good. Despite Chaz's attitude of him being that only loyal to the mayor and nothing else, he is selfish, doesn't care about anyone else except not failing the mayor and Leela. However, of course, he fails to realize that Leela is also an orphan, much like the rest of the kids from the orphanarium, so of course Leela had every right to dump him in anger. And now, in the end, the kiss at the end between Fry & Leela is what we've all been waiting for: They are now finally a couple. It's easily one of the most important endings and a climax to an already built-up relationship.

But the primary message this episode shares is: Do not ever think you're not important to anyone. There is someone out there who will always hold you highly in regard.

This is one of the best episodes of all-time.

10/10
