Review on [4ACV12] - The Sting.

First, I have to say, that episode was one of the best episodes ever. I really enjoyed watching it.
The episode made in a way, that you will never guess, how it will end. The shocking effect worked great. Although I guessed that Fry is alive, I didn?t guess what really happened.
The romantic part was fantastic. It was wonderful, how Fry tried to protect Leela from the bee. Their dates in dreams was so romantic although it wasn?t in real life. Scene in the end when he said ?Wake up, Leela, please... just wake up ...Just wake up!..please? made my cry. Fry was acting like a real man.
The quality of ideas and video effects is very high. I like the part when Leela opens the coffin and sees other dimension.
I love this episode.

really different episode to all the others. it kept you guessing as to what was real and what was a dream.

it was all about leelas feelings for fry, not the other way round which was a nice change. and a nice romantic ending.

awesome episode. there were a few funny lines but i didnt think the comedy was what made it a great episode. after a dodgy start the new series is really taking shape now.

The most horrible episode i have ever seen. For the first time in my life i regret having seen a futurama-episode. Instead of comedy this was some kind of psychedelic Dallas-inspired drama. Yuck!!

I don't know how Margarita got her reveiw in when the episode didn't start but anyway....
Amazing. I loved the humor in this episode. It was fantastic. The honeycomb reference, Bender's waffle line, everything was superb. I loved all of the characters he's influenced being at the funeral, especially the women he slept with. Hilarious. Best line the episode. Touch to everyone at the writing and animation team. Everything was perfect. Zoidberg line, "I should warn you, I'm a mean drunk!". Ha ha ha. Also a great musical number too. And now, to the sentimental part. Wow. I'm speechless. The idea and execution was flawless. The constant guessing of what is a dream and what is real, perfectly created. I loved this episode. I loved it. Clamps gives it 5 ou of 5.

I on the other hand love these episodes. It won't be as good the second time, but it was a good episode. It had me laughing the whole time and there was a good backstory to it as well.

I knew to much about it before hand though. Next week I will make sure not to spoil it for myself.

It was good, I guess I liked it better because it was the first new episode in what...a month or so?
Good love story, I never knew what was real, and I guess It all didn't matter seeing as it was all a dream till the last 2minuets

This is easily my favorite Futurama episode. The writers let us delve deep into Leela's mind and kept us guessing what was a dream and what was reality, providing a very nice twist at the end.
This was all hillarious, of course. Great lines all throughout to keep us laughing, while at the same time play out the well-written emotional drama. ONLY the Futurama team can make a funeral scene that hillarious, while at the same time touching and emotional.
ONLY the Futurama team can make an episode like this.

The coolest episode this season. The humor wasn't quite as good as it has been in the past few episodes, but the drama elements were excellent. I really liked the bee-hive and the coffin/2001 homage. I also liked the various cameos, like guenter and "the radiator woman from the radiator planet" :)

After the first viewing, I think this episode will become classic. Very impressive effort on many levels. The quality of animation and use of CGI was excellent. I also appreciate the way it was used to tell the story instead of say "look what I can do with my big computer".
Next, the romantic story told from Leela's point of view instead of the typical Fry's attempts to woo was excellent. A real breath of fresh air, and it was told well instead of just trying to work with the novelty of it.
This is another of the 'Bender doing another language' eps. Very well done this time. It clearly brought back memories of reading about the 'bee waggle' (that's the scientific term) when in grade school science class. Also the finding of the black box from the previous crew was hilarious. Oh, and yet another excellent musical number. I have seen Bobby in person a few times and have loved every show. So, it's always nice to hear a tribute to his work.
This kind of episode makes one mad all over again that the series was not allowed to mature and grow over a longer run. It had the audience, but never the network management. Just goes to show that it's all in the attitude. Instead of treating Futurama as 'the next generation of quality in prime time animation and a true sucessor to the Simpsons' it was despised as an attack to the bread and butter of FOX. Too bad they passed up on an opportunity to create a whole new traditon/generation from a series that is, quite frankly, tired and ready to be retired.
Anways, regarding "The Sting", bravo! Very well done. I haven't been really blown away by any eps yet this season, so it's really nice to see the series leave me with a bang instead of a whimper.

What a great episode... leaves you guessing until the end. It wasn't as funny as some other episodes I'll admit, as they focused more on the romantic/dramatic side, but they still managed to make whatever humor was in the episode work without being crude or offensive (With the death theme and all). And the ending of course was brilliant. Not giving away anything, but... wow. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

Easily my favourite Futurama episode.

I liked the episode. Tons of references to earlier episodes, including the box of Fry's stuff and all of his snu-snu women.

I liked how the stuff given to Leela in her coma/dream was actually stuff in her room in the hospital, such as the picture on the wall and the squeeze toy.

Well written, good one liners. Heavy on the romance, but didn't feel extremely forced. I probably caught on to what was happening the first time Leela woke up from the dream inside a dream, since several movies have had similar stories.

This was easily one of the best episodes of the show ever. Belly laughs the whole way through. I could not believe how hysterical I was during the DOnt Worry Be Happy bit... when that happy little bee stung Farnsworth in the head, I was gone. Classic. Excellent script also... Great episode. Had a few dull moments here and there, but overall one of the best of McSeason 5.
I loved the idea of Leela going slowly going insane, and Fry's voice reaching through to her subconsciousness. The ending actually surprised me a bit, and some developments in the show threw me off. Great writing there, mr Verrone! I looked at the timer with about 4 minutes to go, and wondered how they would go about finishing it in time. I had a feeling it would involve Leela dreaming part of it, but not the whole thing.

The "Don't Worry, Bee Happy" song was one of the funniest so far in Futurama.

My favorite moment was when Leela took the ship to get Fry's corpse. Sitting in the pilot seat, twitching and tripping her feet nervously, while saying: "I'll find Fry's coffin, get his corpse and keep it under my mattres to remind he's really dead. That'll proof I'm not insane." I nearly choked with laughter.

Lots of great jokes and moments, while not being a s shippy as I had feared. I liked how Nibbler was violently thrown around when Leela woke up.

Great episode. Good job, mr Verrone. 5/5

Wow, confusing episode or what? The beginning was good, has enough jokes. Loved seeing Scruffy on the bagpipes, but what happened to Space Wasps? Ah well.
The middle was weirdly confusing, i loved the "Bee Happy" song, totally out-of-place, which is probably why it worked so well. The dream-sequences were done well, i loved the:

Oh Fry you must be alive, i've never been treated so romantically by my own imagination before

And then when she wakes up, throwing Nibbler off the bed, loved that gag.
The ending was great, the bit with Fry as the picture and Leela. Leela turning to Fry in her most desperate moments and when she wakes up, so emotional, truly great work.

Full marks, ranking nice and highly.

The beginning of the episode was maybe a bit less than the rest of it, I mean, the first jokes were pretty predictable... The funeral scene was a really strange experience to me. So many 'old friends' from previous episodes. The water-beings, the Omicronians, and even those wannabe-pizzeria-aliens, but where the **** were Zapp and Kiff on that funeral?? You'd expect to at least have Amy and Kiff together too... That was a bit strange, but hey... The guillotine-joke really had me ROFLing, the 2001: A Space Oddysee-reference in Fry's cascet too.

The whole dream Leela had during het coma, it just showed her her true feelings for Fry. Maybe this is one of those "god works in mysterious ways"-things for Leela? It was again one of those very emotional episodes that I appreciate so much. I'm actually a bit scared that one of the next episodes would seem disapointing because it doesn't have the same level of emotions, of storyline in it.

Futurama is really an experience, and I will really miss it when it will be "walking on sunshine".

It has earned every of my 5 points! Great work gang!

This episode was pretty funny. I was suprised that the stinger actually went through Fry and struck Leela instead. I was cracking up during the musical number and the tape recording with the agonizing screams of Professor Farnsworth's last crew. It was also funny when Bender was playing virtual reality golf. And unlike most shows with twist-endings, I actually understood the entire episode. Leela's dreams with Fry were also pretty sweet. Overall, this was a really funny episode. Five out of five.

What a great episode. I loved all the 'shippy' parts, and I had no idea how the episode was going to end, even though the writer threw in hints throughout. My favorite part was the amazon woman with "snu-snu" and all the other characters in the background going "meh". I was dying when I saw the radiator on the side. The part when Leela was going to find Fry's corpse was also hilarious.

Great episode,

Weird and funny. Although it was obvious that Fry wasn't dead forever,(I think that everybody knows that principal characters can't die), there was a good number of red herrings to let you take a guess at what was really happening. It didn't seem too contrived (Intoxication + Guilt) and the end was still somewhat of a surprise.

In most sitcoms and comedies(that I watch) sentimental moments make me puke, but usually it's beacause it's cliched and just cheap. But Futurama never let me down. They always know when it adds depth and meaning and when it's just cheese. This one is no exception.

Surreal and with a good number of references and one liners (Bedsores really hurt!). Great episode.

I thought it was great. Good job, writer guy. You have finally proven your worth to internet nerds like me.

When I first heard the description of this episode, I was excited, because we never get any straight-forward "PE crew goes on a mission" episodes anymore. Having seen it before i can say i did enjoy it more each time. The first time i was it i was confused ofcourse until the end which is the way it was suppose to be.

I really liked how they focused on Leela in this episode instead of on fry as usual, well apart from the funeral scene, and it did show how deeply they cared for eachother.

Remember back when I said that Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles was the most bizzarre 30 minutes of television I've ever seen? Yeah, this blew it away. Bizzarre, but fantastic. The 2001 reference - GREAT. Scruffy - YAY. Morgan - SEXXY WOOHOO. "I made myself sad" - done before, but still good.

Great episode, from the plot on down to the animation. Another classic episode from this season, I really don't know how some of you act like all of these episodes aren't very good.

I like these thoughtful, character defining episodes. It adds so much life to Leela, Fry, etc. Another great one, following the Why of Fry.

Oh, joy. I get to recap THIS as my first episode for Diet Coke of Snark. (Would have been the pilot, but like an idiot, when I e-mailed the recap, I included everything but the actual, you know, recap.) So now I have to make some kind of sense out of, well, this.

First ever time I wasn't laughing through large quantities of the episode (I even include that godawful Titanic episode in this statement), the reason being the humor was just too weird for me to make sense of. I think the joke wound up being on me. "Hey, this isn't an episode, it's just one big hallucination! ...Oh, wait, it actually IS. ...oh."

Like most here, I give it high marks, even if it's because we haven't seen one for so long (nearly 2 months!)

The Fry-Leela relationship is blossoming nicely. Didn't see the ending coming until Fry kept saying, "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!" I was in a semi comatose state once. Reality and fantasy kind of blur into a mish-mash, an amalgam of the two.

The humor was excellent. The CGI was beautiful. And the heart and sensitivity of this series just keeps shining through.

And for all this....it's leaving! 8-(

This one had huge potential, but was crippled awfully by the writing and the constent references. I mean, there were TWO references to Honeycombs commertials! The 2001 is overdone too... most of the jokes were so esoterical they were imbarassing. That being said, the romance for the most part worked, which is odd as that's usually the part that seems forced. Overall, it was a good episode, and it could have been great had the jokes worked or not been in there in the first place.

This episode made me feel disappointment and glee at the same time. I thought the episode was a tripped out piece of comedy poking fun at the Sci-Fi Classic 2001:A Space Odyssey. Plain and simple FOX does not deserve this show; it's far too high a caliber for such a network. I can only hope that the ratings for this are high enough to convince another network that this show is something worth keeping alive.

In closing, the writing was sharp as always and was delivered with its usual razor wit. Futurama is as good now as it ever was if not better.

It was great! The dreams, the hints, and the continuity with the old crew were all good. I guessed near the end of the ep (right before Leela really woke up) that she was in some sort of coma.

In the last episode Fry said he had brain in his butt and in this one he said he has honey in his underwear. Is this gonna become some sort of running gag?

Terrific episode, the best of the season (so far)!

Yet another impressive episode. One thing that always floors me about Futurama is how adept the writers and directors are at the use of sound; it's extremely unusual in American animation, but of course, Futurama is extremely unusual. I first became aware of this with the Harlem Globetrotters' theme song at the end of "Time Keeps On Slippin'," and it's held true for all of the later "serious" episodes. But this time, it wasn't music that made me choke up--it was the voice acting. When I heard Fry's voice at the end of the episode begging Leela to wake up, I nearly choked up; Bender's few heartfelt (well, processor-felt?) laments were surprisingly touching as well. This episode proves that it's not the idea that makes something great--it's the execution. Here's an episode whose bones are made from cliches, and it's still the most beautiful thing on TV today. Fox isn't good enough for this show.

Patric Verrone has done it again! He has yet again written an episode that the fans will treasure forever, like "A Fishful of Dollars" and "The (My) Problem with Popplers." This is truly an episode dedicated to the fans. I'm surprised no one has caught this yet:
In one of the commentaries, Verrone makes a point that the word "underpants" is considerably funnier than "underwear." Thus, Fry says, "I've got jelly in my underpants."
The plot kept you guessing to the end. Was Fry dead, or was the whole series all in Fry's dream (Probably not a good suspicion, but I saw how it could pan out.)? I suppose the line that captured my attention into the episode was, "Collect honey, just ordinary honey...This is no ordinary honey!"
The animation! Oh, so perfect. The background of the honeycomb, the flowers in space (a la the houses in "The Route of All Evil" ), and, for the first time, I actually paused the tape and stared gaping at the animation after Bender was flying around on the stinger inside the Planet Express ship. We have been vindicated! (Re: 28 frames per second thread) The blurriness was just amazing! Motion blur extreme! (I think it's almost as good as the title sequence.)

The episode had cheap jokes that came in there. But the story was overall funny, and it made it as one of the better episodes for comedic storyline. I mean, Leela going crazy over Fry? It's what Fry-lovers have wanted forever. Leela loves Fry; we know it now - or do we? Was it just guilt that Leela was feeling over killing Fry? So the episode leaves questions unanswered - another mark of a good episode. As Fry said, "Clever things make people feel stupid and unexpected things make them feel scared!" Well, I can say that feeling scared for the fate of Fry kept people in the game for the duration of this episode.
This was an episode for the fans. There were so many throwbacks, including one that I don't think has been caught: the coffin was from "Fear of a Bot Planet" I believe. The Orbiting Meadows graveyard was from "Luck of the Fry(r)ish."

Nothing was wrong with this episode, nothing was bad. I loved it. I watched this three times already. This is my perfect episode of Futurama. Yes, better than TWOF, which said a hell of a lot less than I expected. We knew Nibbler was there when Fry went in, we knew he lacked the Delta wave - we put it together without the episode. And, it wasn't that terribly funny. It was plot development, pure and simple. "The Sting" helped the plot and was an excellently-written episode; one of the funniest ever.

10/10. A+.

We'll miss you Patric. Come write some fanfics (though they wouldn't really be fanfics...) for us sometime!

I love the priest that was a hybrid of every religion at Fry's funeral. The touching stuff with Fry and Leela was great. And most of all the call back to the first episode when the crew gets their career chips. "Contents from Space Wasp's Stomach".

Simply an amazing episode. This worked perfectly, the mixture of humor and emotion was just perfect. I think this episode had the combination of depth and rolling-on-my-sides humor to prove that the show has a sophistication and pure entertainment value that cannot be matched. FOX is evil to not realize it. I just wish that it wasn't the end soon.

The episode was just a mindtrip for me, I honestly didn't know what to expect at the end. The episode had me so involved I just didn't think that much ahead. The 2001 effects in Fry's coffin were awesome. And just the way he'd say "Wake up" gave me faint chills.

I couldn't stop laughing during the "Don't Worry, Bee Happy" scene. The little bee was just insanely funny and adorable, and it was so surreal that I just fell over.

I now believe that Futurama is far more flexible than the Simpsons could ever be. Something about the development has lead to the amazing ability to laugh and just FEEL the emotional depth at the same time. It's beyond description how well the show is working right now, I can't believe they're cutting it off when it's reaching a new level. Augh.

I want some space honey. Maybe with three spoonfuls, I could sleep forever and be in a dream of Futurama.

Another great episode that ties into TWOF, and lets us see Leela's feelings for Fry. I loved the way that Leela said at the end, "It got through" to Fry. I think that she has figured out that she loves him, and if they don't get together at the end of the series, then I hope they follow it up somehow, and have them get together, Doggone it!

Anyone who thinks that these "emotional" episodes suck should crawl back to their Family Guy DVDs for some soulless, pointless humor they seem to enjoy. Face it, this show's changed and its characters drive the show much more than the jokes do and that's a really great thing. This one falls somewhere in between Why of Fry and Jurassic Bark for me.

Hee hee hee--just like "Jurassic Bark," the episode so many assumed was going to suck eggs turned out to be a masterpiece. A wonderful combination of romantic drama and gags, chock full of cameos and hilarious non-sequitors, and even a song--even if it was a parody instead of an original. Favorite bits: Bender on fire--for no reason!--and the final dialogue. This 'ship is smooth sailing.

Simply the best episode to date, even surpassing "Parasites Lost". Great blend of comedy and drama, something almost impossible to do in a cartoon. This episode demonstrates what I have believed for some time now: Futurama is both able and willing to achieve a level of sophistication both in terms of plot, humor and character development that the Simpons abandoned long ago (and most of television wouldn't even hint at).

Consider Leela's character arc since the series' inception, to say nothing of Fry's. Both have learned slowly to overcome their own insecurities and find a mutual love based on genuine affection.

The fact that Leela is an impressive individual in terms of physical ability and conviction hasn't prevented her from feeling like a nobody. Fry similarly feels like a loser even though he's done amazingly brave things, including saving the planet from giant brains.

Now here they are, finally finding solace in one another ... and I wouldn't feel like such a geek for writing all this if I didn't think it was actually high drama disguised as an effective sci-fi spoof.

Brilliant. There was plenty of humor peppered throughout, but it never left the core heart of what was being shown; Leela's mind, being isolated from everyone she cared about in real life, could only realize how much she missed Fry, so she only saw that HE was gone. But in her dream world, he was the only one she could connect with, and she even wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. The only thing that would have made this ep more perfect is if she had taken all this as the proof that she loved him as well, which it was. But maybe she did. Infinitely clever and honest, this was definitely one of the strongest episodes of the season, maybe of the series.

I have to say. I enjoyed it. It was a good episode. It was one of those episodes that made you keep on guessing on whether it was a dream or real. This was one of the worst episodes ever. The only episode worse than this was "Roswell That Ends Well," which ended up winning an Emmy. The humor was seriously lacking, only being moderately funny, and as a drama episode it was only somewhat moving, far from the greatness of "The Luck of the Fryrish" and "Jurassic Bark."

The setup was lame and, although the part with the bees could have been done using suspense and genuine horror effects, it was not. The rest of the episode was similarly pretty lamenothing notably interesting happened.

However, the ending to the episode was so ingeniously clever. Never has there been a last-minute twist so huge. Even the episode "Awakening" of the TV show "Angel" wasn't this surprising. While I realized that there would be a big twist at the end, I didn't know what it was until it was shown. A standing ovation to whoever thought of it!

At first I really did not like this episode. I mean, a honey comb in space? And then Fry dies, and Leela has the odd dreams, with odd things happening in real life. It was like an acid trip. I thought that they were going to end it with Fry coming back to life because of the Jelly. I am glad that did not happen, and that it was all a coma, which should have been expected, but wasn't. It was great when you realize it was all a coma, and that everything she heard in her "dreams" were what Fry was saying to her. Also the "please wake up" now makes more sense.

I'm not gonna write a really long review, coz ppl are only reading the first ones anyway. But I liked this episode after watching it the second time. The first time watching kinda broke my illusion of Futurama being some form of institution. I sincerely thought that they would let Fry die, so I was sad of course. Then, when Fry appeared from the royal honey/jelly I thought that it was what the writers had thought of as fry - but that wouldn't be real. So at that point I was still sad. All the fuzz and stuff also made me realize that the life of Futurama is just as fragile as the life of any other. I grant this episode 5/5 coz it was good and coz it's a real long time since last we saw an episode.

At first I was feeling like this episode was just a little too wierd. I actually started feeling depressed that Fry was gone. The ending and how it was all tied together made it one of the most heart warming and thoughtful 1/2 hours on television in years. I know this episode wasn't as "funny" as others, but this one had HEART. Not many shows can put you through as many emotions that The Sting did. As the rest of you believe, this just further demonstrates that Futurama will go down as one the best written shows ever. Long live the DVDs and Got Futurama.

This ws a good episode. A real good episode. 3 times I've watched it and it's still great!

The flower from the last new episode, a "kings of Trisol" spoon, a slurm can, some oil?... oh, yeah...

I think we'll see some great stuff as we come near the end, I only hope half of them are this good.

Futurama has always done characters great, but sadly this episode makes us realize we've never looked at Leela so closely! Orphanerium, wanting to be normal, wanting her parents... all aspects of her, but todays was the epitome of Leela; we see what makes her tick, her flaws, and her *gasp* feelings. We, of course, have Fry tell her he loves her... again... and no response this time. VERY nice...

I truly liked this episode. Many references to previous eps, noticed Seymour near Fry's coffin ?. I knew he would return. hehe.
Great smart jokes, which underlines what constitutes the very essence of the show, such as the reference to Kubrick's film, that was hilarious.
And the drama here was so touching. You really feel compeled to these characters as if they were true humans.
And I agree with what some of you have formerly pointed out, so I think I don't have anything more to say... Oh, yes ;D => Shame on Fox!!!!!!

I think this episode will get the Emmy. It tries to do everything (silly, touching, bizzarre, self-ref, pop culture ref, ...), and always succeeds. More filling (and visually engaging) than most movies. Most reviewers are dropping a point because it's not perfect, that's just silly. This episode requires several viewings and sticks with you for a while. I think it's quite an accomplishment.

This is now my favorite episode.
And yes, it does deserve an Emmy.

*ahem* Shame on you people who gave it
a 3 or below!. Futurama isn't all about
comedy, it has many layers to it. Just
because it focused more on Leela's feeling
and romance instead of comedy does not
make it a bad episode. Far from it..this episode
was a testament to how much Futurama has evolved
in it's multiple seasons.

18/64?! Come on people, let's get this episode into the top 5!!

I only wish I had taped this episode. And I hope that seasons 2 through 5 come out on DVD faster here.
Shame on you Fox, I used to like your network, but you seem to like reality series more.

Long Live Futurama!!!

This was a very emotional episode. I greatly enjoyed seeing a Leela centered episode, and Leela reveiling her feelings about Fry. Although it was a sad, emotional, even phycodelic at times, it maintained humor through-out. The one-liners cracked me up. My roommate and I watched it again later and freeze framed the furnaral scene and the scene featuring Leela's "memories of Fry" box. Great refrence to other episodes. I wish I could say I was surprised by the ending, but I called that way ahead of time. Futurama has made me cry before, (Jurrasic Bark, The Why of Fry) at it did again with this episode. I find it remarkable to be moved by my emotional attachment to these animated ficional characters. Dispite the fantastic setting it's easy to beleive that these characters are real, that they exsist somewhere...

Brilliant episode. I didn't guess the ending, but as it got closer it did become a bit more obvious (which was probably the whole point). The twist ending adds whole new layers of significance to what happened throughout the episode - lines spoken by Fry throughout the ep having double meaning both inside Leela's dream and back in reality as he tries to get her to wake up ("I don't care if you can't hear me, I'm going to start talking and I'm never going to stop! Blah blah blah blah blah blah...").

Lots of hilarious moments too. I think this one might be my favorite.

While this certainly wasn't one of the best, or strongest episodes, it overall wasn't too bad. The jokes in the first scene with the beehive were pretty lame, but once Fry "dies," things get better. It is nice to see the writers remeber past episodes, like in the pilot when it is mentioned (on a bag) that the previous Planet Express crew died from a giant space wasp, and there are lots of familiar faces at Fry's funeral. As for the plot, it's always fun to watch characters go insane, and the twist ending was a little predictable, but still funny. I also have to mention the "Don't Worry, Bee Happy" song, which was very entertaining. In all, this episode wasn't bad, but not real good either.

I guess after making the last few episodes they realizend they had run out of any interesting comedy and decided to make to this, well, predictable and pointless spinoff of what was once the best cartoon comedy series on the t. Now I'm in doubt; which episode was less funny, this one or 'jurassic bark'.

Excellent!
The call backs like the emperior spoon, and all the girls Fry slept with really made this show for me.

I'm getting the impression that these final episodes all seem to be rewarding the loyal fans as many of the jokes feel "inside". Who else but a fan would know the origin of Snu Snu and the Amazon woman.

Thanks to the writers for keeping us in mind.
excellent.

I love the episodes with deeper emotion. When getting in depth with these characters you love'em that much more, because there's more to them than just laughs. Leela and Fry are my favorites. Hopefully in the coming episodes the inevitable happens - they find each other. Call me sappy!, but I'd love to see a real happy ending for those two - they deserve it.

The ending was a little predictable and overall not very great in terms of writing. If you watch Simpsons DVD with the commentary on in Dancin' Homer, (where Homer becomes the baseball mascot), the writers comment that the second most cliche'd plot devices is the wrap-around-ending (also seen in The TellTale Head) which is nice runner up to the "then he woke up ending."-aplot device found mostly in elementary English creative writing English assignments.

Even the Honeycomb big, yea yea yea joke seemed a bit tired.

Personally, I think a lot of people are rating this ep high just because it's the only new episode that's show up in awhile.
I'm a complete fan of the dramatic episodes, Parasite's Lost being one of my favorites, so this episdoe is missing more than just the techy refernces.

I've been a huge fan of the show since the very beginning, and think "The Sting" is among the best episodes ever. Its definiately a personal favorite.

There's so much going on in 22 minutes, so many random scenes and character appearances that I wonder if the writer knew it might be his last. The plot is great, a deep episode.. many twists and clever ideas are mixed in. While not as constantly funny as other episodes, it has a lot of esoteric referemces, inside jokes and subtle humor.

CGI, animation and other visuals are absolutely first rate. Such a shame that we won't see the continuing development. I really liked the bee swarm in the last dream sequence, and all many other trippy effects - watch this episode at 4:20 for best results!

Like all of the best Futurama episodes, this one mixed touching emotional moments with razor-sharp humor in a perfect balance. Despite how easy the creative team behind Futurama make this look, it is incredibley difficult to pull this balancing act off, and they do it consistently, and perhaps never better than in this episode. I loved the Space Bee's response- "Duh." when Bender clumsily tried to engage them in Bee conversation, and the Honeycomb jingle reference had me laughing out loud. All in all, a fantastic, thoroughly enjoyable episode.

I think Fry will get her by the end of the series. Don't you think?

I mean, come on. With all those romantic things he came up with lately and with a little help of Nibbler of course. Leela has got to be the "Lilith" of Fututrama (that means a cold-hearted Bi***, for those who don't know "Frasier") when she doesn't give in at the end.

I personally would like to see them get together...

Wow. Incredible.

Had the same kind of plot device as the Star Trek TNG episode where Riker is trapped in an alien insane asylum. (I think it was "Schisms.") But that episode pissed me off. I think "The Sting" used the device far more successfully.

It felt like it was an hour long, rather than only half-an-hour. (In a good way.) Much like "Roswell That Ends Well. There was just so much cool stuff going on, and so many great references. This felt like a "reward" episode for loyal viewers.

Emotionally, it was at the top. Perhaps just a half-tick below "Luck of the Fryrish," but above everything else. ("Leela's Homeworld" and "Time Keeps on Slippin'" felt a bit contrived, and "Jurassic Bark" was too damned depressing.)

Funniest gag: the radiator "woman," no question. :) Had me on the floor.

I also loved seeing the previous Planet Express Ship, and hearing the previous crew.

The only flaw was the Professor knowing about the guillotine and France. (As we know, French is an incomprehensible dead language.)

A top-notch episode, with a great ending.

This is an episode that shows once again why Futurama is the best animated show at these days:
The animations keep a high level without getting too much in the foreground. And the people making it have the courage to tell unusual stories, which mix romantic and funny parts. Kind of: "Where no cartoon writer has gone before..."
Above someone says: "principal characters cant die"... I wouldnt be too surprised if the Futurama guys would even break this "cartoon law" in the future.
Though it is a great episode, I nearly only gave it a 4 because of the middle part (especially the song part... but beginning and end deserve a 5 rating, and therefore it gets it ;)
My favourite joke came at the end: "u could really use a shower" "u too!"
That kept me laughing 3 more minutes after the ep was over :)

Shame on FOX! Get Futurama going again!

Absolutely awesome ep, kept me guessing right till the end. It began great, and the whole bee hive thing was rad. Some of the shots and angles they used were just as sweet as the honey itself. The animation throughout this episode was absolute class, plenty of eye candy.

The story was so unique, but in a really cool way. Nice twists, some action, some humour, and lots of romance too. It was cool to see the whole P.E crew used. This ep really shows what advantages animation can have. I also thought the score was fantastic, it really helped convey the emotion, and maybe even the best score of any ep so far. I loved the whole thing. It does kinda set the impression of finality, but it's really deep, and felt a lot longer than it was.

Great episode. Great plot great animation, the escape from the bee-hive was the coolest shit i ever saw!.

The one-line:rs wheren't too good i have to admit besides from Bender talking as a bee and the Proffesor with what killed his other crew.

Contents of space wasps stomach.

The ones who did'nt enjoy this one only watches Futurama for the one-liners and the looting robot, Bender. The lootings just a bonus.

This episode was a blast.
For exemple the " Dont worry be happy version" . That was hilarious, especially Zoidbergs part: "Aint got no money, got no style, the ladies vomit when i smile."
That was futurama at its best.

One of the best episodes of Futurama I ever have seen!

There were countless referances to old episode that long time fans loved. This episode was an fantastic tribute to the series.

Prof and Bender had great lines as always, only thing which could of made it better would be a Zordberg line, some of his are classic.

Finally the ending was superb on all levels, Fry's actor (b.West) really did a great job of showing that Fry cares, the cry at the end was moving.

The plot twist was that on the level of Luck of the fryish and Leela's homeworld, another classic.

I'd highly reccomend this episode to everyone, everywhere.

This is as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned. This episode had it all laughs and tears. You couldn't feel sad because two seconds later you were laughing. It's very difficult to find that right mix between humour and drama but this episode really pulls it off and thats what makes it special. Also kudos the the music, its especially difficult to compose something so evocative and beautiful when you're only granted, what, 10 seconds to pull it off? If Futurama gets better than this, then, jeezo. You know?

One of the all time great episodes. Important to the overall development of the series (Leela finally sees that Fry really loves her), and incredibly well plotted. Re watch the show and see how well they kept everything consistant between Leela's coma world and the real world. Plus, to see Bender sing despite the court order, what more can you ask for.

This episode was excellent. It's original, trippy, dramatic, romantic, funny, and exciting! The bee hive sequence and chase presented the best CGI used in Futurama to date, I'm amazed the animation qualtiy is so high, it really does make everything else on TV look naff! Futurama is becoming very sophisticated, not only does it continue to spoof sci-fi and pop-culture, it's now developing a truely unique science fiction style all of its own!
Not only was the story and drama great, The Sting is also very very funny. The split second when you saw the radiator (watch The Lesser of Two Evils)next to the rest of Frys ex lovers made me nearly laugh my guts out! (not literally)
I can't praise this episode enough, top notch stuff!
And yes the former crew were killed by space WASPS. But if the writers had stuck with that plot point, The Sting would have seen the crew collecting space paper, and that just wouldn't work for the story.

I LOVE this episode. It was subdued and more emotional than usual focusing on light humor, but it was outstanding, right up there with luck of the fryish. I was really surprised at the quality of this episode. A lot of the episodes recently have been nowhere near as good as the ones in the first few seasons, but this was fantastic. Good humour, great plot twist, and I loved seeing the Fry/Leela relationship through Leela's eyes for a change.

This wasn't one of the all time greats (in my opinion, the episode didn't really get going until Fry got stung), but I can safely say it's my favourite episode since 'Luck of the Fryrish', all that time ago. More like this, please! I sincerely hope that the final episode can live up to this one's standards.

Damn, I KNEW I should have taped this episode so I could watch it again - I've obviously missed some things!

I loved the 2001 stuff, made me smirk in that geeky kind of way that's beginning to worry me. Bender as a bee was hilarious - I was on a train to edinburgh yesterday with the driver's announcements buzzing just like Bender in this episode - bet the other passengers were wondering why I found it so funny!

The bee song was soooo funny in that terribly cruel kind of way - how freaky was the sting to Farnsworth's head? Ew... And Fry being stung through was gross, although, (as I'm sure one of you other observant nerds has already mentioned), he has been able to put his hand through his body before, even if only online.

And another "Awwwwwww" ending, which I (sad to say) always quite like.

I'm sorry, I love Futurama in the only way a person can love a TV show, but this was one of the most disturbing and downright annoying episodes ever produced. It seems the closer we get to the death of Futurama the more the writers feel the need to sodomize our thirst for comedic value in the show. I would think that with little episodes left they would try and produce some quality humor instead of some trippy attempt to bring Fry and Leela together just a little bit closer. I hope they do better soon, I want my last memories of Futurama to be good ones. Good thing they're releasing that X-box game AFTER the series goes under? Why not just give it away for free....Fox really doesn't know what they're doing. If they think King of the Hill is worth keeping as opposed to Futurama, they don't know what's funny. I don't think i've ever laughed at that show. Ok, I'm done ranting.

When I first saw this episode it just struck me as strange and too tragic. However it stuck with me.

It still seems a bit too intense for a comedy, why I considered ranking it a 4, but on a second viewing I like it a good deal better. Although I liked "Obsoletely Fabulous" the dream ending works much better here. Indeed I'd say the ending is surprisingly sweet and moving. I think this is what I've been missing from "The Simpsons" the last few years. That element of sweetness and sincere emotion. Or maybe I'm just sappy:)

Very good. The waking-up ending isn't a bad thing; it doesn't matter how much a plot device is used, only how well it's used, and the writing in this episode was masterful. The comedy was not as frequent as it has been in other episodes, but it is a LOT harder to write a script that's both funny and tragic than one that's just funny, and Pat did a superb job of it here. Farnsworth in particular had some fantastic dialogue.

Easily a five.

Easily the best episode of the series. Superb character development and you get the feeling that Frye and Leela will have a future together. Wow...After "The Why of Fry," I didn't think the show could hit a much higher note, but this might be the best of them all.

I think some people miss what has happened with Futurama. The Simpsons, while a great and funny show, is completely contained in a vacuum. Everything is always exactly the same. Every episode starts from exactly the same point, the characters never change or learn anything from what they've done. It makes it very easy to write and be funny becuase everything is always the same: Homer is always retardedly stupid, Lisa is always too smart and preachy for her own good, Barney is always drunk, Ned is always happy and in love with Jeebus, etc.

With Futurama, the show aspired to be more than a one-note comedy. Characters are dynamic: they grow and change over the course of the show. Their actions derrive from real personality and character, rather than a quirk or two that keeps getting repeated ad-naseum.

It's been said before, this show was killed in it's prime by FOX. I wish there was some way to get more episodes done, but sadly that will never happen. Thank sweet Zombie Jesus that the DVDs will keep things alive for years to come.

One of the best episodes. I was watching it with some THC, and it really was an experience. It also made me so sad I almost cried. And the romantic stuff was handled really well (then again, I hold all Futuramas in high regard). And the whole waking but still dreaming part, I could really relate to it (had similar dreams, well not so romantic, after I stoped with hallucinoges. But it was really scary stuff).
Anywasy, really superb execution.

This was my favorite Futurama ep. after the final. The funural had some great parts sates as the professor saying that he was now the oldest member of his family, that really make me laugh. I also like to see how Fry kept telling Leela to wake up, even when she was "awake" and to see him crying for her at the hospital. That seen almost make me cry.
Truly a great episode.

To reiterate what I wrote in PEEL:

Absolutely fantastic. The best episode ever, no question. It dealt with so much stuff: with guilt, mortality, loyalty, suicide, insanity and love, but in the most intriguing, mind-blowing, seamless, suspenseful way possible. The spoons of space honey thing was great, and the way we never knew whether Leela was awake or not, especially when she woke up from dreams within dreams... the "Wake up, please, just wake up!" thing was really clever and well thought out and I thought it was so well done when we didn't find out what was happening until the end. In my opinion, it's ridiculously underrated at 18/72 (by the CGEF rankings), but I suppose it might not be the sort of episode that has the same impact when watched twice: the ending was so amazing that if you already knew it, it might not really have worked so well. So I guess I'm saying: remember back to when you first saw it, because it was really an amazingly powerful, clever and moving episode. I thought it was brilliant. It also had some hilarious moments, like Bender playing virtual golf and Leela "packing a lunch" for the queen bee, but what really got it there was its brilliant storyline. I give it and A+++, or however many pluses you can give an episode, and put it on the top of my list.

This episode comes in second only to Luck of the Fryish, and it's a really close second. Brilliantly written, the parts were wonderfully voiced, you knew Fry had to be alive but couldn't figure out how, the twist was totally unexpected and it was really moving while still being a happy ending. One of those shows where you want to tie the Fox network executives to a chair, make them watch and say,"This is what you cancelled, you idiot! What's wrong with you?"

Having watched all of the Futurama episodes over the last couple of months , this struck me as the best. Not a huge rating on the belly-laugh scale, but then Futurama has never been an out and out hilarity show, unlike Family Guy or even the Simpsons.

Maybe I don't see enough telly, but it's rare to see someone whose despair leads to a spiral of insanity and eventual self-destruction in anything but a hammy portrayal, but Futurama have pulled it off. That Leela pulled out of it was ineveitable as you can't kill off the major characters, lessened the dramatic impact, but not seriously so.

I also felt the series paid homage to 'The Singing Detective' tv series(the BBC version not the movie) through its mix of insanity and reality as well as the 'Don't worry, bee happy' song.

It's always sad to see a great tv series end, but maybe Futurama has 'jumped the shark'. It would be even sadder to see it in 5 or 6 years time rehashing tired story lines la the Simpsons. I'm glad I can cherish it for what it is..

This may not be the funniest episode, but the concept is great, and obviously a lot of thought and effort went into it. I finally saw this episode for the first time thanks to Cartoon Network, but I had already read a transcript so I wasn't surprised. What impressed me the most was the way Billy West and Katey Segal delivered their lines. This episode shows them at the top of their game by giving them a chance to be emotional. They have a wide range, and they made this episode that extra level of great.

One last note: For all those who say this episode lacked comedy, which episode were they watching? There's some really funny stuff going on, like the song and the usual goldmine of background gags. If you only watch the episode idly, yeah, you won't find any humour. But if you actually pay some good attention, you'll laugh out loud. Sure, it's not an episode made to be really humorous, like Why Must I Be A Crustacean In Love? or Amazon Women In The Mood, but it's definitely funny.

Firstly id like to say screw you to all the people who gave this episode a bad rating. you have no sense of humour or taste in good story lines. This episode was genious, funny, romantic, tragic, and many other things i cant think of because im tired. but i loved this episode, it was the first episode of futurama i saw that had a really touching and romantic storyline, it made me think so much and got me into the whole storyline and progression of the leela - fry relationship, you just want her to fall in love with him! i loved the music, christopher ting is an excellent musician, plus he has a funny name! this episode has jokes, twists and a tear jerking moment when it cuts to fry crying in the hospital, it makes you wonder why leela and fry ar not together yet. in conclusion i say this is one of the best futurama episodes ever, and anyone who doesnt like it has no sense of humour or has never been in love.

Great, great episode.

First, the jokes were great. Loved the cameos at the funeral, and the guillotine scene was hilarious.

Second, as some previous posters said, it was good to see the Leela/Fry relationship from her perspective for a change. When she is in a deep coma, all that she can think about - and the only thing that makes her happy - is Fry. Right when she was about to die/stay in the coma forever (when she was about to take the 3rd sip of bee honey) it was Fry who got her fighting to wake back up.

Finally, for those people who complain about some of the later episodes being "too depressing" or the like -- remember that Futurama was trying to wrap up a large story arc in what I'm sure was a shortened lifespan. They couldn't ignore the Fry/Leela dynamic until the last ep, and have them walk off together.

This is my all time favourite Futurama episode (along with the Devil's hands are idle playthings). To me it really showed Fry's love for Leela, even though she obviously doesn't deserve it. After Fry had gotten the stinger right through him Leela was more interested in her own wound then attempting thank or help the person who tried to save her life (!)

But enough of my Leela bashing, the episode was well though through, the mix of humour and sadness was a glorious mix of intelligent writing, and the tribute to Space Odyssey was well noted.

This episode also showed the true development of the relationship between Fry and Bender, especially in the line

"When i said kill all humans, i always whispered except one, and Fry was that one"

There have been only two Episodes that have made be shed a tear, this one and the luck of the Fryirish.

In a word 'Excellent'

I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but the all the negative comments I've read are for the wrong reasons. How can you not find it funny if you've seen even a handful of the episodes this one references? Do you hate watching genuine emotion in mostly-comedy series? Watch Family Guy for smart, referential humor or The Simpsons for lower brow comedy, because you're obviously not aware of why Futurama is different.

"The Sting" is one of my favorites, up there with "The Luck of the Fryrish," "Parasites Lost," and "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings," but it's also the one that brought me closest to tears. Yes, the ending device has been used (and those who think it's stolen from something specific probably don't watch enough TV or movies to realize it's extremely widely used) but it's rarely done this well. I was too caught up in the voice acting to try to figure out how it would end, and while it didn't completely catch me by surprise, I loved the way it ended.

Among the very finest the series has to offer, maybe not in terms of humor , but in terms of plot, narrative structure, and its use of the main characters. Poignant and heartfelt, this is why Futurama is a better overall show than Family Guy.

Easily one of the best episodes of Futurama. Smart writing and shameless emotion-tugging. This is what seperates this cartoon from all the others, the emotional attachment, so that you feel as though you're laughing with them instead of at them.

Superb.

Excellent episode. Leela's feelings for Fry really show in this episode. Everything is definitly coming around. Fry and Leela make the perfect couple. A lot of great faces at the funeral too. The people who give this episode a poor review are only spotlighting their own ignorance. This is the BEST episode of the entire series - bar none! Futurama, like other excellent comedies such as Scrubs and M*A*S*H is a multi-layered tapestry of comedy, romance, and even tragedy. At its best, it either touches or challenges us. Even the lesser episodes will bring a smile. This is definitely NOT one of the lesser episodes! The series has been building for 5 years on the love story between Leela and Fry. The payoff is truly worth the wait. Don't let anyone dissuade you from watching this one. It, along with "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" are on the absolute must-see list. A spectacular episode of a terrific series. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Man, Man, Man.

Damn Good! I must have seen this particular episode forever and it still makes me cry, man!

This is the episode where you're just hoping that Fry and Leela end up together in the long haul. Leela finds out what life is like without Fry and Fry shows his devotion to Leela completely.

Not as funny as the previous episodes, but it hits the emotional bend straight on. The final lines, however, made me laugh greatly..."You need a shower." "You too!"

And, finally, as Leela clutched Fry's picture and cried, "I don't know what to do!", she tugged on my heart and I answered

Futurama was great because as many others said, its the only cartoon show with heart, causing fans to actually feel for the characters in ways you wouldn't be able to with Family Guy or The Simpsons. Fry and Leela are my new favourite fictional couple *smiles

This is one of the few episodes that, despite its slim and sort of unimaginative premise ("it's only a dream"), was thoroughly entertaining even if it leaned more on developing Leela's character than the humor. Not that there weren't any good lines:

Bender: "A hush comes over the crowd...the only sound is Bender callingeveryoneajerkasheSWINGS!"

And of course, "Bzz Bzz Bzz!"

The whole point though, was to give some justification to the romance between Leela and Fry which, for a change, is from Leela's perspective, rather than Fry's -- a much more refreshing take on that subplot (we've seen Fry pine for Leela for quite a while already). I also was entertained by the fate of the Professor's former crew, which gives the plot points more depth.

I thought the ending was really cry-worthy(although, to be fair, I hadn't watched the other emotional episodes then). The fact that Fry never gave up on Leela which in turn pushed her never give up subconsciously was just touching.

The first time I saw this episode, I was numb. I couldn't conjure any sort of reaction to what I had just seen.

I didn't feel anything until a few hours later, when I was flipping channels and I found a special on The Simpsons. They were only doing interviews with the cast, but for some reason, I couldn't stand watching it. I turned it off, and sat there for a minute. And the only thing that came to mind was, "I'll never see anything like that for Futurama."

And then, all of my suppressed emotions bubbled to the surface, and I started sobbing. And I couldn't stop. I was just so angry... I couldn't stand the injustice of it all.

Yes, it's only television. But it's damn good television, and I think it's a pity that gems like this don't get recognized more often. I'm giving this episode a 5 because it reminded me why I love this show... and hate Hollywood.

This episode was brilliant. I love watching it and trying to decide which parts of Fry's dialog are things he's actually saying to her:
"Fight it! The Leela I know wouldn't just give up!"
"There's something I never told you... I love you."

[giggles] I'm such a sucker for Fry and Leela episodes. But the way this episode slowly got out of control was awesome. After a while, I didn't know what to think anymore.

And, gotta love Bender:

Every once in a while Futurama manages to deliever something different that is still at the same level as the others. I have to admit, the first time I saw it I didn't like it, but the next time I saw it, I couldn't get enough of it. Brilliant animation, challenging story and references to '2001 Space Odessy' make this episode the 'stairway to heaven' of the Futurama series. If "Futurama" had had more episodes like "The Sting", I would have been a far more faithful viewer. It was nice to see the characters have a bit of depth for a change, instead of merely acting stupid, obnoxious, and oh yeah, OCCASIONALLY funny. If "Futurama" gets resurrected a la "Family Guy", I hope the writers will keep this episode in mind as a guide for future efforts. One more thing - what was really remarkable about this episode is that when emotion was expressed, it wasn't yanked back 2 seconds later. This showed a creative courage and faith in the audiences' intelligence that is sadly lacking in far too many contemporary cartoons. Kudos to the gang for "The Sting". But don't EVER let Fry get Leela. It does the slob some good to aim higher than he can ever score, plus it counterbalances his self-centered, lazy and cowardly attributes a bit.

Everybody has basically said the same thing in these reveiws so I'll just tell you my fav parts.

when they all sing, even if it's a little creepy.

when Leela's old neighbor says through the wall, "quit braggin', my boyfriend's still alive too! wait, not anymore." (I probably butchered it, but hey, I haven't seen it enough to quote it word for word like I can the lion king.)

and especially the end line.
( again, maybe butchered)

Fry: I don't know if it got through to you.
Leela: It got through Fry, It got through.

Sappy and funny, haven't seen that in awhile. I loved the fact that Leela in the come kept on dreaming and it just kept building up to the climax. The only bad thing was that it was confusing, you couldn't tell if she was going crazy or not or dreaming or awake. Anyway, really good episode but confusing. Random question, Did Leela's beloved sewer mutant parents ever figure out that their daughter was in a coma? I would love to see a reaction on their faces and see if they could gain sympathy from their fellow mutants with this heart-wrenching story of comas and love.

One of ther best episodes along side "Jurassic Bark" and "The Devil's Hands". I dunno if anyone has ever had dreams like these, where the line between reality and dreamland just blur completely and you dunno what's real or not. Have had them on the odd occasion, and just like in 'The Sting', it was about someone close to me dying. Watching this episode was heart-rending and terribly similar to what the experience was.Man, I need therapy.

Great episode all around. Good backstory, great main story. Really told people how Fry and
Leela* feel about each other.
2 things: I would have liked to see more of the old Planet Express ship, possibly inside it, and I understand Fry's dedication
to Leela*, but two weeks without
leaving her side? no wonder he needs a shower..

I guess that Leela's dreams were somewhat illusions of Fry being alive, plus the funeral, and Bender talking like Amy [funny] but Leela was the only one that got stung because the stinger hit Fry in the middle of his stomach and went through. So sad, So very very sad, after all Amy was included in this show, but it had no effect on me by crying what so ever.

I didn't expect much of this. I like shows with allot of wit and good humor, but I absolutely love plottwists. Otherwise, if I show doesn't make an impression on me, I'm likely to forget what I was watching the secound the credits roll. I was expecting this episode to either be so mundane I forget, or so sucky I remember it always. I never seem to catch the really awesome episodes of Futurama anymore, you know?

But I was bawling my eyes out at the end, which I was NOT expecting. Very VERY funny, but... at the same time the end is what's sticking in my mind. I started getting teary eyed the moment Fry began begging Leela to wake up, but oddly enough the line "Bedsores really hurt!" was what got me bawling. It was the sound of his voice. He sincerly sounded scared, and that's very rare on shows these days. Absolutely wonderful episode from a GREAT series. I demand more!

This episode was nothing short of amazing. Easily my favourite episode, this is one of the most true sci fi stories they have done. I have experienced times where dream states and reality blend and the way this was executed was nothing short of breath taking. Not as many jokes as usual, but the jokes that were there had me rolling, particularly the 2001 spoof. Great character development, touching, funny, everything. Just beautiful.

Anyone who doesn't love this episode doesn't understand what science fiction is about.

Probably my favorite episode. I think it was touching showing Leela's emotions for Fr, but it still wasn't sappy.

A well crafted and thought out episode. Never would have guessed the ending. The way how Leela felt she was only truly happy with Fry in her "dreams", when it was probably the words of prayer from Fry reaching her sub-conscious was touching. I'll never look at another person in a coma the same way again...

This was an awsome episode. The quality was superb and so was the plotline.
This is probably the very first cartoon episode to make me cry. I was a little sniffly in The Luck of the Fryrish, Time keeps on Slipping, Leela's homeworld and Juarasic Bark but this episode caused some serious waterworks.
Well, maybe I wasn't washing the floor with my tears but still cried!
This episode wasn't as full of jokes as the other episodes were, though.

Didn't watch that much episodes of Futurama, until some one gave me the "season 4 DVD box".

Well, I got hooked by the wackyness in the show. I thought it was "just" a pretext to have massive load of fun (and wow, what a funny show this is !)

And then came this episode...

Not as funny as other ones, but soooo excellent... We are overwhelmed by Leela's guilt and all her repressed feelings for Fry. It contains some of the most romantic moments I've ever seen in an animated show. And the final twist made me cry - Yeah, really.

Best episode of this season, perhaps of all the show. Without a doubt.

Straight from my tv.com review on this episode:

The episode starts out as the crew barely escapes from the space beehive while on a honey-collecting mission. Leela brings along a baby queen bee to build a hive and harvest more honey themselves, which tries to attack her. Fry defends her and ends up giving his whole life for her as the stinger pierces through his stomach. Now a grief-strucken Leela goes on the brink of insanity while recieving strange dreams that Fry is still alive...

This episode is my personal favorite, because not only does it have a very clever storyline with a twist ending, but it also showed a more heartfelt sentimental Leela. She didn't seem to care when Fry departed the PE crew in The Deep South and she explains why she doesn't want him in Time Keeps on Slippin', yet you see that she does want Fry by her side as a friend as the two save each others' necks in episodes such as A Bicyclops Built For Two and Xmas Story. Now you see her feeling miserable, because this time, she knows Fry is long gone. In her dreams, she does see how caring Fry is for her, and how happy she feels with him.

In addition to this touching episode, there are some brilliantly funny moments to be had here, like some great lines from Bender ("This is great! My buddy's alive is credit cards are valid again. Let's go get hammered!"), and the PE crew's goofy revocalizing of Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" Song.

It's a sweet episode, by and large; I especially like it better than the other emotional episode, Jurassic Bark, and even the series finale, The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings.

The best lines being

This is my favorite episodes of them all. Its a shame that the series was canceled. Personally I favor Futurama over Simpsons. I wish there was a way to bring it back. The Simpsons, although a good show has lost my interest and I no longer watch any of the brand new boring episodes. I was particularly emotionally moved by this episode. Anyone who has ever lost a spouse will recognize the series of dreams where the lost love is still alive and in the dream, it all seems completely logical. Errr.... No.

It was well written, complex, touching at times, but, well...

It wasn't Futurama.

The writers didn't even try to be funny - they went for pure drama/character study. Sorry guys, no can do: This is a comedy, and an irreverent one at that. You're simply doing your fans a disservice by trying to make it into something else... Not to mention the inherent shark-hopping implied.

I, personally, find Futurama to be one of the best shows out there. Just the fact that it can still make me laugh and cry even after years of repeat episodes is a testiment to that! This episode was one of the reasons that I found myself falling in love with this show. I don't feel that it fell short of what Futurama was/is about, but helps to show all of the different dimensions and depth to the characters.

My friends think Im nuts for saying this show is leaps and bounds better than Family Guy, but episodes like these make me stand fast with my choice.

Futurama is the only half hour show, cartoon even, that has ever brought on waterworks. Along with being one of the funniest shows I've ever watched, it also has some of the most moving stories Ive ever seen on a television show.

Wow this episode was one of the greatest Futurama episodes I have ever seen. I just started watching Futurama a couple months ago, and of all the episodes I have seen this one is definately the best.
I loved how you could never tell if Leela was dreaming or not and the whole entire episode kept you guessing. It reminded me a lot of the season finale of House, for anyone who watched that I am sure they will agree. T
here was a lot of really touching moments, like how Leela actually showed feelings towards Fry for once, and it was the greatest episode ever!!!
PS I <3 Zoidberg!

This episode was the reason I bought DVD season 4 box set.

Excellent all round, Fry is no longer a boy in this episode!

Superb....a cross between shakespeare and an acid trip!

Ah, my all-time favourite episode of Futurama. An emotion-filled episode that doesn't go so far, and yet it manages to keep the funny of Futurama packed all into one perfect piece of writing and animation. The best part is seeing things from Leela's point of view for once. An unexpected plot twist in the end keeps you guessing throughout the entire episode (it had me for sure), and the ending was so sweet. Absolutely incredible episode!

Loved it! It was really interesting to see leela's feelings for fry, and not the other way round. At fry's funeral, I thought "this can't be right. they can't kill off the main character!" I knew Fry wouldn't be dead. But I didn't know how he'd be alive! It kept me guessing until the end, and then I was shocked by the ending, very romamtic (except for the "you need a shower" bit. And I was amazed how well fry took his injury. I guess he was just worried about leela. This is one of my favourite episodes. And one of the strangest too! And that's from an animated sci-fi series too! I give it a 5

This was a great episode!! It shows that Futurama isn't just about broad comedy all of the time, the show also has some great emotion

CONFUSED JESSY--Fry was never actually killed. Everything that happened after Fry got stung was a dream up until Leela woke up in the hospital. That "honey Fry" was only in Leela's crazy dream. In reality, Fry got injured, but he never died.

'The Sting' is funny, heartbreaking, weird and beautiful - the best episode of the best TV series ever. The first time I saw it, I watched it again straight away; I had no doubt Fry would be back, but I didn't see the ending coming at all - and then on the second viewing you see how it all fits beautifully into place, how Leela perhaps DOES have some feelings for Fry. Whilst not the funniest characters, Fry and Leela are easily my favourites and this episode takes an unusual and slightly trippy angle to view their relationship. It's astonishing.

I think this IS the best episode of Futurama within the Seasons 1 to 5. It is almost the only eposide where the plot gets a little more serious, and i hoped that from this point the eposodes gets less replacable across the Seasons. (the hole was not fulfilled at all)
The story is ohe of the most interesting, and you really can not guess the ending quite early. It is not just fr laughing, here you can feel with the characters. The effects are also quite good but not outstanding - this eposide lives from the dialouges and the character development. (unfortunately this is complete unrecognizable in the following episodes)

Out of the tearjerker episodes this one has to be the saddest one. After watching it the first time and knowing how it ends I can't help but cry every time Fry says "you have to wake up" thinking that he loves Leela so much that he's at her side talking to her the entire time. The other tearjerker episodes like "The Luck of the Fryrish", "Jurassic Bark" and "Time keeps on slippin'" all make you cry at the end but this one makes you cry several times during the episode.

I love futurama, but this episode had some of THE best quotes, including "The only thing the other crew did better than us was suck and die", "Nah, I can't sing, court order" and the whole guillotine bit ("yes, easily" BAAAHA!). The story was sweet too, and I admit I got a little choked up when leela finally woke up at the end. If you can do that in a world with no solid boundaries built only for comedy, that's some good story tellin. AWESOME!

Futurama is definitely on my all time favorite programs list. (Why else would I be here bothering to write something?) And by season 5, the group obviously had all their stuff together - totally super brilliant, "up a knotch" from brilliant and totally brilliant earlier on. It's difficult then to pick a favorite episode - close calls all around. But if I had to pick one, this is surely it (or maybe .. no I've made up my mind ... but then there was Crimes of the Hot, The Taste of Freedom, Obsoletely Fabulous, Anthology of Interest, Time keeps on slippin' - gotta mention that, Second that Emotion, Put Your Head on my Shoulder, How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back.... Can I make a list of 72?). RE: "The Sting" -Loved that surprise ending.

Futurama at its very best. This episode is absolutely amazing and is my favorite of all time. That said, I notice the main criticism is that the episode wasn't funny. I agree, it really wasn't. Not once did I laugh, but the episode wasn't really going for humor (for the most part). Anyone who watches Futurama just to laugh should go elsewhere. There are FAR too many adult-oriented cartoon shows that are pure comedy and have no real stories or character development. Futurama has always centered around its great characters, so drama and emotion are sure to follow. The jokes are there, but they're built around the stories. It's not a story built around some jokes. It's Futurama's fine balance of humor and character that make it rise far above the other shows in its genre.

Before I start, let me just say this: if you've never read the episode, don't read this review. It's impossible to rate this episode without giving away the plot.

After only watching this episode once, I've already come to the conclusion that this is one of the 5 best Futurama episodes of all time (the other 4 being Jurassic Bark, Luck of the Fryrish, Overclockwise, and Leela's Homeworld). The comedy in the first act worked very well, but that's not what made the episode great. What made the episode great was the plot in the second and third act. The way the fantasies were confused with real life and the all too plausible dreams made it seem like you were really seeing it from Leela's point of view, not an outside point of view. In fact, towards the end, it was truly convincing that Leela was going crazy, which is one of the toughest things to pull off in writing. The fact that she went crazy was incredibly touching. This was the first episode that recognized that Leela loved Fry just as much as Fry loved Leela. All throughout the episode, I knew Fry couldn't possibly be dead, but I didn't know what was really going on. Then, when I found out what was really going on, and that Fry was just as obsessed with Leela as Leela was with Fry, it was one of the most, no, THE most emotional moment that Futurama ever created.

After having watched the new season of the show, I have a new appreciation for this episode.

I would first like to address a lot of the negative reviews of this one. A lot of you dislike it because it is so story based, and focuses on the characters more than whacky humor. If you don't like that kind of thing, that's fine. It's not everyone's taste. However, do understand that other people watch Futurama for different reasons. The whacky stuff is fun, but its the story driven, emotional episodes that set this show apart. Without them, I don't feel this show would have one tenth of the following that it does.

As for the episode, it is without a doubt my favorite of the entire series. It just seemed to take everything that made Futurama great and turn it into 20 minutes of great television. Humor, sci-fi, a little emotion, and great story telling all help to make this a great episode.

I think it was when I first watched this episode that I realized Futurama isn't just a great show, it's the greatest show I've ever seen.

This is such a sweet and cleverly written episode that I feel a bit guilty rating it so low, but The Sting just isn't the sort of thing I'm in the mood for when I go to watch Futurama. I realize that Futurama is supposed to have more character development and emotional involvement than say South Park but I expect it to be at least *lighthearted* even if not laugh out loud funny. The Sting wasn't even that though, in fact it was quite depressing in parts. Episodes like The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings, Parasites Lost and Love and Rocket all managed to find a far better balance between comedy, character development and the more sentimental romantic material. I think that genre confusion like this is one of the reasons this show keeps getting cancelled.
