Not brilliant, but still good. The first half was a lot stronger.

Not as good as the first, a slight let down as far as writing goes. So much potential but not carried out as well as it could or should have been. But some good moments, and still something that can be watched multiple times.

Written by Carolyn Premish, a person I have never heard of before and I hope never to hear of again.

The next sub par episode that has anything to do with Carolyn will get a 1 from me.

A perfectly fine episode. It had some great one-liners, and Zapp's fantasy sequences were funny. The ending was kind of unnecessary, but I just think it was a joke that got a bit out of hand. I get definite Beast With a Billion Backs vibes from this episode--but, hey, there's nothing wrong with the occasional raunchy, gag-driven episode.

Just finished watching episode 2 here at 5.00am over in the UK and really enjoyed it. It was a definite low from the previous episode and stunning opener, 'Rebirth' but it had it's own charm. The second half dragged on quite a bit though. Looking forward to future episodes, when set in the present day. Still, a brilliant episode that exceeds the bar set for today's animation from shows like The Simpsons or 'The Pimpsons' ;) and Family Guy.

I have to disagree. Zapp is a horribly annoying character, hes extremely cliche and has nothing about him that is interesting.just ur garden variety man-boy. UGH! i hate episodes like this! just give us zany episodes that happen within the realm of the main characters. no more zapp, no more robot mafia. not more alien bullshit. it isnt funny. i just like the series too much to watch these abomination

Again; not up to par with the originals.

The whole episode was based way too much on obvious sexual tension with Leela & Zap (they are naked for 1/2 of it...). It lacks subtly.

Does Carolyn Premish even exist? Or is she a figment of all our imaginations. This new episode of Futurama explores this age old questi--- oh wait? What's that? It doesn't?

The B-plot really shines in this episode, making me laugh out loud multiple times. Thank you Dr. Zoidberg, and the makers of Parcheesi. The A-plot isn't too strong, and I would've enjoyed if the plots had switched superiority.

Overall, not a horrible episode, especially one second viewing. If you focus on the B-plot, all you naysayers, you'll enjoy this one a lot more.

And, due to there not being a 3.5, I'll just round this up to 4 to give this episode some slack from the detractors.

The writers need to figure out what Fry and Leela's relationship is, and then put it firmly in the background.

The end of this episode (and Beast with a Billion Backs) illustrates pretty ably that the writers shouldn't have free reign over their characters' romantic lives, because they end up cheapening them - not to mention, forgetting to write clever jokes about them.

Overall, this episode had some clever touches (the 50s serial approach to Brannigan's dreams, the b-story), but the Adam and Eve plot was too forced, and the pacing is worryingly like the Simpsons after it started souring... rushing the jokes, and not trusting the characters.

Rebirth makes me optimistic for the future - hopefully the show is just getting its footing back.

At time of review this episode ranks 71/74 I just can't believe we are watching same episode. Have seen every episode dozens of time and this does not deserve to be in bottom five. Booo to you people and your critical futurama watching, enjoy the episode expectation free and you will see the error of your reviews. Gave it 4 tempted to give 5 to even out score but it didn't deserve a 5, really solid episode though. Good to have you back.

It was a funny episode with alot of witty one liners and the plot was pretty good too but they ruined leela's character. For example fry and leela are dating one minute but then she ends up being easily minupulated by zapps dumbass schemes to get in her pants and then after she finds out he was lying about the "uncharted planet" they were stuck on she has sex with him (in front of fry) because some deathship thinks there adam and eve and orders them to do it. it makes no sense why frys not soar about it and leela is so willing to have intercourse with the same guy shes been repulsed by the whole series..even if she had to do it she seemed more than ok with the idea.. major flaws very disapointed

Once again a bit of a let down but it had a pretty strong start and I like the starwars references. I still think they could have done without the half episode of nudity but then again that's what happens with a new network. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against nudity but only if it has something even remotely related to the story. Didn't expect leela to sleep with brannigan I mean just not what I expected after into the wild green yonder. He tried to kill them I mean come on leela.

I was very disappointed by this episode. It seems as if its writers were just trying to jump on the disgusting Family Guy-esque sexual humor bandwagon, forgetting that they are DIFFERENT from all the ignorant BS out there, and that's what makes people like me love them. I also agree that alot of the trashy parts seemed forced. They made no sense in the context of Futurama as a whole, and they made Leela look waaaaay cheaper than the true fans know her to really be. Not only did it cheapen Leela, but it cheapened the whole show and its writers as a whole. If this trend continues, I will no longer continue to watch.

I agree Leela was out of character and i didnt like how she was falling into temptation for Zapp, I didnt like how they ended up doing the nasty at the end, Leelas always pissed me off cause shes never gave Fry a chance back in the day and reminds me of a typical BLIND girl who doesn't see how much Fry loves her and hes what she needs BUT Im willing to over look this cause i laughed my ass off and enjoyed the episode, Zapps always funny.

I am a HUGE Futurama fan, aren't we all? I had overly high expectations. The reasoning for all the raunch I think is because THEY CAN. They were on FOX and now on cable, they can get away with more. Part of this mirrored Star Trek's "The Changeling" with the "v-giny" machine. So *nod* to them for Star Trek. What was with all the flash back stuff? In Rebirth and this one? It's like, just give it to me strait! The gag dragged on a little too long but I loved Zapp in this episode. They do need to define Fry/Leela more. I would like for them to cut down the inuendo/raunch more, that's not why I fell in love with Futurama.

This is an episode that made me laugh a lot, but thinking about it afterwards I realize it had a lot of flaws. The V-GINY probe was wasted potential. They could have made a real story about it and made it into a real character...but instead they focused on the sexy shenanigans of Zapp and Leela and uncharacteristic and snake humor.

That said, Zapp's crying was very funny and there were a lot of other good gags.

I rated this episode as "average", but all in all, average is pretty good.

Ah, Futurama... Back at last! Scotty here from the old Say Argh! website.

I thought this episode was very funny, the major issue I have with it is how quickly Leela started to 'want' zapp.

She has always despised him, it felt so out of character: I didn't really buy the delirious thing. The situation felt forced.

That said it was still a very entertaining episode and had very funny moments.

I just wish the writers remembered what the characters personalities were ;)

New episodes had ups and downs
but I'm super-happy show is back
Also all the sex and nudity was great. Did u see Leela and Amy's new outfits? Amazing.
Anyways, Zapp's cartoony dreams were great. Actual pacing of the story was sort of strange, especially towards the end while Zapp was doing all of his 'reveals'. That just dragged on and on and I really didn't care to much.
But yeah, it was great that Zapp and Leela could have a sexual reconnection. Also the combined star wars and trek joke worked well, especially for signing off the episode.

Overall I'd have to say I enjoyed Rebirth much more than this. I expected more from a Zapp centered episode. The first 5 minutes were excellent, but then it fell in to a bit of a lull, just to end with Leela having sex with Zapp in front of Fry. Not to be overly sentimental, but the show has always had heart in the past, and after all we went through to finally see Fry and Leela together and in love, this ending felt like a slap in the face from the writers. If it had served the plot at all I could have tried to look past it, but it made little sense in the context of the weak story. I guess episode 3 will start with Fry getting a "quick and painless" in the nearest suicide booth.

Okay I give it 2.5
It wasnt terrible. I laughed because our writers always make us laugh. But really, this was futurama. I have watched the series so many times and when comparing it, yeah it deserves to be right at the bottom of the list. It was out of character. Drawings of the garden were sketchy, the voices were just a bit off and the pace never really flowed. I can only hope it improves. Whilst it made me laugh, they werent from the characters I love and it was far too crude. That ending was awful. Leela has too much respect for herself to do something like that. The same goes for Amy who was desperate for an orgy. Yeah many will think its funny, but this comedy isnt like family guy. This comedy goes on a deeper level. It perhaps goes even deeper than the simpsons ever did and for that reason, our beloved Leela should not have done what she did. Please improve guys, I still have faith!

Now, I actually liked this one more than the first one. Here's why... I've waited (like I said in the first review) for 7 years for new episodes and this is really the first episode since the cancellation that is a complete one-off. The movies are huge stories and even the first episode of this season is a continuation of the last movie. I am so happy to finally get a 22 minute one-off adventure. I loved the movies, but I can't wait for more of episodes that are unrelated for the most part.

Definitely not a strong showing for the show's return. Felt like I was watching a Family Guy episode at times, too much forced sexual humor (e.g. the orgy joke) Just did not feel like the old Futurama. There were a few parts that gave me hope for later episodes though. Heres to hoping.

Overall, not good. Sorta like a Futurama fan tribute or something, as though the original staff hadn't made it... EXCEPT for the Captain-Video-esqu cut scenes with Zapp dreaming of seducing a low-budget Leela. Those were brilliant, and more to the point, seemed like real FUTURAMA, not a cheap knock-off like the rest of the episode. I remain cautiously hopeful about the future. If the shows stay at this level, though, it will be heartbreaking to watch Goening and Cohen drag out their beloved best work and s*** all over it.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, this is a funny episode that uses some great side characters (Nixon and Zapp)

This episode may make shippers uneasy and disgusted but let's not forget Leeela was delirious and thought they were the only two humans left and couldn't get off the planet. This episode was a strong start to a promising season. Peace out Y'all!

Ep started out great, was funny and Zapp was on great form for the first half. Loved the DIY Nimbus. Then things got a bit stupid and took a turn for the worse. This dragged it down below the quality of Rebirth in my opinion. I liked the concept of the episode, but Zapp stranded with Leela should have been much more funny. Leela thinking her and Zapp were the last humans (mutant and human then) alive after the Earth blows up (well when she thought it had), but heeeellloooo; do you really think every human is on Earth at that exact moment in time and only you two were off on another planet? (even though it wasn't, but that's not the point) So you're absolutely sure that no one else from Earth is in space anywhere at all? Somehow you were, and enough to make out with the Zapper. Seemed a bit too dumb to me...

Talking snake, eh. Then Zapp explaining everything, was funny the first time, maybe even twice, but beyond that it got annoying. I still liked the ep, but the second half is not up to Futurama's usual standard...

I'm as big a fan of futurama as the next person, but why did futurama take such a turn for the worst? the original series was about each package delivery. Ever since the movies, they have become universe threatening plots. the writing in this episode was horrible and there was hardly anything funny about it.

We wait 6.95 seasons for Leela to hook up with Fry and 2 episodes into the new season she bangs Zapp again...before she ever sleeps with Fry as far as we know and IN FRONT of Fry no less?!? I enjoyed this episode. I thought that Zapp was in character;I was very amused when it was revealed that Zapp lied about pretty much everything.

I love the fact that Fry and Leela are finally together.

Its understandable that these first two episodes are leaving some people cold, but as someone who has been following Futurama from the very beginning of its television debut, I'm just glad that the show is back, and its very refreshing to see things in their intended half-hour format again.

I find the negative comparisons people here are drawing to Beast With A Billion Backs to be hilarious, as that was my favourite of the four Futurama movies by a landslide, and not coincidentally I rather loved this episode. How can you guys NOT love the references to Star Trek the Motion Picture and the original Star Wars? Maybe people missed the Star Trek reference, or maybe I'm just an imbecile, but I couldn't stop laughing at the name "V-GINY". The Zapp Brannigan subplot gets high marks from me, as do Zapp's "old-timey" dream sequences.

This episode disappointed me. Leela wouldn't have stood for that at all. She would have broken the branch, or dug under her legs, and roundhouse-kicked Zapp in his lying face. She never took this sort of nonsense from him before! And especially since she's supposedly come around to Fry now.

And the ending was kind of anti-climactic. And once again, Leela wouldn't have done that, either... not without more of a fight, right?

I felt that the first episode was solid, not hilarious but well written and serving the purpose of getting the show rolling again (which it did without seeming to miss a beat). I've read a few reviews arount th eweb that haven't been as keen on the second episode which had me laughing all the way through. The image of Leela perched atop Zap and floating through space was simple yet effective. And Zap's agnoized admissions had me laughing through til the end, espeically as the deeds he revealed became more and more descpicably self-serving. I'm interested to see how the new dynamic between Fry and Leela will affect the show. I liked them both and can't wait for next week.

Overall, I think this episode is probably the most "snack-like" episode the series has produced thus far. It's not really here for anything (even its not really focused on censor message). This episode aims to do nothing more than give us a complete comic plot to have Zapp and Leela stuck together, with Leela reliant on Zapp, and their interactions from that. It succeeds in making this entertaining and informative on the characters relationship with each other, especially Zapp's feelings toward Leela. I like it.

It's not QUITE as bad as A Leela of Her Own or The Cryonic Woman, but it's close.
There are a number of great jokes, but they're spread far and few between. Add on to that a lot of incredibly puerile humour, a fairly lame plot, a terrible guest appearance and characters acting completely out of character and we've got one of the worst episodes of Futurama ever.
Of course, it's important to remember that even Futurama's worst episode is still absolutely fantastic television. Whilst I give this episode a 1/5 for Futurama's standards, it's a good 4/5 for overall TV standards. I have faith that the season will pick up once we get a few episodes in.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. After reading previous comments on the raunchy/bawdy humor of this episode, I think some viewers may be missing the point. It was, after all, an episode about a censorship death sphere. The nudity, the orgy suggestion, even Zapp's "I wax my rocket every day" were not so subtle rejections of the censorship expectations that many viewers have internalized due to the heavy hand of the network censors. Tying Zapp and Leela together as Adam and Eve suggested the role of God for SEC/network censors and then deliberately defied that role by have the V-Giny (classic) satelite force Leela and Zapp to engage in a "sanctioned" form of lewd behavior. I'm wondering if our own reservations about Zapp and Leela having sex so suddenly isn't also one of the targets the writers had in mind. And it was funny. (Zapp's little admissions, old-timey dreams...)

Garbage. Futurama has been dummed down for idiots to enjoy, while leaving the original fans lost.

Felt no connection to the original characters, other than their voices (Some of which changed with overacting, like Leela).

"The writers need to figure out what Fry and Leela's relationship is, and then put it firmly in the background."

Precisely this. The Leela/Zapp main plot was uncomfortable to watch as a fan of the series. Leela far too easily went straight to Zapp and didn't even mention Fry when she thought the Earth had been destroyed.

At first I thought they'd go deeper into the relationship thanks to Fry's line as Zapp and Leela left in the ship but I was sorely disappointed.

The ending particularly irked me and actually made me feel really bad for Fry as opposed to amused at the situation. Definitely a case of a joke getting out of hand.

The first half was far superior to the second and I was actually enjoying it immensely up until then but the second act was so uncomfortable and uncharacteristic that it came close to ruining it all.

A funny episode in places but certainly not a fan pleaser. Rebirth was far superior.

Loved it, EXCEPT the last minute or so. There was no explanation given for the dethshpere who had spent the entire episode about to blow up earth because of its immorality suddenly wanting to see a sex act. And Zap and Leela? not cool. the ending was a misfire, I understand the concept, it's funny that religious people want to censor everyone when the bible itself has some pretty nasty content. they didn't make the point at the end. why was leela doing Zapp approved for all audiences? it's because it's bible sex, duh. but writers failed to make the connection in a funny way.
The set up for leela having sex was mis-handled as well, she should have been so mad at zapp and exasperated that when v-giny demanded it the dead be done there should have been a nice long pause then she throws her arms up and says whatever.
Finally Frys reaction was weak , he should have pulled a Khaaaaaaan! or more of a khan at any rate. over dramatic to the Nth power. kitties weeping, maybe v giny broadcasts it across the globe. something God awful shamless.
I think the show has lost some writers, I'm glad it's back, but I hope it hasn't lost it's touch.

Despite a few funny moments(Bender's guinea pig), I was little disappointed with the episode. They were definably forcing more sex into the episode and I feel it takes away from the unique charm that Futurama had and it also led to the awkward moment of Fry watching Leela have sex with Zapp. Im a huge Futurama fan and Im stoked about its return but, from this episode, I get the idea that they're changing the formula slightly by adding more sexual references to appeal to the different audience that Comedy central brings. I really hope this isn't the case.

Slightly underrated here. The episode had a strong start of good jokes in the first half, but the 2nd half not so much, once it focuses on the Leela and Zapp "Adam and Eve" plotline too much. The ending I felt was way too rushed for Leela to just dive in and have sex with Zapp with no hesitation, and although the CSI Miami reference got me a laugh, I felt that maybe they used it in the wrong way. I'm probably just being a little too picky though.

The first half of the episode was fun and had a lot of good jokes. I especially liked the breaking of the 4th wall with the CSI joke. However the second half with Leela and Zap was so out of character it was rage inducing. What was the point of Fry and Leela becoming a couple after four seasons, four movies, and rebirth, just to kill the relationship with bad writing? I sincerely hope the writer is fired for this episode.

Lacking. Had some good gags but what I find sets Futurama apart from other shows making it so much better is its quality of storytelling. This episode did not feel like that, it feltt disjointed, crudely assembled and too common, not special as futurama usually is. Still watchable though.

I have to say that this one is my least favorite of them all. The characters were out of character, the story wasn't that good... and the jokes could have been written for any other episode. This isn't Futurama as we used to know. I hope the next episodes will be better... This one lacked any logic. Just as an example... Earth "blow up" and Leela says that there are no humans left... what about Mars and all the other planets. Is Leela the stupid one, now?

By far one of the worst episode's of Futurama. The worst part is that Rebirth was so hilarious and was a perfect return to the series. The writer of this episode had clearly not seen the rest of the series and all of the characters seemed incredibly wooden, generic, and out of character, with their lines easily deliverable by anyone. Not to mention the pointlessness of the snake. The ending of Leela and Zap having sex was unnecessary and made no sense at all. It was all very forced and boring. I really hope they pull it together.

I guess episode 3 will start with Fry getting a "quick and painless" in the nearest suicide booth."

my thoughts exactly, people who stuck with this show have developed an emotional connection to fry, and it felt really like a slap and insulting.

Futurama plays heavily on classic science fiction movies and shows, and this episode started out no different with Zapp's dream sequences. The censorship satellite also hearkens back to Star Trek's "The Changeling" episode. So far this episode was promising. Then Zapp and Leela ended up naked.

What was the point of this? Fry and Leela are supposed to be in a relationship now, but it seems like the writers forgot this, or decided to throw it out the window. What would have been better is if Zapp actually changed his ways. Is a little character development so hard that the writer had to fall back on some old and tired sexual tension?

If this episode occurred sometime in the second or third season, it would seem appropriate. Now, it feels underdeveloped and out of place.

I wasn't very impressed with this episode. With the Zapp and Leela storyline being the main plot it was fairly weak, reliant mainly on the single punchline of Zapp lying. The other half of the story with the remaining crew was weak indeed and lacked any real substance or inventiveness following the first 5 minutes of the show.

The professor's character is still written well, and to be fair Zapp and Leela still sound like Zapp and Leela but the rest of the cast seem a little off - particularly Fry whose dialogue seems forced and rarely amusing to any degree.

The end was also disappointing coming to no real conclusion - and leaving it to the viewer's interpretation seemed lazy when they should be looking for a clever way to wrap things up rather than having the V-GINY space ship completely contradict its intentions at the end.

Signing in to say this was the worst episode ever. Futurama was always about clever, nerdy and somethimes difficult humour, not about cheap sexual stuff. It began with the last movie and continues now. This episode had no subtlety, it was too obvious and too cheap. This is not the Futurama I know and love. I mean... forced sex? Seriously? Amy in a SM suit saying: "So the orgy is off?" Or Fry saying: "This is a good place to take a dump." Waaay below the former intelligent standard. It makes Futurama into a teen flick.

That being said, I love Zap Brannagan and his plan was nice and funny - it's just the actual gags and presentation that were horrible.

Also, nice to have you back, doctor Zoidberg.

It came on strong in the beginning but the double speak was weak throughout. The sex overtones were over done and without finesse.

The finale with the out of view sex scene was not normally Classic Futurama detail and lacked edge.

The Black and White diatribe was confusing and out of sync with the natural tone of the original series.

Generally this is the first Futurama show that I would not watch again, and turn the TV off if it sees the light of day.

Definitely doesn't stand up against most other episodes.

The main trouble being that it wasn't believable. I don't me 'wow! a spaceship that's so believable' I mean it didn't fit with the characters. Zapp isn't that clever and Leela isn't that stupid.
I might also be on my own when I say I thought the nudity became a little unnecessary and over done.

Despite these things there are still some good jokes...they just could quite justfy the way-too-wacky plot.

1) "V-Giny"

2) Leela jumping Zap without a second thought in front of everyone including Fry

3) Constant barrage of Family Guy -esque one liners and absolute lack of any humor; the pedantic attempts don't count

5) Zero character development

6) Weak to non-existent plot if it can be called that (yes we get the weak V-Ger Star Trek reference)

7) No clever little hidden easter eggs e.g. Commodore LXIV, 1. Home 2. Sweet 3. Goto 1

Adds up to the weakest episode of Futurama yet by a wide margin. The only redeeming moment was the dome of understanding.

I hope that I'm just being grumpy, lacking sleep, and just saw this episode wrong with my way too over critical eye, and that the rest of the season is awesome.

This episode was much improved on the first one. There should have been more of the robot Leela and Fry still loving the human counterparts. I don't know about you but after watching the first four new episodes I found it frustrating how they all ended and nothing had changed apart from in this one. Anyone who complains about Leela sleeping with Zapp should think way back to episode two. I seem to remember Matt Groening being proud the leading lady was strong enough to survive being sullied by sleeping with Zapp. I think now they should actually let Fry try actually dating Leela, I personally am getting tired of no story progression. I think they should sleep together, live together have a pregnancy scare or not get on living together or something just to freshen the show up a little.

I only laughed a couple of times "That planet was erased like 18 minutes of incriminating tape" and the logic and reason bit. The whole ep felt like a 13 year old wrote a terrible fan fic of futurama that somehow became an episode. Zap and Leela at the end WHY!? I'm just going to pretend this episode was a giant dream of zaps, it was easily the worst episode of futurama for me.

I still enjoyed this ep despite it's critical reception, and despite the fact that I've only given it a 2. It wasn't the strongest ep, but it did have it's moments. Like many, I felt the first half was superior to the second half. Amy's orgy line was very funny, something that wouldn't have been possible on FOX due to adult content. So an ok episode, not the best, but not the worst.

Wow, I'm still glad to see Futurama back on the air but this episode was a little upsetting. The show seems to be getting way more raunchy than it ever has been. I don't really like it, not to say I disapprove of sexually explicit jokes but it feels so out of place in this series. I hope this was the low point in the season and it's all uphill from here. Keep em coming CC.

This episode was really pointless and random. I don't think Leela would "do it" with Zapp, even if the earth was going to be destroyed. That could have been the plot of the whole episode, actually, but it was just thrown in there at the end. This one reminds me of a bad Simpsons episode.

Not the best episode of Futurama but by no means the worst. A Zapp story was a long time coming so was nice to see it after wishing one for many years. People complain about the sexuall content being a bit like Family Guy. I don't think it's any worse than the Beast with a Billion Backs. There's some great lines in this one. An enjoyable 22 minutes. Just not the best 22 minutes spent watching Futurama!

Hate to say it but this might just be the worse episode of Futurama ever. (No episode of Futurama deserves a 1 though) I never would have thought that Leela and Zapp together could be so dull and meandering. Jokes were below average, (some very slight funny moments) characters seemed out of character and the ending was just bad. Definitely the worse of the season.

Zap planning such an intricate plot to get Leela to sleep with him... then getting caught out on every part but still trying to get away with... Classic, but the best had to be the transcredible exploits of Zapp Brannigan... as soon as I saw exploits... i knew this would be a rehash of Loves Labours epi.

Well done for a writer I've never heard off. Kudos if that was your first... so max points (i'd be harsher 2nd time round).

Not as amazing as the "rebirth" episode, but it does have its moments. The overly sexual themes and lack of sublety really breaks the theme of Futurama. I admit I was intrigued for a good portion of this, but the ending became much too distasteful and rushed. Writers need to work on Fry and Leela's relationship, because after this episode, the writers try to pretend the relationship isn't there, but still bring it back later. Could have used a bit more polish on the script and it would have gotten three stars, but the concept alone doesn't fit the theme of Futurama and no one wants to visualize another entanglement with Zap and Leela, while Fry is supposedly still dating her.

This was a horrible episode and I never want to see it again. Family Guy humor, which I hate, is in this episode. This was terrible for the Fry and Leela relationship get up too. The plot was not well written and seemed rushed. Also, there is no sub plot to this episode. It's just Zap and Leela the whole thing through basically. The character's personality's have been awful this season and definently Leela's has been the worst. What happened to the take no crap beat em up mean old Leela????? She was funny and cool. For now, I will only watch the old season episodes when i watch Futurama while i try to cover my eyes from this new pitiful garbage that toke no time and quality to come up with. Who knows, maybe it would of been better if the show would of stayed canceled because this is clearly worse then it being canceled.

This was the first of season 5 I have seen - having missed Rebirth and Australia has not released these on dvd yet...

I simply wish I could unsee it. I have watched Season 1-4 (and the movies) until my DVDs have worn out and no episode is as rubbish as this piece of manure. I wstched this twice just to be fair and it just makes me angry that Groening and Cohen would allow this to be made. That wasn't Leela and Zapp! They were written completely out of character - She wouldn't have gone along with his advances and he would have shown more bravado and tried to talk his way out when he was busted. He wasn't this snivelling when he got kicked out of DOOP or even when he was trying to get some action in the first series. It was like watching the Mummy 3 all over again. Hasn't this writer ever seen an episode??

If this is what I can expect from the new episodes. Then maybe fox was right to can it when they did. Former number 1 fan.

Haven't read all comments, but it seems a lot of people missing the point. It's perfectly obvious zap is dreaming during the whole episode which is indicated by the last black and white scene. So actually there is no confusion about inconsistency because it's all his imagination.

Of course this episode is not as good as amazon women in the mood but every episode with zap is a win ;)

Wow, what's with all the hate? It wasn't the best episode ever, but I actually thought it was one of the stronger ones of the season. Lot's of great lines from Zapp especially.

And here it is: The single worst episode Futurama ever created. People who dislike episodes are usually dismissed as "haters" around here (which is ironic, because the negative reviews are usually much more well-written and explain clearly what seemed wrong with the episode). I never hated a Futurama episode. Yo Leela Leela was dull and with the music scenes hard to watch. But I didn't hate it, I just didn't like it at all. This one however is different. Yes, this is the one Futurama episode I hate.

Sadly, this could have been a decent episode (decent, not great). The Zapp b-movie-ish cartoon strips were funny. The chamber of understanding was great. Zapp himself usually is funny. However, in this episode he's not. He is portrayed as a manipulating, self-pitying wimp. That's not how I see him. I see him as a wimp who is dellusional about just that - which is the very thing that makes him funny.

Here however, he tricks Leela into having sex with him. Since when is he that smart? Since when does he accept that he won't score with Leela under normal circumstances?

But now a much more important question: Why does Leela not even hesitate the slightest bit when that lame V-Giny thing (yes, I get the references) wants them to have sex for some illogical reason? In the last episode, even if it was flawed, there was a lot of emotional development between Fry and Leela. And now she just has sex with the man she despises IN FRONT OF HIM? Did the writer of this episode actually see a Futurama episode before?

Add to that lines like "this seems like a good place to take a dump" and I'm out. Thank God the other episodes of this season weren't as awful, but this one still caused a lot of damage.

Bizarre, stuttering plot randomly interspersed with Zapp Brannigan shorts that ends kind of...rape-ily. The idea of V-GINY being a pervert is clever, but no matter how you frame it, the episode ends with Leela and Zapp being forced to have sex or else they'll be killed. I just...what?

No episode of Futurama has ever been this disjointed or unpleasant. Even The Cryonic Woman doesn't really come close. There are funny moments in it, but I feel dirty after watching it.

A weak episode in the "transition" phase to Comedy Central in which the writers are having too much fun suddenly being able to get away with more "edgy" material than on Fox than actually writing the episode well. Zapp is still funny and in classic form here, but that's about it. Everything else is shock value over quality humor.

I though rebirth was okay. Don't get me wrong, it had some serious problems, but it was understandable considering they had to conclude an entire movie. This one was just...bad.

The sex jokes were out of control, which is okay if done well, but didn't seem necessary and weren't all that funny. The leela/zap part at the end didn't bother me too much, but for people who really love the fry/leela stuff I can see how it would upset them. That was a really big part of the original run and they just kind of threw it under the rug.

Overall, it was bad. A few funny moments, but it was almost like the writers were disrespecting the show.

Season 7 gets off to a rocky start, but eventually refinds is classic groove. One of the best things about Futurama is that they put the characters first, and the gags second. Having Leela and Zapp hook up in this episode is bad writing, and an insult to the established storyline. It would have made more sense for Leela to let the Earth be destroyed rather than ever sleep with Zapp again.

Good lord... I have never seen so much hate for an episode that isn't really afraid to step out of its comfort zone. First off, yes - In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela is crude, it's silly, but also, it's mature. Much like how The Simpsons have done it themselves (Natural Born Kissers) and the episode has been well received, I don't see why is it that people now have to take out the hate on Futurama. Cartoon nudity and maturity is a good thing. Yes, I get the V-GINY, Poopiter and "That world that can't be mentioned in polite company" jokes have turned off a majority of people, but you have to remind yourself that Futurama, much like The Simpsons and South Park, per se -- is a cartoon made for adults. And if that's what they were going for here, they ticked every mark. It's raunchy. It's crude. But it's also funny.

...and that being said however, it is not without multiple flaws, so now it's time to address the elephant in the room.

This episode, by far, has the worst characterization of Zapp Brannigan and partially even Leela. First off, while Zapp is known for being a dumb, rather clumsy and incompetent character, in this episode his character is completely destroyed. He is now a shallow and pathetic version of his former self - literally being afraid of Leela and not even trying to make her feel like he cares. Like, come on! He has a legitimate crush on her, so why couldn't he have said it normally? Even if Leela were to slap him for saying it, at least he would take the risk! And the fact Leela was slowly falling in love with him and forgetting about Fry was almost would've made this episode an abomination, but luckily the 3rd act made it up with Leela standing up and showing her commanding aura once again. And while many despised the ending, I found it ok and fitting given its mature context.

So it's basically a 50/50 episode, but I lean more towards positive here and it provided enough laughs despite its terrible characterization of a loveable anti-hero, so 6/10 it is.
