I was skeptical, but this episode really seemed to catch the spirit of the old series. A brilliant idea with some great moments. I even laughed, particularly at "That was the old me. He's dead now."

I was likely going to be biased since I love anything time travel related, but I will officallly say this with no shame....THIS IS THE BEST FUTURAMA EPISODE EVER!!!! There's nothing about this episode I don't like. I loved all the jokes, the references to THE TIME MACHINE, the Planet Express scenes with everyone getting older, and Leela's message to Fry.....again, THE BEST FUTURAMA EPISODE EVER!!!

In Futurama their are some episodes that are below average. I would say this was the case with the first five episodes of the season. However, something happened with Lethal Inspection. Suddenly, this was an episode that was not only good but close to the classics and the old Futurama.

Well this episode was awesome. In fact this was a classic. This is definitely one of the best episodes of Futurama period. In fact this is the best episode of Season 6 and possibly one of the best episodes ever made on Futurama. It might even be the best episode of Futurama! This was definitely the Emmy shot! Throughout this season I felt like Futurama was a lost cause then something happened with Lethal Inspection. The show was suddenly good. Then this very positive/classic bombshell is dropped on our heads. I'm still trying to take in everything I had just seen. Their are so many things that worked in The Late Phillip J. Fry. The allusions to earlier episodes, the explanation of the Big Bang, the Professor shooting Hitler and then Eleanor Roosevelt, the different periods of Earth, the older Leela getting Fry's letter and finally the emotional payoff at the end. I'm flat out amazed with this episode. Futurama is without a doubt back! 10/10

(In the top five episodes of Futurama. Also, why didn't this be one of the feature films! Oh well. As the Professor states, "A man can dream.... A man can dream....")

Absolutely beautiful episode, the best of the season and one of the best of the series. I was eagerly anticipating this one and it did not disappoint. It was touching and visually stunning, and though it was not the biggest laugh riot of the series, it has a vibe similar to other trippy episodes (like, say, "The Sting"). In a word, it was brilliant.

Just admit it: the actual season is the best season of all seasons! Don't deny it, it's a fact!

Being a fan from the day the very first episode aired the very first time, I'm glad to see that the series is leaving the juvenile, brainless, gross humor behind and returning to what makes Futurama great. This one and the last one were fantastic and I hope the current trend continues. I almost gave up on the show after seeing "Attack of the Killer App," but I'm glad I stuck with it.

This could possibly be the best Futurama episode of all time. Magnificent storyline, visuals, and animation. I missed Zoidberg's whooping! haha "The claws just don't flea like they used to." I couldn't have been happier with this episode, jokes were on the spot, and had that right balance of drama and comedy that are in the rarer Futurama episodes like "The Sting", or "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings". This is one of my favorite Futurama episodes of this season and all time.

I hate to rain on the parade of 5 star reviews, but I couldn't disagree more with people who are saying this is "classic" Futurama. What am I missing? I watch the old episodes constantly and I have seen NOTHING in this new season that even resembles the quick, fun humor we saw in "The Deep South", "The Problem with Popplers", "Amazon Women in the Mood", "Parasites Lost", etc. -- just to name a few which I consider to be the "classic" episodes off the top of my head. Futurama was not originally this emotionally manipulative (and pretty bad at it in my opinion)-- it was a hysterically funny and smart show with wild plot lines and characters. Now those fun characters have been replaced with whiny, emo versions who have become more annoying to watch each week as they find a new problem to complain about. I'm sorry guys, Futurama as I know it seems to be dead.

Definitely a superb episode. I agree with that everyone is saying about how 'Futurama is back'. Watching this episode gave a great buzz - my favorite laugh out loud moments were when Bender stepped on the first fish to walk and when the professor eased the time machines control lever down slowly, slowly, slow.... then slipped. This was a good episode: Loved all the H. G. Wells, Planet of the Apes, and Self References.

In a way though I think this one was really written for the fans, not just as a story in it's own right.

Yes, you need to be at least a partial sci-fi nerd to get most of it and a dedicated Futurama fan to get the rest. It's almost as though this episode was a bit too self-indulgent.

And it was nice to see a 'travel-forward-in-time machine' as opposed to the 'wa-bac' in Bender's Big Score.

We are always pleased to see Morbo. Hail our overlords.

The characters were on, nice to hear Leela do a 'hiiii-ya' even if Katy and Billys voices aren't exactly the same as they were ten years ago (it happens, they're still great IMO).

The animation was beautiful.

The ending, PERFECT Futurama.

This is in my top 33% but not in the top 10%.

My only problem with this episode is that they have now set the bar fairly high and I don't want to see any episodes fail. So, I will hope that they find a way to create episodes that are at least adequate compared to this. Decent humor, great story. I always love the more philosophical and adventures episodes. Best joke was probably the bit about the new universe being 10 feet 'lower', whatever that could mean.

Great episode, seems like they are getting over that pacing problem what they had in first episodes, this one felt like it wont end never( and i mean thats good thing cos some earlier eps in this season felt very short cos they was less compact tha this and there were "empty space" in those eps). Story was great, visuals were great, no huge popculture references (except this timetravel thing and future dweller who had been divided in two, wasnt it inspired by that classic book) which is big plus.

Easily one of the best episodes of Futurama ever! The episode was funny, but what makes it stand out is the time-travel storyline. I loved catching all the past Futurama references, as well as the changes of history throughout time travel. The animation was beautiful, and the whole thing was well written and Emmy worthy.

Not only was the episode exciting and full of good jokes, but the emotional aspect of Leela missing Fry was also very touching. The message that she leaves for him is tearjerker worthy, as Fry realises he has to move on and accept that he had a great life with her, was kind of a happy-sad moment. Despite realising that the whole universe was in a repeated time-loop, it was nice to end the episode with Fry reaching on-time for the date with Leela. Overall, a solid 5 out of 5, and by far the best episode of this season so far!

Okay... WOW! I have been less judgemental lately on Futurama. I now judge this series as separate to the original series, as I find it is clearly amazing they are able to come together and produce a show after so many years. I never wanted to be disapointed. But now, this episode has raised the bar. This episode is of Futurama 1999 - 2003 quality. It combines humour, heart and thought together. The characters felt like themselves. I am impressed. Thankyou guys for acknowledging the Fry and Leela relationship and thanks for combining two different stories at the same time. Only thing missing now is a DELIVERY! But I can't complain:) Futurama is back!

Excellent plot, very cleverly thought out. I always admire the futurama episodes that have a cleverly thought out plot. I admired Bender's big score for all the time paradoxes, and I admire this for the time aspect, and it's take on history, evolution, the distant future, the universe, and so forth. And obviously some great jokes in here too, namely Farnsworth shooting Hitler.

Seth Macfarland here. You may know me as the creator of Family Guy. Futurama has been quite an inspiration of me over the years. I'm a HUGE Sci-fi fan. I have a passion for films like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Star Gate.

This episode inspired me to do another time travel episode. Maybe Peter will accidently go foward in time. Imagine what it would be like seeing Quohog in 500 years. Will it be futuristic or a wasteland ruled by Stewie? Possible scenario will have Brian actually. Peter from the past would go in Stewie's private sanctuary full of gay men and finds out Stewie comes out of the closet. From there on, Stewie will try and kill Peter.

Excellent episode that really captures the spirit of Futurama. It had everything--love, humor, sci-fi, and even references to "The Time Machine." Episodes like these, that reveal the secrets of the universe, but also contain more down-to-earth stories and humor, are the reasons why Futurama goes above and beyond. P.S. The Professor really shines in this one.

There we have it. The best episode of season 6 so far, the first episode to be better than the movies. Wonderful. This episode features the best concept in Futurama's entire history (something I used to say about Roswell that Ends Well) and whilst its execution of the concept isn't as good as some other episodes, it's still pretty sublime work. This episode is a science fiction epic, it's another brilliant entry into the Fry and Leela saga and it's the funniest episode of season 6 so far which evens out to make it one of the best episodes in the entire history of Futurama. I have very little to say which means I have very little to complain about, meaning that they got it pretty much spot-on. When I ranked the episodes to figure out what rating to give this, it sat between my favourite 9/10 episode and my least favourite 10/10 episode, so I thought I'd round up and give it a 10. Oh, and there's a hilarious musical number which I wasn't expecting.

To me, this was the first satisfying episode of the season. I didn't really understand the excitement over last week's episode, but this one was very good. Superb episode. I like that they have furthered the relationship between Fry and Leela but at the same time it worries me. When you think about it some of the best episodes came from Fry's pursuit of Leela (e.g. Parasite's Lost, Time Keeps on Slippin, The Why of Fry, The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings, etc.). These episodes had some of the best humor, emotion, and pacing of the entire series and once their relationship passes a certain threshold these types of classic episodes are gone forever. I like where the new dynamic this season has taken their relationship but at the same time I worry we'll never get to see episodes like that again

Mind-blowing concepts, excellent humor, animation, characterization, and storytelling. Leave it to Futurama to begin an episode about Fry being late, and end it with the universe exploding and reforming...twice! Beautiful study of Fry/Leela's relationship, mixed with some great gags about the future of our world and of the PE crew.

Best of the season, and a top 10 episode!

I thought that this episode was absolutely fantastic and to the person who gave it 1, shame on you, this is one of many great episodes still to come. There were mant moments i found hiarious, especially bender getting even with the professor and fry, haha classic lol moment. The professor shooting hitler too, i was like whoa, wtf? This is a hilaious episode, im so glad i got to watch this. Usually i dont like time travel episodes but a one way time machine was a great idea and the only way to get back to their time was to relive the big bang twice haha. Very pleased with this episode, it's exactly the kind of Futurama I'd been missing and wanted more of. Great concept, well told, good jokes (Elzar's "Bam" brought a smile to my face), good pacing, interesting climax and resolution. Some really good animation and design, good use of characters, felt fresh, but still felt like Futurama. A bit of emotion, but not forced and not too self aware of that fact. I did think afterwards they'd managed to go back in time before, but not to matter. This is the first episode of the new run I'd happily put alongside the original run, in fact even above some of the original run...

Futurama is finally getting back on track. I feel the best part of the episode, along with the amount of emotion put into the writing, was all the sci-fi gags that were packed into each episode. There were some nice subtle jabs at the science-fiction genre as well as including concepts like when the Earth dies and the universe collapses. It was an all-around smart episode and it certainly makes up for the second and third episode this season. =)

Humorous? Not very.
Touching? Not very.
Thought-prokoving? Very.
Stunning? Very.

Halfway through, I was expecting a repeat of the Cryonic Woman. (This isn't really the future!) Instead, we get one of the most stunning visual sequences in animation history. Funny jokes, VERY clever story. Surely another great Emmy contender for the show.*spoiler* The fact that finding a point in the history of the universe is like setting an alarm clock was hilariously clever.*end spoiler*

I can't help feeling that this episode wasn't as good as it thought it was. Very ambitious, and that's a good thing; but it leaves a gaping hole when reality fails to match it. Some of the humour was ruined, for me, by Garfield syndrome (first you tell the joke, then you ram the punchline down the audience's throat in case they missed it the first time), some of the throwbacks felt a bit tacked-on, and I feel like the writers bit off more than they could chew with regard to plot & character development. Still, it's nice to see them aiming high, and there were certainly some good moments.

Easily the best episode of the new season and the movies =).

I've been very critical of the 'rebirthed' series, but this one harkens back to the 'old' days. The season has been getting stronger as it goes along and I'm now very optimistic about the continuation of the series and looking forward to the next episode.

Didn't think I'd say that after watching the putrid first 4 episodes =).

Great nod to Jules Verne's Time Machine, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the song was highly entertaining, Hitler bit had me cracking up, and some character development. Thought it was a bit too mushy with the cavern message but oh well =).

I am pondering about never watching Futurama again. Seriously.

This cartoon has given me more entertainment than any other show I ever have followed. I have seen every single Futurama episode at least 10 times, But in reality I'm trying to lower the number so that I don't seem to have no life :D .

Every episode has been quirky, and different in it's own special way. Some were better, some were genial (the sting), and some were there to pass time.

And so I watch this one and decide to stop watching Futurama. To me this episode can't be surpassed, it sucked me in like a giant black hole while I wished that the ride would go on for 3 hours. It literally gave me chills for the last 10 minutes, that's how good it was.

This feeling I have only had once before in my life (when watching a movie), from Braveheart, when the boy receives a rose from the girl as he stands at his father's grave, and when Mel Gibson shouts "Freedom" in the end.

That has never been surpassed for me in movies, and this episode will in all likelihood never be surpassed by a superior Futurama part down the line. This is it for me with this show.

Thanks for the makers of all episodes, and for the ones that made this one, I give infinity over 10. Unbelieavable uniqueness, creativity, charm.

I generally havent agreed with how the other episodes this season have been ranked - I thought Killer App, and Proposition Infinity were far better than Rebirth... Meanwhile In-A-Gadda-De-Leela was so horrible it doesnt deserve the 54% its got at the moment.

I can say I totally agree with the 90%+ rating this episode has. It was brilliant, one of the best ever. Thanks to the futurama team for the high production quality, writing, jokes, animation etc thats been melded together to perfection. I know I cant expect the rest of the season to be up to the same standard, and even if no other episode comes close, season 7 has been worth it for The Late Phillip J Fry alone.

The simple small moments really make this one of the best episodes ever. Those moments where a character says nothing at all, but you feel everything they feel. Bender has no legs at about 9 minutes in, at the "blood thirsty shrimp scene." Or scene 53 of 125 on the screen grabs.

I don't know if anyone pointed this out yet but, the book that Bender burns in the year 10,000 with the alien language on it is titled "Backwards Time Travel Made Easy"

Great episode. though I wonder why Leela can't seem the say the words "I love you" to Fry (even in a message)yet.

As a faithful viewer since 1999 and after multiple rewatchings of every episode of Futurama, I have determined that The Late Philip J. Fry is my favorite episode of all time. The last seven minutes are simply beautiful. The music is especially awe-inspiring, accompanying the amazing visuals seamlessly. The entire episode was sheer perfection. I've never watched anything with a bigger smile on my face. Hope it wins the Emmy!

First of all, what consists of a "real fan"? I have watched this show for 10 years now and know each episode by heart. I am a fellow nerd on PEEL and this website, is that enough. That being said, I am not a hater but I do not like this episode. People have different tastes in what they find amusing. I for one did not find this episode amusing outside of a few jokes. It is one of the most boring episodes of this season for me. It is funny to see all the people calling out "the haters" without themselves actually listing why they liked the episode themselves.

As for my opinion on the episode I found it to be great in some spots, and really boring and even frustrating in others. I think the Fry/Leela relationship is just frustrating this season because they are going back and forth. I also thought a few of the recycled jokes were off putting. But then of course it had some brilliant and fun moments and an original, thought provoking plot.

Truly this season's brilliant episode. The Late Phillip J Fry is a stand out knock-out of an episode taking place in the mid section of a mediocre season. To put it in short terms would be to congratulate it for its time traveling plot, its not overdone humor, and its dramatic overtones. To put it more deeply would require deep comparison with other episodes in its like, such as The Why of Fry and Time Keep's on Slipping.

The basic plot is that Fry, who can't seem to do anything right, gets sucked into the future. From there, Bender, Fry, and the Professor must find a way to get back to their own time. The time traveling song is among the best songs in the series, the different possibilities for futures were not entirely wasted, and the resolution is wholly satisfying, if not a little rushed.

Overall, the best episode of season 6/7, and one of the best episodes period.

Rating 5, both because it absolutely was a 5-episode and was initially what brought back hope that Futurama was *really* back for me.

To the dishonest douchebags who are rating 1 and 2 for reasons that have nothing to do with their opinion of the episode: Cut it out, pricks. Your bias is essentially destroying the whole point of these ratings, which is to accurately gauge, in a fair way, how much each episode was liked.

It doesn't matter if this is *your* favorite episode. Rate it accurately, and accept that the community's opinion doesn't have to match yours.

Without a doubt, this was the best episode of season 6A. To me, the humor in this particular episode is irrelevant because the tone was certainly more emotional (although there was some good humor). Was it the best Futurama episode ever? Not quite. 'The Sting' and 'Devil's Hands' are better 'Fry and Leela' episodes in my opinion. Yet this one did come very close to the brilliance of those episodes. Unfortunately, this was the last of the heartwarming episodes for the season (Cold Warriors and Overclockwise have not aired as of now) which is somewhat of a disappointment as I have always felt that Futurama's emotional episodes really help balance out the show. Overall, this episode shows that the Futurama magic is still there...somewhere. I just hope it comes out more often.

In terms of the new run of Futurama, this rises head and shoulders above all the new episodes by a long shot. No other episode comes this close to recapturing the brilliance of the original series.

That being said, I think the rating is a little too high. Don't get me wrong, this episode was REALLY good, just wasn't as good as the best of the best. To me, 'The Sting' is an episode that tries to convey the same kind of emotion here, just does it a little better in my opinion. Plus the bees were more unique; time travel has been done too much.

All in all, I hope for more episodes like this one. It definitely deserved the emmy it got, and more importantly it reminded us and Futurama still has heart. I'm only giving it a 4 to balance out the 5's, since I still don't think it's the best of the series

Very rarely is unanimous gushing praise for a form of media entirely deserved. But this is one of those cases that deserves all the love it gets. Just a brilliant half-hour of ambitious story, great heart, hilarious gags, some surprisingly touching emotion, and top-notch sci-fi wackiness. Best. Episode. Ever. It had everything that was good, and not much at all that was bad about "new Futurama".

If you didn't like it, you're a communist.

Fry, Farnsworth, and Bender fast forward through the future/history of the universe. I didn't know the universe was cyclical.

The year 10^10^10^56 AD would be the end of the universe; so, technically, Fry, Bender, and Professor Farnsworth are 2x10^10^10^56 years old since there are infinite Cyclical Universes.
