Thought it was very good. After Act 2, I looked at my husband and was like, 'this is intense!' Lots of good references, some I got, some I didn't. The ending was there this week, but not perfect. I loved the Johnny stuff! Wished Al Gore had played Lando though, tee hee. :)

This has got to be one of the worst episodes of this season, although it's not as bad as "Yo Leela Leela" it wasn't good either.
It's the WRITERS fault, the characters behavior is FORCED, not believable, and the story is boring, it's like the writers are not even trying anymore, this is not the same Futurama I fell in love with. The first 5 episodes of this season were good but it went down hill after that.

Holy Sci-fi, Batman!

When I had first read the synopsis of this episode way back ago, I was excited. It was a Sci-Fi plot like no other. Sure enough, this episode delivered. It was fun, had a great plot, and was good for some solid laughs.
10/10.

Also, I loved Fry saying 'Poop' in the 4th dimension.

Not perfect, but probably the best of the season so far.

The story was great. Lots of adventure and physicsy sci-fi. I also liked the relatively dark tone.

Most of the humor was decent.

However, as someone already pointed out, some of the character behavior seemed a bit forced, especially Leela's 'obsession'.

I really liked this one. Loads of references, and great one-liners. A white whale that exhails (or: blows!) beautiful Mandelbrots in beautiful outer space colors. Homeless Depot. A popular Zoidberg! A big crew at mission control. ELO's flying saucer. Dr. Who. Sailor Moon!

We're space aliens, it's a miracle we can even speak English!

I could marry you and Bender against your will, if I wanted to.

That's it! I warned you. Fry, Zoidberg, I now pronounce you man and [uch!]

Leela, we need to talk! You've come from crazy like a fox, to crazy like Fox News!

Worst Episode Ever.

Sadly, it had all: Classical setting, funny ideas, inside jokes, etc...
..but by writing Leela so out of character, they created a flaw so big it did ruin the rest (at least for me)

Leela's similarity with Ahab was the rank "Captain", and that's all. Writers should not go for classics like Moby Dick when they do not have the proper characters available...

Episodes like this make me wonder if whoever wrote it has ever actually watched Futurama. Since when does Leela want to kill animals? I kept waiting for her to have a change of heart and make peace with the whale, which could have led to a wholly different storyline. Also, two of the original crew are back, and that was never resolved, along with the ship being destroyed. And why would Hermes go on a delivery if his job is to be a bureaucrat? The whole episode was another one that was very un-Futurama and seemed I guess "pointless" is the word that comes to mind. The only part that made me laugh was Fry's line about coming to a spaceship graveyard at night. I'm giving it a 2 because I reserve ratings of 1 to episodes that actually make me feel ill.

This was simply awesome, in fact quite captivating, especially the space whale scenes. It had so many great lines, and the animation was sublime. The story was totally clool and right up my street, it was exactly what I was hoping for, and it felt like the real deal Futurama. It felt like what I'd imagine Futurama would have been like had it never been cancelled. The whole middle part of the episode and dialogue interplay was classic Futurama, so many great jokes and one liners. The characters all working together and playing off each other...

Now the elements that let it down slightly; the old Planet Express building being surrounded by greenery? It wasn't that long ago, so it was kind of unbelievable. I guess I can let it slide a bit seeing as it's all past memories, but still. Did Dr Zoidberg used to have teeth? In that old scene it looked like he did, or was that an animation goof? Also, at the end where the space whale appeared on Earth, why didn't the gravity pull it down straight away? Is it because it's four dimensional?...

Aside from those few niggling issues this was amazing, loved the Sci-Fi vibe and I wish more eps could be like this. The Lost joke was awesome, and seeing the old crew was pretty interesting. I loved it when Amy harpooned the whale, and then there was no further plan. Also the space walk was great. Leela's character didn't really bother me if I'm honest. This I feel is one of those episodes that you know is special as you're watching it, and when it ends it stays with you just like the best Futurama episodes. Therefore I give it...

I've been waiting a long time for another true 'Delivery-Gone-Sideways' episode and I was not disappointed. The density of jokes really ratcheted up for this one, almost as tightly spaced as Law and Oracle- in some spots, more so. Another instant classic, and a reminder of how good this show gets.

They got creative with the '4th dimensional' aspect of the whale, which was nice- I wasn't sure if it was going to be 'sci-fi because why not' or 'we're going somewhere'.

Good to see more of Zoidberg being written like Zoidberg, good to see Leela being written more like Leela.

This show is a lot of fun with the core three, and with the ensemble, and it's nice to see the fundamentals back after all the new mixes in 6a.

In short, this hit all the right spots. Same time next week?

This wasn't an awful episode (the only worse ones I can think of would be Duh-Vinci Code or the Holiday one), but it was far from deserving so many 5's. It seemed very forced and there was not enough explanation as to why Leela was suddenly so out of character and, frankly, annoying as hell.

Still, it had a bunch of great references and one-liners, and Scruffy's jab at the writing at the end was hilarious.

Not horrible, but certainly not "clasic futurama," unless you are comparing to A Leela of Her Own (also a bad Leela-centric ep)

Didn't like this one for a number of reasons:
- Pacing was bad in this one. Its been an issue since the beginning of season 6.
- I fail to understand why the Planet Express crew is always going on missions with the original trio. Besides Farnsworth and Zoidberg there were very few instances where they tagged a long. Really the only one that should be tagging a long is Zoidberg. This group never went on suicide missions before and now they do. I don't know why this is and an explanation would be nice.
-Why was the Planet Express in the countryside? Shouldn't it be in New New York? Was it relocated?
- The plot seemed off. A whale with a human pilot driven by obsession. I understand the reasoning but I don't get the point.
- Finally, I don't like the new staffwriting. No major pop culture jokes were a plus but I don't like the plots of the new writers. Next season, David X. Cohen stated that future episodes will be popcentric. That makes me groan. The new staff writing is the the biggest problem besides pacing. (TLPJF and POB were written by the veterans not the new writers.)
- I know some people dig this episode but I don't. So I apologize for the list of complaints for people that like this episode. It's too bad. It feel like this episode had the workings of a classic. Worst episode of the season for me. 2/5

That episode kicked so much ass! But Leela should have gutted the Whale herself, oh well I guess everyone else did at the end.

Oh and Leela should of randomly had her shock collar on again from the 3rd dvd movie, it would have been a nice little nod to the fact that she still had it on in the last shot.

Zoidberg: Oh Leela we never totally resolved this collar bussiness.

zoidberg snaps her collar back around her neck.

Leela: Zoidberg!!

Zoiby: Woop woop woopp wwooooppp!

Then she could of shocked the whale into submission or something.

Oh well!

@James 2 (#52) and some others:
Oh, for Pete's sake, it's a cartoon! A hand drawn bit of comedy! Does everything has to be explained in full detail? So what that the Planet Express is in the country side?! Did it matter to the story? So Leela behaved a little different than usual. It's a PLOT DEVICE people! Otherwise this episode would go nowhere! If Leela just shrug her shoulders, saying 'Oh Lord...', then we didn't have a story, and a darn fine one at that!

I for one enjoyed the splendid animation (it was noticeable better than usual) and LOLed at the many (cultural) references. Oh sorry, both these comments didn't influence the story telling. Because it doesn't matter!

So I enjoyed this one and therefor ...

Great on almost all accounts. 4-D Space whale was great; seeing the early days of Planet Express was a great expansion of mythos; And best of all, it was funny. I didn't feel the ending was all that rushed this time, either. Swift, but satifsying.

My only complaint that if they wanted to really focus on Leela to be so obessed with her job then they should have spent a little bit more time establishing that, and what made her suddenly so serious. She's serious about her job but she's also usually laid back. Maybe they could have had a short scene where she thinks about all of Farnsworth's dead crews and realizes she hasn't done much with her life and she puts more effort into doing her job to accomplish stuff. I don't know.

I REALLY enjoyed this episode though. It was just a shade away from greatness.

Excellent episode. True to form. All characters were utilized and had funny classic quotes "10, 9 and so on, 3, 2, 1!". Tickle me Elmo's fire was awesome too! Nice pacing. Leela was a little out of character because she was mimicking the traits of Captain Ahab from Moby Dick, the story the episode was parodying. This seems extremely obvious, but people seem to be confused as to why she was irregular. Probably just grabbing at excuses to not like the episode.

On a side note, there's no pleasing some people! This could have been their favorite episode before the cancellation, but since it's new they feel have to trash it. I guess some people just like the image of being the guy who "gets it" while everyone else doesn't. At least give an excuse for a poor rating! Pathetic!

This episode was intense. I could NOT figure out where it was going and I really like that.

My friend and I were watching and said "this would be a wild episode to watch while stoned" and suddenly the 4th dimension gags came on and we lost it.

They do need to lay off Leela a bit for the rest of the season (I know, it's already written and made so that's not helpful) because she's had a lot of focus lately.

Loved Zoidberg this episode most of all. I have HIGH hopes for Tip of the Zoidberg.

Im still getting over Yo Leela Leela and hoping to God whoever wrote it gets demoted to the page enumeration intern. However, I think this one is an excellent, eerieish episode with a clever ending, well-paced, with many scientific allusions and inside jokes, and overall fairly humorous (although I do hate the stupid jokes like the popsicle guy).

And so many old fabled spaceships of the past! And Firefly! And Zoidberg used to be popular! And Leela is so cute when she is obsessed, gently tapping off (instead of brutally massacring) the inquisitive tentacles that was touching, really. In both ways. I also liked the fractal vapor the whale exudes, and the constant fish/mammal/serpent debate. (IT IS A MAMMAL!)

Whatever happened to the ships unbreakable diamond tether? :( I mean, do the writers assume that continuity can just go to hell? Nobody remembers anything by the next episode, do they? Scruffy never stayed a woman, Zoidberg sure wont have any hair by the next episode. *sigh*

What the hell is the joke about puncturing the ship with a pin causing decompression? Thats just stupid. I mean, its not (supposed to be) made of tin.

Overall, excellent.

This is by far the worst episode of the year, I really can't understand the 5 rating. The episode started out good with the Professor telling the story, and Zoidberg's hair, but it went way down hill from there. At no point were the one liner's funny, and I agree with a previous poster's point of Fry. Fry has always been dumb, but they are making him flat our retarded and unfunny, as Robert Downy Jr. stated: "you should never go full-retard." I've liked this season, just not this episode.

Overall a good episode. Some great visuals and good gags...I have to say Zoidberg has been one of the stars for me this series.
Many of the Moby Dick references were lost on me, but I didn't feel I was lacking.

The downside that gets this episode 4 stars instead of 5 was the random nature of Leela's personality. I was just too jarring a change. It would be like Homer Simpson becoming really hard working in an episode, with no explanation as to why. Just a bit too jarring.

This really felt like a Futurama episode, with actual concern for the characters and the weird sci-fi plot over throw-away culture reference gags.

But I'm taking off a star for the writer's amnesia -- The Day the Earth Stood Stupid is also based on Moby Dick, and in that episode, it's Fry's favorite book. That should have come up at some point!

In my opinion this was one of the worst this season. The jokes seemed forced, the story line was weak and some of the voice acting was annoying.

This is one of the best episodes since Futurama returned. As others have said, Leela was out of character and things got excessively crazy in the second half but it was a strong episode with creative use of scientific theories. It was also nice to have an episode that wasn't filled with adult humour.

I was about to give up on Futurama but if they create more episodes like this than I may keep watching.

Really lame. They even resorted to a FOX News joke. Seriously. I mean, "take that, people who think differently from me!"

Easily one of the best episodes since the rebirth. This one was distinctly Futurama in sci-fi subject matter and humor.

Overrated as hell episode. The set up was great, it truly had a good sci-fi feel. However, about half way into the episode you can see the writers lost their ideas when Leela randomly becomes obsessive. This idea of obsession would have worked if it were really hinted at beforehand that she was indeed obsessive, but instead in this episode it seemed forced. The fourth dimension part was also kind of stupid, as it really didn't bring anything new to the table except some lame jokes about sentences being uttered backwards. The ending itself was also very stale, it just seems like they can't figure out how to end episodes this season.

Overall entertaining but not brilliant. No need for the whole cast bar Farnsworth to get the statue! Did enjoy seeing the original crew and Zoidy getting some love.

A decent episode, elevated a few notches thanks to some brilliant hints of sci-fi. The 4-dimensional space-whale's mobius-digestive system as well as the 4th dimension itself were all wonderful touches.
A common complain about this episode is that Leela acts out of character. I completely disagree. She's completely within character (she's been shown to have hypocritical beliefs, violent tendancies and an obsessive nature in several past episodes) but, I do feel that her character is reduced to something quite two-dimensional here. That's probably what most people are picking up on and refering to as her being "out of character".
Still, that's a minor problem in an otherwise strong episode with good humour and ideas, and a nice, simple plot that works well.

It's far from being one of the greats, but I think the word 'solid' sums it up very well.

Not a huge fan of this episode as I found it to be light on laughs. The idea for the plot was quite good though I just wish they did more with it.

I have difficulty understanding the enthusiasm for this one. Above all, Leela was acting completely out-of-character to such a degree that it actually became ridiculous. Since the whole episode was about her, that drags the whole story down a lot. I also didn't like Zoidberg at all... he used to be funny by himself, now they have to make ridiculous character alterations in order to get cheap jokes like the Fonzie one out of him. I also don't get why a show set in the future has to make two major references to Moby Dick, in this case, a whole episode about that. That whole whale hunt sequence was forced and not credible at all. The popsicle salesman was really the only part that got a laugh out of me.

That was out of character in a good way. Leela was incredibly funny, the story was pretty big, the pacing also was great, didn't failed like in Overclockwise or Presidents' Heads. That scene with lost space ships was full of cameos. The best episode of season 7.

Mother of God. This is the best of the best. Everything Futurama should be. Hilarious lines, great plot, great animation, hilarious gags, sci-fi, nerdy, good music, movie-like feel, flashbacks. Need I say more?

I am watching a character named Leela recklessly put herself and her friends in danger and become obsessed with hunting down killing an animal.

What show is this, because this isn't Futurama...

One thing Futurama hasn't done enough of post-revival is the sci-fi emphasis. This episode had all that, plus a great story and great laughs. I didn't mind Leela's characterization much, as I think it's nice to see her NOT be the voice of reason for once. Only bit I was lukewarm about was the conclusion. Having the obsession become literal kinda killed the awesome sci-fi theme they had going on. Still quite good otherwise.

The episode was very good, but not incredible. I loved the 4th dimension scene and the episode was filled with great jokes throughout.
It was a little confusing (and not explained very well), but that seemed to be the intention.
