Easily the best of the series' four Zoidberg-centered episodes(five, if you consider "Silence of the Clamps"...but that was more Clamps-centered). Anyhow, great humor and nice use of the subtle new pieces of information such as Mom's real name. In fact, that subtle info-dropping has been a highlight this season. I think this episodes shows that Futurama's momentum is entirely back.

One of Futurama's wackiest episodes yet. I enjoyed this one due to the flashbacks of Farnsworth and Zoidberg, showing their friendship together and why Farnsworth kept him around. I also found the mishaps with Zoidberg and the crew funny, but the Murderator was the highlight of the episode, seeing the chain reaction of the device setting off slowly towards killing Farnsworth. The revelation of Farnsworth being a Yeti was unexpected, but it was nice to see Zoidberg being quite likable and mature in this one. I'll give this episode a 5/5.

I've been nervous about this one since I saw the synopsis. Zoidberg has always been my favorite character of the show (I even named my dog Zoidberg). I've been hoping for an episode that truly epitomizes his charming and zany characteristics, and TTotZ does it flawlessly, while managing to flesh him out and expand on his relationship with the professor!

It wasn't the funniest episode they've created, but it was immensely enjoyable and did a good job of telling a story and showing how unique this series is. 5 out of 5.

This episode epitomizes why we love this show and especially Zoidberg!! This was probably the 2nd best episode of this half of the season (just barely behind Law & Oracle) and will probably be remembered as one of the classics when it's all said and done. It got better after each segment and the climax with the Murdolator contraption was enjoying to watch.

Oh man, was this one subpar. Kept expecting a punchline with all those lines of dialogue, and got nothing good. And.....a yeti syndrome? These are the same people who gave us all those brilliant pre-cancellation episodes, and it's getting tough to remember that.

Lousy first half salvaged by a solid second.

The first act was a mess. Starting with the flashback was an interesting choice (I don't think the best one), but not terrible. But the extended sequence of Zoidberg "doctoring" was a wasted opportunity: the joke about Simpsons jaundice was reasonably funny, but the subsequent Garfield, Muppets, and Smurfs references were forced and out of place. Would it have killed the writers to have come up with even a barely plausible way that Leela, for example, could hop around talking without a spine? (For heaven's sake, just stick a piece of machinery on her body.) And the frequent cuts to flashbacks ruined the pacing and had no emotional heft since the professor's symptoms weren't established for far too long... so it never really coalesced.

The second half, though, was great. The Murderator was hilarious, Zoidberg got to demonstrate basic competence, and the ensemble had good lines without overstaying their welcomes. Everything was tied up neatly together, which was appreciated.

Meh... I'm with the review above me: the Simpsons reference was funny, the rest just took too long. But I think that also goes for the Murderator.
And indeed, no memorable one-liners in this one.

(I did check Wikipedia and yes, someone already added 'Carol' to Mom's bio!)

Liked the previous few episodes better, but I'm in a mild mood, so not a 3 but a 4. Okay?

I felt the grossness/violence level was a notch too high in this episode. I'm fine for dark humour but I'm squeamish when it comes to violence -- like I found Zoidberg's mistakes disturbing at the beginning, even though I know that was being played for laughs.

Despite that, the story itself was top-notch. It was interesting, shed light onto more backstory, and it was emotionally touching at times. I was deeply amused by the Murdilator although I was also pretty scared Farnsworth would get Murdilated grusomely and that would be his cure -- I'm glad they took the highroad and threw in some nice Yetism.

So yeah -- top notch episode. If some of the violence was toned down I would've given it a 5. I know alot of people won't agree, I understand; but it's a personal taste thing

it didnt ruin zoidy thankfully but it was just ok. fry's symptoms were funny, zoidberg trying to kill the prod while mr sandman played was great. two complaints mainly. why was amy yelling so much in this episode?! it was annoying. also, did mom really need to be involved? she seemed tacked on. like she's never seen zoidberg since then?! um...remember the whole 80s guy taking over planet express and selling it? they were all at the merger right in front of mom! its nitpicking i know but not following continuity had destroyed the simpsons. all in all, fair episode. i dont love it or hate it.

Throw in a non-Leela and/or Fry story...good idea.
This episode made the PlanEx crew look...a litttle psycho towards the end with the "Murdolator (TM)" (which was hilarious in itself) but I guess with all the hell Zoidberg put them through medically...
But the ending with Zoidberg and the Professor scuddling around was perfect.

I give it a 5.

I was really wondering about this episode, because I love Zoidberg, and I was afraid that this episode would mess the character up a bit...but it didn't!

I love that the professor pointed out that Zoidberg was an excellent ALIEN doctor, and just not that great with humans. In the commentary for Season 1, episode 2 David and co. mentioned that's what they wanted for Zoidberg. To be the opposite of McCoy (a human working on aliens.)

The surgery scene was a little unnecessarily graphic, but Bender's incontinence made up for it. IT was a really funny, sweet episode. One of the best of the season, imo. And it had an ending! Hooray!

This is one of the best Futurama episode since the return. I have been excited for this episode in a long time and it did not disappoint me.

There are so many great moments in this episode, Fry turning into different characters is one of them. Also lines like:

(Bender: "Okay, lets set it up and try it again..")

(Fransworth:"I saw how to do this in a movie! It was the same movie when I lost my virginity so i'm a bit fuzzy on the details!")

("Zoidberg: OH, it did turn him into a double yeti!")

There are many other great moments in the episode as well :) And I really like how we finally get to know how the proffesor and zoidberg first met. The story in general was great and really interessting! So, in two words: Awesome Episode!!

Loved this episode. I thought the hospital scene didn't need all the blood and it could have been funnier without it(remember the closing scene 'Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?'). I feel conflicted about this episode. It was really good, but it seemed very dark. There was a lot of blood and gore at the beginning (I suppose that's another one of the symptoms of being on cable now) and I didn't like how the characters were so quickly willing to murder each other. That was probably supposed to be funny in a shock-humor sort of way, but I find the combination of murder and humor to be disturbing.

The story about Zoidberg and the Professor was good and it was interesting to see that Zoidberg had a connection with Mom and such an exciting background. Who would have guessed that? I want to give it a 5, but the violence seemed to dumb it down to a teenage-boy level, which took away from an otherwise epic storyline, so I'll give it a 4.

Rachel gave 4 points

Not "overrated" per se, but some parts that were totally un-sci-fi did feel too cartoonish for Futurama.

I loved Futurama for how I was always able to find a plausible bias for things happening the way they did. As long as they were not too stretched.

But a person surviving having been cut in two? Among other things? Reeks too much of absurdism. Thanks, I've had all the Sartre/Camus/Kierkegard I can take in the university.

With that said, I will once again give this episode a 5 because the, unfortunately single-skinned, canopy did still have 7 cells like a good old accuracy canopy should have.

PLEASE PUT LEELA ON A VX 36! OR XAOS 67 AT LEAST, THAT'S WHAT I FLY!

I liked

-The back story
-Zoidberg's relationship with Farnsworth
-Zoidberg's relationship with Mom.

I didn't like
-Fry's health dilema with Zoidberg.
-How, the crew was so easily willing to kill each other.

And as Nostradamus predicted ...

Y'know, there ought to be a mechanism for the good folks at this site to ensure people can only leave one review each. The site could record IP addresses, they could have everyone sign in to leave reviews, et cetera. I realize this would be more work for whomever, but that would give us more accurate ratings than the ones on this and the previous season.

And in case you're wondering if it's possible to post more than once, this is my second post on this episode -- from the same computer at the IP address.

I've said it before: My hypothesis is many of these folks watched Futurama on Fox as kids and while the show itself hasn't really changed, they have. They mourn not the loss of a t.v. show, but rather their own youth.

Not a bad episode, in fact it was probably my favorite of season 6B. Personally, I think that this episode could have gone in a different direction. Pairing the professor and Zoidberg was a neat idea, and it reminded me of the other unexpected pairing of Hermes and Bender. This could have been the emotional episode that I feel 6B is lacking, and the ending was a little more eccentric than need be in my opinion. The Futurama craziness has certainly been present this season, and I thought a break from that would have been a nice touch (though Overclockwise will likely deliver in that sense). Overall, it wasn't bad, but it didn't quite match up to some of the better episodes in season 6A.

Not a huge fan of this one, it felt like a story which didn't need to be told. It didn't enrich the Futurama universe to me as I wasn't very keen on the concept/plot. Dr Zoidberg is usually funny, but not so much in this one despite him being the focus. Also, the illnesses felt too wacky to me, rather than funny. They felt like Mike Scully era Simpsons. The characters getting cut up and put back together as though they were some kind of robots is completely unrealistic. It stared with Hermes in Bender's big score, having his head removed and still talking. Fry's Simpsons ailment was o.k, but then they added more idiotic jokes.
The Farnsworth/Zoidberg back story might have been good if it was the whole episode.

Yet another episode where the characters voices sound far too literal. I really miss the much more subtle old episodes. I just can't place it perfectly, but something just feels totally off about these classic characters. I will get killed for saying this, but it's starting to feel like Simpsons in space.

The episode wasn't too bad, but i could have done without the stretched out diagnosis scene, and the yeti disease.

Wow there's a lot of curmudgeons out there who complained that this wasn't funny and was just a so-so episode. I thought this was by far the best episode in this season so far with a lot of hilarious detail that makes it well worth re-watching several times. True it was a little on the violent side and maybe didn't quite have the emotional impact of "The Late Philip J Fry" for example but it was still quite touching in places and confirmed my feeling that Zoidberg is by far the most lovable character in the show.

Wow! I can't understand how anyone can complain about this episode. This was easily the episode in a long time.

Ken Keeler is great. And this episode was teriffic.
And I'm usually a sceptic and a much bigger fan of the old futurama. But this was on par with old classic furuama episodes.

Zoidberg is not my favorite character, but he is getting good attention this season. This episode was ok but ended well. The "murderator" was awesome. My favorite line was Zoidberg : "I'll be damned he turned into a double yeti!" immediately after he said that wouldn't happen.

Solid episode. It's Zoidberg-centered, so it was hard for it not to be good in the first place. Some parts I didn't like at all. The medical scene at the beginning is such an example. I don't mind the blood, but I don't like the show completely abandoning reality and drifting into Family Guy-esque territory just to create laughs (Leela jumping around without legs, Hermes falling apart completely...). Fry turning into different comic figures made that even worse. The Simpsons one was somewhat funny, but after that it was just stupid and unnecessary.

Fortunately, it did become a lot better after that first awful scene. I liked the story in the flashbacks, even though they weren't as well integrated as for example in "The Luck of the Fryrish". Zoidberg trying to kill the Professor was very well done and the Murdulator (as anything that is even remotely related to Scruffy) was awesome. The end unfortunately wasn't. "Yetiism"? Really? And first Farnsworth becomes a "double Yeti" - which was kind of funny - and suddenly he's cured? And after that, they celebrate it by going tanning (I know, I know, Zoidberg gave Carol a coupon, but still)? Does the show really need to rely on senseless or unrealistic events to keep the story going?

A good episode nonetheless.

It's by far and away, the best Zoidberg episode, although that isn't saying much given the previous offerings. To give a sense of this, on the flip-side, it's probably the worst flash-back heavy episode.
It's consistently funny, but no more than I expect from 'Futurama', but it does a nice job of fleshing out characters and whilst it can't hold a candle to 'Futurama''s past triumphs such as 'The Luck of the Fryrish' or 'Jurassic Bark', it does have a nice amount of heart -certainly more than your standard animated sitcom could ever hope to achieve.
It's a good, strong episode that's brought down by a few iffy moments (such as the cartoonish violence when Leela jobs around in two halves). Overall, a good effort, but not a particularly special episode either.

Ugh. Painfully bad storytelling here. Occasional jokes that worked, but nothing that made me need to see this. To top it off, Billy West really phoned in the dialogue. You could tell he thought this was as much of a wall-banger as I did.

There's "it's so implausible it's funny" and then there's "it's implausible because we couldn't be bothered to do better." Guess which this was. That, and everyone referring to Zoidberg as "John" suddenly was just as awkward and unnecessary as it sounds.

This one was pretty meh. Not great by any means, but not cringe-worthy like some others this season.

And I still don't get how some people think that the show hasn't changed from the original series. If I watch an original and then immediately watch a new one, I see the difference. The writing, story lines, character development, and even voice acting all feel much more forced now.

And the yeti thing was pretty weak.

The best episode of 2011's half of the revival season. An overdue origin episode that hits all the rights notes being humorous and heartwarming. Zoidberg episodes have a spotty track record, but this bucked the trend. I could have done without some of the excessive gore in Act 1, but the ridiculously hilarious "death wheel" sequence made me forget about that. I'll give this my one and only "5" of the half-season.

Was it really necessary to resort to Itchy and Scratchy type violence to show that Zoidberg is a bad doctor? They could have done something funnier like have Zoidberg diagnose everyone with all sorts of squid and lobster type diseases, mistaking brains for genitals, that sort of thing. Other than that I love this episode. Zoidberg is such a weird and interesting character so it's good that they wrote him some more backstory. Also the yetis and the murderlator were cool.
