Nothing groundbreaking, but another episode that managed to expand the backstory of the characters, throw in some preposterous science, and get some laughs. Well done.

Amazing episode. You know when the flashbacks are used--something the show has mastered--things are gonna get a little heart-warming. Loved the moment between Fry and his dad at the end. Never really expected this episode to have an emotional ending, but, again, when the flashbacks are used, you have that expectation. This might be one of my five favorite episodes of the series.

I thought this episode was great! The flashbacks worked nicely throughout the scenes and it was great to see Yancy Sr. Fry and him had some touching moments. To me, this felt like a real 'old' futurama episode. Very solid, best out of season 6B in my opinion. Great, great, great episode!

I agree above it seems like it could be a sequel to Luck of the Fryrish. It was about time we saw his parents caring about him somewhat. I always felt as if it would just be they always hated. I also enjoyed when the Professor stabbed Wuerstrom(sp) with the fork.

Well done! i was losing hope after the past few weeks of mediocrity, but this lifted my spirits. good jokes, nothing gut busting and flashbacks that added to the story and played out well. i do have two complaints/concerns. one, the obama joke was pointless and lame. i know what it was meant to suggest but come on. it seemed tacked on. the other thing, wouldn't kiff be concerned amy was being shot into the sun?! oh yeah, and didnt smitty retire from the police force? these things aside, good work!

I've actually been wanting to see another episode dealing with Fry's parents, so I'm glad we got this one. It was a pretty decent one overall -- I was thoroughly entertained.

The funniest scene, to me, was the guinea pig training to be an astronaut. Wonderful.

About as good as "The Luck of the Fryrish." The episodes with a lot of Fry's backstory never seem to be that funny, but Nixon took care of that here (not that episodes MUST be funny to be good; a good story comes first).

"Clamps" and "Tip of the Zoidberg" remain my favourites this season, however. At this writing, "Cold Warriors" is maintaining a 96% rating at 12:45 AM, EDT. Let's see how long it takes for the nay-sayers to start nay-bombing the ratings with ones and twos ...

Great episode. It mixed humor and sentimentality very effectively; despite the fact that it's the second flashback episode in two weeks, it never felt forced or unnecessary.

Also, let me just say how happy I am to see the focus back on "how things are different in the future." My favorite episodes are always about Fry discovering something new about the 31st century - the moon colony, global warming, space bees - and this was no exception.

Awesome episode. The callbacks to The Luck of the Fryish were great, and the emotion between Fry and Yancy seemed genuine. Linda and Morbo were awesome, Zapp and Kif were awesome, and pretty much everything was awesome.

One thing bugged me though: When Manhattan was lifted up, why wasn't Old New York under it? Or the sewers? :/

Another thing: Did anyone else catch the reference to the "Duh-Vinci Code" were Fry says that he may not have brains, but he has a heart? I thought that was an awesome, subtle callback.

An amazing tribute to what classic Futurama should be like. Told in a flashback like fashion like The Luck of the Fryrish, this episode once again touches the emotions of others as it shows Fry's past relationship with a family member.
This is what Futurama should be like. The new episodes should be more like this, focused and emotional with a strong subject.
Perfect 5 out of 5!

I must admit I thought this was going to be horrible when it started and seen the luck of the fryish reference - thought it was going to be a cheap cash in but it turned out it was an excellent episode. Probably the best of the season. Didn't quite pack the emotional punch of "Luck of the fryish" purely because Fry doesn't learn anything about how his dad felt about him during the episode - he knows his dad loved him whereas in LOTF he learns his brother loved him at the end and we also learn that after spending the whole episode thinking he's ripped Fry off.

PLEASE don't keep doing these though - they are special because there aren't many of them - one more with his mother and that's it i think.

If you screw these episodes up you will spoil LOTF too which will be a travesty so be careful!!!!!!

Awesome ep, funny, had heart, great plot, nice twists, good ending, sci-fi. This was just all-round great, and the flashbacks really helped flesh it out and make it that extra bit deeper. Everyone was in character, and Morbo finally appeared again and was hilarious! I liked that fresh bait on the ice joke near the beginning, and also when Bender stole that charity box because everyone was more pre-occupied with the cold. Putting all of Manhattan in quarantine was interesting, and it meant Zapp could come back! Also we had Wernstrum! All good, and it all wrapped up just about without feeling too forced, it had heart...

Best episode of season 6B so far. It had everything I love in a Futurama episode: a great premise (albeit, one cribbed from the comics; the execution was completely different, though), tons of gags, and a genuine emotional thread carrying you through the story. The development of Yancy Sr. in particular was nice to see, and the ending was somewhat predictable but really, really sweet.

This episode has a lot going for it, and I'm not even going to begin getting into it here.

A great episode. Easily in the top 20 episodes of futurama.

I liked

-Just about everything.
-Fry's voice wasn't off.

I disliked

-Smitty being suddenly alive.
-Being hurled into the sun and the sixth leaf clover reference. (Its been done before.)
-The willingness to kill off Fry. (After last weeks episode. I wonder if the crew has any qualms about killing any of the characters.)

These minor isses aside. The episode almost seemed to have a downer ending. However, the very end made the episode pay off.
Its the best episode of season 6b.

Ever since Comedy Central bought Futurama, the new episodes have been good... but NOT AS GREAT as it was when futurama was on FOX. The new episodes have been a bit more like Family Guy, not really any witty jokes, just Sex jokes and blood, innap jokes. but this episode was good, and the ending was really sweat when Dad shared Fry a bit of his beer, and told him that he only treats him like that to make him better. it was a heart warming episode...:) hope Futurama can have more of those tearjerking episodes.

Really good episode. I wish there had been more LOL moments, but a solid story and some great nods to other episodes, as others have already noted. A couple things that bothered me:
+ Pretty sure colds can't jump from species to species so easily (let alone to aliens). I wish they'd had a joke explanation for this.
+ And where did Fry's cold come from? It just sat dormant for 1000+ years? While hed have antibodies, I dont think the virus itself would just spontaneously start up again, would it? Given the set up, I figured the virus would get released FROM the satellite, which would make more sense.
But these are just gripes still a fun episode.

Probably the best episode since Futurama is back. Not as funny as some others (like Benderama), but the story was extremely well-written. It was good to have to some of the beloved characters back (Dr. Wernstrom, Zapp with Kiff...). The flashbacks scene were much better this time than they were in the Zoidberg-episode, they matched much better with the rest of the story. And finally, this feels like the first episode of the new season where there is no out-of-character behavior. Everyone is acting credible, that plus the great story make up for a shortage of laughs.

Small minus though for the ending. Yeah, it was kinda nice, but I thought it was a little primitive. Tough-seeming dad loving his son after all... I think there would have been more subtle ways to express that than by him simply saying it.

Fantastic episode! I enjoyed every minute of it, and actually preferred the flashback scenes over the present day ones in this one. Nevertheless, some great jokes, good pacing, and a very entertaining plot. I'm not sure how Fry ended up getting the common cold in the present day though, but the father and son scene at the end was quite emotional and reminded me why I loved the original run of Futurama. Oh man this season 6 B is really busting out the great episodes!

This one I woud call... epic! Felt like this episode could have been in third season. I also liked that the writers decided to have Frys clover in it.

The story was simply great, and there was a lot of good jokes. The ending was very emotional... I didn't cry though, although no episode of Futurama have made me cry. No one, and I've seen them all. Just saying. It was heartwarming though.

Awseome, Superb, epic episode. 'nuff said. And it's still not the best one. (Tip of the Zoidberg still has the gold of Season 6 B)

The plot, I thought, was so-so, and the ending was a bit too cheesey, but

OMG! There haven't been so many laughs in an episode in a long time. Absolutely hilarious! Loved it, loved it, loved it.

What an incredible season this is turning out to be.

I'm not a troll and I hated this one too! I thought the city being wrapped up like a dome was such a re-hash of the simpsons movie, also nobody cared that Fry was about to die for what he accidently caused, and the prof. feared this would happen for ten years but did nothing. Oh and did I mention Kif was going to help kill Amy, Fuck this episode and F you too if ur a tweleve year old fan boy who after watching every episode every week have the same thing to say, to quote Billy West making fun of you " ow, ten outta ten, TEN OUTTA TEN!"
Lame-wads, Zoidbergs episodes this year have been the best.

I guess I'm in the less popular opinion's side on this one. I thought it was weak like the X-mas Vebber-ganza episode of last year. After doing interlocking stories seperated by time over and over they've lost there overall power and message.
I hope 'Overclockwise' can rise above these past episodes.
Right now I'm one sad fanboy.

Personally, I thought this was an excellent episode, even if the ending was less emotionally charged than other episodes. The right song and/or a montage probably would've helped that. Easily in my top 12.

This is either the second or third best episode of this season in my opinion behind Silence of the Clamps and Ghosts in the Machine, which were other episodes that had fantastic character development from characters we don't get to see enough of. We've seen enough of the main characters and the no-thought miscellaneous characters such as the idiotic scottish planet, I love seeing more of the Robot Devil, the Robot Mafia, and in the most recent episode, Fry's family.

The episode plays between two timelines which interlock and join at the end. The pacing is good even if the two stories move slowly because of the half-split nature of them. The humor seems top-notch even though some of the pop-culture references could have been left out (most notably the unnecessary facebook reference). In the end, the story ends on a touching sequence of us getting to see Fry and Leela develop (which hasn't been looked at since The Late Phillip J. Fry), and some closure on the often confusing relationship of Fry and his dad.

Overall, I'd give it a 8.5/10 for being not as funny as it could be, but due to the nature of Troll's, I'll bump the score to 9.0, or rounded to a 5/5.

Wanted to say, there were a few laughs in this one, but the whole concept seemed a bit forced, especially since Fry had been in the future for so long w/o a cold, and then NNY being airlifted. This was a good episode by recent seasons' standards, but not not earlier ones.

Upon watching it again the impact of the emotional thread wore thin, as does the basic plot, I do not believe this episode is anything more than average.
Most people won't admit that the flashbacks really served no purpose, other than the final one with Fry and his pop.

Started really slow, but then the laughs eventually arrived. Seemed like they were trying to tug on us emotionally (a la Parasites, Jurassic, Fryrish, Devil's Hands), but it didn't quite land.

Still, pretty good.

A good episode, but far from the masterpiece some people would have you believe.
The episode has a brilliant premise and is reasonably funny, but it's let down by a handful of small, but rather critical details. Mostly, the way the common cold is handled. At times the episode makes out like the common cold being reintroduced is a BIG deal that could cause the deaths of anyone infected, at others it acts like there's no problem at all and the media is blowing it all out of control. You're left not knowing how to feel about the infection throughout the episode. Is it a big deal? Are the characters lives in danger? After a while, I found myself switching off and thinking who cares?
The other major irk is how Kif doesn't even offer up his usual sigh when Zapp Brannigan not only has him carry the city his (practically) wife lives in to be burned in the sun, but also has him fire a missile at the Planet Express ship which he knows most likely has her in it. It's a small detail, but one that completely takes you out of the world of the show when you watch it.
The other problem is that the other episodes where we see Fry's past have all been sublime. This one is just a bit... it's good, but it's not THAT good, and thanks to those other episodes, it looks worse by comparison. Even its little emotional moment at the end suffers from this. Although it's set up reasonably nicely, something about it just feels out of place.

All the same, this is a good episode. It's just not THAT good.

This is one of the best of the new episodes. I just typed a really long review for Overclockwise stating why the new episodes suck, so just read that, if you want some background. Anyway, this episode is one of the best because of its use of flashbacks (as far as I know, this is the only new episode that used flashbacks) to make a moving episode. It wasn't the funniest episode, and the non-flashback parts were a bit boring, but it was still good enough to get a good rating from me.

If "The Luck of the Fryrish" didn't exist, this would be an amazing episode. But since it does, comparisons are inevitable, and this is a great-yet-inferior episode. Quality jokes, clever story, and gave a lot character to Fry's dad, who was never really fleshed out before. It just didn't quite hit the emotional mark it was probably aiming for.

Were it not for the well-written dialogue between Fry and his father, this would get a 2 from me. I thought the idea for this episode was actually pretty creative, but the execution was just...boring I guess. Thankfully there were some touching moments, which for me always help save a Futurama episode. Unfortunately, there wasn't a whole lot to save here, so I'll just give it a 3

Cold Warriors is a great episode, but not one of the best. It had smattering of problems (who seriously calls the cold the common cold?) and a couple jokes fell a little flat or felt forced (the clover). The flashbacks were great and give a great insight to Fry's relationship with his father, mix that in with a pretty good science-fiction yarn and here you go.

Fantastic but flawed.
