I felt like not only the ending was rushed, the whole episode felt rushed. The jokes were meh. I was actually happy on many returns such as the crazy alley surgent from "My Three Suns" and Roberto(I felt bummed out that the characters I like are deceased, some) The parody of "The Monster Mash" was ok from Zoidberg. All in all, the episodes are turning into nice to stale

Compared to the more recent episodes, which in retrospect were kind of all over the place, I rather liked this episode. I felt it was well-paced, and it had some decent twists. I also got a few chuckles out of it (plus they addressed that Bender's metal ass is not as shiny as he says it is).

As I posted on PEEL:

Ken Keeler has done it again. This episode has it all; great plot, great character development, great jokes, and unexpected twists.

The dynamic between Hermes and Zoidberg has barely been explored since season 2, and even then it was only throwaway gags. Here, we see some real mentions of Hermes' hatred towards Zoidberg. When he was collecting the old body parts and making a puppet, it never occurred to me that he might put his brain in and the restore the original Hermes. That was an excellent twist.

Another big plus is the episode didn't feel rushed at all. Everything flowed at a realistic pace, unlike many episodes from the new run (most notably ATPH, Neutopia, and GITM).

There wasn't much Fry, Bender or Leela involved, but enough to make them part of a story that focuses on Hermes and Zoidberg without feeling like space occupiers. All the other characters were placed perfectly. The cameos from The Organ Dealer, Ron Whitey ,and the Robot Devil were fantastic, and having Roberto used as the antagonist was a great callback to Insane in the Mainframe (additionally, I loved what it said on his tombstone.) I really hope he'll be coming back. He's too great of a character to die.

There were plenty of great gags throughout. Bender pulling out the Professor's teeth, then dropping them down again was classic. And the "It's funny because it's mean" line had me rolling as well. The best part though was probably Bender's reaction to Fry commenting on how shiny Mega-Hermes' ass was.

One other thing I loved was the way it cut from "I'll never see Hermes again!" to "At least I'll never see Zoidberg again."

All in all, this episode is pretty much perfect. Definite 10/10.

This was a really good story. I'm a bit more squeamish and haven't ever liked Futurama's gorier parts, so the meat-puppet freaked me out a little...But I do have to say, it was a very intellectually stimulating episode. We got some transhumanism and a bit of Ship of Theseus in this one, as well as a sweet character dynamic in Zoidberg never giving up in his...imagined freindship with Hermes.

A definite step up from last week's episode. Besides, Hermes-centric episodes tend to be fun, and seeing Zoidberg actually get a bit of respect (more than usual, anyway) was nice. Plus this episode's "shiny metal ass" bit was priceless to boot.

Honestly, I think we already have gotten this season's winner here.

The whole episode was just great. It had great character development, and some realistic feel to it. The gags were great, and the pacing was perfect. I can't wait for next episode, they say it's actually a good one, I hope.

Worst episode of the season, in my opinion. The whole Hermes mutilation was lame, and made this episode, like A Tip of the Zoidberg, to be too cartoony and cheezy. I didn't laugh once. Oh well. Based on the plot, I knew that I was going to strongly dislike it. I'm just glad it's over, so better episodes can come.

A drastic step back up from last week, and Zoidberg's role was unexpected but welcome. It wasn't relentlessly hilarious, but story-wise, it was one of the stronger episodes this season. And musical numbers just aren't done often enough these days in animation in general. (though damn, they really don't have a problem killing off notable robots lately, do they?)

Also, I'd like to commend that run-on joke with the chili falling through the floor. Lengthy extended gags like that are risky and usually miss more than hit, but that one kept getting funnier as it went on.

Although the beginning of the ep. felt just as a forced way of settting things up for the second part, "The Robot Brain Song" did it for me.

I also liked the apparition of Devil's Robot and Zoidberg's stand up.

Zoidberg's is f. awesome.

I thought the idea of the episode was okay, but the execution of it was surprisingly boring for me. There were a few good moments here and there, but there was some pretty bad dialogue and the singing just wasn't all that well done.

Overall, not the worst episode ever, but pretty forgettable.

I think we can all agree that out of all of the Planet Express members, Hermes is one of (if not the hardest) characters to write an episode for. But as far as this episode goes, I think they did a decent job. We saw some more of Hermes and Zoidberg's relationship and they never lost sight that they hate each other! Well, Hermes hate's Zoidberg but he's too oblivious to notice.
I'm a tad upset that Roberto was killed since I always thought he was hilarious! The Monster Mash got quite a chuckle from me. And it was nice for the writers to include that sexual fan torture for us, you know the Leela and Amy asking Fry to come in the shower.

Best of this season. It lacks the emotional hit of some of the best futurama episodes, but makes up for it with a plot that works much better than it has any right to, lots of fanservice, and some real development in a relationship that has been sort of stagnant until now. There are some strange bits, like most of the cast standing around playing the audience.

The whole episode felt rushed to me and never really gelled into a complete, well thought out storyline. It seemed like a "Anthology of Interest" segment that ran a little too long.

However as always there were some funny lines and having Zoidberg shine through from time to time is not a bad thing. I am not sure why people are confirming classic "5" status on this one.

The plot had really good potential and wasn't nearly as bad as the Butterjunk Effect but I still find myself disappointed with how dumb the characters are. Some characters are meant to be dumb but not all of them!

I also don't like that all the "rules" of the show seem to have been thrown out the window. For example, there's no danger of a character dying (Hermes' body was dead and mutilated for some time yet they drop his brain in and everything is fine a short while later!)

Eh, I don't know, am I asking too much? It just seems like the show was smarter and a bit tighter and more focused back in the day. Now it's all over the place and feels very much like a cartoon. Silly to say I know, but old Futurama felt a bit more of an animated sci-fi show with rules and boundaries.

Of all the episodes this season, this is the one I had the highest expectations for. Ken Keeler is my favorite writer, and Peter Avanzino is my favorite director. The last time they worked together (ItWGY), it was epic. So I was even more disappointed than I normally would've been at how bad this episode sucked. The writing was HORRIBLE, other than the first few minutes, and the artwork looked pretty stupid. (Robo-Hermes' coloring made me want to puke, and what the hell was wrong with Amy's eyes? They looked like they were coming off her head, for God's sake!) There were a few good written jokes (I loved the tombstone that said "Dying Unit 1.0"), and I'm glad that Roberto died, since he's one of my least favorite characters, aside from the Robot Mafia, but other than that, this episode was a disappointment in every way.

You'll notice I didn't talk about the song. That's because if I did, this entire review would deteriorate into how much of a BAD idea it was to do a parody of Monster Mash and how it worked TERRIBLY with the episode.

EASILY the best episode of the new season, hands down. As I recall the last season picked up at about the same time, so hopefully we'll see that again.

I loved just about everything about this episode. Hermes heavy episodes always tend to be the best IMO, and it was great to see him center stage. The supporting Zoidberg bits were fun, particularly the meat puppet, and the payoff (which you knew was coming), but maybe not quite as good, and at times, a little cheesey, which is one of Futurama's big faults (but at least this time it wasn't tired cheese re: Fry and Leela).

While the song at the end was fun, it wasn't quiiiiite there.

What's with killing off all the famous robots this season? Is Hedonismbot next???

All in all, a Fabulous episode and the best since Reincarnation.

I agree with a previous post about the show not having any more 'rules' so to speak. It does seems like it's now just a large platter of episodes with no meaningful connection. That's not necessarily a bad thing for a tv show, but I don't think it works for Futurama, especially considering how well it was done in the original series.

As for the episode, it just wasn't all that interesting. No dialogue was done particularly well, and the song just kind of dragged on. Not so good, but next week's episode is supposed to be the big 'emmy episode' like the 'Late Philip J Fry', so I'm hoping it'll pick back up.

I personally enjoyed the lightheartedness of this episode. It touches upon Hermes relationship with Zoidberg, and does pretty well. LaBarbara gets some screen time and is utilized well, as is the rest of the Planet Express crew. Fans may be turned off by the death of a character and the over-the-top gags used. If you can easily excuse the silliness, the episode has many things to offer. It's well-paced and the humor used isn't the recently used and abused blatant crude joke fare. I think the strongest points about this episode are the pacing and the characterizations. Overall, this one is worth a watch.

This episode had a decent pace to it, though certain parts felt a tad rushed. Lots of little easter eggs to find in this one (e.g., the bridge Hermes and Labarabara walk by is probably the one where the Professor, Fry and Bender are buried from season 7). On the downside, Herme's corpse's appearance and use in the second half was a bit macabre and caused me to lose immersion into the episode, and Zoidberg's song was not a success.

Overall, feels like a 3.5 to me, but I'll just round up.

I have never been a fan of Hermes or Hermes episodes, but.... this episode was excellent! Yeah sure, the plot was a bit cartoony, but ya know, I really enjoyed it, and isn't that all that matters in the end?

I enjoyed the character development with Zoidberg and Hermes. (Although it would have been nice if Hermes warmed to Zoidberg a bit more at the end). I admit that the roberto thing was VERY predictable (I just knew it was his grave they were digging up). But overall, this episode highly exceeded my expectations, and has gone from my least anticipated episode to one of my favourites of the season.

I still think this season has been great so far - not a single bad episode IMO. They've all been good for me (except butterjunk which was not as strong but still ok)

I'm surprised that this episode is proving so controversial. I haven't liked many of the newer episodes, but thought this one was excellent.

The pacing was excellent, and the jokes were quite funny... I laughed more in this episode than the last two combined.

My only complaint was that I thought Hermes's transformation back into a human seemed abrupt (if he was willing to let his wife and child leave one minute, why would he change his mind just because his brain was back in a human body?) and a little unearned.

Well, it was an interesting episode, with its ups and downs. The ups being the beginning of the episode, and the musical number, the down being the fact that it wasn't really all that funny, a recurring problem this season.
