At a maximum security prison, Bender meets a famous folk singer and attempts to make a copy of his precious guitar.

This was a surprisingly bad episode, even more surprising because Ken Keeler wrote it. It felt like they had this idea that SEEMED okay, but instead of making it work, filled it with Bender singing.

It had a few one-off gags that were pretty good (Farnsworth on the CV cracked me up especially) but from a story standpoint this was a stinker.

One of Ken's worst but it was still a good episode. I do hope we get a couple classic type episodes out of this last batch. So far they've all been average to good. At least we haven't had a terrible one.

Amazing episode...it had a lot of twists and it did a great job of showing them off thru out the episode.
Ending was a bit predictable, but still worth watching again.
Also the fact it brings back bender in an episode where he secretly wants to be a folk-singer was well deserved.

I thought the first 5 minutes of this episode were hilarious, but once Bender left the 3-D printing store, it suddenly got really boring and stayed boring the rest of the way. The songs got old quickly, and while the 3-D printer twist was interesting, it came so late that there wasn't any time left. Also one of the lamer fake-out deaths in a series that's done way too many of them. A lenient "3", mainly for the first act.

I think this was one of the best episodes of the last couple seasons. I think the way they made fun of folk song lyrics was pretty subtle--the train stuff, someone always getting shot, stuff like that. I also liked the stuff about the "authentic down-home prison". They really did get at some of the pretensions of the genre.

It was okay, I guess. If Mike Rowe had written this episode I'd probably be a bit kinder with it. The good news is that there weren't any really bad jokes, but the bad news is there simply wasn't very many of them. The plot functioned well enough and the twist was nice, if not particularly shocking. The ending seemed to go on for a while as well. I feel like it could've easily ended a couple minutes early.

The premise itself was nice, but the execution was foul and distinctly un-Keeler'ish. The hooting at Leela part, the selling out slap-on at the end, and a ton of other little plastic and dumbed down bits left a rancid aftertaste. Don't get me started on the vile pop-culture references. Ken, why you do this? Futurama, why you do this? This was supposed to be the best going away season, get your act together.

It was like the writers gave up.

They did another plot about folk singing Bender, but all the good jokes had been used in all the previous episodes.
So they added in the 3-D printer concept from one the office actually had as a plot device.
One they played with instead of writing good plots!
The writers threw the show away in my opinion and the ratings reflect that.

WE WONT WATCH IF IT'S CRAP!!!!

Nothing at all worked, and all the jokes were bad.
I guess, at least the animation was okay.

Futurama deserves to be canceled, this was on a 'Family Guy' level of crappy!

Figures that one of the best episodes I've ever watched has an extremely low rating. I'm left handed and have blue eyes, so I'm used to having people look down on me, but a folk music episode is something I've been looking forward to since episode 2.

I play guitar, write music for leisure, and listen to what folks would call Folkish rock(Deer Tick being my current favorite band), so my outlook is obviously different than most, but I loved this episode. It was either equal to or better than Bendin' in the Wind, which is another episode that I obviously strongly appreciate.

My only gripe I have with this episode is that Dimaggio clearly feels that folk music is a dead art. His singing was embarrasing
when compared with Dawnn Lewis and Mo's work. I'll let that slide, as the alien that was the best folk singer in the universe was awesome.

Mr. Beeler, I mean Keeler. You are the man, and likeminded.

Amazing! An episode I like and much of the Futurama fanbase seems to hate it!

The animation was spectacular here, and I really liked the direction. The production here was really slick and the story was entertaining.

The beginning was almost completely unrelated to the rest of the story. Felt more like The Simpsons than Futurama in that regard. Once it got going the story was really all over the place. Amazing how much they crammed into 22 minutes.

Refreshingly different.

The beginning was excellent, it was really nice to thoroughly enjoy Futurama again. Once the story got going with Bender's folk singing I wasn't so entertained but its still better than the other efforts in this latest batch.

Most of all I simply enjoyed the animation. The show looks great!

Finally, it was nice to get away from the lame lowbrow humor that has been polluting the show since Comedy Central picked it up.

Juanes you are actually the delusional one because you can't seem to comprehend that people have different opinions and define laughter/humour in different ways. And besides, YLL isn't the worst-rated episode other than this - TFHS is.

Anyway, I'm afraid I'm another person that is rating this a 1. It WAS horrible. This of course is by futurama's standards. How many times can you hear Bender (or John Dimaggio for that matter) sing? Right!

Jokes were also funny, with the carbonite and all. And of course I didn't forgot about Benders life long wish to become a folk singer (when you put a magnet on his head)!

Also noticed the commands to the 3D printer were pretty accurate! Having worked with a 2D laser cutter, I recognized the CNC commands (G1 for movement, M101 wait for input, etc). Neat!

The type of humour in Leadbelly is different to the typical for futurama - less satirical, more goofy which may explain the very mixed reviews. Almost reminded me of British humour in parts. The whole joke is how incompetent and unlikely Bender is as a folk singer. The fact that he sucks and the whole premise sucks IS the joke. If you don't get this type of so bad it's good humour the whole thing will be lost on you.

I'll be forthright honest here, I would actually only give this episode a 4 star rating at best, but I feel that I can help buff the episode a little bit because the 48% it currently has is extremely undeserved.

First of all, this episode does not deserve a ranking that puts at the bottom of the series in terms of ratings on this site. This episode may not be The Sting or Hell is Other Robots, but it's certainly not a Yo Leela Leela or Holiday Spectacular, or even Saturday Morning Fun Pit, which has a higher rating.

The episode starts off on a very funny note as we discover Bender has a dream to be a folk singer (what doesn't he dream of?). Not longer after, he goes to a 3D printing shop and gets himself his dream guitar, and the episode snowballs. Before we know it, strange twists start to occur that seemed out of nowhere, but it is revealed that the 3D Printer is causing these events to happen, which leads for a large number of surprises in the episode. The Sci-Fi factor actually feels pretty damned fresh, and while not all the jokes are hilarious, this episode is actually one of the better one's in this season. I guess I feel the same way about this episode as I do Mother's Day or A Leela of Her Own, not bad episodes that are rated horribly for some unjustified reason, while boring shit like Attack of the Killer App sits with better rankings.

Watch this one without fear my friends, it's actually quite great!

Pleasantly surprised! With the low rating I was expecting a total disaster. Honestly, this is one of the best episodes of the season and pretty solid overall. Methinks some d-bag is spamming the "1" ratings on some sort of vendetta.

I enjoyed the Simpsons-esque story structure. The beginning has virtually nothing to do with the main story. I'm no fan of folk music but the story was still very entertaining.

Its generally a 3/5 episode, but giving 5/5 because the percentage feels off to me.

Low percentage is a bit unjustified. Not a perfect episode, but not bad either.

Embarrassingly bad. A few good gags save it from being completely terrible.

I always like to watch Bender become a folk singer. It had an interesting plot, and the terabytes of poem was a good laugh.
