Futurama Writers at Berkeley Math Talk

Dr. Sarah Greenwald is moderating a talk on the mathematics in Futurama and the Simpsons at UC Berkeley on Sunday, October 16th. Her guests will be three Futurama executive producers and writers with scientific backgrounds: David X. Cohen, Ken Keeler and Jeff Westbrook. Since it's open to the public, everybody is invited to attend at the Valley Life Sciences Building's Chan Shun Auditorium (Rm. 2050) starting at 2pm.

Update: Sarah let me know that David X. won't be able to make it. Ken and Jeff will still be there.

Update2: The Daily Californian has a first media account on the event.

Since David X. Cohen is going to be there, somebody go and put him on the spot about the direct to dvd Futurama video.
scruffyspaOct 11th 2005, 18:07
i can not imagine a more nerd intensive function
GamblorOct 11th 2005, 18:45
I hope there will be a transcript of the talk on the internet afterwards.
BennderOct 11th 2005, 19:03
TALK ABOUT THE MOVIE I NEED TO NO
FatuckOct 11th 2005, 19:30
I go to Berkeley and I'll be sure to hit this up. Strange how I never heard of it from any on campus publication.
LukeOct 11th 2005, 21:05
Darnit, Why do they have to do this in California!
They should have come to Alberta!
EdwardOct 11th 2005, 21:38
California, why not Miami, it is just as warm but with no earthquakes.
mrdeOct 11th 2005, 22:31
Miami has hurricanes
idontknowOct 12th 2005, 03:58
(Way off topic) This is for the people who run this site, since it registraition expires oct 23 and there is no real futurama updates to be had are you going to keep the site going?
scummbuddyOct 12th 2005, 05:18
<rolls eyes> yeah... they're going to throw in the towel when the prospects of getting a DVD movie, or possibly more.

In other news, lets get mad at FOX some more. Who's with me:
---
"I think what's happened is we are at a maturing phase for reality programming," said Preston Beckman, executive VP strategic program planning at Fox. "It used to be you could put on any reality show and get a rating. That's not the case anymore."
--------
From CNN in their discussion today on reality shows becoming stale.

DEATH TO REALITY TV!!!

LIFE TO SUPER NERDY INTELLIGENT CARTOONS!
tomisagothOct 12th 2005, 19:35
Someone watch ALL the seasons of Futurama, write down all the maths parts. When you get there start talking about them to David X. Cohen. Then BAM suddenly start asking questions about the movie. E.g (for example) how long its going to take to come to the cinemas including with all the delays its going to have? You 'll be able to think of others.
idontknowOct 12th 2005, 21:10
(#10) exaclty a prospect not a certainty and you dont need a whole site for a prospect. I like this site i don't want it to go, but some times you have to know when to throw in the towel. It rarely gets updated and when it does its about math seminars.
RichardOct 12th 2005, 22:34
...rolls dice.."More reality shows!"
BrianOct 13th 2005, 00:41
Well as this is kinda-sorta interesting, you could have at least paired this with SOME type of news dealing with a real Futurama news story. Yes this does do with Futurama but has no real affect on the hope to the fans on the future of the show or stars.

Marc, Jon, Andie you guys do a great jobon the site but there is rarely any news on the show or stars. Simple storys like this should be paired with other stories.

I'm not putting down your site nor you, but this is a very important story. Interesting to hear about but there is a lack of REAL updates.

Now on the subject of the post, very interesting.
KiljhadhOct 13th 2005, 02:57
Brian, I'm sure you have hundreds of stories to post on the website. Like that interview you got last week with David X. Cohen, and the special that is going to be on 60 minutes about Billy West.

Yes, there HAS to be a transcript, and somebody's gotta ask him directly about the DVD...
lordzoidfarbOct 13th 2005, 04:22
yes is anyone going. i would love to but alas im in australia

i wonder about david x's feeling on the movie probably cautiosly optimistic like the rest of us
JamesMilesOct 13th 2005, 07:17
I'm also in Australia

Wondering if we can get transcripts of the Leture/Talk?
FatuckOct 13th 2005, 08:57
Aww... it sucks David won't be able to make it now.
eddyOct 13th 2005, 09:11
Where did you hear that from Fatuck?
FatuckOct 13th 2005, 20:28
It's on the front page.
gotfuturamaOct 14th 2005, 08:22
Re: #9's comments: Gotfuturama has so much great info - I hope it stays up, regardless of whether the News is about the past or the (possible) future of the show. I like finding out new things about the old shows from the writers - it's like getting new DVD commentaries.
BiteMeOct 15th 2005, 04:22
I say every computer savy user should hack Fox Broadcasting and nock it off the air during its primetime and demand for the return of Futurama or else.
Officer1BDIOct 16th 2005, 00:56
"Due to an unforeseen family emergency, David Cohen will be unable to join the panel."

I hope everything's all right. :\
eddyOct 16th 2005, 03:20
Officer 1BDI, David... will be able to join the panel..

Is he coming or not?
eddyOct 16th 2005, 03:41
My bad, I misread your comment. Sorry
BennderOct 16th 2005, 18:56
ya well i have been reading stuff off PEEL and IMDB about Matt Groening and David X direct to DVD deelie u probly kno theres no official word but theres rumors of Matt working on a cartoon i have but 3 questions...

1. Is this Futurama Bring Back?
2. or is it Maggie and Eric the new simpsons spinoff?
3. or sumthing just brand new?

Maggie and eric has a link if u wanna check it out here it is maggieanderic.tv
FatuckOct 17th 2005, 01:00
Well, it's over now. It was pretty cool. Ken and Jeff were both quite funny and Jeff did mention that the direct to DVDs are still in talks. He said as far as he knew, the talks were progressing, but he didn't have anything for certain to say.
jglcOct 17th 2005, 03:55
"Maggie and Eric" isn't an official simpsons spinoff, it's just a project that a single artist - albeit a very talented one with a great handle on the current simpsons art direction and character designs - posts online.
BennderOct 18th 2005, 04:14
since Jake the creater use to be a cartoonest for the simpsons thats why its so great and theres is no official word but hey theres no official word of the drect to DVD Futurama and theres a good chance there will be one so hey anything can happen...
MaxineOct 18th 2005, 05:43
#28, I remember Jeff saying no comment about Futurama, but that he did say a Simpsons movie was being worked on (which is well known). I thought it was Ken who said that talks were in the works for Futurama DVDs, and that while there was a chance they would be successful, there was also a chance DVDs wouldn't happen, although David and Matt and others would like to do them.
benderOct 19th 2005, 02:37
futurama iz teh bak!
FatuckOct 19th 2005, 03:52
It was Ken, I mistyped it when I wrote it earlier and didn't bother correcting it since there is no ability to edit comments.
jglcOct 21st 2005, 23:34
The rumors of a direct to DVD Futurama movie, while unsubstantiated rumors, seem to come from sources heavily involved with the production and executive decisions on the show (at least, that's what we hope). "Maggie and Eric" also has no official word, but conjecturing that the two have an equal probability of coming about simply because they share the distinction of having "no official word" is a fallacy.
tomisagothOct 22nd 2005, 19:38
Maggie and Eric is just a website with various pics on its just been made up by somebody on the internet, right?
bobOct 23rd 2005, 08:58
I think he used to work for the simpsons or something...
jglcOct 23rd 2005, 10:34
Yup - you're entirely correct. I'm just responding to Bennder's comments and reasoning.
BennderOct 25th 2005, 02:17
Ya he did work for simpsons and yepp its a bunch of pictures BUT there is a rumor that it will be a show Jake has also made up 32 or sumthing seasons already! its supposed to air Jan.07 but theres no official word
go to for more info and anyways the IGN video about billy west Billy did say that there going to work on the movie soon so iono im so confused all i have to say is David,Matt,Jeff, and Ken stop killing us fans with the freaking hold up just make up your mind!!!! YES or NO!!!!!!

-Bennder
WhyfryOct 25th 2005, 02:56
THANK YOU Bennder, really, what's the freakin hold up?
BennderOct 25th 2005, 03:06
Great work on the Halloween theme guys its really great :D
Officer1BDIOct 25th 2005, 07:07
I don't recall ever seeing Jake Lennington's name in the credits for The Simpsons, nor have I heard any rumor about his Maggie and Eric series becoming an actual show. :\ Maggie and Eric is simply a very thorough fan spinoff of the show, and the only thing that's going to come out soon regarding it is the second half of that online comic that Jake himself is drawing.

Also, Billy West recently admitted that he may have "jumped the gun" concerning the Futurama movies being greenlit (I can't remember where I read that, but it was probably in PEEL somewhere). Ken and Jeff's words are the most recent things we've heard about the potential DVDs.
frryOct 26th 2005, 02:28
C'mon ppl talk about futurama
BennderOct 26th 2005, 02:32
Yea thats true Officer1BDI but he was in the earlyer episodes i dont think he was credited but
there are rumors just go to Www.Maggieanderic.com for info theres the comic, episode guide, pics and other things so ya..

anyways the Futurama movie i mean hey Matt or David X. if you read this tell us ur diehard fans if its no or yes i mean Billy said yes and Ken and Jeff said no so WTF IS IT!!!! plz freaking tell us!!!!!

-Bennder
jglcOct 27th 2005, 06:24
I think there's a way to differentiate valid production rumors from internet hearsay.
ComedyCentralOct 28th 2005, 01:46
I wonder whether this really means that Fox is giving up all the rights to the show in 2008:

First, I have NEVER worked for the Simpsons or Futurama in any form, and the "Seasons" on maggieanderic.TV are the episode ideas I posted the No Homers Message board over the past few years.

NHC member, Rowdy Harmon, has been keeping them together and posted the first 35 seasons on my site.
