Can't get enough Futurama

Futurama on Comedy Central in 2008

The (subscription) media publication Variety and zap2it are reporting that Comedy Central is going to pick up all 72 existing Futurama episodes starting 2008 when Cartoon Networks' 5 year run ends. The new contract is said to be for 5 years again but this time comes at around $28m compared to rumoured $10m paid by Cartoon Network. If things stay as planned, Comedy Central wants to run Futurama weekdays at primetime.

That's 2 years to go but at least we know that Futurama won't just vanish from the air.

More money = good!!! Hopefully this will make FOX see that Futurama can make money. YEAH!!!

will it air on the uk comedy central as well?.
knowsfordsOct 28th 2005, 16:35
Heres hoping to Comedy Central ordering more episodes from Fox.
FrenderOct 28th 2005, 19:53
This is good news for those who wish to see a 'direct to DVD' movie, no doubt. I am also sure that when FOX see how well it does at Comedy Central they may decide to make more...

... but it seems unlikely FOX will show new episodes while CC is showing old ones, thus pushing back a new series until 2013-2015. That's a long wait!

I find the most erotic part of a woman is the boobies.
Officer1BDIOct 28th 2005, 20:46
@ Frender: CN is still showing Family Guy reruns, even though new episodes are airing. In fact, CN is showing repeats of American Dad a few weeks (?) after the episode originally aired. I don't think FOX would hold back new Futurama episodes because another network is airing the old ones.

ugh, i can't wait for something futurama... you have no idea how obsessed i am hahahah, i literally just have the dvds playing non-stop

It is a mystery to me how TV execs (especially at FOX) can see what we see -- an syndicated cartoon with above average DVD sales and a continual main draw for Cartoon Network & TBS -- and not consider putting it back on the air. This should be a crime punishable by death.
HotdiggedydemonOct 29th 2005, 02:39
will it still be on Adult Swim? PLEASE SAY YES!
ChucklesOct 29th 2005, 05:07
The twisted web continues to be spun. The FOX executive will put of any idea of new production by claiming that they will want to see how reaction to Futurama showing on CC will pan out before they make there desition. Then another network will buy the series and the whole cycle will repeat over, and over again, personally i propose we find Murdock, kidnap him and force him to bring back futurama through any means possible, even if it involves a weekend with the pain monster.

Or i could be completly wrong, let history be my judge, failling that the bloke i met in the pub the other night
zachOct 29th 2005, 06:10
excellent news. plus thats quite a jump in money and also interesting to see they want to put it in primetime. hopefully fox seeing the $$$ will wake them up a bit.
BrianOct 29th 2005, 10:01
That is so cool! But as seeing the rumors or saying our D-T-D movie is coming out in 2006 or 2007 by the time they get the show, the movie will be likely already been out! We all now know that there is about a 10 out of 100 chance of Futurama not getting new episodes. But when all of ratings of the Futurama providers and the DVD sales go to FOX to have a look at, Dollar sighns will appear in the eyes and the chance of Futurama not getting new episodes will disappear! ($)__($)
ElGatoOct 29th 2005, 14:41
Come on FOX! I bought all your DVD's to show how much we want the show back on the air.FOX can get more money from me if they produce new episodes!!!
jglcOct 29th 2005, 20:51
Yeah. It's just as easy as calling up the head of FOX and asking for him to bring back a TV show. I'm sure that's completely reasonable and'll work really well.
ChucklesOct 29th 2005, 21:11
#19 this is rupert murdock your talking about it will literally be easier to get blood from a stone, rather than counting on him being a reasonable human being.

Everyone just make sure to Tivo every episode. they won't know if you are watching it or not : )
PorcupineDreamsOct 30th 2005, 05:14
That might be bad news for the next 2-3 years, if Cartoon Network decides not to promote a show that won't be with it for the long haul. As it is they're down to three episodes a week, four occasionally. Good thing they have the, ahem, Squidbillies. Yeesh
lostinseganetOct 30th 2005, 18:45
Whay does fox have such a hold on this show. I thought that they did not own the rights to it. They own the rights to family guy that is why it had a show to be returned. Why can this show not be made by someone else?
ChucklesOct 30th 2005, 19:17
Now theres an idea that is so logical i have never thorght about it.
Bluedragon21120Oct 31st 2005, 00:17
Any chance of them funding new episodes?
ericmcrodchesterOct 31st 2005, 01:07
So is it just going to be on Comedy Central in 08 or both channels?
ToonmonOct 31st 2005, 14:12
Just Comedy Central.
chrisOct 31st 2005, 18:08
"Whay does fox have such a hold on this show. I thought that they did not own the rights to it. They own the rights to family guy that is why it had a show to be returned. Why can this show not be made by someone else? "

Because what other networks have a cartoon in primetime, even after the success of the simpsons?

Comedy Central is cable and they wouldn't be able to fund Futurama.
HypnotoadOct 31st 2005, 21:28
I have all the dvd's and watch it every time it's on the air and I just can't see why fox wouldnt want to make money by putting this show back on the air, it would turn a profit for them, AND shut all of us up....i can't believe the anchovies didn't work, ha, oh well, i say they kick American Dad off the air and put something on there that's worth watching!!!
BanditRulerOct 31st 2005, 22:45
*glance*

This is incredible... it feels only like yesterday that I caught my first gimpse of Futurama. Who would've known? Who would have known...?

This news definently is sad and dissapointing for me, but I'm happy that... like it said; it won't just vanish! But I shouldn't be so worried: A band of freinds and I have devised a secret weapon... *evil grin* and we have confidence on it's effect. ^_^

How many countless millions of dollars have FOX made from Matt Groening's cartoons?! The man gave the world The Simpsons for goodness' sake, how dare FOX be so short sighted and stifle an excellent series like Futurama, which, in my opinion, is better than The Simpsons. Still, repeats are better than nothing.

american dad, squidbillies, but no new futurama? could it be i'm part of an even smaller demographic than i thought?
rslyNov 2nd 2005, 05:56
I think its great comedy central is picking up futurama, because 1. it will continue to do well and 2. it will show fox what impact it really did have on the success of adult swim. couldnt agree more with 38, I think adult swim really needed to keep futurama, the shows over the past year they have picked up besides venture brothers & robot chicken have been complete flops.
LrrrNov 2nd 2005, 09:25
I'm glad they'll be getting a primetime slot in the weekday lineup. A little more exposure will be good for any hopes of new episodes being produced.

"Dude, my hands are huuuge."
steveNov 2nd 2005, 11:22
It's all fucking shite people, it'll make no difference to Groening, he is like Lucas a money driven wank stain, he should look to himself before attempting to parody the world around him. Do you honestly think he cares about us? and do you honestly mean to tell me he cant afford to bring at least one series of Futurama straight to DVD, no,like Lucas he is a golden jew who is all about the money and cares not for the people who made his increasingly shite cartoons famous in the first place.
A very pissed Futurama fan

KidnappsterNov 2nd 2005, 22:14
Futurama Fans unite and cause Fox to go off the air during primetime everyday and special sports casting (expect sunday because of animated shows like the Simpson, Family Guy, American Dad, and King of the Hill) until Rupert Murdock learns that there is strengh in numbers. Come on spill Beer on the control panels the fox affiliates broadcasting towers, hack the computers bring Fox down to it's knees. Victory at all cost. Or at least relese the DVD movie sooner.
MikeNov 3rd 2005, 07:12
#41 : Excuse me? "a golden jew"?

Your complete racism aside : No, Matt Groening wouldn't be able to afford to bring even one season of new episodes back. 1) If Fox owns the rights to the show, he'd first have to buy, or license those rights back to himself. 2) He would have to pay, out of pocket, the prodution costs for each episode, which was, if I recall correctly, ~$1million per episode. I'm not sure if that includes cast and crew salaries, or if that's purely a production cost. So you're looking at a minimum of $24million for a full season. Just one season.

If you've listened to the commentaries on ANY of the DVDs, you'll realize that all involved tryly loved this show, and look upon it as one of their favorite experiences. Billy West and John Dimaggio have said it repeatedly, and said they'd jump at the chance to come back. If, as you say, he's a "money driven wank stain", why would he still be discussing the series and it's potential future several years after it's less than financially rewarding end?

It pays to think before you type. I truly hope that you don't toss around this casual racism in your day to day life, as it really makes you look like a dunce.
tomisagothNov 3rd 2005, 21:34
First of all apparently Futurama got cancelled because after the 3rd season FOX's logo was "the fun begins at 8(P.M)". This made Matt and Dave angry so they changed the show by putting dirty jokes e.t.c in the episodes to get the time slot which was 7P.M or 7.30P.M to 8P.M. These dirty jokes made the ratings go down so FOX cancelled Futurama, also the bad time period for the show was another reason for the cancellation.

-------

The Futurama resurrection will take place some time in 2010 to 2020 or maybe even longer. Apparently even if Cartoon Network or Comedy Central did decide to make new Futurama episodes, they don't own the rights FOX do I think. If anybody knows who currantly owns the rights to Futurama make a message of it on this website.

I really hope Cartoon Network don't make new episodes, if they own the rights because they would be complete rubbish from start to finish. This is because most of the shows on Cartoon Network are rubbish even the new stuff they 're releasing apart from about 3 shows!
SteaminBeautyNov 4th 2005, 01:45

I am not sure how much it cost to make a futurama movie dvd.

If cost less than 28 million dollars or 28 million dollars to make a futurama movie you should write a letter to FOX asking them to use the 28 million dollars they got from Comedy Central to play their episodes for 5 years.

Maybe a movie is not being confrimed because maybe FOX does not have enough money to make a futurama movie.

Write to FOX and call FOX and the people that live in California could maybe try to go in person to convince FOX ask them how much it would cost a futurama movie to use the 28 million dollars that got from comedy central to show the 72 existing futurama episodes for 5 years.

Hopefully 28 million dollars is enough money to confrim that they are making a futurama movie or will help them reach the proper dollar amount that they need to make a futurama movie.

FOX mailing address is listed below
Fox Broadcasting Company
10201 West Pico Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90035

FOX phone number is listed below
310-369-3553

I suggest that the best option is to call FOX so you have the right people to answer your questions.

A movie takes 2 years to make.
If it is confrimed in 2005 by FOX the movie will be released in 2007.

A new Futurama Movie could uncancell futurama.
If Futurama was uncancelled new re-run episodes of futurama will go to comedy central.

Hopefully if enough people write and call FOX asking them how much a futurama movie will cost and that the 28 million dollars that they got from comedy central to show the 72 existing futurama episodes for the futurama movie and that the 28 million dollars should be enough money for you to confrim a futurama movie.

Quit complaining about Adultswim, people. They showed Futurama when no one else would. You have to realize they can't hold on to the syndication rights forever. I'm happy another network will be showing it. At least it gives the show another chance to make new fans that may have never seen it. Yay Futurama!
KimberlyNov 7th 2005, 19:33
Just what the heck is UP with Adult Swim?

"We're airing Futurama 11:30pm Saturday nights" (promos months ago)

So, I stayed in Saturday nights in the hopes of catching Futurama, only to find they're playing either the crappiest anime ever (can't they get GOOD anime like Gatchaman? Ranma? Hell, even Robotech? Sheesh!) or they're airing their own stupid, moronic, retarded, demented, and lame shiat.

Now it's hard to find Futurama on Adult Swim - hence, I don't watch Adult Swim, aside from Monday through Wednesday.

What is up with their cutting back? Wasn't it pulling in great ratings? Good f'n grief!

I'm sure Comedy Central will give it better treatment, and air it in a better time slot.
KurtPikachu2001Nov 9th 2005, 00:41
It's good that Futurama is coming to Comedy Central after it's Adult Swim contract is up! By then the DVD Futurama movies will be out! So, rest assured fans, Futurama will not be forgotten. Also, since by then it will be on Comedy Central and the DVD movies will be out, that might make way for new episodes! This isn't the end, tt's a new beginning!

Officer1BDINov 9th 2005, 06:16
I don't understand why so many people are convinced that the Futurama movie will be out by '07. It hasn't even been confirmed yet, 2005 is almost over, and quite frankly, a two year production period would worry me. Doesn't it normally take them 9 months to make a 22 minute episode? I'm expecting this movie to be longer and greater than the average 130 min direct-to-DVD tripe, and I'd rather have a quality movie than a closer release date.

That said, West's new rumors of a nearly completed storyline (see PEEL thread in GD) are encouraging. Very encouraging.

Futurama and Family Guy are very good shows.

It would be nice to see Futurama come back but I am not sure if that is going to actually happen.

Number 61 I know and I hope other futurama fans know that a futurama movie has not been confrimed yet and yes I agree with you that I would like to have a very good quality futurama movie also.

I just hope that $28 million dollars from FOX will help confirm that they will be making a futurama movie.

Hopefully somewhere FOX will confrim that they are making a futurama movie before Jan. 1 2006 and maybe the latest FOX can introduce that they are making a futurama movie is somewhere in
2006.

We will have to see what happens and hope that $28 million dollars that FOX got from Comedy Central will help make a futurama movie.

I guess we will have to see what happens.

tomisagothNov 11th 2005, 18:10
The Futurama movie is going to take ages to come out because FOX haven't even told the media or public that the Futurama movie is a certain thing they have left various clues in places , but who really knows?

be serious people, 28 mil could fund about half a season with all the 3d effects and such added. I mean, I have done animation, and the effects they use are dazzling, and therefore EXTREMELY expensive. other shows, like squidbillies or 12 oz. mouse are basically flash animations. THey are as hard to make as lone star runner (very good btw). the only reason they exist is because they are cheap. I think comedy central is on to something, but as of now, its not new episodes.

I got the Complete Collection for christmas (Yay!)
so I feel ready to traverse the Futurama sites now.

On Topic:
FOX does have a vendetta against the show. They always wanted it to be a family-suitable Jeffersons-style show, and that's why they got rid of it. Apparently families are the demographic that keeps Simpsons alive. (Do people just turn it on and not watch it? I honestly don't understand why Simpsons still gets such high ratings after it Pole-Vaulted the shark)
pjfr4dJan 7th 2006, 15:41
I have no problem what so ever with comedy central picking up futurama, but i think it would be better if the scifi net work picked it up instead and created a scifi thursday with futurama and firefly, two of the best shows ever made!!!
shadowofb33Jan 7th 2006, 17:22
It would be great if CC brought more fans in for Futurama. The more support, the better odds it'll get back on the air with new episodes. Though I wonder if Adult Swim and CC can air the same episode at the same time? Anyways, Fox needs Futurama to come back... The Simpsons is going to end very soon (only 1-2 more seasons to go), and personally I really want the Simpsons to end. I never really liked the Simpsons (always though the humor was very dry), but I loved Futurama (not really ironic sense the humor is handled very differently then the Simpsons). The main point is, Fox is going to dump something soon. The odds are looking towards American Dad or the War at Home. Then when the simpsons finally does end, their gonna be down a show...
atfburntFeb 15th 2006, 03:46
FUTURAMA is great! I have Volumes 1-4, and the Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection. Comedy Central will be great for the show. Hopefully more new episodes will be put on the air.
RyanMar 25th 2006, 05:30
1. I dont know if I like this. I remeber when Beavis & Butt-head was shown on Comedy Central. It only lasted 2weeks and they didnt even show it every day. Will they do the same to Futurama just show it for 2 weeks then throw it away becasuse they didnt get enough people to watch it because they didnt promote it enough.

2. Yo Steve #41 Fuck you Matt cares about his fans plus you cant really compare Futurama and Star Wars they are 2 completely differnt things. One is real one is animated one takes place a long long time ago in a galexcy far far away and and another take place 1000 years from now. How do you know Matt dosent care about his fans. Did you talk to him yourself. Do you know him. You should at least have facts to back up what you are saying. I know Matt cares about his fans because I keep on see stuff on this site that says futurama is comeing back. I beleve that if they can get enough people to buy their DVDs and we can get enough people to watch the show on adultswim the network that gave futurama a home when no other network would. Maybe just maybe Futuram has a chance at comeing back. Will any one read this statement probably not but I just recently found this site and it is the greatest Fan site made by a creator that I have met other fan sites for other show have hardly anything at all. This site gives me it all. The whole reason I write these things on these sites is because I feel like my voice needs to be heard even if no one is listianing. Maybe just maybe some one some where for some reason at some point in time will go back to the old news and read what I think and possibly respond to it to but I dont know. I am only human. For only god knows if any one will ever come upon this comment and only god knows if futurama will come back for more seasons wiht more new episodes wiht more new DVD volumes that I have to buy in order to own all the episodes. For I am on a never ending quest to Own every single episode of Futurama. So far I have Vol 1,3,4 I just need the 19 episodes from vol 2 and I will own them all. Because I beleve that if futurama Comes back and they air it around the time that Family Guy is on I beleve that maybe just maybe it could get better rateing and just maybe could stay on the air. (maybe not as long as the simpsons but hey it is not about how long a show runs but rather it is a bout how good a show is) for example I could have a show that has over 500 episodes but if now one watches the show then all the episodes are good for shit, Long story short I Dont like the fact that futurama is going to comedy central. Not that I have any thing against Comedy Central I just think that Futurama wont survive wiht the stuff Comedy Central shows ( Mind of Mencia, Drawn Together, South Park, Comedy Central Presents, Chapells show, Shorties watchin shorties...ext) I am sorry about the length of this. If you do end up reading all this the Congradulations you are a total nerd who has nothing better to do with his life than read the comments that futurama fans write like myself. I am surprized I actually made something this long. I mean honestly this has got to be one of the longest thing to ever go on a forum on this site. I should get a freakin award or something any ways I am gettin bored so ua........ ... ......RYAN OUT:)
