Heck, even my mom likes Futurama, mainly because of Bender's antics. When I told her it was on Adult Swim she started tuning in on occasion. All the computer science humor and most of the math and physics jokes go right over her head though, so she's really missing out. :(

Futurama Movies are a massive success, and lead to a new 3 season contract, the simpsons is finished, and all the effort put into futurama. 15 seasons later they start winding down.

Best news ever. Four 90 minute movies is the same as about 16 22 minute episodes. For all practical purposes, it's like getting a whole new season of episodes.

Yes, it will be at least Fall of 2007 (and probably closer to Christmas to increase sales)until we we the first one, but knowing Bender, Fry, Leela and the gang are getting a new life leaves me with a really big smile.

Lets just hope the dont do to Futurama what they did to the Simpsons, ruin it! If they are going to screw around with the past formula I hope they never make a futurama again!

Ya know, I didn't get into Futurama until after it was released on DVD, my nephews got me hooked. Really hoping we see more of this gem in production. A great mix of High and Lowbrow comedy. ... Plus it has exploding robot heads. I mean come on, you just can't beat that.

Im not sure it will be a great success i have always thougt cartoon movies never have benn that succesful like the family guy movie never even hit the the theiters, so i think they shoulde really put 500 % into this movie, but i sure hope it will be really good.

A couple of points - firstly, the Family Guy movie was never supposed to have a theatrical run; secondly, I highly doubt that the production of these Futurama movies will take anything more than a year and half, after all it's roughly the same amount of work as a regular season, and, by the way, I think that they'll start actively working on the project much sooner thean late summer, just because there are obviously some more things to do before recording voice, such as storyboards, layout, etc.

Have they already made the plot or not?

Because I seem to recall the original rumour was that some guy met groening at a pub and Matt said that he had the script upstairs..

If Billy West is correct and they are reccording in late July/August, I'm fairly certain they would have written a draft of the script to at least the first movie, so...yes, I think they have made the plot.

In the time before July/August they'll probably sort out everyone's contracts if they haven't done them already, polish up the script in the writers room and storyboard it.

I look at my wall now and see my Futurama poster and think... Theres a chance it might come back. This is amazing news! When I learned Futurama was cancelled I didn't think much of it, however, after time flew by I realized how much of an awesome show it is.

And now hearing that theres going to be like 5 hours of movies being made?! WOW! I'm 100% sure I'm pre-ordering! Please, let there be a god and confirm this! :D

Yeah, I saw the Adult Swim announcement that the 4 Futurama direct to DVD movies will begin productionin the Summer. I'm sure that at some point they'll all be shown on the Cartoon Network since Fox seems to still be reluctant to bring Futurama back to TV and the Cartoon Network has been so instrumental in bringing the series back to life.

I was watching FUTURAMA tonight on Comedy Network, and they stated DEFINATELY that Futurama was going to go into production, on four DVD "movies", I imagine the way they recently did with FAMILY GUY. I would imagine the difference will be, that unlike Family Guy, the FUTURAMA films wont suck. My guess, is that FOUR DVDS, will me marketed as a BOX SET, and you will basically be getting a season of FUTURAMA, direct to disc, instead of the limitations from being associated with FOX.

You know what else AS said? Futurama is taking over American Dad's spot sunday at 10. American Dad sucked anyways....

I can't wait to see Futurama either. I'm sure it'll take ages for the first film to come out; as I'm sure they'll weave plot lines and little time-line accuracies into the films.

BTW, why do people hate new Simpsons so much? So what if it's not as good as "Marge vs the Monorail"? Just be glad that some sundays out of the month, there's a brand new simpsons that you've never seen before.

Whenever they get cancelled, you'll miss that buzz. There are those of us who still Support the Simpsons. Even though on a whole, the seasons aren't great, there are still good episodes -chunks of gold- amidst the dirt.

Plus, you can always just watch your old season DVDs and not the TV.

i wonder what the individual movie lengths are and if it'll be a quadrilogy as such. I would say i hope they dont do a family guy movie (read: extended episode) but then i realised the FG movie was actually alot worse than the old Series 1-3 quality. I dont think that can happen with futurama though, the writers care too much about the universe and the characters, whereas Family Guy's just a sketch show. I hope the DVDs come out in the US first and then Euro, that way I'll have an excuse 2 have 2 copies of each movie ^_^. Also i wonder if this'll be a back to back release or staggered ala Matrix/Kill Bill or even the LOTR annual model...

I agree with Pants completly. I was scared when Futurama started doing some of that, with Beck and the Beastie Boys... but the Beastie Boys were only a little part of getting towards Benders addiction, but Beck was a large part.

I'm okay with the casual guest appearance, like Pamela Anderson, but I guess I just don't want Futurama to turn into Simpsons' celebrity of the week.

Couldn't you say the same thing about Futurama? So what if it's not on TV anymore, you can just go watch the DVD's?

Admittedly, each Futurama episode is still hilarious, even after having seen everyone at least 20 times, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't give every non-vital organ in my body for it to come back. I think people feel the same way about The Simpsons, except instead of it being cancelled, it gets paraded out every week a husk of what it once was, and they just it would truly get cancelled or be "brought back" in its own way, ie with good new episodes.

On that note, I think The Simpsons has actually been improving lately. Interesting thing- I don't know if this means anything, but The Simpsons really went downhill around 1999, when Futurama hit the air. Then it started improving around 2003/2004ish, after Futurama was officially cancelled. Maybe the good Simpsons writers went over to Futurama during its 4 production seasons, leaving the show without talent? Then when Futurama was canned, they went back and started bringing the series back? I dunno, just some observations.

Does anyone know why Ed O'Neil didn't do the voice for Alcazar, the shape-shifting alien who tried to marry Leela? It's kinda odd that they made all the references to 'Married With Children', and weren't able to get Ed to do the voice?

Plus, I think it's cool that [adult swim] has posted the words from Billy West about the cast getting together to being recording, because if for some reason Fox comes around and says "No", then there would be even more people crushed and infurriated, and could hopefully fight back.

If you watch Adult Swim, over the past few nights they have been running cards at the start of Futurama saying that they are indeed coming back. I would say that is enough for me.

No, they didn not "indeed" say anything. They stated what Maxine said above, which is, that on Billy West's forum, he states that they are recording in a couple months. They hint that its back, but again, we have not heard final confirmation from Fox yet. Adult Swim is just doing what this news post is doing.

Sadly, there is no 'reader's mail' or other stuff in the back of this issue. I guess the story went on too long, but I don't see how it could be that much harder to add another page. Oh well. Just as long as they continue to come out with comics until the movies/series gets picked up.

More than likly, Fox always have to risk their money on peoples ideas. Futurama only came into excistence because FOX could trust the simpsons creators to make somthing succesful. The DVDs are a test to se if theres still an audience for Futurama. If they do well FOX will most likely invest in a new series of the show as it already has a fanbase rather than take the bigger risk of a new show entirly.

As the simpsons is slowly coming to an end maybe this could be the possible substitue. Whats better for that type of audience?

This is the best news I've heard all year. When Futurama first came out on the season sets, I bought them all! To this day I still watch all the episodes. Even though it is not guaranteed that the four movies will come out, it is uplifting for the die-hard fans and even the occasinal viewers to know Futurama is still alive!

I was searching around on a Family Guy site and read something about this, and it seems like the rumors are true that a DVD movie of Futurama will be released just dont know when yet.

When i first read this post i was pretty excited. I felt sure that now, at last, futurama was back on the cards. That was nearly a month ago! Does anyone actually know what's going on at fox? why haven't they said anything? That news is awesome. Although feature length cartoons are usually 60 minutes long, not 90. However, that's still about 1/3rd of a season of Futurama. Hopefully, we'll get to see what happened after "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" episode. A Fry-Leela relationship would certainly make these 4 mini movies very interesting. And if they make enough money, let's have more new episodes of Futurama in 2007! There's no reason why Futurama couldn't have gone on like the Simpsons has done.

Yah! Futurama! I look on this website 4 news evey week cause im sooooo thriled about this.
I mean 4 movies, wow! Also i realy wonder what the plot is? I just can't wait.

This could be the re-birth of futurama Now that it has been confirmed that they are working on a simpsons movie it could be the end of the simpsons so he will have more time to work on futurama. and put that in the 7:00 block on FOX then maybe it could even more popular. sure it probably wont last as long as the simpsons but remeber it is quality over quantitiy

I like the fact that there will be a movie coming out, but I think that I enjoy the episodes better. Plus, with a movie I bet it will feel forced, I hope to god not though.
