There is a news article by the Hollywood Reporter (read at CNN) telling about rumours that say that Futurama is considered for a return to FOX:

There also was speculation that Fox was looking to resurrect the animated series "Futurama," from "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, on its Sunday lineup the same way that "Family Guy" was brought back last year. The network has an option for new episodes, which currently are being produced for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim late-night block.

However, with the last line about episodes in production for CN:AS being wrong, we can only wonder how accurate the rest of the information is.

In this context, Groening himself stated in a recent interview with the A.V Club that 4 DVD movies are going ahead:

AVC: What can you say about the Futurama movies?

MG: We're going to do four of them, straight to DVD. And as we speak, I'm exchanging e-mails and ideas with David X. Cohen and Ken Keeler, both of whom worked on the show from the very beginning. Right now we're trying to figure out whether to do a giant epic, or separate crazy movies, or what. But I wager that Bender will be featured prominently.

We haven't heard anything else in the last few weeks, so let's hope things are going along.

The CNN report was clearly incorrect regarding the Cartoon Network (from what we know), but I wouldn't discount the whole story because of that point. I mean, the Cartoon Network is currently showing Futurama.

Something is up, there has just been too much talk. I just wish David X. Cohen would post something. WE KNOW YOU ARE READING!!!

I saw the news on [adult swim] last night. Good news for sure, but we've been hearing rumors and such for a while now right? And Groening is just now saying thet he's exchanging emails of ideas?! That sounds pretty early in the development stages, doesn't it? You'd think that if the rumors up to this point had more substance, the development would be further along.

Like I said, it's good news... but I feel like we'll be waiting a while, and the longer it takes, the less likely it is to happen, IMO. I mean, look how long it took for them to finally make a Simpsons movie... and does anyone here disagree that it's about 10 years too late? Let's hope the same doesn't happen with Futurama.

Personally, I would diregard any news that claims Futurama is coming back on the air. The way I see it, no one would make that decision before the DVD movies came out. They have to see how much money they make. Why bring back the series when the movies haven't even been written yet?

And I would like to see the movies as one large epic. It wouldn't have to restrict the writing of them, they could keep an underlining theme through all four and still have plently of room for any other jokes they will write.

E3 is a videogame expo in LA, so it has nothing to do with Futurama.

I doubt the show will ever return to TV but a life on DTV would be FINE!!! by me!!!! I hope this is true but I've been on this emotional rollercoaster for years now discussing rebirth of Futurama.

Wow, never realized there were so many hardcore fans out there. I've almost finished watching the last season, and it is indeed an awesome series, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

Cautiously-creaming-my -pants, the precedent for greenlighting a series return was set with Family Guy which returned to network TV BEFORE the DVD movie debuted. I'd say we still have a 50/50 chance of seeing Futurama back on TV first. Especially if Fox has holes in its schedule to fill.

#31 (boo), the Family Guy movie was made under different circumstances than this one. They simply turned 3 episodes into a movie (and a profit) after they were signed on for a new season. Futurama is making their movie as a real movie-length movie with no immediate plans to bring back the series.

In the land of cartoons, Futurama is the mighty king. Whether its straight-to-DVD movies or new episodes on Fox, or both, it's gotta be a good thing. With that team there will be some classic moments.

#124 makes some sense. The new shows for next season have been announced and no mention of Futurama. And further, no mention of any movies.

If they are going to do anything, they need to do it soon. It seems the run on Cartoon Network is starting to fade, although I base that only on what I perceive to be the less than stellar new time slot of 10:30 p.m. (versus 11:00 p.m.)

I love futurama, but I am beginning to believe this talk of it coming back, in any form, was just that, talk...

I got back from Download yesterday. It was a mixed bag of awesome bands (Soulfly, Down, Stone Sour, etc) and the bad news of Jonathan Davis (KoRn singer) being hospitalised before they could play. He had a blood disorder and if he performed he would have died on the spot. They played with guest singers and my friend Martin and I did better than all of them. As a result my voice is screwed.

And also, on the same episode,............... The gravity pulls them all down exept 4 leela!!!! and when they hid under the rock, the gravity would still b in effect, and....and....and rock would've collapsed under that strong a preasure!!!!!!!!

"ez" is the clan i play in online games and 52 is my number (couldnt be bothered with a name, anyways i think it sounds cool) yeah the leader started a petition (eIRINNSKe56 i think u spelt it right) and within a week he had just under 1000 signutures. Sadly the website had changed hands and the petition was accidently deleted. We have a bet going that by the end of june we need at least 500 singutures, fair enough bringbackfuturama.com has 20,000+ but every little helps and if it helps bring back futurama then who is complaining?
