Can't get enough Futurama

Reuters: 13 New Episodes for CC

After word from two voice actors had spread during the last two days, the news agency Reuters is now reporting that "Comedy Central has resurrected the former Fox animated series from "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. At least 13 new episodes will be produced."

They go on to quote David Bernath, senior vice president for programming at the network.
"We are thrilled that Matt Groening and 20th Century Fox Television have decided to produce new episodes of 'Futurama' and that Comedy Central will be the first to air them."
"There is a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience, and it is great that we can offer them not just the existing library but something they've never seen as well."
A press release from Comedy Central dated June 22nd supposedly verifies this information but is not available to the public on their media website yet.

Update: It seems that some of these articles got some things confused. The 4 DVD movies which we reported about a few days ago will eventually be shown as 4 episodes each on Comedy Central. This makes the number of episodes 16, not 13. But as I understand it, there is no other new content other than those movies.

This is the best thing that I have heard in a long time. I am from Australia and Futurama really didn't kick off too well over here. But once the box sets came out they sold out immediately.

I have watched every eppisode multiple times and have been waiting for this news for a very long time.

Congratulations for bringing back Futurama!
BarryJun 23rd 2006, 08:05
This is definitely good news, but I'm disappointed that Fox didn't show Adult Swim a little gratitude by taking their bid for the show. Even though their bid was lower than Comedy Central's bid, AS's perennial dedication to Futurama is what really made the DVDs a success.

Also, what happened to the four DVD movies? Is that plan off the table now? I was looking forward to seeing what Groening, Cohen, and friends would do with the series in the expanded format.
aidanJun 23rd 2006, 08:24

Wow, this news made my day, week and month!

Interesting to see if they will still be progressing with the Direct to DVD releases too?? Either way, ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD!
LovechildJun 23rd 2006, 08:58
Please say it is so,I've been dreaming of this day for a long time now. Please pinch me..this cannot be a dream. I just read the news on Yahoo and almost jumped out of my chair in joy,I had a sigh of relief and I have never felt so happy.
DrZizzleJun 23rd 2006, 09:07
Barry - I'm pretty sure that the movies are still being made. However, now I'm really not sure. My idea was the movie would come out on Xmas 2007, which would tide us fans over until the new episodes began. But I don't know, and I'm really hoping Matt Groening or David X. Cohen will do an interview kind of clearing this all up. Like which starts production first, how the budget will effect the animation, if the movie is still slated for 2007, etc. As for the adult swim issue, I agree, but I'm also guessing Futurama will be much higher budget on comedy central than on Adult Swim, however that is purely speculative.

Forgive any typos, I'm just too excited.

This looks alot more official than the previous 3 or 4 "billy wests post on his own forum in druken and high as a kite stupour" rumours, which have been quashed once billy comes down and realises what the hell he did.
firebrandJun 23rd 2006, 10:38
WAAAHAHAH! Futurama's BACK! THERE IS A GOD~! Here's to hoping they put it up against Family Guy, so it can kill off that horridly unfunny show once and for all.

Now I can finish my DVD collection when I bought all of the episodes. This is great news. Personally I hope this helps to kill the Simpsons which has been on far too long and is sooooo old.
ClaireJun 23rd 2006, 17:07
Well there was also this on Billy West's forum posted by the man himself: -

"And the other good news is that they're doing 26 new episodes of
''Futurama'' for TV and we're hammering out the deal now.The original
plan was to have the DVD's first but that's no longer the case.I'm totaly

NeoJun 23rd 2006, 20:11
1. Season one is 9 episodes, production season 1 is 13...
2. What up with the movies?
3. Looks like CC has perspective... hope it doesn't abruptly stop at 13 episodes... in fact I hope this time it doesn't stop at all :)...
OdieJun 23rd 2006, 20:25
13 episodes is a fairly typical number for a season... espically a first season... and while this is obviously not a first season in truth, there are obviously parallels because it's restarting, which is a new beginning :)

Adult Swim should have gotten more props, sure. But Comedy Central promotes the heck outta their shows AND they can promote it during the day in a way that Cartoon Network really can't/won't because they have kids programming all day. If this move is true, it almost makes me forgive their treatment of MST3K... okay, maybe not. But almost. :)

I'm concerned about the voice talent too...But I'll take what I can get :)
GioJun 23rd 2006, 20:30
Wow Great News. But post #2, Barry: do you think Fox care about dedication, they care about money and not much else. And post #19: I love Futurama but how could you girlfriend cry after watching it?? I thought the last episode was poor anyway.
Still though, YAY FUTURAMA's COMING BACK!

Right on bro'. I've been(and I think I stil am) there. Comics, Fan-made comics/storys, nightmares/dreams, day-dreams and now 'stalking' the futurama crew? when will it end? :) In the mid/late '07 maybe?...

I better get my cable company to add CC here!
maxJun 23rd 2006, 21:00
INTELLIGENT is the key word here. Thats why futurama doesn't have the broad apeal that Family Guy has. its TOO smart for the ignorant public to apreciate it. But hey, we nerds need a show too! we are a demographic!

How cool today is my birthday. What a present. This almost makes up for today being the day Phil Hendrie goes off the air. I wonder if he will be in any new episodes?
DrZizzleJun 23rd 2006, 22:33
Quote from #38 (Gio)

"I love Futurama but how could you girlfriend cry after watching it?? I thought the last episode was poor anyway."

Them are fighting words. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I thought the last episode was exceptional, especially after an episode like Spanish Fry(which I don't hate, but the last two acts aren't very good). I didn't cry either, but I thought the episode was very touching, moving, and, most important, veyr hilarious at points.

Today, is truly a great day.
quackJun 23rd 2006, 22:41

GioJun 23rd 2006, 23:29
To #48: fair point I just didn't like the opera in the last ep. And I also think that there are some people that take Futurama too seriously. It is a clever and hilarious show but not made for people to cry at.
DanJun 24th 2006, 00:07
Simpsons ruled...until season 9, which was almost a decade ago. Why bother being on a Futurama site anyway?

Seriously though, great news everyone! I've probably watched every episode about 20 times since the show went off the air and it's still better than all but a small handful of shows on TV. I haven't been able to watch any new Simpsons episodes since the late 1990s because of the horrendous writing and lack of any intellectualism anymore. Family Guy is mediocre, and American Dad is inconsistent (though with slightly more intelligent humor than Family Guy), so it's going to be fantastic to have a great cartoon show again.
Now if we could only convince someone to bring Arrested Development back...
JohnLeaseJun 24th 2006, 00:18
I can't believe it, after so much false hope it's back alive. Too bad it couldn't stay on Cartoon Network, whoever thought Fox should have gotten it, forget it! They screwed it up horribly. I don't care how lame Comedy Central is otherwise, I'm watching my NEW Futurama in 2008. I wonder how the plot line of Leela and Fry will pick back up? I sure hope they get everyone back. Whoever does Zap's voice is doing car commercials here in the Washington DC area on radio. It always brings a smile to my face to hear the Zapper!
RazielJun 24th 2006, 00:37

Officer1BDIJun 24th 2006, 01:37
*pokes update to newspost fiercely*

Well, thanks for clarifying, [-mArc-]. Rather disappointing that so many "official sources" could misinterpret the 13/16 "episode" rumor so horribly, but it makes sense that Comedy Central would have the rights to air the movies. I'd personally rather have the movies over the new season (but those glorious 24 hours where I thought both would exist were nice while they lasted).
CroJun 24th 2006, 02:10
Adult Swim has wanted to make more episodes for a long time, it's just way too expensive to do such a thing considering the cost per episode and they just don't have the money. Either way, I am ready for more. Maybe we'll find out Leela and Bender's devine purposes now!

Contrary to what has been said on this website, Futurama will come back on Comedy Central with 13 new episodes. There has been no word on the movies airing on CC.
KimberlyJun 24th 2006, 04:17
Billy needs to stop posting on his messageboard when he's drunk. ;)

And by "drunk" I mean drunk with glee just from mere discussions of the possibility of working on Futurama. Nothing against him but he's jumped the gun before (a couple of times, right?) so I'm not believing 26 episodes. I hope it's true, but. . . at least we know that at 13 are confirmed. :)
eIRINNSKe56Jun 24th 2006, 04:56
dear simpsonslover:

i too was indeed a fan of the show. until i discovered something...something BETTER! and that thing was FUTURAMA!
it is way more intelligent, funnier and has 3D special fx.it has ALIENS, ROBOTS, SPACESHIPS, SPACE PIRATES, TIME TRAVEL & A GIANT RED LOBSTER!. what does the simpsons have?...not much, not counting the amount of fat people on that show, then it would have a heck lot.and as for "even king of the hill is better than futurama", well, eff u, i have never been able to bring myself to sit through an entire episode of king of the hill. i live in australia and unless u hav pay-tv it isnt on, know why? CAUSE ITS NOT GOOD!

anyways, back on topic: iv been watching every episode of futurama over and over (if they had a blooper real were the door didnt close all the way, id watch that too) and im ranting and raving for new ep's, or movies or whatever! iv been reading comic books of it to keep my spirits up.
anyways, im done here...

longest post ive ever made!!!
RichardJun 24th 2006, 05:05
Jesus Christ, how can Futurama news get screwed up EVERY FRICKING TIME!?! Every few months someone says it comes back and I believe it less and less every time because someone always heard something wrong, how is it possible?! I actually believed it was coming back this time, even when everyone else was celebrating I waited a day or so before I finally believed it.

I have lost faith in all of humanity

the fact that I am the ruler of the planet Omicron Persei 8 pisses me off, because I have to wait until 3008 before I can watch the new episodes, but other than that, I WILL NOT DESTROY YOU, just because matt groening and david x cohen inhabit your puny planet.
eIRINNSKe56Jun 24th 2006, 06:28
to "lurr" as the ruler of planet omicron persei 8, and be an intelligent and obviously rational being. you should know how to spell your own name. Lrrr i beleive is the correct spelling. and isnt his wife's name ndnd...or something?
aidanJun 24th 2006, 07:20
i thought his wifes name was indunda
MattJun 24th 2006, 10:34
man i do not believe that they would make the 4 movies into episodes. that would just make the new episodes unexciting and already seen on DVD. and would just make everyone say stuff like "they should've kept it cancelled" i mean who wants to see 4 differant movies of the same series in episode form. why wont they make 13 or 16 episodes with there own individual stories that wern't done yet. that would make it more exciting. what im saying is what a true futurama fan would want to agree with
NeoJun 24th 2006, 10:37
Aaa just wnated to say 3 things for starters : It's Lrrr, he's wife is Nd-nd and (animated)FUTURAMA is coming back!
I only hope it's not just for 13 episodes. Also, it better not drag-on with things like it did before, a more IN-YOUR-FACE atitude, so it can 'clear the waters' in some of the situations better.
LiamJun 24th 2006, 13:29

what about us here in the uk? will 'comedy central' affect sky's showing of the show? I take it sky would still show the new series.

Anyways, when the new series starts i worry about that - just now its great to hear futurama will be returning! yeah!
JoshJun 24th 2006, 16:41
If all 13 of these new episodes are supposed to be on in 2008, no way are the episodes just gonna be by-then-previously-released DVD movies. If the first of four was not gonna be out til late 2007, no way in hell would the other three have all come out in 2008. Four brand-new straight-to-DVD movies would never come out that soon one after the other.

I suspect whatever ideas they may have had for the DVDs will INSTEAD be incorporated into episodes and that there will be no straight-to-DVD movies anymore; there will simply be a Volume 5 box set that comes out after the 13 episodes are over. That's just my expectation.
RobinJun 24th 2006, 16:51
It seems to me that, Futurama should never have been on Fox, but directly on Comedy Central.
BullSpaceMooseJun 24th 2006, 17:30
Ah, this is excellent news. With any luck the resurrected show will be a hit (and why wouldn't it be?) and we'll get another full season after this.

EZ-52, I'm sure the episodes will be shown by Sky. They're still being produced by Fox, after all.
AndresJun 24th 2006, 17:55
bravo! may I just say this makes me proud of all the futurama staff.

I just hope the new season comes before the second coming of zombie jesus...
JohnJun 24th 2006, 18:06
This is definitely amazing news!!! I am very very excited to finally see some new episodes! Why did it take so long for some peopole to realize how great of a show this is!? I don't want to get an inch and take a mile, but I hope there will be more than 13!

LupinTheThirdJun 24th 2006, 22:38
Well, it looks like the update on the bottom of that news item is flying right over everybody's heads.

Comedy Central has not announced any new "episodes" that will be produced, they'll just be hacking up the movies into multiple episodes.

I'm not thrilled about that...but, hey, HOPEFULLY new Futurama stuff on TV (even if it's the same as what's going to be released on the DVD movies) will be good for everybody in the long run.
RichardJun 25th 2006, 00:12
The only way this could be seen as "good news" is that now there will be episodes on TV and if it gets good ratings, Comedy Central could order another season now that they will own the rights.

Because as LupinThe Third said, the update is going over everyone's head, these are the DVD's on TV, this will be like a Futurama Special, this is NOT a new season...well, I guess it depends how you look at it.
DarkLightJun 25th 2006, 00:51
I knew it. Futurama could never stay away.
Hopfully these new episodes will spark off more intrest for the show and they will produce more after this.
Welcome back Futurama.

Hy.. here you go!

A Terrifying Message from Al Gore

DrZizzleJun 25th 2006, 16:48
So, if this news is true about Comedy Central just airing spliced up versions of the movies as episodes, do you think the DVD's will be packaged as just the movies, or as the movies and as volume 5? Also, I'm a bit confused as to how they are supposed to have the episodes in 2008 because there is no way they can have the other three movies out by 2008. I trust you guys at CGEF, but I'm gonna wait until we have word from Matt Groening or David X. Cohen about what is going on, because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
KurtPikachu2001Jun 25th 2006, 21:06
This is a great day for all of us! Looks like Futurama is coming back as movies and new episodes!
OtoJun 25th 2006, 21:51
"...eventually be shown as 4 episodes each on Comedy Central. This makes the number of episodes 16, not 13."

Heu 13+4=16?? =/

Wait and see...
GooberJun 26th 2006, 00:29
4 movies. Four episodes each.

4 * 4 = 16
RavenStarJun 26th 2006, 03:11
A friend of mine has this to say about all this:

"Man, I'm begging anyone who does a Q&A session with John Dimaggio to ask him to drop in a "you think you're all that" quote aimed at Leela.

Would have me rolling in the aisles for DAYS to hear him do that.

"You think you're all that, Leela! But you aint!"

<sighs>"
KimberlyJun 26th 2006, 03:32
Either way, this means more Futurama, which I think we can all agree is a great thing indeed. :)
DudeJun 26th 2006, 04:00
Air it alongside South Park and it will be a great hit!
maomeJun 26th 2006, 04:17
The update was added by -mArc- without any source quoted, I wouldn't trust it 100%

Sure it COULD be that they split the movies up, but they haven't even said how long the movies are: 60, 80 minutes. How does -mArc- know how long they are? He doesn't. So 16 episodes is a guess just like that whole "update".

Just wait and see, CC will make a big deal out of this next year and once the movies start making shape there will a lot to report.

If you go to google news and do a search for "futurama", it seams that this news is being reported everywhere - and all agree that it will be 13 episodes, and many suggest that this will be instead of the DVD movies...
AlexJun 26th 2006, 07:19
Is this 100% Official and confirmed or just like the last time?

PS. FUTURAMA FKN RULES!!
[-mArc-]Jun 26th 2006, 08:05
re "13 episodes everywhere" by maome

The number 13 was taken from a clip with the Leela voice actor Katey Sagal where she also stated that she wasn't sure about the number. Could be more. One or two news writers (at Reuters) just put it down as "at least 13". Every other news site just copied.

And I didn't just guess the length of the movies ;) If I don't tell a source, that usually means that the source doesn't want to be publicly named. The only thing I'm not 100% sure about is whether it is 16 episodes being the movies or that and additional 16 episodes. Pretty sure though that it is the first and not the latter.
eIRINNSKe56Jun 26th 2006, 11:37
i hope that they can create the same heart wrenching stories as they had before. i cried like a baby at the end of "jurrassic bark" "time keeps on slippin'" and "the luck of the fry-rish"
im so looking forward to all the new "sappy stories"
also, i noticed during the last season they only went on about two missions. what was with that? i guess they never reached the full potential of an intergelacting delivery service.
BUT ITS ALL GOOD CAUSE IT'S ALL COMING BACK
and we can only assume it will be better than ever

When futurama gets back on the air it'll be basically ten years old.
late 2007 or 2008 is when it's likely to air.
I honestly can't believe its been cancelled for 3 years you know what i mean.
HarryKewellJun 26th 2006, 13:09
It'll be back just in time for the launch of "America's favourite Suicide booths".
RicoJun 26th 2006, 14:51
after 13 episodes and people begging for more we could see a lot more
come on Comedy Central!
you rule
rjrJun 26th 2006, 15:29
Hey #116, that's funny...just saw that episode and 2008 certainly yelled out to me too!
DrZizzleJun 26th 2006, 18:36
Marc, I don't mean this offensively, but I hope to Zombie Jesus that your source is wrong, and it is 16 additional episodes. And if you think about it, that makes more sense than showing spliced versions of movies. Why would Comedy Central say they were showing 13 new episodes, and release a press conference instead of saying they were going to be airing the DVD movies on tv first. But I guess we will have to wait and see.
OtoJun 26th 2006, 19:25
Thanks you, Goober . ;)
zoidberg74Jun 26th 2006, 21:10
does this mean that futurama will be leaving the adult swim line-up?
MeganSJun 27th 2006, 00:28

its true!!!!!!!!!!!
KillAllHumansJun 27th 2006, 00:46
I think I understand the state of ecstatic enlightenment Buddhist always talk about.

Pinch me.
PeteJun 27th 2006, 01:31
I'm worried about this and here's why:

Since the "new" episodes are essentially going to be the four movies, people will inherently think "I've already got the movies, why should I watch them on TV with commercials?"

Ratings will probably be worse than expected.

I love Futurama and would like nothing more than it to come back and be successful. I just hope CC is approaching this the right way.
bowlingforillidanJun 27th 2006, 05:57
not to question CGEF's sources, but everyone (including Sagal and DiMaggio) is talking about new episodes and later DVD releases, not movies...
RichardJun 27th 2006, 06:55
Well, Sagal was the one who messed up the orignal news anyway. Wasn't she?
DrZizzleJun 27th 2006, 09:18
Braptastic,

I'm not being negative by believing they will have new episodes and new movies. That is being positive. And I am lightly disagreeing with Marc, I'm not calling him a dirty lier or anything. He even said himself he wasn't sure that it would be a spliced up version of the movie or not. Seriously, how old are you man? Earlier, in a posted comment that was deleted, you said I moaned too much, and asked if I was beaten as a child? I guess that was supposed to pose as a joke, but then you followed it up by saying someone who agreed with me must be having sex with me. Please spread your immaturity elsewhere or stop trying to get in fights with me. When we got our comments deleted, I didn't try to start a fight, but you are trying to start one right now, please stop.

Anyway, on a different topic, how long do people think it will take for David X. Cohen or Matt Groening to come out and do an interview about this. I really enjoy reading any interview by both of them, and I'm actually very surprised they haven't yet. Then again, it hasn't even been a full week since the news. I guess I am just too excited. I also wonder how much of the writing staff will come back, but we definately know a few will be there like Ken Keeler, David Cohen, and Matt Groening obviously.
MadZoidJun 27th 2006, 15:28
OMG I really cannot belive this is true. Also the only reason they are starting off with just 13 new ones is because when new show are started up, they have a small season just to see if the show will catch back on. Family Guy's new season only had about 14 new ones to start off with. '
Anyways NEW FUTURAMA IS DA COOLESt.
yakuzammarJun 27th 2006, 16:06
If they haven't even written scripts for the 4 movies yet...and they are aware that each "movie" will be spliced into 4 episodes each....then aren't they going to essentially write with the mind set of new episodes anyway??? Regardless of that situation, I never thought I would be looking so foward to being 27 years old.
AliNagibJun 27th 2006, 17:23
Can someone give me a good explanation as to WHY Comedy Central would break up the movies into "episodes," assuming that those rumors are true? It makes perfect sense to me that they would show the DVD movies on air at some point, but why wouldn't they be shown in their entirety? What precedent is there for this? Is a 2 hour slot REALLY that much for Comedy Central to give up to show something with such a dedicated fan base? Until I get a good explanation to that, I'm going to assume that, whether new episodes are produced in addition to the movies, that WHEN the DVD movies air, they will be shown as they were produced, and not hacked into some fake "episode" format.
anessaJun 27th 2006, 17:35
Wow. That is seriously GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Too bad it couldn't have happened sooner. All those wasted years without Futurama... Keep making them and I promise to buy every DVD!

However, please don't mess with ANYTHING. I would rather they not bring it back if they can't remain completely faithful to the series.

BTW, Eddie, why would you hope this would now "kill the Simpsons". They are so completely different. Both brilliant. But Futurama is so much more...
kuninkasJun 27th 2006, 19:42
sweet zombie jesus! these are the really great news!
only bad thing is that we need more than 16 episodes.
ZoidyPoosJun 27th 2006, 20:40

DrZJun 28th 2006, 23:31
This is great news everyone! Oh, my, yes! I hope Futurama on Comedy Central has the same production values as it originally had. To me, Futurama blows away any cartoon show out there in looks, and definetely in substance and wit!! To me, what Futurama had that the other's didn't so much, was characters you could care about!

To quote Dr. Z: "I don't know, but it's infectious!!"

I jst read the same thing. 22 episodes are going to be sweet!!!!!!!!
DrZizzleJun 29th 2006, 07:03
Elchupanebray,

I waited a while because I thought the mods at this site were gonna delete your comment, but apparently not. But this fight is silly. It's completely off topic, and stupid. You criticize me as being immature by calling you immature, when you just called me doctor jizz. Seriously dude, why not just post as braptastic, instead of using Elchupanebray as your other name to make it seem like you have a lot of supporters. And seriously, children being beaten by abusive parents is a serious issue, not something for you to joke about. If you really want to fight then lets do it in the chat or something, not clogging up the comments section.

Mods please delete this, my previous comment, and the ones by Braptastic and Elchupanebray.

P.S. If the 22 episode order thing is true, woot.
eIRINNSKe56Jun 29th 2006, 08:16
YO YO YO
i hav a question for all ye other fans.
if fry is "good at video games and bad at everything else" as indicated in ANTHOLOGY OF INTEREST 2, why then in SPACE PILOT 3000 does he "stink" at "monkey fracas jr."?
some one please come up with an answer for me. and dont say "he's gotten better" because fry says himself he spent all nineth grade playing video games except the day his eyeballs started to bleed. so he would have been good before he played "monkey fracas jr." on new years eve 1999
ANonymousJun 29th 2006, 11:56
@ #149:
That's what Fry THINKS, not a fact. He thinks he's good at video games, when in fact, he's average.
SerGebJun 29th 2006, 12:59
If I may ask, where is this 22 episode rumor coming from? Who or what is 'oglle' #146?
DrZizzleJun 29th 2006, 17:08
Braptastic,

Okay I believe you, and can we both agree to stop this childish fighting? As the wise Bob Barker says in The Lesser of Two Evils, "Let's put an end to this pathetic hoedown." Sorry, I confused you as elchupanebray, and started this whole thing.

Anyway, yeah, I spent a long time last night searching oglle and futurama on google, but I couldn't come up with this new 22 episode rumor If Barry or Mary sees this, could the please elabrate or put a link to where they found it. Thanks.
AmyJun 29th 2006, 18:25
What great news!! ...Huzzah!
joshJun 29th 2006, 19:03
22 episodes are what a normal sitcom{ie two and a half men}produce every year. This would make sense.... nice...
XanforJun 29th 2006, 21:38
So, when these 16 episodes come to DVD... Are they going to be movies or boxed sets of episodes?

DrJohnZoidbergJun 30th 2006, 00:45
Thank you CC for believing in Futurama, best news of the year 2006!!! Finally we'll get to know what happens after the opera.
carylJun 30th 2006, 02:47
A 22 episode order confirms to me that they are serious about making a big time renewal after supposed death, just like family guy.
KimberlyJun 30th 2006, 02:52
eIRINNSKe56-

who cares? I'm great at some video games, stink at others. I can go through level after level of Zaxxon without "dying" once (once played for about 30 hours straight), beat every Id game I've tried, do great at most racing or dogfighting games (at least, the simulator types where the driving or flying is fairly realistic) stink at others.

Maybe Fry just has a problem with that one particular game?

More importantly: who the heck cares? Futurama is coming back, that's the important thing!

Fake-SimpsonsLover -

If you hate Futurama, why do you visit this site? Go back to the AOL chatrooms or troll MySpace for little boys like you usually do.
benJun 30th 2006, 03:04
It appears futurama will be back for at least twenty-two to twenty-four more episodes. I can't wait.
simpsonsloverJun 30th 2006, 03:21
22 more episodes of this most stupid cartoon makes no sense. Rock on homer&company

Sk8PrOJun 30th 2006, 04:04

RichardJun 30th 2006, 06:36
I concur, need a link.

Matt Groening would have to slap me with a episode renewal contract for me to believe anything now.
AlexJun 30th 2006, 06:42
God i fuckin new they would return! I never lost hope, Futurama 4tw!!!! ;D
DaniJun 30th 2006, 07:53

ZoidgarthJun 30th 2006, 10:24
if they make 13 episodes that will boost the overall number to 85 if they do 16 it'll be 88.
if it returns they've got to gun for 100 episodes.

:) .) -:]
NeoJun 30th 2006, 11:59
If it returns, they've got to gun for ∞ episodes! And it IS returning. PERIOD

And BTW, next month(w8 it's 30...), 'THIS' month, atleast the VO staff is starting work. Witch means 1.They allready got some scripts and co. 'done'. 2.The epsiodes will be long done before they air, maybe they decide to make more allready, or maybe there's a BIG surprise! :)
ZoidgarthJun 30th 2006, 12:16
VO is starting work THIS MONTH that is cool.
but where did you aquire this great info
NeoJun 30th 2006, 13:50
Billy West(Zoidberg, Fry, etc.'s VO,for who dosen't know) said that VO work is starting in mid-late July/August, some time ago, but confirmd recently. Ther's no point in wasting time. :)

Thery're not telling us alot, so be prepaird to be surprised about anything.

Fry : It's a 6th season :)

Me. Want. News. About. 22 episodes !

Another person from Oz here. I totally missed out on the futurama documentary. Did anyone here watch it? Was it any good? Anyone happen to record it?
simpsonslover-haterJul 2nd 2006, 21:00
More likely, rather than light-in-the-loafers-yet-closted Flanders, he likes Smithers, an out-and-proud flamer.
Sk8PrOJul 2nd 2006, 21:22
Yes. Does anyone taped that report ? If yes, can someone host it in any way ?
NeoJul 2nd 2006, 21:24
"simpsonslover-hater"... I don't usualy say this but LOL!

Funny-funny stuff!!!

Anyway back to some serious sh*t, the Futurama documentary, I think it wasn't broadcasted, they aired something else, but they have it, and will probably air it soon enought.
When they do, can someone PLEASE record it? And UL it somewhere?

Best news I've heard all year.

MatthewnottheoneaboveJul 3rd 2006, 07:44
avian, Channel Ten didn't end up showing it. Instead they kept Big Brother on TV. The rumour was that they were going to axe the show and throw on the Futurama documentary on. But it didn't end up happening.

I am guessing soon that Channel Ten will play it.
CheesenessJul 3rd 2006, 08:31
Interesting that comedy central's media page still doesn't say anything about it.
:(
I hope we haven't been duped again.
ZoidgarthJul 3rd 2006, 10:13
#183 Sk8PrO : it will technically be the fifth season because they only had four production seasons, it was Fox who broke it down into Five.
NeoJul 3rd 2006, 14:44
It'll be best if they'd do two production seasons and air them as one so then we will finally have a 1 on 1 ratio of the production/airing seasons and end this foolish story once and for all.

Get on with it alrady! I WANT MY FUTURAMA!!!

For that mp3 I kept talking about, here :

Plan A - link : images . slashdot . org / articles / 06 / 06 / 29 / billy_west . mp3

Cut the spaces and paste in browser.

Plan B - go to slashdot . com (again cut the spaces); type "Billy West" in the search filed, press the search button; the first article should be something like "Ask Futurama Star Billy West About...?", click it; in the article look for "MP3 voice montage" link text, click it, download it, listen to it.

If it's any help to you : Enjoy joy joy!!!

If you this doesn't work that, that means either you/me are an idiot and/or CGEF posting system sucks.
simpsonsloverJul 3rd 2006, 17:50
You are all a bunch of pathetic trolls! there was a reason why fox cancelled this show in the 1st place-no one f..king watched! Simpsons on fox rules!!!!! ... !!!!!!!!!!
AnonymousJul 3rd 2006, 18:02
Well simpsonslover, apparently people do watch it, why the hell else would it be getting better and better ratings recently? Why else would there be news of it returning?
I used to love The Simpsons too, but now the show has gotten SO stale, there have even been occasions when they used jokes from old episodes (and I don't mean the running jokes, like Homer strangling Bart).
Anyway, why on Earth are you even here? Do you honestly think you're proving anything by trolling on a site about a show that you don't like? Well yes, you are; you're proving you're a loser with way too much damn time on your hands. If you don't want to see this news, then don't come to this site. Simple as that.
simpsonslover, whether or not you want to believe it, someone, somewhere, likes something that you loathe. HOLY SH*T! No way! That's blasphemy! </sarcasm>

Get a life. As far as the rest of us, we're welcoming Futurama back with open arms. :)

bowlingforillidanJul 4th 2006, 17:11
Simpsons passed its use-by date sometime around season 10, even the show's voice actors have admitted the slide. Hopefully Futurama will stay fresh longer given the SF setting, but some plot lines are already a little stretched.
e.g. how much further can they drag out the Fry-Leela love thing?

(search 'Futurama' and 'Simpsons')

don't feed the troll, people...

bowlingforillidanJul 4th 2006, 17:32
sorry forgot the no-links policy. That search reference is for the 'jumptheshark' website
Sk8PrOJul 4th 2006, 18:35
I think that in the first episode of the new ones, there will be something that will torn apart the Fry-Leela thingy, so it can last for more episodes.

oh, and bring an Anthology of Interests at the end of this season, I missed them :)
BanditRulerJul 4th 2006, 21:35
*speechless*
NeoJul 4th 2006, 23:18
bowlingforillidan I'm with you mon!

Seriously it drag for too freaking long, thay made Leela look like a heratless "I have NO ideea of what true LOVE is" bitch(not that sometimes she just IS anyway). Need I say more? :)

Anyway Futurama ROCK THE F@CK ON!!!
Into a better future! With ZERO bullsh*t this time.

Or maybe you ment tore but put the 'stress' on Leela's side now, I that case sorry, my apologies.

Sk8PrOJul 5th 2006, 04:47
#210 : I think I didn,t write properly what i wanted to tell, English isn't my native language :)

I mean that there's got to be something that will separate the relations between Leela and Fry, so it can last longer.

Because IMO there is far more potentially good jokes or plot that Fry can do to conquer even more Leela's love.
hkpecKerJul 5th 2006, 04:56
Probably #213, but I would like to see them not do that, its too predicatable if they did do that if you understand what i mean.
RonnieJul 5th 2006, 07:01
Wait I'm confused now. Are we getting new episodes of futurama AND the movies, OR are we just getting the movies and then the movies will be split up into episodes (ala FG), OR are we not getting the movies anymore because they've been turned into 16 episodes instead of the movie format???
SocceroosJul 5th 2006, 10:01
#215 - we don't know... all reports suggest that they will be normal episodes, and the movies have been put on hold - however many of us still think that the reporters got it confused and we will be getting 16 episodes, which will then be released as 4 movies.

I wouldn't be suprised if in the new episodes Fry and Leela have started dating, but probably 2 or 3 episodes in they will break-up and we will go back to how the situation was in the early episodes.
LaurenJul 5th 2006, 12:31
Any news/ideas on when it will be aired in England? I am sooo excited that I'm on the verge of kissing my boss at work and he's an ass.

ALL RIGHT!! i've been waiting like three years to hear this news
NeoJul 5th 2006, 15:42
#214 I DO understand you bro, read my earlier post for more detail.
I'd realy appreciate if they'd 180 degree turn the plot this time(a look from Leela's side now, maybe?), spice sh*t up, otherwise I don't know how to tell you 4 years is a absurdly long for ANY realationship to form, espeacilly when you look at how it kicked in back in Space Pilot 3000 & co.

It's just that at that side of the story, things are getting way to frustrating and complicted for no other apparent reason than CHEAP DRAMA + STUPID CONTINUITY = CRAP.

Remember that time should continue between episodes, 72 of them for 3-4 years is very little, and barely covers basic stuff, because most of the time is reserved for humor.

Huzzah! FUTURAMA!!!
ThatGuyJul 5th 2006, 16:45
What ever is on that show, it the only thing I've ever wanted. CC is a shark, sharks don't look back, because they don't have necks!
RonnieJul 5th 2006, 20:41
why am i not getting messages 202-220 on my screen?
Sk8PrOJul 5th 2006, 23:05
#219 : now I see your point, and I thnik that you are right. And seeing it on the Leela side would be great, but not too much, since IMO Fry as greater character developpement.

Anyway, we'll se.

oh and don't forget, AOI 3 for the last episode :) And this time put a question from Zoidberg :)
NeoJul 6th 2006, 15:59
#222 : Thanks, atleast I found someone who shares similar ideas. It's not that I don't think Fry's character development isn't great, it's greatest, Fry is the best, but I already know enought(for the moment) about him. Both Bender and Leela lack very good char development, especially Leela concering the Fry-Leela thing, the way they presented her, we don't know much, aside that she's a bossy meat creature. :) So hopefuly they'll shed some new light on these characters, cause I'm thinking I might've got the wrong picture.

And let's not forget the other characters, I want to see something about Hermes and his background, as well as about him and LaBarbarra.

And in one of the AOI stories I'd like to see something concerning Amy & Kif's "future".
Also some more Bender & Fry adventures.

And how you said it... we'll see :)

BTW, I did like how you said "last episode" :p, no nut seriously, the series is FULLY coming back. Not just for the 13-22 episodes/movies/ep+movies.
NeoJul 6th 2006, 16:17
So in other words you said it like it'll end(again) before it even (re)started.

No more stupid cancelations this time. It's here to stay... right?

Hey let's see how long can this thread go, maybe we'll atract atention or atleast we'll end up locking-up the server :p , atleast until we get anoter one with FABOLOUS CRABULOUS news!!!
BobCoopJul 6th 2006, 18:33
This is the best news in a long time. When the news aired last night about the new shows, my phone started ringing. All my friends are really excited and can hardly wait. We all have been waiting for this great news. We hope the show will go on for years and years. Love that Bender!!
NeoJul 6th 2006, 19:15
Yeah it is, unless they(Matt & co.) screw it up.

"When the news aired last night about the new shows" could you, or anyone who seend that, tell me exactly what they say? I don't catch those promos, in fact I don't catch the hole damn channel at all. :)

"We hope the show will go on for years and years"
For years? For at long as it's possible... which can mean anything from nothing to forever. Let's hope it's forever! :p

"Love that Bender!!"
Yeah, well who doesn't? He's the only character that you simply can't hate! Not like Zapp or Cubert or Leela or other twitchy ones, who just piss you of sometimes.

Also, about this news thread, I was dead sure that the new "Billy West's Interview at Slashdot", would kick in today or soon enought. Now let's support that untill the next GREAT NEWS! Maybe something from Matt this time, with fresh new aterial. :)

LindsayJul 7th 2006, 03:05
This is the best news eva.
wahinijaneJul 7th 2006, 04:11
"bite my shiny metal ##s" - who gives a brain slug what characters get developed, as long as it's as funny as all the other episodes. just celebrate that someone was finally smart enough to put futurama back on!

MartyJul 7th 2006, 06:25
I'm from Australia and yeh Futurama didn't take off as such but i am so thrilled to hear this news. Thank God, Fox are gay anyway
MonoxXxideChildJul 7th 2006, 11:33
two words........hellz yea
Sk8PrOJul 7th 2006, 22:26
#228 : If Futurama can develop even better humour, characters developpement, emotions and satire than the first 4 seasons, it will be even better that just being more "funny".
SandsquidJul 8th 2006, 09:20
Futurama returns! I have a reason to live again!
BecJul 8th 2006, 10:14
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO! cant wait! so awesome! hey you know on the DVD comentaries how sometimes david or someone will read an email they got, or read a post from fans, where are they getting this from? does futurama have an official site that they look through or something?
MunKyJul 8th 2006, 22:32
They have mentioned this site on the commentaries. i cant remember which episode. When I go on leave I'll find out.
Sk8PrOJul 8th 2006, 22:37
And David mentionned his email in Roswell that ends Well commentaries if I am not mistaken.

RayBotJul 10th 2006, 00:13
This is incredible news! I'm so happy to be able to see the Planet Express crew again. This show is the funniest thing on TV and it deserves a second, third, and even a fourth chance if need be! Keep them coming!

Now how about that show called "MST3K"?.... ;-P
Krueger16Jul 10th 2006, 03:29

doginaspacesuitJul 12th 2006, 12:26
GREAT this is very good news I bought all the episodes on DVD hopefully is advertised more in Australia if it does come out because I did not know of Futurama until a couple of years after it started.
Oh and one final comment... BURP
fydiousJul 14th 2006, 23:07
futurama never got as funny as the simpsons season 4 and five. and there were already some really bad eps starting to show up in the fourth season(bend her). that isn't to say that there weren't unfunny eps in the earlier season but come on. that plot is just retarded. the simpsons was good for about 10 years and i don't think any other show has came close to matching that. i seriously doubt that futurama could pull it off. if they don't have all the same writers that they had on vol. 4 then the show will probably suck. most of you really need to learn basic grammer as well.
AnonymousJul 15th 2006, 02:41
I don't think someone's going to take lessons on grammar from someone who can't even spell 'grammar', doesn't put capitals on words after a period, doesn't put two spaces after a period, and is too lazy to type "episodes" out in full.
As for how funny the show is, it comes down to opinion. Personally I used to prefer The Simpsons but now I find Futurama MUCH better, especially considering just how terrible the new episodes of The Simpsons have been. Plus I think The Simpsons has way too many characters with the same basic traits (i.e. fat, stupid, and/or drunk; any combination of those 3, really).
AnonymousJul 15th 2006, 04:43
I take back the gripe about the two-spaces-after-a-period thing; I think that has something to do with CGEF's posting system.
HappyPhilJul 16th 2006, 02:14
Sweet llamas in the Bahamas!
I'm re-watching my Futurama DVD collection with the joy of knowing there's more to come.

13 new episodes is a much better idea than a daring, daylight robbery of Fort Knox on elephant-back. Thank God for Comedy Central!
BranniganJul 16th 2006, 19:19
I just spat my slurp all over my monitor! Hopefully nothing will change and all the characters re back.

Zapp and Bender are comedy gold!
SmilodonJul 16th 2006, 21:02
I'm confused by this entry. Does this mean that there are only four new episodes or sixteen?

pastelstormJul 19th 2006, 20:44
If a new season comes out that would be really awesome. But I guess we'll have to just wait and see if this will really happen. When the series ends eventually again, will they be able to top The Devil Hand's are Idle Playthings?
simpsonsloverJul 19th 2006, 20:56
Everyone who likes this show is a pathetic loser. I,for one, will not watch one minute of any of the new 22 episodes.

I wish Fox could have gotten the new episodes. Then they could bring back Animation Domination... I say, they should get rid of that other show, War at Home.
rimmerJul 23rd 2006, 13:02
hey simpsonslover!! if you hate futurama so much how come you know about the new episodes? you could only have known that if you frequent futurama web sites. think about it(or dont its your choise ya smeghead)
FabioJul 24th 2006, 07:53

If the show does come back (which I have my doubts), I hope the writers use this opportunity to clean up their mess and do the right thing, finally bringing back Seymour from the "Jurassic Bark" episode. After all, for all I know his dolemited body still lies dormant at the 'lava basement', waiting to be relived again!

...I know, I know, I heard the "dead should remain dead, in real life people (or dogs) don't come back..." argument before, but hey people, this is not reality, it's a friggin' SF cartoon show, and Seymour deserves a little happiness after SUFFERING for TWELVE LONG LONELY YEARS waiting for that stupid Fry! If the writers don't want to add the dog as a new character to the show (although I think it *would* be nice to have another pet to interact with Nibbler), just bring him back at the last 30 seconds of the last programmed episode from season 6 or 'production season 5' or whatever. C'mon guys, it's not that hard! Give Seymour a chance! You'll still have to explain how he managed to get fossilized in dolemite, though... Hey, I get it! He was hit by a dolemite meteorite a couple seconds after the end of the "Jurassic Bark" episode...

hold on a mo, does this mean fry and leela are going to not get together again, and then nearly get together and make everyone cry again (or is that just me)? nah, only kidding, great news. And is leela deaf or what? man, season 4 ended in the most orgasmically brilliant way, they're going to have to do it all again.

Seriously, though, this should be fun. I'm going to genetically engineer albino gorillas to shout the good news from the rooftops.

JuddjustafanNov 18th 2006, 05:37
You know I bought the series in it's entirety and watch it religiously, probably because every time I watch it I notice something new. In fact I watch it on my DVD in the car when I'm stuck in stop and go for an hour. Seriously folks, if you listen to the commentary and I'm sure you have, one gets further into the realm of what was put into this series, simply astounding how much untapped comedy is here. I was worried that CC was picking up the series in stead of FOX, ya see without that prime time money, Sunday between 7:30 and 9 pm on Fox they won't receive the same funding. If they don't receive the same funding then they might not be able to get the same directors, voice overs or be able to afford the costs of the actual voices of the guest like Al Gore (himself) or Nichelle Nichols (Star Treks Uhura)or God forbid the special effects. See, when some show come back you notice that not so much time was spent on the 3D or sound and one really begins to notice the difference. Plus if Matt Groening and David X. Cohen aren't so available and hand the project over to some up and coming who might botch the job or not take so many risks. I know I'm a spoil sport but I hope this move doesn't ruin a perfect thing, I simply wish it wasn't cancelled before and I recall Matt saying that Futurama was everything that the Simpsons wasn't. I hope he still feels the same way. I'm so stoked and I'll probably get the extra extendend basic that I didn't want because it offered me nothing worth the extra 40$ a month. It will be worth it now.
hmmmmmmmNov 25th 2006, 05:25
13 episodes. 4 movies.

therefore 16 episodes?

FrylockNov 28th 2006, 20:07
Lol. Nice to see somebody up there can add.. but then, I believe its 4 "movies" which will be pieced up into 4 episodes each for broadcast on CC. (making a total of sixteen episodes.)

But I agree, this is a great reason to celebrate.. although, I fail to see why they are giving it to CC and not FOX.. or even CN's Adult Swim where it currently makes its home. I hope the quality is equal or better than the fantastic episodes of the past...

*crosses fingers for the same VA's*

I wish I could be frozen until the year 2008! I just started watching Futurama this year, and I was instantly hooked! What a great show!

I even stay up to watch Futurama from 2am-3am every weekday night that its on adult swim. (I always miss the earlier shows)

Please, make 1000's of Futurama episodes.
DavidClarkeMay 15th 2007, 05:31
OH MY GOD :D

I can truthfully say i've seen every single last aired episode atleast 3times each up to 10 times on some of them. I used to watch it every airing on fox, and i watch it every night on Adult Swim when my satilite abides my wishes.

Its such smart comedy, and nobody in my small school really picks up on the subtleties. I am however bitter that it didn't go to Adult Swim(although that is kinda a shitty time frame for it to be in) or even FOX.

I can't wait for 2008 for this to come out, in the mean time i think i'll buy all the dvd box sets, the one i have got ruined by my friend's little brother...still waiting for him to pay me back >.>
