I hate anything widescreen and probably always will. My big screen tv is perfect for the traditional viewings of tv shows and full-screen movies but is awful for wide-screen viewings due to the fact that 80% of the screen turns black. It's too distracting.

I know there are many who like the presentation because they have wide-screen tvs and I'm fine with that because I work in a video store and can see both sides of the argument. But I prefer to at least have an option for full-screen.

As for you Canadian guys, The U.S. economy sucks right now. There are virtually no jobs left. A $29.98 price is awfully steep for us too. And I agree that the price variations suck.

Now that our dollar is higher, I am getting so sick of this price gouging bullshit. It's almost cheaoer to pay shipping and buy it from the US.

I've just pre-ordered this movie through the link on CGEF and bought it on Amazon I paid for priority shipping so I've basically just paid twice as much for shipping as for the DVD itself. It's more than worth it though, I've been waiting years for this. Plus it's more than two dollars to the pound right now so the exchange rate works in my favour really quite well...

As for the 2009 thing, surely that must be a typo and they mean 2008? They can't seriously mean that they'll release this one in 2007, then nothing is 2008 and then the next three in 2009. That would be absolutely stupid. It must be a typo and they meant 2008. Can anyone verify this?...

A little math for ya... A 16:9 picture (i.e. typical widescreen) on a 4:3 screen (i.e. standard) uses 75% of the available screen - leaving only 25% black. You're off by more than a factor of three.

You're right - because everyone who wants a job pretty much has one. The unemployment rate is the lowest it's been since 2000 (and half of what it's historically been) - the only people not working are those either inbetween jobs, retired, or purposefully on welfare.

Your "facts" are contradicted by easily obtainable published information and grade school math. I'll leave it to you to figure out which applies where.

If the DVD is in a 16:9 aspect ratio, it is full screen. That other aspect ratio is less than full screen, since it doesn't use the DVD format's entire horizontal resolution, and since it forces TVs to add bars on the side.

As for people losing jobs in Michigan, that's pretty much to be expected when you put all your chips on the auto industry and hand the reins over to the UAW, elect Jenny Granholm repeatedly, send clowns like Conyers to Congress, and allow a national city to decay into a regional travel impediment. When they say four more episodes "through" 2009 they mean that the first will come out in 2007 and they will release the next three periodically through 2009...meaning that most likely two of them will come out in 2008 and the fourth coming out in 2009.

First of all, I've always voted against Granholm. Secondly you can't blame all people for the way Michigan works. The rich control everthing and that is why there are no jobs here-outsourcing, downsizing, ect. Plus, most people I know have nice homes that are well managed. Every state has slums and scumbags . But to say that Michigan is the only state where there are slums proves you're biased and very lacking in common sense. If you don't live in this state you have no real perspective to make a comment.

I have whiny customers all the time just like most of you. Some are actually very intelligent while others think they know everything and everyone else is dumb.(I aced the math portion of the SATs, so I know my math. The 80% comment was an obvious joke that even my 8 year old laughed at.) I already knew the black on top black on bottom decreases if you zoom in, but It takes away from the quality of the screen. Did you not read where I wrote "I can see both sides of the argument"?

Finally, I find it humorous that of all the websites I visit, this is the only non-chat room where fans of that show or subject can't even get along with each other. I think the other three DVDs are set for release in 2009 because the chopped versions will be airing as episodes on Comedy Central throughout 2008. It makes sense for them to want to air the episodes before they come out on DVD (better ratings that way, and we want high ratings so they'll order MORE new episodes!)

This is fantastic news but I agree with the non-North Americans here in that there's people in Europe, Australasia and other places who would give their eye teeth to watch this new DVD. Is a Region 2 or 4 release due or will be have to import and watch on a multi-region device?

Surely you would rather just import it than give your eye teeth. Thet's what I'm doing. With priority shipping it should only take between 2-4 days after the American release date for me to have and watch this in England!...

Either way you look at it, Canadian or US price, $30 and $38 is still a lot of money for ist copared to how much more you get per dollar with the Season sets. But those numbers released by the press releases as the official prices are always way too high. The only places that will sell it for the t much will probably be like book stores and certain websites and such. Amazon already has it listed for $20 and usually Best Buy and Target are simularyly priced. Plus Best Buy and Target might have it on sell for even lower on the release day as they comonly do. This movie is already on the top of my Christmas list but if I see it for less than $20 than I'm just going to buy it myself.

If the movies are being released in wide-screen, does that mean that if they are eventually combined into a "season" set that they will be in wide-screen as well.

It almost seems like they won't. I hope not because I'm eager to see the (hopefully forth coming)new season.

It's disappointing to see such a high MSRP and a lack of Bender action figure or whatever to encourage buying the disc instead of d/l'ing it. If this is how they're handling things I strongly, and sadly, suspect that no more Futurama will appear after these four if it depends on disc sales.

Imho they would have made a lot more $ if they sold them for $10 (the price of a movie ticket) in a bare cardboard case and a collector's edition in a plastic case with action figure for $20+.

Changing subject for a moment here, I have a question regarding the current WGA strike. Does anyone know what effect it will have on the production of the remaining three DVDs?

It's generally thought that the other three movies are already completed. I think.

@ MaxEvans: It won't. The movies are already written and are being animated and animation isn't covered by the WGA(actually, the writing isn't covered by the branch of the WGA that's that's striking. I'm not sure how it works, but I've read articles about striking writers going onto animated projects to earn some extra dough). If the WGA strike ends and the strikers "win", they'll get more of the DVD profits, though.

It is confirmed that the dialouge for all 4 movies has been recorded already. What worries me is if there needs to be any changes in the script, for example re-records etc that might not be able to happen until after the strike. Also DVD extras, things like the Hynotoad extra on this DVD will have had to be written, and if the other three DVD's have similar extras then will the strikes effect these?...

Hooray Futurama is back! I just wish there was an Australian release date.. also to anyone who is interested they have a trailer for Benders Big Score on YouTube, i don't know where it came from but its worth a look :)

Wish I could. I'm in Europe myself. But there just is no decision yet.
