My GOD, it was awesome!

Saw it last night! All I can say is WOW! Really loved the story and liked how they added to the backstory of many Futurama stories and characters. I can't say more without creating a spoiler. Four thumbs up!

Finally more content! It was great to see all the characters again and a new story. Tons of extras on the dvd as well. Can't wait until the next dvd.

My God, the best part was the "Trinity that went to war". It was done so well! This movie was amazing, it even had a Slurms McKenzie Allusion!

I was so excited to watch the new Futurama that I think I set the bar too high for myself. Even though the movie was "okay," I didn't think it was great. It felt lacking in a few area's & the musical numbers were a let down for me. Don't get me started on the Chaunaka Zombie!
Anyway, I really hope this movie helps Futurama come back on the air. I truly miss it & hope that they can get back on track with new episodes. I just hope their not as mediocre as this one was.

nuts to that last comment. i was amazed how it started, how it lasted and how it ended... you know the next dvd is going to pick up right where that left off.. CAN NOT WAIT!

Nice to see some new Futurama again!

I hope these are not spoilers (but if you haven't seen the movie yet, look the other way), but two things I like to say, are:

1. I didn't like the lecture, over and over again: not to give away your email address and credit card number. For a while I thought this was a promotional video instead of an exciting Futurama movie!

2. I thought - hey, they must be on a budget to let Billy West do yet another (new!) character. Did I have egg on my face as I didn't see 'it' coming :)

Can't wait for the second movie!

I actually found myself not enjoying the romantic part of the storyline as the movie progressed(what can I say, I'm on Fry's side when it comes to that story) but once it got to the ending, I had nothing to complain about! I absolutely LOVE this movie! Cannot wait 6 months for the next one, hope it turns out to be sooner :P

Watched it yesterday,since then have seen it 2 times with the commentary and 1nce without. love the movie entirly , also , any word about there being a new seasons or are the movies only new episodes?

I thought it was excellent. MUCH better than I had imagined.

*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD* I ALMOST didn't see the Lars twist coming but I got it relatively early on. I thought the love story was touching... Futurama writers know how to tug at my heart strings. I mean, now that Leela KNOWS it was Fry... doesn't anyone wonder how that will affect their relationship in the next movie? They didn't really say what's going to happen to them.

The musical numbers were a bit dull, but still... the movie was great. I really thought they did a terrific job with the story. It's nice to see Fry and the rest of the gang back. :)

I thought the movie was pretty poor and didn't live up to Futurama's quality at all. I wanted to enjoy it, but I just couldn't.

Overall I thought it was good. The only things I didn't care for were:

1) The musical numbers really weren't that good

2) Did we really need cameos from almost every single character ever in Futurama? I mean come on. It's not like we forgot them

Overall, I did enjoy it. I really hope these movies sell well enough for FOX to bring the series back. Come on FOX, you brought back Family Guy and that doesn't hold a candle to Futurama! Everyone make sure to buy a copy or 10 for everyone you know for Christmas!

To DantheMAN *Spoiler**** I didn't think Leela knew it Lars was Fry at the end... neither of them did. That's why she wasn't with him at the end. It's futurama style to let Fry never get the girl haha... but they are 3 more dvds maybe he'll land her. The movie was awesome and full of twist the writers really are amazing... keep up the work!!! haha says email optinal here... I think i learned a thing about spam from the movie.

The movie was a let down...don't get me wrong, everyone should buy it and it was amazing seeing new Futurama, but it wasn't up to snuff. I agree with everyone above that the musical numbers were not good. I think the opening was really strong and funny, but found they got too caught up in the timetraveling story to keep the jokes coming. It was also a big mistake to have Bender in obedient mode for the whole movie rather than be his normal self (who is much funnier). All complaints aside, I think that the next movie looks sooo much better! The preview had funnier jokes than this whole movie did. I think this DVD was Futurama progresses the story and adding to the mythos, whereas the next just looks like plain fun.

Completely sold out in Portland, Oregon today. I've called five places trying to find a copy, nobody has it. I didn't have money to preorder, so now I am sad and soaking up spoilers. Blah.

So, basically every store in Minneapolis had sold out of the DVD by late Tuesday. Is this the story everywhere? Are there sales figures anywhere that anybody knows of? The stronger the numbers are, the more likely we are to see even more funding for future episodes/movies/content.

I didn't see the Lars thing coming at all.

I thought the music numbers were ok, not bad, not awesome, though :P

And Bender was not in obedient mode "the whole movie"...Maybe half, and he was still very funny in obedient mode.

Movie was excellent!
Was slightly dissapointed by the Lars thing, you could see it coming from the start, and they shouldn't have told you for definate he was fry at the wedding, they should have waited till the end (which looking at some comments some people obviously weren't watching the movie close enough to realise the hints all the way through the film and thought it was a revelation).
True the songs were weak, but I still thought they were good.
Improvement I hope they make for next film: More jokes faster.
One last thing, I loved the joke "What will this mean for us and our many fans?"

Having watched the movie three times now (once with commentary -- which is actually quite good), you can tell the writers are in a difficult spot of making four episodes into a movie. They did decent, not great with it. That being said, I enjoyed the movie more on my second and third showing. There are tons of gags that you have to work for, thus leaving the story upfront to either shine or fail (depending on what you thought of the movie). I saw the twist coming from scene one I'm afraid. It didn't hurt the movie for me, but on first viewing I kept wondering when everyone else in the show was going to figure it out. Still, the journey was quite enjoyable. I give it a weak seven out of ten (which is pretty darn good).

If you're a Futurama fan, buy the DVD (as if you haven't already). If you're a casual [adult swim] Futurama fan, it's worth picking up. If you aren't a Futurama fan (and for some reason you're on this site), this DVD isn't going to make you a fan. The story is involved and most of the jokes are either for fans of the show or for the really quick minded of us. Enjoy!

Great movie, loved it, thought the first song was uninspired but the second (Santa's factory) was brilliant.

As for the big twist, there had to be some genetic commonality between Lars/Fry from the start, based on the way the characters were drawn. It was only later I picked just how much commonality there was, but I assumed some shared family tree from the start.

All in all an excellent movie, way better than I expected I think, because I was expecting a let-down. 8.5/10.

I'm one of the few I think who felt that the movie was god-awful. It was like watching an animated version of one of the Bongo comics. It just didn't have the "feel" of the original series (although that could be because the writers, voice actors, etc. hadn't done the show in like 5 years). I hated the raping and pillaging of classic episodes like SP3K, TLOF, and JB, to name a few, and 99% of it was just to get a cheap laugh. Also, Fry sounded horse throughout the entire movie, and I'm not talking about Lars. Unfortunately this was hardly the glorious return for Futurama I was hoping for.

i thought the movie was good the 1st time but great on the second and third viewing.

i didn't see the twist with lars coming although when my little brother whatched it, he suspected apparently, but it think i enjoyed it more for not having seen it coming and it certainly increased the re-watchability factor.

as for the music i always hate songs in which the characters start singing because it seems childish to me, but i thought the musical number that plays when fry almost gets blown up - through to the funeral near the end was great, i actually can't stop singing it!

Overall I enjoyed it. I think that for the most part it blended decently (though not perfectly) with the old episodes. I've never really liked the love story between Fry and Leela... because there really isn't one. Leela has only been romantically interested in Fry when he hasn't been himself. Even when she did marry him in "Time Keeps On Slippin'", she had it annulled as soon as she could. If the "love story" between them serves any real purpose at all, it's to drive home just how stupid Fry really is... because he just doesn't get it. *SPOILER* Even at the end of the new movie, it seemed that her view of Fry didn't change... she merely acknowledged that Fry as Lars was a good man.

At first i found the pacing a bit off, but I just watched it the second time. Pacing for a 20-odd-minute show versus a 90-minute show will obviously be different. Also, you ought to expect that after a couple of years, it'll take a bit to get back into the groove--just compare the first episode of the series with the last to see what I mean.

Now, A BURNING QUESTION!

During the dating montage, which features the outstanding "bubble sequence," there is some great music playing.

Is it by Christopher Tyng, or does someone here recognize it from some other source?

Loved the movie! I'm watching it again for the second time today, and I just bought it this morning. got to admit I wasn't happy about the whole Leela and Lars romance but when I found out it was Fry I thought it was awsome. Let's hope Fry gets the girl some day

Yes this episode felt *different* to me the first time I watched it. I think it's because I've seen the old episodes about a dozen times each, so they feel familiar. Once I watched this one the second time, it felt more familiar, more "in the groove" of the older episodes. Give it time, it will grow on you.

***spoiler*** I thought nibbler's scenes were a little cheesy, including the attack scene which seemed pointless. I'm also concerned that nibbler's ability to talk was revealed, and never erased from anyone's memory, and it barely seemed to phase everyone. how can he just start talking, and no one reacts?

As soon as I saw Lars onscreen I said to my sister 'He looks just like Fry!' then about 10 minutes later it clicked. But that's okay, I still quite enjoyed it. I felt the end was a little dragged, but overall I really enjoyed it. :)

No compaints whatsoever. Definately better as you watch it more & more. Lets all face it, we, the fans, have to adjust to new mateial as well. How many times have we all watched the first run on tv & DVD? Our familiarity with them is huge!The movies & new shows will fall into place. "Bring it on BABY!!"

This sold out in Boston also, I just wanted to see price as I'll likely get it at xmas. Arrived by Netflix and watched most of it, but suspect it'll improve with additional viewings as folks have reviewed. Hypnotoad also a let down.

Not what I expected, could have been a lot better, I'm hoping that this one was more of a setup for the following movies. story had no flow, it jumped around to much in too big of an area, it needed more focus. On the up side, I'll take all the new Futurama I can get..Good or not so good, it still was better than most other things on tv,.especially American Dad,can't stand to watch it, perfect time slot for Futurama.

Bad Futurama is better than Good American Dad any day of the week.

Having said that, despite what some have said in these very comments; the movie, far from being a let-down, was a great success. Yesterday on my second viewing, I was just getting to all the little freeze frame jokes (like Cartman & John Stewart in the head museum), laughing out loud at the obvious ones, and wondering what will happen in the next movie. Glad to have Futurama back, and in full form.

One thing though: was it really necessary to have Hermes do a roll call at the beginning and then roll credits where we get to see everyones name again? This seemed redundant and not really in the spirit of the old episodes. Anyone else think so?

Yeah, I didn't mind the roll call at the beginning, but didn't really like it in the credits. Actually, it's not that I didn't like the idea, I just didn't like the execution. It felt like the shots of the characters were completly thrown in. They didn't fit in with the intro at all. I love the modified intro music though. And speaking of music, although I'm sad there was no orchestra, I really liked the song during the "bubble sequence" and the montage of Fry starting over in the 21st century.

Overall, I thought it was great. I think most of my gripes can be explained with the fact that they were not working with the same budget as before.

Did anyone else notice the animation seemed a little blurry sometimes? Especially around characters' eyes?

Well I think I may have been the opposite of most Futurama fans in that I was really worried the movie would be terrible. I was mainly concerned it would become like the Simpsons or Family Guy a season or two back, forced stories, forced jokes, and forced preachy liberalism. It was none of those things and so it blew my expectations away.

There were some faults but that is too be expected seeing as the haven't written any shows in 4 years. Its definitely not up there with the 4 best Futurama episodes but I can't see how anyone could place it with the worst. Overall I think any review placing it between an 8.0 and 8.9 is pretty fair. Its certainly a must buy for anyone who has any interest in Futurama since whatever you think about the movie it does comprise the best 4 Futurama episodes of 2007.

The next movie looks way Better and YES it does pick up right where the 1st left off with the big rift in the sky. There's an article/interview with David X Cohen on ign that talks about the next 3 movies.

I have never been so satisfied to see so much intimate Futurama behind-the-scenes coverage in my entire life. Thank you, CGEF for satisfying my inner film-nerd.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE MOVIE!! yeah, the entrance roll call was pretty cheesy, and that first song kinda sucked, but I LOVED the confusing love story and loved that I didn't have to wait to watch the whole thing through episodes to get thru the whole Lars story. I have all 4 seasons and now this movie, but I would totally buy the other 3 off the black-market if that meant i could see them tomorrow.. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?!! Oh i cannot friggin wait!

I love this movie! Not the best episodes but surely not the like the cryonic woman or the one with zoidberg's uncle. I loved Al Gore's "One Gallon of Gas" line. I agree about the first musical being bad but the second was actually good to me. Nibbler talking could of been left out. it just felt out of place and didn't surprise anyone of the characters. I know we all can agree that it is great to have Futurama back!! Whimmy-wham-wham-whazle

So happy to see this back, preordered but unfortunantly I originally had it shipped with my copy of the Simpsons movie, which won't be shipped for a while, so I fixed the shipping but ended up getting it last night out of the Redbox. I tried getting it all last week anywhere rental-wise here in St. Louis but they were all sold out. I hope that this sends a message to FOX and everyone else that this still is a marketable franchise that has dedicated fans.

Anyways loved the movie, but as it has been previously stated, I really missed the true Bender for most of the movie and even when he was the real bender, he didn't seem to have the right feel.

In my opinion this has to be seen as a warm up, pulling the old fans back and give the new ones all the backround information they need to folow upcoming movies.
But for someone who has never seen futurama before many jokes won't hit the spot.

Summing it up I rate it as a pilot movie to an upcoming series and not like an independent episode. Having that said the movie is really good but the next one has to be a highlight in the futurama universe, otherwise alot of fans will be disappointed.

I liked the leela lars thing, because thats probably the only part of the movie that should be taken seriously. In the movie and the series you see it is a little stupidity but mostly because of immaturity that fry is fry. Lars was the grown up version of fry. I noticed the second time around i saw that fry started progressing like "lars" did. Finally coming to the maturity that even though he loves leela he knows that she loves lars and needs to let her go and move on(near the end when fry forces a tearful meeting between lars and leela in the cryo building.) At the end she knew lars was fry, lars was the man she fell in love with but at the same time knowing fry is lars. I dont think anything will happen between them until fry matures and turns, personality wise, into lars.

I thought the Toyshop going to war was funny, the others not so much, they just seemed like they tried to be funny but were just dumb.

The movie answered one of the big questions on my mind. In Jurrasic Bark did anyone notice at the end the dog "died" laying down? but when they found him he was standing up? Well it got answered in this movie. And i liked that a lot.

A little slow in the beginning, but once it got rolling I absolutely loved it.

Whimmy Wham Wham Whazzle!

This movie was better than any episode of Futurama I can remember, and having seen every episode at least 5 times, if not more, that's saying something. The first 3 minutes had me laughing so hard I had to pause just incase I missed something. Definitely something I'll watch again and again.

I saw it a while back now, I thought it ruled!!!
I suspected the Lars was Fry thing within the first scene with him.
He sounded similar and looked like fry. and I already knew from trailers that time travel was in the story

I think the movie is okay at best. I expected better.

I didn't really enjoy the additional crudeness in some parts including the "Why are you looking at my penis?" and the rather gruesome beheading of Hermes. I thought that the Niblonions getting beaten by folding chairs was disappointing.

And, in fact, I didn't like the entire SPAM theme of the movie, or the aliens, really. All in all, there wasn't much substance and it wasn't funnier than one regular Futurama episode. Too much of the movie was reminiscing back, and too little was originally funny. You pretty much need to know Futurama to "get" the movie, instead of the usual Futurama episode where you have some episode references, but the episode has enough original material to stand on its own. Not so here, in my opinion.

Sorry for so much negativity here. I just expected much more.

Anyway, I hope this helps Futurama get back on TV, and that the next movies will be much much better, at least up to par with the episodes. Thing is, I think Futurama is better suited for its original episode format.

Instead of splitting a movie up into episodes maybe the writers should write the movies more as individual episodes joined by as thin a string as possible, or better yet, just make episodes!

Here's hoping for much better Futurama movies and/or episodes to come!

I agree that the jokes were not as common and strong as most episodes but futurama never was all comedy. It had it's serious episodes too. I thought this movie was a great blend of the serious and the comedy. Futurama hasn't changed a bit. The movie was just as great as all the episodes.
