Futurama to move to Comedy Central

After several years of regular showings on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, Futurama is about to move to Comedy Central. Starting January 2nd, the 72 episodes of the original Futurama run are going to be shown Wednesdays through Fridays between 8pm and 9pm ET. Comedy Central also holds the rights to show the 4 new Futurama movies with Bender's Big Score scheduled for the first quarter of 2008.

UPDATE: Unlike stated in their press release, it looks like they are airing Futurama Mon - Fri at 9PM EST with two episodes on Friday and repeats around 12AM/12:30AM on Tuesday.

But Futurama is about to end!

I still watch the televised episodes to help with ratings but David X. Cohen has said movie four is the end.

The Adult Swim Family Guy/Futurama block was the best hour of tv anywhere and changing it is going to probably lose viewers.

It pains me to hear that the fourth movie is the series finale. I am so onboard with the show returning to normal like the Griffins did.

When Fox renewed episodes for Family Guy I was so happy because it meant the possible return of the most Nibblericious show ever to get cancelled.

I suggest that my fellow Futurama fans and I reach out to Family Guy fans for their support to bring the show back into regular rotation on tv. If anyone understands the waiting and pleading for renewel it's these guys.

I can't belive that Dora the explorer is still on, but not Futurama.
jasperDec 31st 2007, 01:09
Well, in a way, it may continue, depending on ratings. He said that it was the finale, but how many of them would return if the opportunity presented itself?
BillDec 31st 2007, 02:11
Where did DXH say that movie 4 was the end? I know I read that if it is, that he and the crew are happy with how it ends, but I never read that its definitely the end and theres no chance at any other episodes/movies. I could see it easily doing good ratings on CC and having them order up new episodes. They could air them with South Park and do terrific ratings on Wednesday nights.
lalaDec 31st 2007, 03:28
ONLY wed. through fri.?

well at least theyre airing it a little earlier.
and i have a feeling the show will do well on CC because of the fact the new eps will be there.

i can see a bright future for futurama :)
jeffDec 31st 2007, 10:13
Maybe they are airing the episodes at that particular time to test the waters for a comeback? Or not. Anyway I think those the creators of Futurama had a fun time making it, so if an opportunity did arise to make new episodes they would go for it.
RobotDevilDec 31st 2007, 12:47
Too bad for me. I am a adult swim fan. I hated the show before I found it there, but now I watch it every night as I go to bed. This is most likly the end of it for me as the new schedule is not conveinient. If it means a new series down the road I can deal with it. But I think takeing it from the place that made it popular again is a terrible terrible move. I predict its gonna flop on CC. Only Time will tell.
MickeNDec 31st 2007, 15:46
This is all irrelevant, what is relevant is: When will BBS be released in Europe! :)
T-RolandDec 31st 2007, 16:48
I agree! Let's see some release days for Bender's Big Score over here. And also the release-dates for High-Def!
futuramaloverDec 31st 2007, 23:49
i loved futurama i hate that they took it off adult swim.....now there is no point for me to watch anything else on adult swim. and i agree that they are going to lose alot of viewers!!

billJan 1st 2008, 00:07
I agree that it might lose viewers, but I wouldn't be surprised if it actually gains them instead. I also would rather have it stay on Adult Swim at night, but they just couldn't afford it. I'm happy that futurama became popular enough to have such a huge asking price.
MelissaakaBendersfan1221Jan 1st 2008, 01:08
I have no doubt that Futurama will gain veiwer on CC. It's going to be on one the mpst watch stations during prime time. And if it's not convinient for you to watch Futruama on CC at 8-9 thenn shell out the $170 for the complete set or stop whining. I really want BBS on Hi-Def because that would look great on my HDTV. Boy I can't wait for the new episodes.
HedonismbotJan 1st 2008, 04:56
I'm definitely said to see the series leave Cartoon Network as well as the 11:00 PM weeknight time slot. But on the flipside, Comedy Central usually does pretty well with it's purchase of syndications. I guess they're going to treat Futurama like Scrubs, (one hour blocks), which is nice.

The way I'm looking at it though, if the series takes another step forward because of the Comedy Central purchase, I'll be like a Fry at a Star Trek convention, (yeah...that was cheesy - I know). If it ends up bombing, there's always hope that Cartoon Network could re-purchase a "beaten" cartoon and we're back to where we began - with 16 extra episodes! So it's kind of a win/win in my eyes.
timeskipJan 1st 2008, 12:36
I only paid $106 for the full set of DVDs, not $170.

As far as what channel it's on, I really don't care, as long as Comedy Central doesn't ruin it.
GrabnarJan 1st 2008, 19:13
Thank you. I knew this site had the next airing listed and I had NO IDEA when it was going to be on again. Anyway, I'm just glad it's back.
IdontknowJan 1st 2008, 21:11
Did anyone watch the final Ep on adult swim, and if so did they say or doing any thing, or did it just end and that was it.
KINGDAZBOBJan 1st 2008, 21:15
"futuramalover" f**k o*f, lol your obviously no fan of the show. cant wait for series 5, 6, 7, 8 and possibly 9! ha roll them on! x
imissufuturamatearsJan 1st 2008, 23:04
i am so relieved that it will be back on. i have been watching adult swim nonstop for the past couple of days to just make sure it was definitly cancelled from them. last night was the last night to watch it wich was pretty stupid cuz it was new years and i missed the last marathon bcuz i was ata party, when i came home after midnight, i realized that shin chan was on and i had missed the last marathon. i started to cry.i had actually cryed myseld to sleeep that nite.
AdgeJan 2nd 2008, 00:52
I was watching the last marathon last night, and then I fell asleep on Futurama cuz I was hecka tired...then when I woke up I saw Family Guy on the TV then I was like "....NOOOOOOOO!" Actually I liked Futurama on Adult Swim better because it's the Family Guy/Futurama block, and that means an hour of laughter and hilariousness lol. I just hope they replace Futurama with another funny show, and hopefully Futurama stays on Comedy Central for a long time
BenderboiJan 2nd 2008, 02:01
Knowing that Futurama is going to be on CC is a relief. I thought that I would have to go out now and buy the series, also "American Dad" is going to be on Adult Swim now - most likely as the replacement (DUH!)
TylerJan 2nd 2008, 04:46
I think its just good to hear that they are still airing it... i mean 8-9 is early i have activities and events that run during those times but i think i can afford dvr... but Futurama is one of the better shows that were on adult swim. At LEAST it is still on. could be all week but it is on that is all that matters. when i first saw the ad saying it wasn't going to be on any more i flipped out... but now im happy
markJan 2nd 2008, 05:15
i wish futurama would come back to reg tv i cant aford cable or sat this sucks
melissaJan 2nd 2008, 06:20
I definitly think that AS will lose viewers... fg and futurama are the best that they have...and what's with those other crappy shows they have now like dark place or whatever its called? I hope they get better shows.. and hopefully get futurama back! I would like new shows of futurama in the future.
superfanJan 2nd 2008, 07:26
Just checked the program guide for CC and they are showing the first 3 episodes tonight 8-9:30pm EST. Even though I watched seasons 1-4 over the holidays I'll turn it to show my support for the beast frickin tv series ever created!
GuinJan 2nd 2008, 09:19
I'm really disappointed in Adult Swim/Cartoon Network. Can't complain too much since it's still airing but on Comedy Central. Futurama seems to lose fans but I'm one fan who will never leave. Most people who might not be watching it on tv though may own it so don't feel a need to watch tv. Maybe, if we show enough interest and persist, they'll continue Futurama. Maybe not right away but with time.
tvcontractsblowJan 2nd 2008, 09:37
I think what ill miss most about futurama on adult swim is falling asleep to it almost every night. yeah it sounds stupid but you're probably reading this right now thinking the same thing. i will continue to watch it on CC to show my support for he show and encourage a strong comeback and i hope you'll do the same. If you're reading this and you never post stuff but you like to read what others have to say, just post anything praising futurama on whatever futurama site your on. b/c if everyone pitches in i think it can comeback.

"i love stealing. i love taking things"

ilyfuturamaJan 2nd 2008, 21:46
DUH futurama will be missed on adult swim but I know that the show will do well on CC jus cuz the popularity of futurama is rising alot everyday.
benders big score sold more than 100,000 copies in its first WEEK.

go futurama :)
IdontknowJan 2nd 2008, 22:08
I think Futurama will do better on CC since it's on at an earlier time, and more people watch CC than Adult Swim, CC has raised Scrubs popularity.
whaJan 2nd 2008, 22:58
wait ... dark place? as in garth marenghi's dark place?

im sure im not exaggerating in the slightest when i say the whole of europe is in uproar waiting for BBS on region 2, and the only place to watch it for me and all my UK pals is on inferior interweb streaming. im also excited about garth marenghi on US tv though ... unless its something else entirely. it's really low-budget british cult humour that only about four people get - the same four people who get all the physics jokes on futurama, actually. sweet.

"no fair! you changed the outcome by measuring it!"
OMGFUTURAMAJan 2nd 2008, 23:56
only wed thru fri??????
i couldnt get enough futurama even on the last marathon T-T
well hope it works well on cc, ill be sure to watch :)
RobbJan 3rd 2008, 03:21
Farewell Adult Swim and thanks!!

To Comedy Central.. WELCOME, TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!!!!
RynJan 3rd 2008, 04:24
its hard to believe that only four more movies of futurama but only good can come out of moving to cc, look at scrubs, it was dieing on NBC until they put it on cc so i hope they can renew regular episodes of futruama like family guy
SteveJan 3rd 2008, 11:09
I'm from UK so have limited kowledge about CC and Adult Swim (which I've never heard of) but isn't CC the best place for any comedy show to be? I was always under the impression that CC is the prime for comedy in America? Maybe I'm wrong. I think Futuramam had to move in some way to make a new start somewhere and get new viewers. Where else could it have moved to?
SpaciakJan 3rd 2008, 18:05
16 New Episodes on Comedy Central. Release dates are currently unknown. What wonders await us!
GogetaSS4Jan 4th 2008, 10:02
I've been waiting for new Episodes of Futurama and if the move to Comedy Central is the Catalyst that brings this about, I'm all for it.
loveFJan 5th 2008, 01:53
I been reading up on this shit for years, futurama will be back!!!!!! And Everyone needs to think Comedy Central!!!!!!!!!!!! watch it at there 9:00 Block so they will keep making this show :)
AhmetiaJan 5th 2008, 08:43
When will the new episodes be showing, I ahve been looking forward to furutrama starting again all year though I thought fox relaised its mistake and decided to change it, it'll be less likely I'll see it if it's on comedy central and futurama isn't really comedy central like, it's not completely obessen like most other shows they have like the Sarah Silverman Show, funny woman, but very perverted.
CheeseItJan 6th 2008, 06:37
The move to CC will probably cause me to miss most of the airings, as I found myself staying up late just to watch Futurama. I doubt I'll work my schedule around just to watch it on CC... though I'll certainly have the DVR set for it (Speaking of which, do DVR records factor into the overall ratings of a show? Does that count as a viewer if its being recorded, even if its not on the TVs main tuner?). I think the AS audience was VERY loyal, and truly did help bring the show back from the dead... but I also think the popularity on AS was probably maxed, and I think moving to a more prime-time slot will be a real litmus test for the show. If the show cant attract new viewers, then hopes for it going back into syndication are slim. So this really is the do or die for futuramas return to TV... So heres to making it happen!
hypno-toadJan 6th 2008, 19:39
I live in India so can't watch episodes on AS or CC. But I think #25 above makes a good point, and I'd like to do my part: I LOVE FUTURAMA!!! Always have, always will. And I really hope the powers that be will wake up and bring this show back, to any station, for many more seasons. (Btw, I also bet the show would be a big hit in Asia if they put it on Star World - not instead of, but in addition to, the American channels.)
MKBurn15Jan 6th 2008, 22:15
There is a marathon on right now.
Also it's every weeknight at 9
ArmisteJan 7th 2008, 03:13
Futurama was the only thing really worth watching on Cartoon Network. I was the ocasional FG and American Dad watcher, but Futurama was hands-down my favorite. I can't get Comedy Central where I live so I will have to get the DVD's as they come out.
I don't think that Cartoon Network really had a choice in giving up the show. Comedy Central already had the rights to the new stuff and they had to know how many of us were rabid to see it - they probably made Cohen and Matt G. an offer that was better than Cartoon Network could match for the rights to the old stuff.
So I am glad to see Futurama back, but sad to know that so many of the people who were so vocal about getting it back on the air with new stuff will have such a hard time getting to see the results of thier efforts. I'll still follow the show, it will just be one DVD at a time. May Fry live forever!!! - he's already pushing 1037 years old.
AhmetiaJan 7th 2008, 08:40
Well I do think AS did have some other good shows, I personally stay up for Shin Chan and Death Note.
ImpatientJan 7th 2008, 09:13
does this site ever post new news, i mean come on. news on international release dates of the movie would be good(eg. australia) or news on the next or anything.
RichardJan 8th 2008, 04:07
Yeah, they must be holding back to be sadistic.

Maybe they should make up dates if FOX hasn't told them anything yet, hmm?
MinhdzuyJan 8th 2008, 06:12
Also, for those of you who watch it late, it airs at 12:00 after the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. At least that's what they're doing right now, so we'll see if it's consistent.
ImpatientJan 8th 2008, 09:36
oi, richard, Australian release date is known 5th march 2008. SO WHY DONT HEY RELEAE THIS ON CGEF AS NEWS.
ScottJan 10th 2008, 18:54
Does anyone know the schedule for the remaining three movies?
BobJan 11th 2008, 06:09
This show is freaking awesome. i just started watching it the other day when they started airing it on comedy central. I never realized what i was missing until now. Thank you comedy central.
ashJan 12th 2008, 00:26
So let me get this straight. So there's NOT gonna be another season of Futurama? But is there? Can u help me or somebody help me get this story correct because i have been hearing rumors that there's gonna be a whole new season (season 5) but whats with the 4 movies and the annoying re-runs on Comedy Central.....Somebody help me out
RichardJan 12th 2008, 04:34
The four movies are the "new season." They're going to be chopped up and aired. Futurama has NOT been picked up for new episodes, nor does that seem likely in the near future.
sueJan 12th 2008, 04:47
Why?Why? Why? did they take Futurama off at 11PM. It's awful. I never get to see it now at 9:00 P.M. when its teen watching time at my home. Adults in my home only get to watch their programs at 11:00 P.M. I am so disappointed. Thanks a lot!
lostinseganetJan 15th 2008, 02:27
So did the DVD sell well enough to warrant another dvd?
eirinnskeJan 15th 2008, 23:14
Question:
Is the writers strike effecting the production of the next 3 Futurama movies at all??
ShaneCJan 17th 2008, 20:53
Here is the sale total so far for Bender's Big Score
$12,398,116
TheonewhowantsthedvdJan 30th 2008, 08:27
When is Benders Big Score coming out in Australia? I almost absolutely hate fox for not selling it in Aus the same time as USA like with the simpsons movie! I want it now :(
dvsFeb 1st 2008, 12:15
Benders Big Score has done pretty well for a direc to dvd release with absolutely no advertising. it has made 14.6 million so far in US dvd sales. probably somewhere between 3-5 million on rentals. the sales are still taking in one million a week.
DanFeb 2nd 2008, 01:22
Does anyone else hate the Comedy Central ads? They are annoying and show nothing about the wit and humor of the show. Just a random amalgamation of scenes with painfully rhyming, shouted voiceover.
mikeFeb 10th 2008, 22:25
yo.

whats the deal? movie 2, lets get down to it.
impatientagainFeb 11th 2008, 04:38
come on any new news yet its been ages. any news will be good anything. hurry up. you havent even told us about the australian or british release dates for BBS yet.
DireWolf81Feb 12th 2008, 05:43
Fox Is so stupid sometimes,They have these great shows and then they might do bad for a few months then they do good again and they cancel the show even thou its the best thing on,Then they get these other shows on they flop big time and then they are screwed just like they were with family guy.I agree with the person who said they should run it with South Park on cc cuz they would get a lot of ratings that night. It would be like foxes sunday night.
orderFeb 12th 2008, 22:05
realy? no news at all? update!
or just link to a site that does.
JamboJembuFeb 15th 2008, 10:47
I have somewhat exciting news. It seems that the first part of Bender's Big Score will be airing on Comedy Central Sunday, March 23 at 8:00/7:00c. Here's the link.

idontgivemynametoamachineFeb 15th 2008, 17:25
@ JamboJembu: You screwd up, man! Where is the link?
JamboJembuFeb 16th 2008, 00:26
I put the link in there, but it didn't show up. Here it is again:

If it doesn't show up, type "breaking news bender's big score march 23" into google and it'll be the first result.
sethFeb 18th 2008, 07:49
i agree i'm getting tired with the lack of futurama news... btw for those of you in oz and uk, im pretty sure BBS dvd release date is march 5 (oz), and april 7 (uk).
jaydeeFeb 19th 2008, 03:44
Everyone just e-mail fox and tell them how big of fuckups they are, seriously. I just sent them like 10, it really makes me made how they have these awesome shows they cancel because they wanna advertise shit that they made so make a huge profit, like terminator, who the hell watches that stupid terminator show they advertise 24/7. They really messed up on futurama, and it makes me upset seeing how that was potentially the best animated show out right now. Definetely top 3. Seriousy just e-mail them and be like.. "you fucking suck"
impatientFeb 19th 2008, 09:13
i agree with seth this site needs more news, hurry up. this site has had the same news for nearly two months. A rumour for the release of the next movie Futurama:Beast With A Billion Backs is march 18, 2008. check imdb for details.
idontgivemynametoamachineFeb 19th 2008, 15:00
"A rumour for the release of the next movie Futurama:Beast With A Billion Backs is march 18, 2008."

I think that's highly unlikely. It's less than a month and there has been neither ads nor the possibility to pre-order the dvds. BBS was advertized three months before its release.
(Maybe they are waiting for the BBS sales to take a dive. )
I'd guess that "Beast with a billion backs" will be released around May/June 2008. In this case we could expect the announcement of a release date in the next month.
JessFeb 21st 2008, 00:53
The AUSTRALIAN RELEASE date is Wednesday, 05 March 2008 for Benders Big Score, check out EzyDVD for proof..
SilverLeafTeacomFeb 24th 2008, 05:38
I am very happy to see that soon there should be new episodes on Comedy Central. I never watched it until it started running on Comedy Central and realize I missed a lot! Great show!
futuramicsinfoFeb 24th 2008, 21:32
This website hasn't been updated in a year. I just wanted to let people know about my website since this website hasn't responded to my emails for the link exchange.

sethFeb 25th 2008, 03:05
oy seriously did the ppl that run this site die or something!... neway i really hope that someone in america posts beast with a billion backs on youtube like they did with BBS, otherwise aust wont get to see it for like another six months

According to the Digital Bits, Beast with a Billion Backs will be out June 24.

TheBobManMar 6th 2008, 19:57
Beast is also available on Amazon for preorder (also jun 24 release). This seems like news, right?
RichardMar 6th 2008, 22:47
Well, I think the site's been down. Give them some time.
PirateKingChrisMar 7th 2008, 00:40
Yeah I couldn't get to the site for about 4 days. But I also saw wikipedia and amazon say Beast is coming June 24th. Wish it could be sooner, strike probably had something to do with it.
