Can't get enough Futurama

Billy West Interview on HippoJuice

The guys at HippoJuice got an interview with Futurama voice actor Billy West at South Florida Anime Supercon. Among other things, Billy speaks about a possible sixth season and says that there are talks with FOX about it. While information I got from a second source very close to the show a few weeks back did not rule out talks, I was told that there has not been any decision on the issue. So, no getting your hopes up too soon.

Watch the interview on youtube or listen to an extended audio interview on the HippoJuice site (starting at ca. 45 minutes into the mp3).

Tried to reword the text a bit to make this more clear but let me try here again... Billy did not say that there will be a sixth season. He said that there were talks. Unfortunately, the YouTube title makes it sound like Billy said something he did not.

After the lazy witting an Billy West poor acting on ITWGY (What happened to Frys voice?) I don't even know if I want a 6th season. The quality of all 4 movies was sub standard and the heart doesn't seem to be in it. Perhaps the writers and creators just see the large amount of fan support as a free ride. :( Maybe it's time I grew up and realised I can't pin my happiness on Futurama.

i totally dissagree with sadfry and believe that futurama defantly needs to come back and do just one more season 2 see all the characters again.

as i always say it will keep the fans happy and whether its good or not there WILL be profit in it and if fox dont want to do it then give it to ABC! its win/wins all round!

get it sorted eh! dazbob666

I too disagree with SadFry.

There are a lot of shows that do very well in a half-hour format, but then when they get to do hourlong episodes, or other longer projects, they fall a little flat. It's hard to turn something that's supposed to be 30 minutes into something that has to last 4x longer. That's not to say the movies were bad, because I loved them. And you haven't even seen ITWGY, so don't pass judgement.

If they did a sixth season, I'm sure it would be the same high caliber program it has been for years. And I think for real, true fans of the series, nothing with the name "Futurama" on it will ever be considered bad.

Attention Luke, that-which-cannot-be-talked-of allowed me to watch ITWGY as it has thousands of others. If you too want to see ITWG as everyone else did a week or so ago I suggest you find that-which-cannot-be-talked-of or a website streaming it.

I did not say the movies were bad, but I certainly would not call them good, I liked the phrase 'sub standard'. I am a fan of Futurama I bought the boxsets, I have the posters up, I joined PEEL and even own a few toys (Such as a Zoidberg with ridges from WMIBACIL) But most importantly I love the show. I have not had the same love for the movies.

To both SADFRYISATW[@]hotmailcom, Luke and any other fans reading this; I did not make my original post to piss people off, I wanted to make them aware. I want to see Futurama return and give us a few more proper seasons, good stories and an amazing ending. I do not want Futurama to return as a cash cow with the show being made quickly and with out any real care just so Fox can suck as much money as possible out of its now large fan base. I don't want season after season until the formula wears itself out and it is cancelled again like almost every other show on American television. I want quality. The movies were not good enough and I want it known to the people working on the show, things need to improve. Bring back GOOD Futurama.

If all goes will with the sales on ITWGY, maybe a sixth season will happen!

another season ? the dvds stories are not so funny except for the amazing first . problem of the three others is that fry , bender and leela are no longer together but have their one "subplot" .
if they do other season , i wish we ll see the sub-sewer ;']

I have to agree with sadfry. While i really enjoy watching new material, the dvd movies really didn't do it for me. These shows were meant to be 22min, not 4x that.

The plots of these movies just didnt really capture my attention like the half an hour shows. To me, the first 4 seasons were all stellar, but the movies fell kind of flat and really didn't make me laugh like the episodes.

With that said, lets all pray for season 6......

You know, from what ive seen on the-numbers sales site (i dont know if this is a reliable source) but the first dvd had an outstanding sales report of nearly $16 grossed by July 2008, however the other two that have been released are no where near that mark with about $7 million for the second one and only $3 million for the third. Now the fourth one was reported to have sold almost 100,000 copies in the first week, which is pretty good, only time will tell if the fourth one is as successful as the first DVD. Also i was unaware that the 4th one had a Blu-Ray alternate, do the other ones have that as well?

Ive said it before many times, if FOX isnt going to bring back Futurama, it should be allowed to be sold to someone else (Comedy Central). Futurama has alot of potential behind it to becoming a great cash-cow for any broadcasting station that shows it. I feel that we will get a response on the future of Futurama late the spring early summer time-frame, that way FOX will have time to analyze the gross sales of Futurama DVD's and viewers from Comedy Central's broadcasting and make a decision then for their Fall line-up. Sucks that we might have to wait that long, but i'll be satisfied with a "yes, the showing is coming back for a 6th season" or a million of those Tickle-Me Bender dolls. "Quit touching my junk, you pervert!"
