Futurama: The Complete Collection

This gigantic box will contain all seventy-two episodes of the original series along with the four movies (Bender's Big Score, The Beast with a Billion Back, Bender's Game, Into the Wild Green Yonder). Like always it will have loads of additional bonus material and extra features. All of this will be packaged in a collectible Bender head, including a detachable rubber antenna. No information is currently known about how much this awesome collection will cost. It will be released on October 13, 2009.

IGN reports:
The Futurama - The Complete Collection DVD will feature the following bonus materials:
  • Audio Commentary By Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Patric M. Verrone, Michael Rowe, Lee Supercinski, and Peter Avanzino
  • Storyboard Animatic: Into The Wild Green Yonder Part 1
  • Docudramarama: How We Make Futurama So Good "Louder, Louder!": The Acting Technique Of Penn Jillette

  • Bender's Movie Theater Etiquette
  • Bender Toilet Paper Joke

I sure hope to get my hands on it really soon so I can review this magnificent beast!

I'm excited about the detachable rubber antenna.

This article has far greater detail on the content:

Also 13 October.

This article seems to have more on the release:

I don't want to sound like a party-pooper, but aren't the overwhelming majority of these extras already on the various series/films. I may work this out precisely and post again when I can say for definite what the 'extra' extras are.

One for completists only, I suspect.

Phil.

being the person that i am, i already own the series, and the dvds. however, being the person that i am, i will also have to purchase this great and historical box set! hah

it's the show that just won't stay dead!
PatAug 27th 2009, 14:35
If the Comic-Con edition was any indication, this should run about $200-$300. And even though I own the movies and have seen these episodes 100s of times, I may have to spring for it.

DelBAug 27th 2009, 16:55
These ones are missing some features from the collectible version that was at Comic-Con, so hepefully it will be a lot cheaper

I would get it just for the sake of buying it so long as it's affordable and as a backup for all the DVD's I own already
One or two of my discs have small cracks on the inside due to the bad DVD cases from one of the seasons so they're probably going to break at some point...

The commentaries are easily the best extras on the DVD's so new ones always interest me but there's not enough information yet
I will definitely be watching what happens with this set

Just got the press release from Fox. The pertinent details are as follows:

Street Date: October 13, 2009

Audio: English, Spanish Dolby Surround

Pricing: $169.98 U.S. / $199.98 Canada

Catalog # for U.S and Canada: 2261763

Total Run Time: 1989 minutes

DVD Rating: NR

Closed Captioned: Yes

Of course, those prices are the MSRP, so a retailer like Best Buy might have a first-week special for slightly less.
maemikemaeAug 29th 2009, 05:28
It looks cool but not nescessary for people that already own all of the DVDs as already mentioned. Fox should go back and release all the DVDs in blu-ray since only the last 2 DVDs are in blu-ray. Then maybe they'd be worth re-buying.
svenAug 30th 2009, 12:09
"Then maybe they'd be worth re-buying."

Seconded... Buying all the DVD's AGAIN? Would be cool if you could buy the box separately maybe so you could just stick your discs in...
mattgarveyAug 30th 2009, 23:38
It looks like the discs are exact copies of the existing DVDs - I haven't checked disc-for-disc, but the Beast with a Billion Backs extras list doesn't seem quite right. If they do wind up being tweaked in some way, I'll be kind of pissed, but...

What this doesn't seem to include, then, is the 4-episode "fun collection" and its small assortment of extras, and the bonus disc with previews of BBB that came with some copies of BBS (which I don't have and I want, dammit!).
SisterinarmsSep 1st 2009, 00:16
Blueray?
Movienerd2012Sep 1st 2009, 04:09
darn if only i didn't already have all the DVD's...i honestly don't see the point in buying animated movies on Blu-ray, i mean it's animation how to you improve the picture quality?
thatguySep 1st 2009, 05:59
HOORAY!

WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP!
ScottSep 4th 2009, 23:24
It is $140 on amazon,
BillSep 5th 2009, 02:58
I don't care what it costs, because I kept enough in savings for one Panucci's pie before I got frozen. The thousand years of interest really added up!

If only I could remember where I left that seven-leafed clover.
RemotSep 7th 2009, 00:05
no blueray? I would definitively get it if it was out on blueray, but re-buying all the dvds just for the box seems illogical.
mkburnSep 9th 2009, 18:39
I'm gonna think ahead and wait until the new episodes all finish and then buy The Real Complete Collection, which I'm expecting to just be Bender's entire body.
mectronSep 10th 2009, 07:34
I already got the original DVD, (the 4 sets) and what a waste of money. On watched those DVDs reveal how cheap they are... at least 10% of all frames for each episode are messup, (bad telecine, low res frames etc...)

what a deception. Do you think they re-did them for the collector editions?
MelllvarSep 11th 2009, 01:59
mectron, I agree with you, the seasons were choppy. Hopefully these will be better, I will buy a small car for Bender's head to drive around.
MavarenoSep 11th 2009, 02:12

It says in the body that a limited supply of bender heads will be available for purchase.

Anyone have a link for a pre-order on the Bender Head?
DavidSep 12th 2009, 01:45
I hope that the 1st and 2nd season will have a "play all" option
MaxSep 17th 2009, 17:11
I want Zapp Brannigan's Guide To Making Love At A Woman and Benders Etiquette
That should be hilarious.
BaronVonGodzillaSep 19th 2009, 16:53
Max, I have seen it, it's not very funny. In fact, none of those extras were very good, the Bender toilet paper animation, the Penn Jillette thing, all of it was short and really not too funny. I didn't care for it, I prefer deleted scenes, storyboard artwork, concept art, and other such things. I'd love to see more live action video of the cast members recording. I'd love some behind the scenes stuff with the writers or to learn about the show. But these extras are garbage, as a HUGE fan saying that, so please, don't buy it expecting these extras to be great, they are already released and they SUCK
JohnSep 24th 2009, 02:52
A just bought all the DVDs including the movies this would've been so much better..oh well...
mrdpolingSep 24th 2009, 15:40
Amazon now has this listed for $129.99.

Found it for 117.89 at target, and with shipping you can pre-order it for $120.97 +tax

If you are feeling lucky, blowitoutahere . com has it for about $110-115 (depending on shipping option)...but they only have two seller reviews on bizrate.
KorinOct 10th 2009, 12:03
So, how's the 'bender head' ???

Wh00pOct 10th 2009, 23:30
So, as someone who still hasn't gotten around to collecting all 4 seasons, this almost sounds worth the price. My question, however, is if this all-for-one pack includes the individual seasons' extras (commentaries, etc.) as well? If so, then it'll be right up my ally. If not... eh, I'll probably snatch up the originals at the nearby record shop.

So, does anyone know if seasons 1 and 2 have the "play all" option on these new DVD's???
CodenameVNov 2nd 2009, 16:36
Now when they say "season 5"...there were only 4 production seasons, Fox stretched it out so much they had "5 airing seasons"; no matter what the idiots on wikipedia say, that's crap: it had FOUR SEASONS, I have FOUR DVD box sets. So they're saying that they're showing a feature of the first work on "season 5" for comedy central?
