LaMarche: 13 new episodes for 2012

After Katey 'Leela' Sagal announced in February that there would be more Futurama episodes, Maurice 'Morbo' LaMarche chimed in today to give further details:
13 new episodes have been ordered, with an additional 13 optional. This is apart from the 13 episodes that will air beginning in June, 2011, on Comedy Central.
While not an "official official" announcement, it does look a lot like Fry & Co will be staying on TV for a while.

On a related note, watch LaMarche congratulating William Shatner for his 80s birthday (and announce the Futurama deal).

UPDATE: Comedy Central confirms to have ordered 26 new episodes which gives us 13 episodes for the summer of 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Awesome news. I really enjoyed getting to watch some new shows last year, and having introduced the show to my kids, it was great for us all to look forward to each new episode and enjoying time with Fry, Leela, and Zap.

I love Futurama so much, I bought a real copy of the new DVD set while in Iraq. (does not buying illegal copies count as talking about illegal copies?) That and the commentary puts me to sleep at night.

"Futurama just closed a syndication deal for 90% of the USA! Having 11 million FB Likes was definitely a factor, said a 20th Century Fox TV rep in this article. It's a new world. And I think we're gonna be entertaining it for a while."

So just to clarify -

1. There are 13 new episodes being broadcast 2011
2. There are 13 new episodes being broadcast 2012
3. So we have 2 new seasons to look forward to starting this summer 2011 with 13 episodes and then 2012 with another 13.

The 13 episodes being shown this year are part of the original 26 episodes that Comedy Central ordered. There will be a further 26 episodes half of which will air in 2012 and the other half in 2013.

There was only like 3 episodes that weren't very good, about three that were very very good and the rest were average.

Yes, the best news I've had all day. It doesn't get any better than Futurama. The last season maybe wasn't the best ever, but the mind-switching episode was comedy gold!
