Can't get enough Futurama
In Color

Terrible News Everyone!

Well, it's the news we all feared.

This is breaking news so I'm only just taking it in. More to follow as I find out about what it all means(except for the obvious).

I would suggest you tweet Comedy Central and (politely) let them know how disappointed you are.

Sigh.

Well it died made four DVD films...came back to Comedy Central...however last season was rather disappointing....so sadly time to take the horse behind the barn and shoot it. I didn't even buy the last sarson set. Loved the show, but my favorite seasons were 3 and four...Best DVD films, Three and Four. Sorry but all good things have to come to an end.
KarimApr 22nd 2013, 17:31
I don't think this is the end.

See what Matt Groening said:

Groening tells EW. “We’re catching our breath and seeing what the fans have to say....We have many more stories to tell. But if we don’t, this is a really great way to go out…”

I think, we as fans, have to contact the show's creators to say we still want more!!

(warning: spoilers in that article!!)

If, indeed. Somehow we’ll see Bender shout “Bite My Shiny, Revived Metal Ass!” down the road, right? “Perhaps Futurama will return in another form, on the Internet, or as a puppet show in the park,” says Groening. “Or maybe as a puppet show in the park on the Internet.” Deadpans Cohen: “As I said three times before, this is definitely the absolute end of the show. I don’t know why nobody believes me when I say that.”
WubWubApr 22nd 2013, 18:36
Gosh darn it... I know all series, even great ones, should end some day (hinting a lot at The Simpsons here), but it just felt like Futurama had more episodes to show... Hopefully, though unlikely, it will come back once again.
EricSimmonsApr 22nd 2013, 19:31
Its not the end just yet. We need to all band together and support the creators. They don't want it to end. So lets tweet and do what we need to do.
philipJcyeApr 22nd 2013, 19:47
The four dvd movies made fox loads of money in sales. I wouldn't be too shocked to see them return to that format in the future. If so use the four new movies to end the show on a high and end it as an all time classic.
LeeApr 22nd 2013, 20:33
Bad news everyone. Devastated to hear.
KateApr 22nd 2013, 20:41
From the viewers of Down Under - WHAT THE ????
Why is it that any program that caters to the intelligent viewer gets cancelled? And why don't they just by-pass the asinine morons and just go strait to DVD / Blue-ray?
Just like the major movies - no one wants to sit in the garbage pits they call movie theaters these days! and commercial TV stations in OZ always air futurama in no man's land or dead zones and waste good air time on 20 year old repeats of the Simpsons - who have had their day!(no offense!) Futurama is the only TV series i have ever collected or ever will, my children love futurama and all of our friends are huge fans!
wake up and smell the popularity !!!!
SAVE OUR FUTURAMA ! SAVE OUR FUTURAMA !
FuzungaApr 22nd 2013, 20:58
There's a lot of directions we, as fans, can take. We can petition other networks like Adult Swim or Netflix. We can even try that new crowd funding platform SMGO.TV. I've already suggested it over there. Even back when the show was first revived we didn't have the options we have now.
MoodbeamApr 22nd 2013, 21:03
We need to do something! There's still such a huge fanbase out there for Futurama and we can't let it end now! I can't help but feel that if Sky (over here in the UK) had hurried up in showing the new series we might have had them out on DVD sooner which might help Fox decide whether or not they want to pick it back up. As it stands, we've only had the first 13 episodes since the four movies released on DVD over here (the rest of the season is coming out in June) and I think that's incredibly poor.
MikeApr 22nd 2013, 21:18
I'm with commenter #1. It's had its day. The new season and a half so far on Comedy Central have been dismal and have probably done more to damage the show's legacy than the initial cancellation did. I can live without another season of LOLRANDOM!
ChanciusApr 22nd 2013, 21:44
Sign the petition to bring back Futurama!
JoeLApr 22nd 2013, 21:50
Does someone here have contacts with the people that make the show happen and know the economics? The "down" ratings still quote millions of viewers. If we did a Kickstarter, could 30% of the fans putting up $20 bucks each directly fund the show we love?

Patron the arts, old school. Kick the middleman to the curb.

SmittyApr 22nd 2013, 21:54
I don't get it. I thought it was a successful show for Comedy Central. Why did they not renew it?

TO SHREDS I SAY!
dejavuApr 22nd 2013, 22:57
This is sad news :(

+1 for the straight-to-dvd idea or maybe Netflix, Amazon or one of the other streaming sites could start producing some movies. There were only a few great episodes like the Attack of the Killer App and Overclockwise in recent seasons. The movies, however, were all fantastic.
OnukiApr 22nd 2013, 23:50
Speak for yourself. I'm glad it got cancelled. I hope it stays cancelled. If you truly care about the Futurama characters, you would let Futurama stay cancelled. If you sign the petition, I won't forgive you
JohnZoidbergApr 22nd 2013, 23:54
Maybe if they sorted out the UK airing times and DVD releases the fanbase may improve and it may not have been cancelled!!! Sky's latest episode was Law and Oracle (Episode 6:17 according to IMDB) which aired in the US 18 months ago!! And the DVD season with the same episode was only released a few weeks ago!

I say fox should cut the funding for the Simpsons, as I don't think I have actually laughed at one episode post "Movie", and fund PlanEx!

Futurama rules!! Fry for President!! Bring back the safety dance 80's guy!!
MattApr 23rd 2013, 00:27
To quote Super King: "we are not amused"

Who do we have to spam to get Futurama brought back!!!??? I want addresses! Email and post office. I will write daily.
ShaneApr 23rd 2013, 01:00
It's a bummer to see it cancelled again but in all honesty the last two seasons were mostly forgettable and all-too-often dumb. I hated what they did to Leela and basically all the rest of the characters. Very little felt genuine. The stories just came off as lazy.
JimjamApr 23rd 2013, 01:17
I'm literally angry with rage!
BikeboyApr 23rd 2013, 01:59
What does it cost to produce Futurama? What about crowdsource funding some new episodes? How much would fans be willing to pay to keep our favourite show going?

I don't just want more Futurama, I DEMAND more Futurama! Let's not curse the darkness, let's light a candle!!
BudApr 23rd 2013, 02:00
I've got it covered. On September 5th, just use the binary tinecode 001100010010011110100001101101110011 to travel back to April and *AHEM* 'convince' the Comedy Central execs to renew for 3 more seasons, otherwise, it's Torgo's Executive Powder for all my friends!

If enough fans tweet or e-mail FOX and say HEY, now's your chance to bring back Futurama they are bound to pay attention, then we say SCREW YOU Comedy Central and go back to enjoying a fine animated TV series on a REAL major TV network! Simple plans are often the best.
LizzzApr 23rd 2013, 03:44
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! We demand Bender! If you need me, I will be in the angry dome.
popeApr 23rd 2013, 04:03
comedy central is a horrible channel.other than daily show and colbert they have nothing. i hope they can find a way to continue the show. it has more depth than anything else on tv right now and possibly ever. and the last seasons were great by the way. however, from the perspective of the comedy central execs i guess it makes more sense to have a low quality show like southpark that doesn't cost as much to make but has higher ratings because there are far more idiots that will watch that than intelligent people who can see the greatness of futurama. i hope they can find a way to make more episodes or just do straight to dvd movies. netflix might be a good option. the show is great but the movies are amazing. boycott comedy central and by the dvds or blurays when they come out.
TimApr 23rd 2013, 04:06
Here's a very very early Kickstarter project to bring Futurama back. I would love all the help I can get!

druxyApr 23rd 2013, 04:15
NOOOOOOOOO ... OOOOOOOOOO why god why?!? Come on fans we have to unite to save our beloved show!!!
LarryPApr 23rd 2013, 04:50
I'm a major Futurama fanatic, but...

- The last 2 years often made me cringe. The stories were often weak and tended to lean on bathroom humor. Who wrote them? Teenage interns?

- The intelligence spark seemed to die out except for 4-5 episodes, over 2 seasons! The show lost its edge.

- Come out with REALLY GOOD MOVIES, not episodes.

does this mean cc is not going to even do reruns anymore? sadly the haters brought the show down... it's an overly angry stubborn small group but enough to affect it... i dont get it and never will... the new eps have been so much fun... ratings did drop in the first half of the second batch of 26 but they were on during viacoms pulling from directv and the olympics... they still match in ratings to a lot of other com central live shows but i think cc had so many new series like workaholics and other shows that prob were cheaper... i really think this puts futurama not as cancelled but as a free agent... adult swim? tbs? fx to pair with archer? netflix? there are definitively options
KeepGoingApr 23rd 2013, 06:25
I've enjoyed all the Futurama episodes/movies. I'm willing to do whatever I can to support them to see more. Whoever/whatever keeps this show going will get my business.

GreyFoxApr 23rd 2013, 07:22
This show is way to smart to be a huge mainstream commercial success, this is such a shame :(

I can't say I'm surprised about the cancellation, but it's still sad.

*raises his glass to the best animated show on American television*
061i0Apr 23rd 2013, 11:44
I'm not sure about how I feel about this yet - I've liked more episodes since Rebirth than I've hated. However, I am certain that I don't want to see too many more Yo Leela Leelas, President's Heads, or Butterjunks.

My first thought though was to wonder if this could be an attempt to drum up publicity for the next series?

Noo, I refuse! Damn it Comedy Central! I've nothing to live for now! ;-;

Hopefully this isn't the last we'll see of Futurama. To be honest, I think we'll see them again. Someday in the future c: Still though... goodbye for now.
MattApr 23rd 2013, 21:03
I wonder if FOX would consider bringing FUTURAMA back? Hell, it has more of a fanbase than that abortion "The Cleveland Show". That show is unwatchable.
DissapointednotreallyApr 23rd 2013, 21:28
Last season had some unwatchable episodes. I was worried that Futurama will end like the Simpsons- lasting forever but not funny at all.

The show lost its touch... Put it gently to sleep.
SS4BenderApr 23rd 2013, 22:59
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Seriously, people watch it on Comedy Central,no on demand and shit. Support the show and stuff and let comedy central know we want it to stay, otherwise I'll send them to robot hell, after butting of their ears so they can't hear the catchy music >:)
MagnusApr 24th 2013, 00:51
Why are people bitching about new movies? The 1st movie was the only good one, and the fourth was okay. I'd rather have it back in episode format. It just suits the show better.
There's a lot less jokes in the movies.
Though if it's the only way, then I'd rather have that then none of course...but still the movies weren't such a good idea the first time around...
CatfaceApr 24th 2013, 02:28
This is sad indeed, but I am totally ok with this. The show was declining rapidly for me after it's resurrection, and now it will be nice to know that it's greatest years (seasons 1-4/movies) will make up the majority of it's run.
benderisgreatApr 24th 2013, 05:39
This is why i dont want to live on this planet anymore.
futuramafanApr 24th 2013, 18:26
I think it's time to let Futurama die a natural death rather than enter the zombie like state of the Simpsons which stopped being funny a full decade ago.

The last two seasons of Futurama have been very hit and miss and I'd rather have one last season of comedy brilliance than another ten season of Simpsons like mediocrity.
johnMay 20th 2013, 22:21
im sick to beg everytime they f*ck us, canceling this great show
Not4You2KnowMay 22nd 2013, 15:29
You know. I am one am glad Futurama is ending. When it 'ended' in 2009, everyone seemed to be happy for Fry and Leela kissing at the end. Then once word came out it was coming back, everyone was excited.

And then in 2010 when it did come back, what had to happen? Everyone kept complaining! They kept complaining about how terrible the episodes are, how bad the characters are, and some even wished it was cancelled and/or never came back. Now look where we fans are. It's going to get cancelled again and they're all trying to save the show just so they can make fun of it again.
We fans should be more supportive of the new episodes!

Every episode since 2010 has gotten a negative review. The only ones that had positive reviews were the ones about Fry and Leela. In 2010 the best episode was "The Late Philip J. Fry" In 2011 is was "Overclockwise" in 2012 it was "Fun On A Bun". Matt and David have worked hard to get Futurama back on the air and this is how they're repaid? I blame the internet for Futurama's demise.

If Futurama really did end in 2009, you'd all be wishing it did come back. Then it comes back and it's hated and dispised and should be cancelled. Now it's getting cancelled again and everyone wants it back. Pure irony.

I have loved the new episodes of Futurama since it's been back. Sure, there's been a few disapointments just like everything else in life. All fans have ever done was try to find fault with the new episodes. Such as the different character pairings of 2010 was it really such a cardinal sin to see Amy with Nibbler, Leela with Lrrr, and Zoidberg with Cubert? Then in 2011, it was the way Leela acted. She didn't act any differently. Then last year, it was Bender dominating the show. What's next?

It will continue on through the comics, and I'm fine with that. I will always be a a loyal and faithful fan. I have loved every episode expect for a few since the new Futurama has started. Futurama forever!
