I don't think Futurama is headed to Netflix the show is to expensive to produce. plus not every one can afford netflix and that includes me. I hope it gets picked up by either FOX, FX, TBS or CARTOON NETWORK !!!!!!!!!!! Also rememember the fact that if some one like netflix gets it the Animation will $uck and the symphonic soundtrack will also $uck....

Billy West Spills the Beans, Futurama Still Alive?

During MetaCon in Downtown Minneapolis on Saturday evening, I strolled into a panel called “Becoming Philip J Fry: A Futurama Panel.” This was a fascinating discussion hosted by Billy West himself, the voice of Philip J. Fry, Dr. Zoidberg, Professor Farnsworth, and more of Futurama’s zany cast of characters. I’ll write up more about the panel later, but there’s one thing in particular that caught my ear.

See, as Futurama fans all know, the show has been cancelled once again, and the final episode is set to air on Wednesday, September 4. While it seems like this could finally be the last time, West doesn’t think so. Here’s the quote from West himself:

I was so emotional when I went to Comic-Con and we had to basically say goodbye, and thank you, and heartfelt thanks. For once in my life, I didn’t feel like being a smartass and making up witty, clever, pithy things to say. I couldn’t. I was too emotional…

When I went up to Matt [Groening] that day, I said, “Hey man, listen. I just hope that I gave you way more than you ever expected. That was only what I really wanted to do.” And I said, “Thank you for the great opportunity.” The whole time, he’s not listening to me. He’s going, “Don’t, don’t give up yet.” And I said, “What do you mean?” And he said, “We’re talking to everybody.” And I said, “Really?”

And he couldn’t tell me the specifics of this, but he looked at me and says, “We’re going to do more.”

And I was like, wow, you know? I’ll take him at his word. There’s no reason for him to fib to me. And I took it for real, and I know that he’s got something planned.

West isn’t much of a rule follower (which is one of the things I love about the man), and this wouldn’t be the first time he spilled the beans on the resurrection of Futurama. Just earlier in the panel, he had delivered this anecdote about the show’s second revival:

Then a second time it happened, and I announced it before it was supposed to be announced. I’m on my website, you know, tapping away, and I go, “Oh, by the way, Futurama’s coming back. It’s gonna be thirteen new episodes and everything…”

And then David Cohen called me up and he says, “I hear you have a lot of traffic on your website.”

And I say, “Yeah, you know, I told them what you guys were telling me.” But they forgot to tell me don’t tell anybody.

If there’s even an inkling of truth to this, it’s fantastic news for Futurama fans. It’s just a show that, because of the adoration of its enthusiastic fan base, simply refuses to lie down and die. And that’s awesome.

In fact, it’s almost like Futurama is singing this song to us all:

I'd like to believe Futurama will continue on Netflix or somewhere else, but I don't see how that's going to work, if they finish the story arc with Fry and Leela getting married. Would they still be working at Planet Express after that?

A marriage of Leela and Fry could not only perfectly work, it could be a source for numerous new storylines. I mean, the Simpsons do it all the time (the Van Houtens divorce, Ned hooks up with Edna,...)

I love classic Futurama and always will. The new stuff was, for the most part, forgettable and unfunny in my opinion. I'm glad we got a couple more classics like "The Late Philip J. Fry" and I did like the "Bender's Big Score" movie but I feel like the creators didn't care about the new run of Futurama. Why did they turn out so much garbage? Did they not even try? Did Comedy Central interfere and demand more raunchiness and stupidity? Oh well.

Shane I totally disagree with you I think the comedy central run was just as good as the Fox Run and further more I feel that people like you, Shane are why this show is being cancled you are all a bunch of loser haters who are in the Minority, most fans still love this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DARTHZOIDBERG: I really hope you are right! I totally agree with you that the comedy central episodes are as good as the ones from the original run.

I agree that overall, the new run is not as consistently great as the original run, but there are times that it really rises to the level of the old run. Most recently "Murder..." and "Stench..." were in that old classic vein.

Despite that, I desperately want the series to continue in some form---be it movies (again) or Netflix---and I will again support it to the best of my financial ability. I dont think there is any danger of the show becoming like Matt's other tired show, simply because the main characters are far more deep than homer and crew.

Futurama fan since day one... I think this will be the END end. Love the show - but cleary the last 15-20 episodes have had maybe 4-5 good ones, and quite a few dogs. Everything ends - and I think the show's time has come. I'll still remember laughing so hard it hurt at the amazing episodes in the fox era.

Hello? They definitely left it open to continue a new season while seemingly ending the series - and well I might add. The Proffessor says he fixed the button to send them back before he created the button. But he doesn't actually press the button. That just means they could start a new season like none of that happened. It's a parallel reality. No one needs fully explained science. It's Futurama.

After getting to watch the episode again the Professor does hit the button but new episodes could start! Fingers crossed!

the last episode was the best of the series. I do feel some of the new episodes where not as consistently good as previous ones,but who cares I love this show and I refuse to believe its over. Ill animate it myself if i have to. The problem is its never on TV. not in england anyway,so how is anyone gonna find out how awsome it is?

Hello everyone. Every great thing in history started as a dream, then one person found the resources to accomplish this dream spread among the masses and united them towards it.

I have a dream, to bring back Futurama, to ensure that it goes far beyond 7 seasons. But i can't do it alone. I need your help to do it.

For years now the cast and crew of futurama has put their blood, sweat, tears, and hearts into providing us with rich sarcastic humor, and clever satire. Giving us untold nights of late night, i just need a laugh entertainment. Years doing what they love and letting their creation brighten our minds, our hearts, and our homes.

As i'm sure you're all aware, on the title screen of the last episode an unusual phrase appeared. "Avenge Us" written in bloody letters. To me? This is our friends at Futurama asking us for help, and this is the only thing they've ever asked of us. After all this time can we really do nothing for them?

I have started a facebook group called Friends of Futurama. It is a collection of futurama loving people to talk about the show and talk to each other, but more importantly to show the TV producers just how many people still believe in this show and don't want to see it go! So stand with us, help the group grow. Remember that it is as soon as you stop basing your actions on the chances of success that success truly falls within your grasp. In an August 2013 interview with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Sagal said regarding the series finale, "So I don't believe it... I just hold out hope for it because it has such a huge fan base, it's such a smart show, and why wouldn't somebody want to keep making that show; so that's my thought, I'm just in denial that it's over". Sagal also mentioned during the same interview that Groening told her at Comic-Con that "we'll find a place" and "don't worry, it's not going to end" (in Sagal's words).
