Good news: Futurama renewed for extra-long specials

Good news, everyone! Futurama has been renewed.
At the Futurama panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, the crew confirmed the show is coming back. This time not in the usual episode format, but as a run of three extra-long specials, kicking off with a big Xmas spectacular in 2027.

Here is the exact transcript of the announcement:
Audience Member: Are you planning to do any more multi-episode specials?

David X. Cohen: Well... Oh my goodness, what a question. There is some discussion of that. I don't know if we're allowed to—Are we allowed to talk about it?

Matt Groening: We're not really allowed to talk about it, but let's talk about it!

Billy West (as Professor Farnsworth): Good news, everyone!

John DiMaggio (as Bender): We're back, baby!

David X. Cohen: So, man, we couldn't have—I feel like we put fake questioners in the audience. Like, we were gonna have our cast members ask the questions you're asking as fake questions at the end, but you guys are too good. You're too on top of it.

You know, we have this new season coming out August 3rd, but what's happening beyond that? We are renewed!

And as we've discussed a bit, again, thanks to your brilliant questions, but we are renewed and we are going to try something a little different as we do once in a while. We are going to be making, instead of a season of short episodes, a season of extra-long specials. We're gonna be making three extra-long specials as our—as our next release. The first one will be a big Xmas spectacular for 2027, so that'll be the first of a series.

So thank you, Hulu, Disney, 20th Television for the pickup. And we are back.
