Offtopic: Klez Virus

If you are using Microsoft Outlook Express for email, please, please, have a look at this anti virus site for a Klez removal tool (read the instructions). I get about 20 copies of the Klez virus a day by people who read this site. It's slowly getting annoying

In any case, DO NOT use any "virus removal tool" that is send to you by mail. That's the virus itself.

I'm no webmaster of any site, but in the last days I'm receiving similiar worms in 5 to 10 mails per day! You can choose one of the following

a) simply don't use OE6 and install a klezworm-free email reader;
b) browse, read and write your emails via web (webmail), without using a mailbrowser software at all;
c) use the removal tool suggested by Marc or an updated Antivirus like Norton Antivirus 2002 or someother (free/shareware or less) which performs a mail worm detection everytime you connect to your mailserver.

I use OE6 myself. I just don't open the wrong attachments and have my settings strict enough for OE not doing it either. I think the default settings of OE are risky though. Also, the latest IE patch seems to fix something there. Before I installed the patch I got a "want to open this" message each time a worm came in, now it doesn't anymore and just ignores it.

I wasn't addressing to you those advices of course ;-)
Me uses OE6 too - patched plus mounting Norton Antivirus 2002 and a firewall with email protection features (I think simply not opening potentially dangerous message is ok, but it could not be enough in certain cases)

Also works with Eudora as well as Outlook.

don't know - usually people who dislike OE6 for its security issues address others to different browsers (which means not only Eudora at all); personally I think OE6 works good for mail managing and I use external programs for protecting it against worms & viruses coming from the internet...

You may also want to mention that people shouldn't install any Klez removal tool that gets e-mailed to them. This is one of the tactics that Klez is taking to get on people's systems. (Yes, that removal tool e-mailed to you is actually the virus it claims to remove!) Also, if you don't have an antivirus program on your system, I'd recommend the free AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/ . I find that it's just about as good as Norton AV.
