At last, some good news!

And credit where it's due, at least they didn't try to stretch the 19 episodes over 5 disks.

On a related note . . . any news on dates for the region one (USA / CAN) release of the season 1 (and two for that matter) disks?

Well, I know it doesn't seem fair but you can always find "region free" dvd players relatively cheap. The players themselves are not illegal and amazon.co.uk sells the dvds rather inexpensively. I bought a player just for Futurama season 1 and The Family Guy season 1 and it was totally worth it.
BenJul 8th 2002, 00:00
A cheaper option than region free: It just occured to me that if you have a DVD-ROM drive you can select the region five times. I got one on my system because it was only $30 extra. I have a standalone player for my region one disks.
If anybody wants to know how to change it in "InterVideo WinDVD" it's in options (the wrench looking thing.)

Finally!!! Why didn't they manage to release the DVDs earlier? And why oh why do I still have to wait till October? AAARGH!
danJul 8th 2002, 00:00
K thats all fine and dandy but when are we gonna get those mofos at fox to make the dvds in the U.S. ! ! ! !?????????????????

I can't help but notice that it says Futurama Season Two will be out in Europe on October 16th. Here in England, DVD's only get released on Monday (and in some rare cases Saturday) which means I very much doubt it will be out on the 16th, well not here in England anyway becuse it's a Wednesday.

For those of us who don't read much French: here's a rough translation off of BabelFish.

No announcements for the US release. My guess: 2 to indefinitely many years to go.

Otis: The UK will probably get it Sept 30th.

Its good news that the next season is coming out, but were still waiting here in Australia for season 1!
col_187Jul 9th 2002, 00:00
Were also still waiting here in Australia for Seasons 3 and 4 to be shown on TV. Damn channel 7.

And judging by the British Board of Film Classification site (www.bbfc.co.uk) commentries have been submitted for review for every ep.

I have to admit, if the R2 release didn't have commentries I probably wouldn't buy it. But, huzzah! It has!

The Damo, col_187: The UK Futurama Season 1 DVD set is meant to play just fine on australian DVD players (region 4). Have a look under articles->DVD review

Ben (#6): Is there any known way to override the 5 time limit on a DVD-ROM? I know I've already changed the region like 3 or 4 times on mine... I don't plan on doing it again (although I do have two DVD-ROMs). Plus, the region free stand-alone player I got is actually damn cool. It is better in some aspects than my much more expensive US bought R1 player.

As for the DVD commentaries: They are cool to listen to and for the most part are pretty funny. I can't stand David X. Cohen's voice though. It reminds me of Milton from the movie "Office Space". Also, no matter how much I want to listen to them, I always end up falling alseep! Oh well. Here's hoping for season 3.
BenJul 9th 2002, 00:00
On some drives there are hacks available to let you reset the reset counter five times. Search the web for DVD reset and see if you can find some info about your particular drive.

Sounds great! Thank god I live in the UK! If its anywhere near as good as the season one dvd I'll be more than happy. But about 80% of those eps in season two are either great, or brilliant. I can't wait!
GWhizzJul 10th 2002, 00:00
The season 2 DVD can be pre-ordered for only
aguywhoispissedoffJul 10th 2002, 00:00
Man, I don't want to monkey around with my DVD-ROM drive, I don't want to buy a "region free" player, I just want the flocking first two seasons to be released on DVD here in the good old USA!! Is that really so frikkin' much to ask?
blahnessJul 10th 2002, 00:00
#20 said it... i already paid a bunch of my hard earned cash to buy a dvd player and i dont want to go through the hassel of hooking my computer up to my tv everytime i want to watch futurama (which is a lot)!
JohnnystormJul 10th 2002, 00:00
Well i bought a region free dvd player off of ebay and i had to send that thing back like 3 times because it didn't work but they finally got it right and i bought Futurama season 1 and family guy season 1 and it was well worth the trouble (but i will suggest that if you buy a dvd player from ebay read the cust comments about the seller
elzupaJul 10th 2002, 00:00
Well, I may not know les Francais, but when I see 4 d.v.d.'s and 19 episodes I know what I like. Damn! You guys in America...you just never seem to get the breaks...
zootheyJul 12th 2002, 00:00
I know it sucks and is totally not fair to the US fans, but why let Fox win? Why let them tell us who can watch Futurama and when?!?! You know, if/when Fox ever releases these dvds here in the states I won't feel bad or stupid for buying a region free player, I'll feel glad that they weren't able to control me the way they wanted to. You gotta fight the power man!!! heheh

Anyways, since most region free players are modified by a 3rd party you should be careful and do some research. I found a really good, reliable and very informative site for this. I bought my player from them and they are really good with tech support and questions you might have. Here's the link: www.220-electronics.com

If anyone has any questions check out the website or e-mail me and I'll tell you all about the one I bought.
