Can't get enough Futurama

Futurama on Cartoon Networks!

It's official!
The Cartoon Network bought the right to rerun all 72 Futurama episodes for the next 5 years. According to Variety (which I can't link to as they have a subscriber only policy) the non-exclusive contract is said to be worth about $10m. It "will take our Adult Swim programming to a whole different level," said Jim Samples. Reruns are meant to start in January in Cartoon Network's 10pm to 1am Adult Swim block.

This said:
  • It does give FOX some additional incentive to order more episodes, as $10m is probably about 10 to 20% of the total costs FOX had with Futurama.
  • It might allow American Futurama DVDs to get on the market in the next few years
  • Futurama gets to show how well it works with an older audience.
Thanks to Corey for notifying me!

It's just reruns.
If the show does well, will they make new episodes?

Well what about us Canadians? Are we doomed to watch Futurama on FOX and Global only???

Actually Global shows Futurama at around 12-4 on some days.. Saturday nights CAN be fun.

CN isn't too bad, I watch(ed) it for some reasons when I'm in the U.S.

-They show the classic Tom & Jerrys :) :) :)
-Adult Swim (Home Movies and The Brak Show, I have all the MSN Hill eps)

And DBZ... though we get them here too..

this is the reason 'gotfuturama' is my home page, things like this news make me not want to jump in the "stop-n-drop!"

This is awesome news, especially if it means the possibility of new episodes. Plus it does a lot to boost Adult Swim. I can think of several people immediately who don't usually watch Cartoon Network but might now, given this news.

So, my next question is, WHEN will Cartoon Network be doing the same thing for Family Guy?

As far as I know, this is CN's biggest investment yet, so they are sure to handle it like a gem and give it promotion (at least within their channel).

Arrrk! I just had me an orgasm.

FOXecutive: "But...but we don't OWN 'Futurama,' therefore, it sucks. What part of that don't you idiots understand!? Now, help me pry my head out of Gail's butt."
xxmangexxSep 10th 2002, 00:00
wait, the blurp on the front page says 72 episodes, but the episode guide only refers to 56 epospdes. what are the other 16???
[-mArc-]Sep 10th 2002, 00:00
xxmangexx: They got the right to all 4 *production* seasons. FOX didn't show them all yet due to pre-emptions. The remaining 16 will (partially?) be aired starting November 10th.

At last! A channel that will give Futurama the respect it deserves. I've always been a fan of CN -- even though they were forced to butcher the old TnJ shows. This is truely a great day for Futurama!
NarkissosSep 10th 2002, 00:00
well.........just as long as they DON'T change ANYTHING like the voices or the comidy then i think it's ok but still............
ghoulishmooseSep 11th 2002, 00:00

Words cannot express how happy I am right now. Well, maybe they can.
Wooo ... oooooooooo!
fritzSep 15th 2002, 00:00
yeah baby!!!

i hope cn makes a huuuuge profit.
then fox will realise what idiots they are.
go cartoon network!!!!

[-mArc-]Sep 15th 2002, 00:00
CN is probably going "muhuhahaha" right now seeing that they got the deal fixed before the emmy upped the virtual price tag.
someanonymouswankerSep 15th 2002, 00:00
Yeah!
I hope CN actually show Futurama in the UK, unlike most of their good stuff (anything on Adult Swim in the US, except Home Movies)... or maybe Sky One will just keep it.
JesSep 26th 2002, 00:00
CN will ave to order more eps since only 56 are listed in te episode uide, unless more exist but werent aired
mars396Sep 26th 2002, 00:00
WOOO HOOO! ! !

Could new episodes someday be a reality ?
With NO possibility of sports preemptions, there should be monster ratings !
