Season 2 DVD Imports to USA

Firstly: Sorry, there is no Futurama US DVD release news - neither season 1 nor season 2.

What you can do: Check if your DVD player is 'hackable' to region 2 and can convert PAL to NTSC. Many of the cheap and popular Apex models do that. As far as I know, Playstation2 won't though. (correct me in the comments).

The good thing is: If you have what's needed, importing it is all the nicer: When ordering from outside the EU, amazon will remove the VA-Tax which gets you a grand total of 53% off! This means even with shipping it's only $34 to the US.

PS: Yesterday evening, the set was at sales rank 239, this morning, it's at 19 already UPDATE: now we are #1! Hooray! Party at Zoidy's.

If you don't have a region-free player yet you should get one. They're pretty cheap on eBay. Or, if you already have a nice region 1 machine then get a used DVD-ROM drive to use for dedicated region 2.
If you get one that's <= 4x and download DVD-Genie then you can make your computer region-free. Drives that old can be had for like $20.

Having a region 2 capable player has become a big advantage recently: You can not only get Futurama season 1 and 2, but also Family guy and lots of other series way in advance. Buffy fans etc will value this.

Actually, PS2's can play region 2 dvds. But you need to either chip the ps2 (meaning hack it), or buy something called "region x" which costs about 30 dollars. Reigion X is a boot disk for ps2 systems that lets you play all regions.

The Region X disc doesn't fix the PAL/NTSC thing - I recently bought a Region 1 NTSC DVD, used Region X to play it on my Region 2 PAL PS2 (with Sony PAL Trinitron TV, circa 1996), and it was in black and white. Dammit.

If I'm not mistaken, the black/white could also be due to a wrong scart cable, but I'm not even sure if RegionX works on region-1 PS2s ...
Most European TVs with RGB/Scart slots play NTSC without problems, so conversion isn't needed that way. Not so many American TVs can play PAL though.

About the Region X problem, i got myself a region X for my Pal Ps2, it plays all regions fine, even region 1's and and NTSC coded pal. i can use a RGB scart without the Screen going all green aswell, well worth

The NTSC black & white problem isn't anything to do with the Region X - my TV doesn't support NTSC properly, and if that's the case a Region X won't do jack about it.

Hey mArc... MANY THANKS for the link to the region-free hack. I didn't realize my Apex (yes, I'm cheap!) model had a simple code I could put in. I always assumed I had to buy a modification chip or something. But I tried it and it works!

My model # is AD-1200.
Open the tray. Wait 30 seconds. On the remote control, enter 8-4-2-1. You'll get a prompt to select a region. Supposedly, you can also disable Macrovision from the same prompt but I haven't tried this yet.
