Simpsons to get the Futurama treatment

With the very future of Futurama on hold, it looks like Groening's other concern, The Simpsons will soon be getting some of the Futurama treatment.

No, it will not be getting pre-empted by baseball, or having its production team sacked - its animation process however, will be digitally produced starting with "The Great Louse Detective" (EABF01), scheduled to air in March 2003.

Although digital based animation is undoubtedly superior to traditional animation, it has been known for some time that The Simpsons producers did not want to "mess" with a winning formula.

So woohoo you may say to new episodes of The Simpsons being animated to the standard of Futurama - now if only we could have a guaranteed supply of Futurama!

imho, that marks the well known decay of 'the simpsons'...

The Simpsons isn't just any animation, it's a style, like Futurama, it's got it's own unique style. It just wouldn't be the same drawn any differently, same as if futurama was drawn using a sharp stick into the mud, It just won't work!

The Simpsons when season 11 started to show has been down falling because of not haveing the same humor like it did when it first stared now it has more of a lame South Park rip off humor.

Now there chageing the animation too!

The Simpsons are not going to be the some show pretty soon!

well, wasnt south park drawn horribly the first few episodes? i like the way south park looks now. all clean and digital. so maybe it will be better. maybe theyll actually make good episodes now.

Well, I think that's good. More people will realize that the time of the Simpsons ist over now and stop watching it, so the foxes can finally do what they love to do: cancel it.

I don't think they're screwing with the actual animation too much - it's mainly the colouring that is going to be digitally processed, due in part to a shortage of people willing to actually colour the cells by hand... Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

geeze guys stop criticizing the simpsons its a great show, tied with futurama, thats bs in my opinion, for its a great idea and written show, also i dunno if u know this but theirs some people who work on simpsons that also work on futurama, apparently u guys are clueless

the fact is: simpsons has been going downhill ever since season 11. (umhh, hint? fut started?), we all know how sucky simpsons have become since. my guess is david x cohen and groening thought the show could keep up for itself and took the best writers to support futurama (wise desicion), and thus, we got some lousy seasons (11-12-13), 12 not being as bad. Now that futurama got axed, my guess is people will go back to simpson's arena, so i got some high spirits for s14. anyway, id hate to see that fut needed to be shot to save the decaying simpson's empire. if i was to choose, id keep futurama, kill simpsons. Another point is, that there is a hell lot of investment in digital animation to just throw it away, so producers might have thought to incorporate that technology to simpson's production chain instead of just canning it. which, might make it easier in the future if more futurama is to be done :)))

again, all these are just my assumptions, no facts, correct me if im wrong.
