Last Sunday's Episode "Jurassic Bark" managed to score an above average 6.9/10 overnight Nielsen rating, beating those of both Malcom episodes. It's been a while since we saw that magic second digit behind the the slash The reviews look like 90% absolutely loved it and 10% absolutely hated it. Also, I noticed how lots of new people ran off to the search engines and found us yesterday. All good signs.

Let's hope that these people who just found the greatness of Futurama are able to cope with the next two weeks which ... are reruns and sports...

Wow, those are some pretty good numbers for ratings. Of course, let me try to think like Fox for just a moment... *slams head into wall several times* High Futurama numbers and low Malcom numbers can only mean one thing... Futurama has poisoned the ratings of our Sunday night line-up!

All in all, I think this ep, if nothing else, got people talking. And any buzz about Futurama is good.

The different numbers come to be through using different sources. I used the metered market overnight Nielsens. Zap2it uses "fast national data". It's best to stick to the same system when comparing ratings. The season opener had a 5.5/9 rating in the overnights and came up as 2.6 on the weekly chart. Using that chart, this week's episode had 600,000 more viewers than last week.

Well, I still think FOX should air an encore presentation of "Jurassic Bark" for all those who couldn't see it or had their FOX affiliate pick it up late. However, the reruns might work to our advantage. "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" is a great episode and could do a lot to pulling in a fan base that swelled last week (from new viewers or viewers that haven't watched in a while).

So what are the "real" ratings numbers? I mean, what would FOX be looking at here? That's hilarious if Futurama really did beat Malcom in the ratings.

In addition to its cushy timeslot, Malcom gets promoted all the time over here, while I have not seen ONE SINGLE COMMERCIAL for Futurama this season.

Futurama is the only show that takes such a big slip when going to the weekly charts. Might have to do with 'that sports' thing pre-empting it. Maybe one of the figures was calculated to compensate it. But the more important thing is that it went upwards on all scales.

american football ALWAYS runs long...
