FOX renews Simpsons, King of the Hill

But no word of Futurama. Which is probably a bad sign.

In a Variety article, president Gail Berman says about the Simpsons: "In its 14th season, the show is doing some of its funniest episodes and best numbers.
"King of the Hill," meanwhile, has "aided in the branding of our network as the only broadcaster that's been able to tackle primetime animation," she said.

Ahem, "tackled" and killed two of the funnier animation shows on TV.

I'd like to teach Gail about branding. Ew, smells like rancid bacon.

That's what you use a branding iron for...

FOX has had many animated shows in the past fifteen years of it's existence. Of course, it all started with The Simpsons, then King of the Hill, followed by the cartoon boom (which hit on other networks too, in the forms of Dilbert, God the Devil and Bob, Baby Blues, etc.). Futurama, Family Guy and The PJ's were FOX's newest toon additions. The PJ's was funny, albeit not the comic gem that Family Guy and Futurama was. When the PJ's moved to the WB, I knew it was over, since they scheduled it Sundays at 7, a death slot. Family Guy is still one of my all time favorite toons, much higher up than The Simpsons, but sadly they were canned too. Futurama is the last surviving cartoon from the Toon Boom, and I wish FOX would give it another chance over the vastly inferior King of the Hill.

The Critics was shipped from ABC to FOX only to be killed shortly after. A great show, little promotion and support.

I still can't believe how FOX treats the emmy winning Futurama though! Wow, they really want it dead, and dead soon.

"In its 14th season, the show is doing some of its funniest episodes and best numbers. "

I don't think Gail Berman actually watched the first ten years of the Simpsons to compare.

Both of the shows renewed are past their prime while Futurama is still consistantly funny. I guess we can still hope for a Futurama movie.

Of course Simpsons is getting great ratings: Doesn't mean EVERYBODY knows the quality of the show has gone drastically down hill. We all do. But everyone tunes in anyway, just to see whether a) a gem is hidden in the rough, or b) how low it's gotten. It certainly is NOT doing its best episodes and should end soon. At least Seinfeld had the panache to go out while it was still funny. I don't think the Simpsons will. But Futurama in Simpsons time slot- people are so used to tuning in then anyway I guarentee the ratings don't go down a smidge.

Kill of the Hill simply should never be shown in Canada. It's a American humour, somehow, and is horribly BORING. Futurama wold certainly do better in its time slot, given the chance.

Also: Somebody should TOTALLY pick up Undergrads from MTV, that show is almost as funny as Futurama. The only thing close on TV these days...

I wish The Simpsons and King of the Hill would end. KotH was never very funny and it's almost depressing to see The Simpsons, the funniest show on TV 8 years ago, make mediocre episodes nowadays.

KING OF THE HILL SUX AND IT DOESNT GET AS MANY VIEWERS AS FUTURAMA, IVE NEVER REALLY LAUGHED AT THAT SHOW, simpsons i must say is still very very very good, although the new episodes seem like they havent spent much time on

Splee: I have to take exception to your implication that King of the Hill is American humor. Unfortunately, it is American but, that show has nothing to do with humor.

Thank God for Cartoon Network! I love seeing the Futurama ads on the trains and buses here in NY! If Fox can't handle it, they should sell the first-run rights to Cartoon Network and then we'll see a network that can tackle prine-time animation.
