This is good. If Groening is pissed off with FOX it means that he may well take his next show to a more deserving network.

Plus, Futurama publicity in the same sentance as a curse word. That's got to count for something. Hell, maybe Groening will finally let The Simpsons die in an act of vengenace against the evil network, and go on to produce an animated "Life in Hell" assuming of course that it hasn't already been done.

Matt will never produce a Life In Hell cartoon, he loves the strip too much to mistreat it like that.

Totalnerduk: if Groening lets The Simpsons die as an act of vengeance, it won't be anytime soon. FOX has renewed it for another two or three seasons.

I wonder if Matt Groening had made the same comment in case that Futurama would have beaten The Simpsons. I doubt it.

I actually read Groening's comments in a different way than everyone else here. I took it to mean that he had conflicted feelings over the awards outcome. Happy to be part of the Simpsons but sad that he also had a show that didn't win - Futurama. I could be wrong though as the first time I read the quote it sounded like he was trying to make a statement. Had Futurama won the same response would have been appropriate. As the creator of Futurama I am very proud. As the creator of the Simpsons I am very pissed. Works both ways.
Is there any more available from the speeches to better put in context Groening's comments? Or how was the comment delivered? With good humour or with a little vinegar?

good for matt! i think he just doesn't give a damn anymore, and is speaking his mind, even if it pisses off fox. by renewing the simpsons, it's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that all fox is interrested in is making money only in america, look how successful futurama has been in other countries, and the sales of the dvds. and another 2 years of the simpsons? it was a good show, but let's face it, it's jumped the shark! let it die with some dignity!

Im a huge Simpsons fan don't get me worng, I grew up watching them. But the last 3 or 4 Seaons are getting really bad. I can't see them going on any longer and Matt Groening has be getting tired of it. Homer has gotten way to stupid, Marge even seems dumber so on and so on. Its nothing like it was 4 seaons ago. So any way Futurama has too or was Matt's love. Some Shows (of the Simpsons) not to long ago had SciFi Themes. I Say Kill the Simpsons now!! Make a movie to end it. I really hate to say it Kill Futurama Make a Movie Trilogy, it seems they can't bring the show back (I Wish). Then Bring back the team for a new show on Cartoon Network, Where they care about their shows. NOT FOX!!! So what im trying to say is Matt should back stab fox and else where (Note:These are just my ideas its what I think futurama is my 2ed favort next to the simpsons)

Dang, Groening seems really pissed at Fox now. And deservingly so: even if this is just a joke, I get the feeling he things a bit less of the current episodes (he once said he tried to get the power to kill simpsons, but that "Fox's very polite response was 'no way in hell'"), and Fox's treatment of Futurama has been of course abysmal.

As for Life in Hell, Groening once said he had a list of possible show ideas and, at the time, Life in Hell was 7th or 8th on the list apparently. So most likely it wont happen, but it sounds like he's interested in doing another show regardless.

I strongly disagree about The Simpsons. There was a definite slump a few years ago where it was "too cartoony" but the last season and the current one have been a huge improvement. A lot of the plots are still far-fetched, but it's a lot funnier now than it was around 1999-2001.

I still like Futurama better, though.

Matt must have felt guilty for getting the simpsons award. It feels so wrong for me to say this (as a longtime simpsons fan) but the new episodes are only still successful because they are riding on the brilliance of past seasons. The show is not anywhere near as bad as some people are making it out to be, in fact its still a bloody entertaining show. But there is a noticable drop in quality from the "classic" episodes. Ever since it started Futurama has been the superior show. It should have won the award, because i think anybody who thinks the simpsons is still as good as it used to be is in denial.

In a recent documentry on BBC 2 Matt said he is either planning to do a life in hell series or more likely a animated show with a rock and roll theme.
I know that everbody says the futurama movie is due in 2005, but does anyone have any offical details on production, storylines, cast...

Did anyone hear Matt Groening's other quote when he was accepting an award for The Simpsons? Unfortunately now its a paraphrasation, but it was like
"I'm pleased to be part of a show thats so beautifully drawn, brilliantly voiced and wonderfully intelligent. But I'm not here to talk about Futurama..."

i've been a longtime fan of simpsons but i agree that the simpsons havent been the same for a loong time. some of the more recent episodes have been funny but not haha funny like the original. its not the same humor. it seems misappropriated. it's not matt's humor. i wish matt would keep futurama going rather than starting something new and let simpsons go. simpsons' name is just getting ruined the longer it goes on.

Futurama, on the other hand, makes me burst out laughing at least twice every episode. I can't believe FOX could be so ridiculously stupid as to let it go like this..

I agree the simpsons aren't as good as they were but they're still better than 90% of the stuff on tv.
