Can't get enough Futurama

Boobjob Beats Bender

FOX Network changed their mind about showing Futurama this Sunday and now scheduled a third run of Marge Simpson getting breast implants to show in its place. The episode first aired in November 2002 and then again as recently as the 300th episode Sunday in February.

The week afterwards (03/26) will be Futurama-free, too. The Oscar ceremonies are countered by FOX airing "True Lies", which incidentally pre-empted Futurama one year ago on 03/25, too.

Now there are 9 Sundays left till end of May on which Futurama could air but 10 episodes remaining...

UPDATE: 03/30 lists "Futurama - Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles" but I'm not going to believe that anytime soon. It's also the same Sunday on which "The Pitts" is poised to premiere and use up one of Malcom's slots. Meanwhile, TVGiudeLive lists Futurama as "On indefinite hiatus".

yeah... here we go... nice work FOX...
KristiMar 14th 2003, 00:00
I'm almost ashamed to have FOX be my favorite network. But it has a couple good shows.
huhMar 14th 2003, 00:00
god I HATE fox. i never knew why futurama constantly got left out until I found this website today. i didn't even know it was cancelled, although I should have realized it. FOX is the WORST television network next to UPN.
CliveMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Well being from the UK, it seems that sky one could over take fox in the states, if they replace it with crap episodes of the simpsons like the one above!
CarbitoMar 14th 2003, 00:00
What possible advantage can Fox see in showing a repeat of The Simpsons instead of a new episode of Futurama? That episode is not even that good, I guess it all goes back of the theory that sex sells.
GreggMar 14th 2003, 00:00
The executives of Fox should be taken out into the car park and shot.

From what I've been reading of this website since I found out it had been cancelled, it seems all politics are involved to aggravate Matt Groening.

I live in the UK and do not have Sky, so I wait with anticipation for the DVD releases and obviously only have watched as far as series 2.

Shame such a brilliant show has been treated like shit. Matt Groening must be fuming....
AdAMMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Ahh, man!
You got to be kidding!!
Hello Season 6......
GocadMar 14th 2003, 00:00
FOX's behaviour is strange. They don't support Futurama, but they also seem reluctant to annouce that they killed the show. Instead they keep stalling and say something like: "Relax, FOX has still a number of new, unaired episodes to show. So stop asking."
BennMar 14th 2003, 00:00
If they're not going to show it, at least beam it out to the affiliates and then order them not to show it. Make the IRC-challenged Americans wait for it, but don't deprive we who have the means and the will...
BU1141Mar 14th 2003, 00:00
::Implodes into a million pieces::

But seriously, how many death threats have FOX execs recived? I think I'll start writing one...now.
matboislimMar 14th 2003, 00:00
damn! I was so looking forward 2 c ing futurama dis week!
PCCFredMar 14th 2003, 00:00
"Large Marge"? BAH! Everyone knows FOX are the biggest boobs around!
JulietMar 14th 2003, 00:00
I so pissed off right now

All I can say is I'm glad the U.K doesn't have a shitty channel like fox.
MichaelMar 14th 2003, 00:00
You know what I think? FOX will never again air an episode of Futurama. See if I'm right.
bumblebeeMar 14th 2003, 00:00
FOX is a bunch of *sshats.
i had been looking forward to a new futurama episode.
Futurama preemted for a rerun?
FOCKS!
FarfetchdMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Ugh. They could at have at least pre-empted it with a GOOD Simpsons episode. Sunday nights are the only ones I watch FOX anymore, and once Futurama, Simpsons and Malcom are gone, it's so long FOX for me.
Cygnus-himeMar 14th 2003, 00:00
That really pisses me off, since I was REALLY looking forward to seeing "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles." But apparently Fox can't enough of Marge Simpson's breast. This isn't annoying what they've pre-empted this episode for--it's pretty tasteless, and really insulting to the intelligence of Futurama fans. I'm worried that Fox will never air an episode of Futurama again but will be keep pre-empting it for crap like this. ;_;
jc_iceMar 14th 2003, 00:00
TV listings here in Canada still have a Futurama episode listing for CIII (Global Toronto) scheduled for 03/16/2003 at 7:00 ET, although there is no episode description given. There may be a very, very slim chance it will be a new episode (in which case it would be downloadable online), but I wouldn't hold my breath.

JC
hopieMar 14th 2003, 00:00
well once again my weekend hopes are destroyed - all my favourite shows are on a break over there in the US so i cant download new eps

its especially annoying as the original schedules suggested this episode would be shown on the 9th of march and now TWO DAYS before air date its cancelled again - oh well just got south park to look ahead to now
dudeMar 14th 2003, 00:00
WEll it goes on and on fox has always done this.I can't even count all the times they said " it's the grand reoping of futurama back on our network".once they preempted it so much I thought it was cancelled . Well I rediscovered it was'nt cancelled the sunday less than hero came on.well I'm buying the first and 2nd season tapes when they come out . well hopefully the fith and probally sixth season tapes should have all our missed episodes on their.if they come out with fith and sixth dvds. awesome episode thursday night on cartoon network it made me cry almost.
vectorpupMar 14th 2003, 00:00
yeah, i've got a comment.....

i've been looking forward to seeing a new episode for two weeks, which isn't long compared to the average wait, but...sunday is my birthday!! all i wanted for the big 2-3 was to settle in at night with my whole family (except grandma and grandpa) to enjoy a rare new episode of my favorite show....
that tears it!!
from now on, i'm officially the network's worst enemy! i only wish i had the strength to boycott the few remaining quality programs on fox. maybe it won't be hard, since now the simpsons is being exploited, too--can anyone think of a reason they would air "large marge" a third time? if i were involved in making the show, i'd be fed up by now....
argh...fox, have you no shame?
DanimalMar 14th 2003, 00:00
We shouldn't be surprised. FOX has treated this incredible show like crap since it began. It almost seems like they're looking for newer and more insulting ways to snub it. Next they'll just run a half hour of uninterrupted commercials in it's place. This travesty of scheduling would piss more people off than just us diehards if FOX had ever promoted or aired the show enough for more people to have heard of it.
BrianBrownMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Gee, maybe Groining needs to go back and remaster some of the remaining episodes so there'll be more naked Leela, then maybe it'll compete with Marge's Big Breasts.

The suggestion that Fox may never air another new episode of futurama at this point seems like a good bet. THen again maybe they're just trying to shore up the rating for this new Charlie Beane show, which was delayed from last fall, which the critics have not liked and is being aired in the deadzone after sweeps. It FOX is trying to rescue a horrible money sink in BEANE that may explain why they're pre-empting Futurama with Simpsons re-runs on the grounds that more people will watch the Simpsons at 7PM than Futurama. There's a word for people who think like that...I just don't want to write it out and melt down the computer.

Finally... It strikes me that there may be a REAL REASON why Fox has not broadcast all the remaining Futurama episodes or formally announce that the show has been cancelled. A reason which Groining is contractually obligated not to divulge. I'm only guessing here but maybe ownership of the show reverts to Groining only after it's been cancelled by Fox or maybe Fox loses syndication rights after it cancells the show.
TeralMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Well, that's as a good a guess as any, BB. But whatever the reason is, you'll find it by following the money trail.

Helloooo, seasons 6, 7 and 8!
ChrysMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Well, seems to ME that the Fox Network should be dealt with by Project Mayhem (you know, from "Fight Club")...
CueballMar 14th 2003, 00:00
damn, I start to hate the simpsons, oh well --> If everything comes to DVD sooner or later (Futurama that iz), I'm happy !
JamesMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Although i'm bloody mad at Fox for pre-empting Futurama (as this could directly effect the run of season 5 on Sky One in the UK), i wish everone would stop slagging off the Simpsons, i think it's fair to asume that most Futurama fans previously grew up watching Matts first animated series befoe they got into Futurama. And although i now prefer Futurama to The Simpsons, i still love the show.
I also have a theory as to why Fox is determined not to finish Futurama this season, once the last episode is aired Fox have to officaly anounce the cancellation, right? Well, maybe they have decided to produce more episodes (for a real production season 5), but since these won't be ready for a while they are dragging out the lifespan of the remaining episodes.
Even if Fox currently have no plans to renew the show, and they make season 6,7,8... although this would be frustrating, surely it creates more time to persuade them to renew Futurama?
If they only show one episode a year and this goes on till 2015 (or somthing)that means Futurama is still officialy not cancelled, and there is still time to save it.
Anyway that's just my theory, i'm sure someone will point out a major flaw, but what do you think?
KarmynCrabbMar 14th 2003, 00:00
That's it. I'm boycotting Fox. I'm so tired of the Simpsons. It's not even funny anymore. I want Futurama. I try to watch it on Cartoon Network but half the time I fall asleep waiting for it. I need my Fry fix.
JamesMar 14th 2003, 00:00
For the record #20 dude, there won't be season 5 or 6 DVD or VHS releases (unless Futurama is renewed and makes new episodes) because unlike the shit heads at the Fox network the DVDs actually honour the original order the episodes were produced in, all 72 episodes will be released in 4 DVD sets. Season three will be out in the UK on June 2nd
PipianMar 14th 2003, 00:00
I'm hoping that the rest of the eps show next year, and they announce that they ordered new eps for the next year, thus saving it..
MorboMar 14th 2003, 00:00
I WILL DESTROY FOX!!!!!!
CutedgeMar 14th 2003, 00:00
For record, I don't slag the Simpsons because I feel more 'elitist' by watching Futurama. I slag the Simpsons because it's gone gradually downhill to the point that I can't watch it anymore. I was watching one of the new episodes a month ago and I actually turned it off midway. I haven't watched any new Simpsons since.
dudeMar 14th 2003, 00:00
thanks for the info 29# james if they make new episodes once a season where will they put it? if like in season 6#
NickMar 14th 2003, 00:00
I'm starting to look forward for season 15 as at this rate we'll have one episode per season....
BrainSluggoMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Cutedge is right on about "The Simpsons." Look at the pre-empting episode! It's total crap. If this was a rare occasion, or even just an "off" season, I'd still be watching regularly--but it's not. This is what the show's been like for years now. I've seen two whole episodes in the last season that weren't complete disasters.

FOX will keep doing this to you all until you quit taking it.
KnowOneMar 14th 2003, 00:00
God Damn FOX!!! If there going to show Simpsons Episodes Show some good Classic ones, not the same trashy ones over and Over!!!
RorschachMar 14th 2003, 00:00
#27James: That's a nice theory you had there but I really wonder if you were serious when you wrote it. If you were serious, then I love your immagination, keep dreaming ;)

#18JC: Yup! You better not hold your breath because the chances are zero, null, nothing. Global has never showed a new Futurama episode before Fuckx and it never will. We get the same treatment as our bros in the US.

I hate Fuckx (but not Global) and I hate the now-crappy Simpsons as much as I hate the crappy-all-the-way King of the Hill >:(
RorschachMar 14th 2003, 00:00
By the way, In my opinion Marge was never sexy and she never will be. It's like trying to make a toilet brush look attractive
CutedgeMar 14th 2003, 00:00
I just had a bad thought, which has probably been said by someone else at some point...

Futurama is now on Cartoon Network with great success, but it is still not doing well on Fox because of their lack of attention for it. If Fox doesn't renew (which they won't... let's face facts), then Cartoon Network can _probably_ order new episodes themselves, and make competition for Fox. So, if Fox continues to show one episode or two every six months, they are still showing it and therefore CN can't order new episodes.

Does this make sense or am I just loony?
LeahMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Dammit, what the hell is wrong with Fox? We all know that they don't give a crap about Futurama, but geez, this is getting *way* out of hand! I had some hope that Futurama may be renewed, but for me, now almost all hope (if not all hope) is dashed. If Fox doesn't want Futurama, then why don't they just hand over the remaining episodes to CN, dammit! It violates all rules of logic. But then again, this is Fox we're talking about. I also quit watching the new Simpsons eps, in mid-January to be precise. That show have gotten completely crappy, and there are better things on TV to watch at 8:00 p.m. It's absolutely unbelievable that Fox has decided to can Futurama, but has decided to renew the Simpsons for another two deplorable seasons. I can't wait till Fox finally gives up on Futurama. Then I'll have no reason to watch anything on that channel anymore.
lambiMar 14th 2003, 00:00
@ #39: probable, but unlikely. The production of a Futurama season is quite expensive, and, even though Futurama had quite a bit of success on CN, I doubt they'll be able to make some money out of a newly produced season.
IMHO the "syndication"-argument is the most likely one. Once FOX has officially cancelled the show, the rights will probably be available to others with FOX not having the exclusive syndication rights anymore.
MichaelMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Of course CN will be able to make money out of a new season! This means they will own the distribution rights to the show, so will get oney from all other stations that buy the new season, portions from DVD sales, merchandise etc...
matboislimMar 14th 2003, 00:00
No one watch the simpsons repeat! we cant let it get a better rating so mayb they'll stop replacing futurama
LibertyMar 14th 2003, 00:00
TURNING BRAIN OFF
Fox is cool. Fox is brilliant. Marge's breasts are cool. Best Simpsons' episode ever. I love the last four years of The Simpsons. I love repeats. Futurama sucks, it seems an intelligent show, it scares me. Fox is cool. Fox is brilliant.
TURNING BRAIN ON
Fox Sucks.

rjbeckerMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Scumbags, all Fox is really made up of, like anyone in major television programming, I say hijack the rights, kill as many Fox executives as you can, and have cartoon network air any and all future episodes.
Rot in hell, Fox
ShadowBunMar 14th 2003, 00:00
Although this announcement burns me as much as any other self-respecting Futurama fan, I have to say, on a side note, that Large Marge actually IS a pretty good episode. In fact, I find The Simpsons worlds better than it was in seasons 11 and 12. Ah well, just one guy's opinion.

Still, I was really looking forward to Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles.
DotheBartmanfromtheNHCMar 15th 2003, 00:00
While season 13 was a legitimately good season, this season of the Simpsons has thrown almost every improvement right out the window. Sorry, but this season of the Simpsons is one of, if not the, worst yet, and almost complete garbage. "Large Marge" in particular was just insulting to my intelligence.

Meanwhile, Futurama has been pure gold (and ten times better then the Simpsons) since it premiered, yet Fox continues to spit on it. If The Simpsons doesn't pick up in quality DRASTICALLY, I wont have any problem completely boycotting Fox next season.
quotFoxquotIthinkImGonnauMar 15th 2003, 00:00
As far as I'm concerned, Fox no longer exists. I've watched fox on sunday night for many years. It Seems like they want to kill the shows that bring viewers to them. It shows a total lack of respect for the people that make the shows.

Anywho futurama and the simpsons will eventually be on DVD. It could take years, but then who would have thought 4 seasons would turn to 5 and 5 into simpsons reruns. Anywho DVD's don't have commercials, and you can watch a DVD anytime you want. What does this mean for Fox, less money from advertising, and fewer ignorant shows like Joe construction worker,or who wants to marry a thousandaire, or Tempation Ignoramus.
luskanMar 15th 2003, 00:00
It so fu#$% no fair :(((((
GavstaMar 15th 2003, 00:00
Why dont Cartoon Network sign up Greoning and the rest of the team to come up with a new show altogether. seeing as it'll be the same people making the show the jokes would be just as funny and Cartoon Network could support it showing it every week. Meanwhile no-one watches Simpsons or Futurama on fox anymore, relying on either downloaded eps or the DVD's, to show them just how crap they really are.
CarTMaNMar 15th 2003, 00:00
Can any1 go and destroy FOX for me? (j/k, but i'm really pissed at them...........)
FoxisjustliketheothernetwMar 16th 2003, 00:00
Fox continues to show their intelligents by canceling another good kick-ass show. The same thing has happened to The Critic and Family Guy over the past few years. By this point I am tired of The Simpsons and want to watch something besides King of the Hill and Futurama was the best show next to That '70s Show. Now with That '70s Show moved to Wednesday nights because of the dumb-ass American Idol show where morons try to win a Star Search rip-off contest, Fox is now on my "Don't Watch Unless You Want To Melt Your Brain Away" list. God bless the Cartoon Network for their appreication for the Futurama show.Maybe one day Cartman will come out of the television screen and go to Fox offices and kick their asses!
PhillipJMar 16th 2003, 00:00
FOX IS EVIL. How is it that a crappy Simpsons episode running for the third time this year will get better ratigns than a new Futurama??? I was looking forward to seeing Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles... the only good show left on FOX is Malcolm in the Middle. That's it, it's over people. Watch Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. They're actually smart.
JimMar 16th 2003, 00:00
FOX can kiss my arse. I hate them so fricken much.

Screw oliver beene. I hope it dies a painful death.
SRMMar 16th 2003, 00:00
OK, now this means war and I have a mode of attack. At least for those of us within the USA.

Here's the plan, FOX happens to be a broadcast network. Which means that they and their affiliates are subject to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). The concept is that the FCC grants licenses to local stations to broadcast for the "Public Good." I submit that our local affiliates are violating that trust by their association with the Fox Network which fails to provide descent programming for it's audience. That you request that the FCC revoke the affiliate's license to operate.

I don't expect them to actually shut down an affiliate but, I believe the affiliates will have to answer to th FCC, thus causing them grief and relaying that grief to Fox. It's worth a try. Here is the FCC address:

Federal Communications Commission
445 12th Street, SW
Washington, DC 20554
AaronStraderMar 16th 2003, 00:00
If anyone has an email address for someone at scheduling at Cartoon Network, please let me know... My email is tomservo1@sbcglobal.net.

I'd like to tell them to ask fox for the rest of the run of the series. I want to see the Why of Fry soooo badly.

It's the only way we will guaranteedly get to see this and the other unaired episodes, because fox obviously.

It's not fair that we be made to wait for Fox to decide to release the episodes. Since Fox doesn't want them and Fox doesn't rerun the last episodes of their shows, see Xfiles, Married w/ Children, etc... I think it should be fair to assume that Fox has no interest in ever showing the series on their network again, so Give CN something exclusive, and let them benefit from it.

Screw you Fox. 1 show left on the air... 2 more years... And you'll lose a viewer, for life.

EvilNixon666Mar 16th 2003, 00:00
I'm dissapointed, but not shocked, as like everyone else I've seen this happen SO often lately... FOX executives must be the world's worst, because they constantly do stupid crap like this that costs them viewers, and thus, money.

Their new line up looks like assfest 2003. A new "malcolm-esque" series, but NOW it's set in the 1950's! BRILLIANT! More ultra-stupid reality shows that appeal to the lowest common denominator! GENIUS!!
OlZebMar 17th 2003, 00:00
It is supposed to be about money.

Something else is afoot.

Years ago on CBS was a fantastic program called "Frank's Place." The moved it's slot so often even the show's producers didn't know when it was on. It too was written for viewers with a 3-digit IQ (hey, that's only half the population) but it rubbed some of the suits wrong. It died after one season.

Ya' think you can overpower Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes? Yeah, right. Try arguing with mugger and let me know how it goes.

Write letters -- real paper -- to thank those responsible for CREATING the programs you like. Write to CN and thank them for airing Futurama.
Write to the sponsors. Make sure that the next creative and intellignet shows don't die in their cribs.

Ol' Zeb
WendellMar 17th 2003, 00:00
Well I'm Really pissed with Fox.I Think a bunch of futurama fans should getogether and storm the Fox building where futurama is transmitted from and trash the place and steal all the futurama ep tapes and of couse the new unaired ones and kill all the fox executives or give them brain transplants. Whatever works.and those new eps show be uploaded to the net.in the words of bender
"KILL ALL HUMANS" it Should be "KILL ALL FOX EXECUTIVES". Die motherF%@kers die.
IcehousemanMar 17th 2003, 00:00
I'm a newbie for Futurama. I started watching when it came on Cartoon Network. I agree with the person who said that Fox is probably dragging out the last Futurama episodes as long as they can so Cartoon Network or any other interested party won't try to air new episodes and compete against Fox. Right now I see them showing maybe 2 a month until the end of May. Then we'll hear the "news" that they're coming out with Season 6, all new episodes. 6 Seasons only 72 episodes. Star Trek only had 3 seasons and they got 79 episodes on the air.

So Fox is evil. Nothing new there. At least 24 is coming back for season 3, not entirely evil I guess. I think Cartoon Network would be a great place for Futurama. Futurama reruns are doing great there and CN has saved other shows from oblivion like Home Movies. However, being realistic, I think this show will end at episode #72. CN probably can't afford to produce Futurama in the first place.

Well, just thank god Fox is showing stuff like Oliver Beene, or else there would be fewer sucky shows on TV. Without Oliver Beene, my life would have meaning.
BrainSluggoMar 17th 2003, 00:00
The "Boob" episode (one of the worst in "Simpsons" history, I haven't been able to finish it) last ran on February 2nd, right after another rerun (the "Marge Gets Muscular" ep). So, the episode has now run twice in the space of a month-and-a-half, while a load of "Futurama" eps continue to gather dust.

The interviews posted here at CGEF are nice to have, but the one I really want to read someday is with that -------, -----------, --------ing ----- Gail Berman, in which it is asked to explain why it thinks this is a brilliant strategy.
BENDERMar 17th 2003, 00:00

Jesus! I almosy broke my television, when I saw The Simpsons start at 6pm instead of Futurama. That's it for me, unless they air the last of the Futurama episodes I'm boycotting their channel completely, then again I'm just going to bocott because their not the same network they used to be.

Well,that's FOX for ya.
JamesDeanMar 19th 2003, 00:00
fox definitely sucks for "hiatusizing" futurama, but i don't fault them for cancelling family guy.
i watched the last season on downloaded files and man, they are LAME... its all just trying to be SO weird that it doesnt make sense...
cowgirlskipperMar 20th 2003, 00:00
I thought that Futurama was cancelled last year as I didn't see it hardly at all. I was very upset, but now that I know it's been cancelled I say that FOX is a _____(insert expliative). Futurama and Malcolm are the only reasons I watch FOX, Malcolm's probably the next to go. They should get rid of King of the Hill, it's so LAME! and leave the good ones on.
