No Futurama during May Sweeps?

Quoting FOX as the source, The Futon Critic announces that Futurama will be replaced with Simpsons and King of the Hill reruns throughout May sweeps.
FOX will have a backlog of fresh episodes of both "Futurama" and "Cedric the Entertainer Presents" for the summer. [...] "Futurama" will be pre-empted for the entire May sweeps period (April 24 - May 21) as at least six episodes of the animated comedy will be left in the can come June. [...] Repeats of "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill" will fill the 7:00/6:00c slot.
This would mean that no more than 4 additional episodes could air this season. In the light of the last few weeks with Futurama being removed from the schedule a few days before it should air, it is questionable if we will see any of those this season at all. Let's hope for this Sunday.

Oh, good. Maybe we'll FINALLY get to see the one where Marge gets her breasts enlarged again. They haven't aired that one in days.
DeepBlackMar 26th 2003, 00:00
That is so stupid, it makes no sence
MytomanMar 26th 2003, 00:00
They are just trying to make peoples turn their backs on Futurama. Fox is out of the will and this time I mean it.
MichaelMar 26th 2003, 00:00

BOYCOTT FOX EXCEPT FOR FUTURAMA!

I'm serious! Don't watch anything on that $#@$ Network excpet for Futurama until they give proper respect to the show. By this I mean until they promote it, put it in a better timeslot, stop preempting it for Krap of the Hill or Simpsons repeats.

Screw American Idle, Malcolm in the Muddle, Oliver Beany, and all the other reality crap they push. The only way to fight them is to turn off the TV. (Reminds me of a Simpsons episode). Hey but, at least we can now turn on the DVD instead!
ScottOMar 26th 2003, 00:00
...Yeah, the DVD with FOX, 20th Century Fox.. et cetera, plastered all over it.
ChrysMar 26th 2003, 00:00
Typical... once again Fox tries to dry out the show by letting its fans starve to death whilst they are craving for the few remaining episodes. Shouldn't we start a fund for resurrecting Futurama on another channel? It might well be worth it!
TimoMar 26th 2003, 00:00
To take the cynicism to a level that I have yet to see it go, has it occurred to anyone that Fox started this latest batch of pre-emptions immediately *after* the petition was delivered? I'm thinking Fox launched a spite campaign as their response.

Though it could just be network logic. "Huh? This thing is popular? Well, then don't show the rest of it, for crying out loud! Let's really drag it out! If we can keep them around long enough to watch 'The world's blankiest blank,' they will naturally love us."
dulouolubMar 26th 2003, 00:00

DBCraderMar 26th 2003, 00:00
yeah... that makes a LOT of sense... it's "sweeps", so will fill the timeslot with repeats instead of new episodes... why not just show INDEPENDENCE DAY or JURASSIC PARK II a few more times each??? Or better yet, just 3 straight hours of Marge getting big knockers!!!
LeastlikelytoworkforFoxThMar 26th 2003, 00:00
I'm not surprised by this. All of this is only going to add fuel to the burning fire of piss-off Futurama fans. If Fox has any brains, then they should go ahead and air the rest of the Futurama Season 4.(I refused to called it Season 5 since production stopped in early 2002.) Fox just gets stupider by the day. Don't they think if they air a "fresh" new Futurama it would increased their ratings? Obiviously not, since they are too busy betting it all on two dying shows. (No offense to Matt G. but The Simpsons are actually running out of ideas. The only major storyline that hasn't occured is one between Futurama and The Simpsons in a cross-over show but it doesn't look like that is going to happened any time soon. As for King of the Hill, unless they move the hell out of Texas and have a major change to the show somewhat, that show has past its prime. It's sad but true.
WoodMar 26th 2003, 00:00
It doesn't make sense that Fox would show repeats of the Simpsons in place of new Futurama episodes - it's bad for ratings and how many people really want to see another Simpsons repeat when they can watch one every other day of the week? Let's just hope that until the cut off date we will see at least a couple more episodes of the current season. We could get lucky and Fox would decide to air the last few episodes they have left during the summer, but I'm not holding my breathe, they would probably show more Simpsons repeats and King of The Hill - which have both run past thier prime and have become a chore to watch.

Timo: "To take the cynicism to a level that I have yet to see it go, has it occurred to anyone that Fox started this latest batch of pre-emptions immediately *after* the petition was delivered? I'm thinking Fox launched a spite campaign as their response."

That would corespond nicely with the stonewalling we've recieved on the letters. Did anyone ever get an answer from FOX on their snailmails? Coupled with the automated "Futurama will be back with all-new episodes, yadda-yadda-yadda" emails from AskFOX.com, it all looks like a deliberate strategy from FOX, to kill the show at all costs.

Step 1: Put it on hiatus

Step 2: Ignore all questions and inquiries from fans, creators and industry magazines alike.

Step 3: Really, really screw up the airing, and I mean REALLY screw up.

Step 4: Let the rest of the episodes drown in Summer hum-drums

Step 5: Kill the show with glee, while laughing maniacally.

Screw you FOX, you can all go to hell and die for all I care.
happyman_85Mar 26th 2003, 00:00
Well that's it! I'm boycotting fox and will keep eye on this website to know when the last of the new episodes are airing and I will tape them. Futurama was a great show that definetly never deserved this.
robert32optonlinenetMar 26th 2003, 00:00
They'll surely have the remaining episodes on DVD in Germany before they air here. With the US editions to quickly follow (if you consider well over a &$@#%#$@% year quick!) Personally, if there were a guarantee they will be released on disc let fox put on whatever they want. The NY Fox channel on my cable system is a mess of interference anyway, with audio buzzing and a picture that looks like I'm watching the show through burlap, I'll take the discs instead. Just one question: WHY can't we get these sets any sooner than this? Why is a US produced show available to GERMANY first? They get season 2 already, and we get war. Great deal!
ChrysMar 26th 2003, 00:00
By the way, I rather anticipated this move - only I expected Fox to replace the hated show of the dissident Groening (not willing to sell his creation with body and soul to Fox) with war reports, showing George W.s glorious legions giving Saddams stubborn fighters Iraqui civilians whatfor...
PiedOffGuyMar 26th 2003, 00:00
YYYYYYYYYY ... GGGGGHHHHH!!!!!Me angry ,me Hate FOX!!!!!!Me hit them with club, fox dies
RorschachMar 26th 2003, 00:00
I knew it. I knew that we wouldn't have to wait long before Fox give another undeniable proof of their lame judgement. Announcing two episodes in a row was just too good to be true; hoping to see all the remaining episode this season was way too much to hope for, that souded way too normal. But now that thing are back to abnormal at Fox, the question now is will there even be two episodes in a row? Will there even be one this week or next week?
I keep my fingers crossed. In fact I'll cross evrything I can find around me.
FoxsuxsFuturamaRulesMar 26th 2003, 00:00
Fox must be eviler than that Saddam guy. Okay that might be a tat too much evil but Fox have prove to us and Matt Groening that they hate Futurama. Fine, okay but torture us with old worn-out episodes of Simpsons and King of the Hill? That has to be evil. If they hate the show so much why don't they just sell the show to another network so Matt can continue with the best futuristic show on Earth? Are they afraid of Futurama becoming more successful exceeding the point of The Simpsons' current postion? They must be and that is why that they want to destory Futurama just like they destory Family Guy and The Critic. I don't know which is worse, this bullshit they keep pulling on us or the Gulf War 2. At least there are dvds and maybe that is why that they are slow on releasing it in the US. They want to torture us. Damn Fox to HELL!
tastycratMar 27th 2003, 00:00
Wow, either this has gotten really ugly, or there's "Good News, Everyone!"

This could be the latest stage in a bitter feud with Matt Groening.

This could be FOX holding the last episodes hostage so that Groening or Cartoon Network will have to buy them out at a princely sum.

This could be FOX holding back those last few episodes in hopes of showing them next year along with some new episodes. Say they commission another 13 episodes, plus what's left in the can. That's a full season, and it would take several months to get everyone reassembled and to make the new episodes.

The last option is optimism based on Futurama's recent successes (the DVD orders, the Cartoon Network ratings, the publicity and articles, the petitions, the awards).

More likely, though, I think this has just become an incredibly ugly feud.
JamesDeanMar 27th 2003, 00:00
I just have to say, all you people who are saying to boycott Fox and not watch it... to what end? Unless you're one of those people with a a Nielsen box or something, its not going to make ONE LICK of difference. They can not send some signal down ur cable line to determine what you are watching. The only way a boycott would have any effect whatsoever, is if everyone mailed the people who buy commercials and TELL THEM. Obviously FOX doesnt care what we say, maybe they'll care what their sponsors say.
CarbitoMar 27th 2003, 00:00
WHY?
Why would Fox want to show repeats when they have all these new episodes just waiting to be aired. They always do this. I don't get how showing more repeats of The Simpsons could be more profitable than showing a new episode of Futurama. Fox are fools!
BrainSluggoMar 27th 2003, 00:00
If Gail Berman starts complaining of eye or chest pain, then it's a fact. Don't mess with the Voodoo. (jabs hideous dogfaced troll doll with pin) Take that, you ugly b****!

Seriously, I think we can agree on the game plan:
(1) Boycott FOX.
(2) Let FOX sponsors know. Don't get hung up on the "why;" just let them know it's because of the way FOX treats viewers AND talent alike.
(2a) A uniting catch-phrase might be in order. "Tell 'em Bender sent us!" is one (polite) possibility.
(3) Tell FOX all about (2). Tell Gail to expect the catch-phrase to turn up in conversations with sponsors.

20th Century Fox has now been included in the Axis of Evil.

OUR ONLY HOPE IS EITHER DVD SALES AND CN RATINGS WILL OPEN FOX'S EYES OR ANOTHER NETWORK MUST BUY IT. FAILURE IS EMINENT ! if we could have seen this coming down the road fox might have cared about our petiton now futurama is only an excuse to keep groing around to make simpsons ep's because they suck at tv!!! Which saddens me because on its own merits it surpassed it's predecessar (simpsons)in every way and at least should have had a chance. if it does'nt come through it was fun and entertaining and a very nice 30 minutes to look forward to.but i saw a fox ceo in the background in a meeting with saddam connection with terroism 100% certain.
