New David X. Cohen Interview

Amy website owner and Hotdog and DVD Review editor Andy McDermott managed to get a nice interview with Futurama executive producer David X. Cohen.
Q: Another show that had an emotional ending was the one with Fry's fossilised dog, 'Jurassic Bark'. I think the ending of that took a lot of people by surprise, because it was really quite harsh.

A: That one, some people felt we had gone too far, and you may have your own opinion about that! My assistant Michelle, she was literally mad at me for about a month that we chose that ending! People are all over the map on their responses to that episode. It seemed like once we actually started writing that one, it turned more and more into an episode about Fry and Bender and Fry's past, [...] and at some point we realised that we should not bring the dog back to life, because the episode is not really about that at all. That's why we decided to go the way we did. But I certainly sympathise with the people who think we went too far on that one! Personally I really liked it. I think we're going to submit that one to the Emmy awards, in fact, really go out on a limb and put out on that people either love or hate!
The questions were partly prepared on PEEL. Have a go and read it. Questions only paraphrazed will appear in the two aforementioned UK magazines, so, might as well try to buy them.

Good interview. Liked it.

Man, Fox sucks! Fox sucks real bad! Just wish a huge catastrophy could happen to them. Simpsons get unlimited resources, yet episodes are crappier than ever. Really poor.
Very bad.

That episode was sooo bittersweet...I actually cried after I watched it. "Jurassic Bark" deserves to win a thousand awards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a show starring a 1 Eyed alien, A walking garbage can, a kid with no brain waves, and a senial old crack pot can make any man cry; then this episode certainly does by all means deserves AT LEAST an Emmy award. Unfortunatley Fox will most likely do everything in it's power to stop this from happening! Dammit Guentar (President of Fox remember?) get it together fall off another tree!

p.s. I loved/love that episode! Since Semour looks sorta like my dog! (too bad it can't sing walking on sunshine) :(

This episode is also the most reviewed one on this site. I remember that it broke the record within a week of it's original airing. Any show that has touched so many people deserves multiple Emmy's.

I loved that episode. I get choked up just thinking about it. As sad as that ending was, I'm glad that they went with that ending. It made for a powerful story.

Fox should be ashamed of themselves. I have been boycotting that station since the last Futurama aired and will not watch Fox again until the next Futurama episode.

Does anyone know if the issues of Hotdog and DVD review which include part of the interview are on sale at the moment, or will they appear in future issues. I presume that the interviews in dvd review will appear with a review of the season three boxset!

I think Hotdog is just out, or out any day now. I know it has a picture of Daniel Day-lewis on the cover and something else about The Gangs of new York. I bought the current issue of DVD review a couple of weeks ago, it's not the one with anything Futurama in it. Since it's a Monthly magazine the issue with a season 3 review and DXC interview won't be out until the end of May/start of June, just before the DVD is released.

I would like to ask David Cohen if they would consider really going all out for the extras on season 4. By making a definitive Documentry more than just a promotional featurete. I think they should also include a list/featurete of all of Futurama's awards/aclaim. A photo gallery of all the merchandise would also be cool.
I have also noticed that the extras listed for season 3 on most sites no longer include the 3D models/turnarounds. If they have been dropped, i hope they are used on the season 4 set. It would be even better if they are infact still included in Season 3.

Quick addendum: I finally got the fourth S3 disc and the 3D models *are* on there - oddly, though, not the PE ship and building. (I hope that they're being saved for the S4 DVDs...)

The issue of Hotdog with the interview is out (in the UK) this Thursday - it's got Robert De Niro on the cover. Not sure when DVD Review is out, but it should be soon afterwards as their deadline was just after ours.

Great interview!! Made me feel like pre-ordering the season 3 dvd box. In fact, that's what I'm gonna do right now! :)
