Well, while we're beating dead horses: I was standing in a store talking to the owner, and, knowing he was a "Futurama" fan from the Cartoon Network airings, I mentioned that "The Sting" was coming on Sunday. Two separate, complete strangers stopped what they were doing and came over to get the details. They love the show but had no idea FOX was still showing it. (Which of course is A SMALL $#%@&!#@! WONDER, given the way it's been scheduled.)

Finally a new episode. We have waited for almost 2 months. And this episode i`am really looking forward to.
I allso want to thank Patrick M. Verrone for the wonderfull episodes he have written.

I hope this ep ranks up there with A Clone Of My Own.

@Paul Bradford - Sky won't be showing The Sting for at least a fortnight. They'll be publishing their new schedule tomorrow (monday), so we'll find out then.

Damn... now that I've seen the proper The Sting description, it's got me excited. Ah, well.

I can't wait until they air this one in the UK. It's gonna kick ass!

Sky have just started showing Futurama season one in the Sunday 7:00 slot, with a repeat the following Saturday at 8:00. I hope that they start showing season '5' episodes in that slot in the next few weeks.

Slightly if topic but, didn't Futurama comics #13 come out a few days ago, how about an article or reviews thread?

I'll see about the Sky schedules tomorrow and the comic the day after. Didn't have the time to buy that yet (and importing takes a bit).

YES!! It was funny, and really really weird. That's all I have to say about the Sting.

ARGH! Is there anything more infuriating then turning on Fox every Sunday at 7pm to see if by some small chance Futurama is on, and then the one day it is, forgetting to do so until around 7:22, and catching the last 5 minutes of a new episode? If there is, I never want it to happen to me...

All I caught was a wierd campy dance number, and Leela and Fry talking at the end. Please tell me the beginning was good.

Beautiful... No other words for it. There were some very funny parts, and some very emotional parts again. I really like the more emotional turn Futurama has taken. I mean, the Fry and Leela thing, isn't that just a great way to finalise the storyline in the next few unaired episodes... Wooptiedoo Futurama!

My fav ep of all time. It was romantic and funny and romantic and moving and romantic. It made my insides all happy. Even my cat was purrin' all the way through it. Now i want the dvd to come out so i can hear the commemtary. Hopefully when they do the commentary they actually get katey involved.

This is *not* the last episode Fox is going to air. There are 7 more episodes left. These most likely will be aired over the summer, possibly all in a row.

Actually, I did see FOX air a promo for this episode the other day. Who knows; maybe they're actually starting to see the potential the show had. At least they're getting their come-uppance... They killed off a definite cash cow! Futurama's the best show to ever be aired on TV.

Yeah, I saw the promo too, although they picked one of the few unfunny jokes to put in the promo.

I thought that this was a great episode. I can't believe that FOX thought that some stupid reality show would make them more money. Look at hoW loyal the fans here are. That's the kind of loyalty that you can't buy! Doggone you FOX!

FOX ran 2 "promos" last night for this episode(SATURDAY MAY 31st) during the end credits of both the first 1/2 hour of COPS and A.M.W. They were just audio promo's but it's better than nothing.

Oh yeah, HOME THEATER magazine reviewed the Region 1 DVD in their latest issue. They struck out at FOX TV for cancelling the show but did praise FOX HOME VIDEO's great DVD presentation.

It's right up there with Luck of the Fryish... Now I just need to see Jurassic Bark (stupid football).

did anyone see before the opening credits when they showed the sunday night line-up (with the characters from every show EXCEPT futurama running around in the background) said "and now a brand new episode of futurama" and then they had homer saying "d'oh! ... i mean, woohoo!" i thoguht this was fox's way of insulting the show with one of matt groening's own creations, but maybe im looking into it too much

This episode is not as good as the evil santas...or love and rocket...I think obsoletely fabulous episode should be funny...or the one where bender gets a sex change to compete....hehehe!! :)

Replace it with reruns of some Hillbilly Family,
racing dinky cars, a disfunctional family, over rated sports and new Sitcoms that get less ratings than an emergency signal!

that was, without a doubt, one of my fav eps ever. gaaah, fox sucks!!! on the rare occasion that this brilliant show is aired, it gets maybe one mention in the previews for the sunday lineup, but never any commercials of it's own, as malcolm in the middle and the simpsons often do. i'm just glad it's at least recieved the rabid cult following it deserves.

i mean, last night's ep was phenomenal!!! the depth, the drama, the metaphorical implications! not to mention the all-out hilarity!!! *contented sigh*

god, don't the idiots at fox realize that people aren't going to stick around for dumbed down reality programming much longer? people need a familiar show to watch, a constant. why do you think the simpsons is still so popular after 12 seasons? sure, other shows are fading, but futurama, which was always just as high quality as the simpsons, is great as ever! with the right promotion (no, make that ANY %@*$ing promotion), futurama could have been just the hit that fox has needed all this time. did you know that it is still being beaten in the ratings by nbc, cbs, AND abc? it is the lowest rated major network (unless you count the wb and upn, which nobody does.) ok. i'm finished with my rant for now....oh yeah, FUTURAMA ROCKS!!! bye now ;)

That "d'oh.... I mean whoo hoo" has been running on FOX SUNDAY since Christmas 2002. I've seen it run even when FUTURAMA slated to run. I really don't see it as an "insult" to FUTURAMA.

However I too was angry when I didn't see one FUTURAMA character during that entire intro spot. Now that was an insult.

I've seen Fox run that promo before too. Although this was the first time I saw it without Fry and Leela dancing in the background.

I too would consider it an insult although, that would be giving Fox too much credit for actually having brains.

One of the best eps THAT I HAVE SEEN and i put that in bold because i have't seen them all yet.
Anyway that ep was romantic, funny and full of good stuff.Fox rally sucks,but from what i heard Futurama got good ratings on Catoon network but if they are hoping to keep their ratings up the need some new eps. They have alredy shown every show until "Where No Fan has Gone Before"

mmmmm... bee stings.... the first 5-10 was hilarious while thes last part was pleasantly hallucinagetic.... heh... love the different homage to movies (can't spoil ya, just watch the show and you'll know what I mean *blink, blink*)... you need to watch the ep twice to notice some of the details.... Fut season5 dvd better come out soon so I can throw away my vhs copy ^_^

Finger-licking good, this episode. Fox really know how to rub salt into my wounds, because the show has been getting better and better with each episode since the rumors about its cancellation started circualting.

Anyway, about 'The Sting'. Am I the only one picking up multiple Enders Game (by Orson Scott Card) vibes in this episode? The Speaker for the dead, the giant (and sentient) insects, the hive queen travelling through space with a man who's a thousand years old (Fry). Ender analogy or not this was one of the strangest and coolest episodes of this show ever. I'd say keep up the good work but...

*sigh* I really wouldn't mind all this emotional crap if they actually did it well. Every time they attempt anger, sadness or compassion in Futurama, it just doesn't come off at all well. Also, the way Billy West (as Fry) is pronouncing "Leela" this season is really starting to piss me off. It's not "Llhyeeluh", Cletus...

I miss the episodes where I actually get to laugh..

Why can't Matt Groening take Futurama to another station if Fox doesn't want it anymore? Of course he has a contract with Fox but since Fox is not ordering new episodes anymore, this could be seen as effectively ending the contract. Simpsons can stay in Fox if they can thrive there. Or if Groening feels he needs to punish Fox for not allowing Futurama to thrive, he can take Simpsons with him too and soon we will see Futurama and Simpsons both in another channel.

This episode showed that great, funny cartoons can also be very touching. The ending left me awe-struck. I would have to put this one in my top 5 for Futurama, and my top 10 for all animated shows.

If you didn't see it, fight, crawl, and beg to find someone who taped it.

Gor-Gor, do you really think a massive television network would fork over the funds to develop a show if they didn't have a watertight contract forbidding it's creator/part-owner from just up and taking the show for a rival network to make money from? It is incredibly naive to think FOX would allow it's shows (wanted or not) just to be picked up and sold to the highest bidder at the drop of a hat..

So, we have some nobody telling us Billy West doesn't know how to do his job. Well, don't worry...in seven more episodes you won't be bothered by it anymore. You could always break into the business yourself; then you could show us all how it's done...couldn't you?

As for rival networks adopting shows from competitors; FOX itself acquired "The Critic" from ABC, "Buffy" switched networks, and several other shows past and present have moved from one network to another. FOX may have "The Simpsons" under contract, but they do not own Matt Groening.

If Matt left then the simpsons would stop and Fox know that, I think that they don't like Futurama because it takes Matt away from the Simpsons (which sucks). They will never let Matt leave and if they have there way the simpsons will never end.

Making an observation on HOW someone does one small aspect of their job is neither saying they can't do their job well, nor is it attempting to somehow prove that I could somehow do it better. How is my critique any different to the pages and pages of gushing praise above?

Do you go about your life verbally attacking art and film critics because perhaps they themselves don't have the skills or resources (or desire) to produce the kinds of works they are commenting on..? Michaelangelo didn't paint the Sistine Chapel solely for the enjoyment of master artists.

I'm a great fan of the show, but that doesn't make me oblivious to it's shortcomings. It's only a television program, after all, so getting all wound up over a comment made on the internet makes you look a bit silly.

I know what you mean with water-tight contract but at least Groening can sue Fox for not ordering new episodes AND not allowing him to go, because no new orders mean no money for animators, dubbers, editors, directors, producers, writers, and a bunch other people.
Another tactic could be, that Groening just stops Simpsons (I mean come on, it's in its 14th season, time to stop while you're ahead right?) and end his relationships with Fox. THEN he can do whatever he likes and continue Futurama in another Network. Hell he could even revive Simpsons if he likes. It can't be that complicated. Perhaps we could collect money so Groening can get the lawyers who set OJ free?
