Dammit, isn't this the second time that Futurama was pre-empted for that particularly lousy Simpsons ep? Stupid Fox. And this just when I was looking forward to seeing new Futurama eps two weeks in a row. I'm hate Fox more and more every day.

I was suprised to see a FUTURAMA promo spot on my local affiliate (WPGH FOX 53 Pittsburgh) for Mar 2nd's new episode. Haven't seen one of those for more than a year.

I too saw a FUTURAMA promo spot on my local affiliate (FOX 26 Houston). Brought back memories of when they used to have these on all the time and they showed new episodes every Sunday it seemed like. All those years ago... Good times, good times.

It's nice to see CGEF back to normal, and I'd just like to thank mArc and the rest of the gang for all the hard work...and patience. In spite of assorted snotty comments from certain Futurama sites about CGEF recently, CGEF remained (and remains) my first-check source for Futurama news. (The other sites basically put up fan art...and got what little news they posted after--you guessed it--CGEF. Next time keep the petty jealousy to yourselves, okay?)

i think the reason they are putting the simpsons there is because the show Oliver Beane premiers on that sunday right after that timeslot... i guess they think that if they put the simpsons in front of it people might watch whats next :

That's true, Mads; it's also listed on the sidebar of the main CGEF page. But then, next week, it's another "Simpsons" rerun. A bad one. One that's already been rerun at least once that I can recall. And this is hardly the first time an unaired brand-new "Futurama" ep's been kicked aside for a well-worn "Simps" or "KotH" repeat.

For example: tonight's episode, the superhero parody "Less Than Hero." FOX's probably running it tonight in order to exploit the popularity of a certain superhero movie at the box office...which is fine.

...Except it's been sitting on the shelf so long, I had once predicted (so very long ago) that it would air in time to exploit the popularity of "Spider-Man" at the box office.

And there's no legitimate excuse for that.

Hurry up and show the rest of the eps, FOX. Then I will never watch you again.

I've just finished watching the season '5' premier of Futurama on Sky One. I know that you Yanks experienced this late last year, but since then you,ve had what, only 5 or 6 episodes! The good thing about UK television is that when a series starts it is aired on a regular basis until it ends. So we'll be treated to a new episode every Sunday at 7:00! Jurassic Bark (which, from what i've read is a good one) is scheduled for the same slot next Sunday 9th, with Crimes of the Hot being repeated a day earler Saturday 8th at 8:00.
I really enjoyed Crimes of the Hot, especialy the "None Like it Hot" video, the scientists getting red carpet treatment at the environment conference, Benders new friend Shelly, and Bender accidently "pleasuring" a beer keg (possibly the most hilarious and disgusting joke on Futurama ever!)

I have just now finished wacthing "Less than Hero" on FOX here in the U.S. Wasn't that good. Hope next weeks is better...if they show it.(knowing how fickle of a network FOX is)

on one of the many oliver beane promos i saw this evening they said it would be right after the simpsons... and the scheduled time for oliver to premier is 730pm next sunday

I guess Fox's indecision can be explained by Sunday night's Promo for the lineup, At 7pm EST, after explaining all the shows coming up that night except for the 7pm show, here is how it went;

Announcer: But first, an all-new Futurama!
Homer: D'oh! I mean Woo-Hoo!

Homer must be a Fox Executive.

Actually, if you look now, Oliver Beane has the 8:30 slot for a premiere and Futurama is back on at 7:00. To quote www.snpp.com : "Don't you just LOVE the FOX scheduling department!" ;).

But in zap2it.com, that Simpsons rerun is still listed for the 7:00 p.m. time slot. I think Fox still doesn't know what the hell they want.

The FOX network has a online forum. Just go to a FOX show website like ANDY RICHTER's and sign on and go to FOX Forum.

On a more positive note, here in England the new season 5 (that started last week) is continuing tommorow with Jurassic Bark, next week i think we get the route of all evil. I was pleasently suprised this morning to casualy tune into sky one just as a pretty long trailer for season five was airing. It showed clips from a number of episodes (i recognized certain scenes from framegrabs on this site). Hopefully sky one will continue to treat this season with a bit of respect. It's iteresting to note that even the mighty Simpsons only gets a new episode shown every other week, whilst futurama continues every Sunday at 7 with last weeks repeat shown on a saturday at 8!

They'll just keep on preempting till someday they'll be able to say: Hey, we preempted it so often that we even got a sixth season of Futurama!

I would like to submit my theory on Futurama. We have 130,000 signatures for Futurama, FOX is still pre-empting the show, and DVDs are being made. We all know the obvious outcome: FOX cancelling Futurama. But, could it be possible that FOX is holding a few episodes back from airing, to have those episodes air before the end of the year (December 2003), and they will make a last minute renewal? Well, we're all hoping for this, but I say it could happen, because we all know if FOX saved just four or five episodes for next season, they would have enough to last until January of 2004, which could give the show a return in March, with enough time to make new episodes. I hope I am right, and I guess we won't know till the last minute (May, when FOX announces it's schedule).

Its a sad thing to see the show go threw the lengthened death. But just as a question. Is there any possibilty of Cartoon Network picking up the right from Fox the create and air new eposides and seasons? Futurama has already enjoyed more success on CN in a month than it ever had on Fox.

To answer YoungHov116's question, I think it is very possible for Cartoon Network to pick up Futurama and produce new episodes. It did it with Baby Blues. However, there are two major problems there. First, it seems as if Matt and Co. are ready for the end of the series, and maybe do not want to make new episodes. They would also need to hire new writers. Second, Futurama is probably quite expensive, and Cartoon Network doesn't have the money to throw around like FOX. Now, don't get me wrong, it is possible that Cartoon Network would pick up the show, produce new episodes and go from there. I'm just saying it isn't likely.

I didnt' need to see it once. The Simpsons hit the level of stupidity that I actually don't bother to turn them on anymore. I haven't seen any of the new episodes since January.

I think that Fox is looking to kill the show. They are purposely keeping the episodes unaired probably because the contract prevents Matt from shopping the show to another network until the Fox commissioned episodes are run. That's why they haven't cancelled the show. Once it's cancelled that would allow another, smarter network to pick it up.

Forgive my ignorance towards American TV, but why is May the deadline. How come seasons have to end at this point why can't shows just run all year long like Englsh TV?

Lots of great points made here. For the last comment, I believe that the summer time gets a smaller audience anyway, so they usually fill schedules with reruns (or as in the case for the past few years, game shows and reality shows). Also, the actors probably aren't for the idea of working all year round. I guess a million dollars an episode for some people isn't always enough. I wish we could see our favorite shows all year round too, but for animated shows, it takes longer to make new episodes, and with all TV shows, quite an expensive price tag comes with each episode of a TV show. Think about it: if Friends aired 40 of trhe 52 weeks a year (leaving maybe 12 weeks of reruns), then that would equal at least $240 million a year for the cast, and a lot more for everything else. Plus, more episodes of a TV show would mean smaller lifespan, as the quality would quickly diminish. And finally, in the summer, we are treated to new shows,scripted and unscripted. Just, the quality isn't as good as the regular TV season. Want good shows in the summer? That's a great reason to subscribe to HBO.

To cutedge, The Simpsons usually gets great ratings at 7pm. Why Futurama doesn't, is quite simple: The dodos currently running FOX do not promote Futurama, so when the show does air, the ratings are usually lower. But keep this in mind: we have 130 000 signatures, enough awards in one year to keep any network happy, GREAT ratings for a show that gets zero promotion, a huge legion of fans online, and what is FOX doing? Prolonging the pain. Like someone else said, FOX is going to get a sixth season out of Futurama, simply because they have 11 episodes currently ready to air, and only 6 episodes that aired this season. So, if they saved 8 or 9 episodes, they could have another season. Sad way to see a great show die.

Gosh, if Fox have to that, next tihing we'll be watching the "X-Files" movie the Sunday after that, instead!!!

I'm sorry to see that once again FOX is trying to sink Futurama ratings. At least now I can see the reruns on Cartoon Network. They make money off the show, and FOX looks like a bunch of fools yet again. I cannot believe that they would do this to the guy that helped put their network on the map!

While #12 makes good points about programming, for a show that's under the guillotine, the May "deadline" doesn't apply. Recall that many Family Guy episodes aired in the summer months of June, July and August.
Perhaps something more sinister as #9 suggests is afoot.

Everybody wanna know why Fox is starting to air such crap like "Married By America"? 'Cause they don't have any good shows to air. (Probably a lot of you has figured that out already...oh well.) Let us just all hold hands and pray that Fox will get their brains back.

I think I just figured out why FOX may hold onto a few episodes for a "Season 6".

They aren't stupid - well, they *are* - but they are smart enough to know that the same curse that befell Futurama, constant preemptions due to sports programs running over, will kill any show (short of the Simpsons) that they put in the 7/6 slot.

So - if they hold back 5 episodes that are paid for and that they have no expectations for anyway, they can fill in the holes created by "no football" weeks until January, at which time they can then launch a new program uninterrupted in that time slot. From FOX's perspective, they may even make a few bucks from now viewers who will tune in to Futurama due to Cartoon Network's hard work to publicize the show's existence.

So - one of the best programs on television will be used as a placeholder for some future piece of crap that will benefit from "all new show!" publicity and an unwavering weekly time slot to build viewership.

Don't look for a cancellation notice in May. Instead we will get lip service that FOX has listened to the viewers and will be bringing back Futurama for a sixth season. Then, come mid-January, when those last few episodes have served their purpose, it will quietly be allowed to slip beneath the waves.

I think Damitol (#19) is right. I have lost all respect for FOX and will try to steer clear of any of their future programming (except for the remaining Futurama episodes), unless they redeem themselves by buying new Futurama episodes. They have treated one of my favorite programs worse than an ugly step-child and I can't help but take it personally.

Well I just saw a promo on FOX tonight for this coming Sunday. They reviewed the entire lineup and FUTURAMA wasn't on the 7pm slot, another SIMPSONS rerun. I hope this is an advertising error.

Having two episodes scheduled in a row! Sounds great, but didn't this exact situation happen a few weeks ago, with only one of the episodes actually airing (Less Than hero)? I predict that Teenage Mutant... will air, but the following week the Why of Fry will be pre-empted. This is a shame because I know that The Why of Fry is very eagerly anticipated.

I agree with James. Two episodes in a row is just too much to be true. Either that means that the second episode will be pre-empted or that we'll see those two episodes but then we'll have to wait a hell of a long time before seeing another one. Who knows what other undeniable evidence of thier lame judgement those losers at Fox are preparing to show?

I have a pretty good feeling that FOX will air FUTURAMA from now on since they will finally have a full lineup with the addition of THE PITTS after MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE. Who knows they may air missed episodes during summer reruns like last summer. I have my fingers crossed.

Due to the fact the war is on pre-empting every network show, the chances that Futurama next week will not be shown or any time until the war is over. Granted, Fox hasn't prempted any of their shows but you will never know with Fox.

In an actual show of programming intelligence, FOX DIDN'T pre-empt its regular line-up... why should they??? When people can turn over to FOX NEWS CHANNEL if they wanna watch that...

Good point DBCrader. But, some people don't have cable so they have to pre-empt on the local chanels in order for people to get the latest war updates. I mean, this is a pretty major war with Iraq and that crazy idiot Sadam. Though anyone without cable are just stupid idiots and need to go back to the 1950's.

Well, they cancelled Futurama to show Jurassic Park II (again). If that wasn't the biggest flop of the three, i don't know what was.

The next chance that Fox gets to pre-empt Futurama and put either a old Simpsons re-run or King of the Hill repeat or even a '90s movie they will do that. I think this is either Fox's sick plan to jack around with the fans or they want to keep CN(Cartoon Network) to get the legal rights to air the last shows of Futurama. However you look at it, it sucks.

the entire problem with futurama at fox is its big brother, the simpsons. the jackass execs at fox are obviously convinced futurama is a distraction for matt, whose sole purpose for existing is to produce more simpsons episodes. (of course, you probably can't blame them; the simpsons have been fox's bread and butter now for 14 seasons)

I hope there will be MORE Futurama episodes like having more seasons then the Simpsons did...sigh........

I really look forward for both episodes! It's to good to be true(and probally is)but new ep'sthat's great. If cartoon network rescues the show it's gonna suck , they don't have the budget to suport a classic cartoon to it's original qaulity or better I would really look for the channles like cnn and abc or even pbs. Those channles have very high ratings and lots of money.They would love to have a money making show which would bring more viwers from fox and back to them.who know's once the simpsons go of the air they may be saved by another network. cartoon network would probally support this by all means.who knows fox may realize the simpsons is a dieing show and may actauly show intrest in the show as a simpsons replacement.there's always hope when another network adopts it(cartoon network)even if it's reruns and would stir it's popularity around and demand new episodes

There is a report on the net that Futurama will not air from the end of April until after Memorial
Day (in other words the sweeps period). New shows will air in June.

On the other side of the Atlantic (Ireland to be precise) where the Fox owned Sky is currently showing season five. We are already up to 'Taste of Freedom' and next week can look forward to 'Kif gets knocked up a notch'. Sky have really started to promote Futurama, running ads for the show during commercial breaks, showing the previous episode on a Saturday and the new one on a Sunday. Sometimes I wonder if they haven't been checking out this web-site? So if you really want to watch the rest of Season 5 I can only suggest that you relocate the land of saints, scholars and season 5.

T-minus 5 days, two hours, and zero minutes before Fox screws us again with a surprised showing of Simpsons or King of the Hill(The one show of the season that isn't very disgestable from the Simpson and K/H). Sky is pretty much the international extension of FOX, based primarily in the UK. What I was commenting on is the fact Sky show Futurama consistantly (i.e. every week) until they catch up to FOX.

It is sad, because I know FOX will be making a last check of their schedule, and realize "3 episodes of Futurama in a row? My god, what were we thinking? Where's that Simpsons where Marge gets big breasts. That gets good ratings!" Let's face it. FOX won't be nice now, after what they have put us through so far.

I think i have a good explanation for this orgie of Futurama airing. Since Sky One probably don't have the rights to air episodes before Fox, they must have contacted Fox and told them they are about to catch up to the US season (today in the UK we get Kiff Gets Knocked Up a Knotch)and they need more episodes. The UK season 5 on Sky is going great without interuption and it actually gets a good amount of promotion, with repeats the following saturday at the great time slot of 8:00pm!
So although based on Foxs previous track record there isn't much reason to think that all three episodes will air in a row, if they are getting pressured from a network that is having success with the show,then maybe they will show them!

That's never stopped FOX before. What I'll be interested to know is how Sky is going to handle the final six/seven/eight/nine (depending on how many FOX air) episodes. I doubt they'll move ahead of FOX but it's going to be terribly inconvenient for them to wait for the eps to show in the US.

You're only partially right about the Indiana FOX affiliate (if in fact it was FOX59 in Indianapolis). At 7pm, they've aired a local "weather special" talking about tornadoes and other sh*te. Looks like the idiocy has trickled down to the local level! Luckily, they're going to air it at 11:05pm tonight (Sunday). Good thing I checked the schedule.

This is bloody terrible. At this rate, it'll be 3000 before Fox decides to air all the episodes of the 5th season, by which time my head-in-a-jar will have seen them a million times on Cartoon Network, and by which time there will have been a Voltron remake that DOESN'T suck.

Reruns of KotH and the Simpsons over new Futurama episodes? Both KotH and The Simpsons seem to get a rerun every Sunday. You can probably see an entire season of The Simpsons twice before it goes to Syndication. Of course let's not forget that both KotH and The Simpsons get 2 rerun episodes each day M-F on most local Fox channels (at least the ones I've seen). If I wanted to watch KotH and Simpsons reruns; I can see them during the week sometime. Oh well, all I can do is complain and have nobody who matters listen.

King of the F***cking Hill. That show sucks so bad. It's not funny, the characters are not likeable, and the animation is downright UGLY. How Fox can choose to air more reruns of that disgusting show instead of NEW episodes of Futurama, is simply inconceivable. I've seen a lot of smart TV shows cancelled, some that never made it here (RED DWARF), and I understand Sci-Fi comedies seem 2 have a specific audience, but the truth of the matter is that audiences ARE able 2 understand smart concepts. The success of any series is in marketing; the promotion gets people interested... or, it turns them off. The way FOX promoted Futurama showed that they truly didn't understand the series. It was, and still is, promoted as a "series by the creators of The Simpsons". However true that may be, they are 2 very different shows. No effort was made by FOX 2 promote the series 4 its own merit. They didn't give the series or the public any credit. Most of their current shows continue 2 pander 2 the Lowest Common Denominator, and I believe this is a premeditated effort 2 lower viewer standards in order 2 produce shows that do not need a large investment. I would like 2 see the day when TV is used for educational and artistic purposes only, but this will not happen as long as we continue 2 allow them 2 control us. King of the Hill is terrible in my opinion, and I don't get the FOX logic of airing that and the Simpsons together. Futurama and The Simpsons are more in the same vein coming from the same creator and style... Hmmm... I think that the UK is about to have the upper hand. Tonight the episode 'Teenage Mutant Leela Hurdles' was shown, which means that next week we'll have 'The Why of Fry' next Sunday.
Now, as the show is syndicated out to Sky, that means that we "should" be getting the newest episodes ahead of the US.
I don't get why in the US shows like South Park and Futurama arn't shown in a continuos order, week after week.

Sky One have done a great job with season 5, regular showings, promotion... Next week they're making their first mistake because The Why of Fry has been delayed to the week after because next Sunday is The Simpsons 300th Episode celebration. I would understand this if Futurama was being temporarily replaced with one of the special Simpsons award shows that Sky One are showing all next weekend. But Futurama's timeslot is actually being used to show the first episode ever shown on Sky, the season 1 episode when they get lost in the woods! Come on (yeah it's great) but we've all seen it a million times, i've got it one DVD!
This pre-emption is annoying, but almost exceptable, if it's just a one off!

I just hope The Why of Fry is back the following week, and even better if Sky get to continue the series in the following weeks! This is fully plausable, because as #18 pointed out Fox and Sky are both owned by Murdoch!

I forgot about the bloody simpsons weekend. Still the Why of Fry is a good episode. For those how haven't seen it, look closely at the episode "Jurassic Bark" and the scene where Fry falls into the cyrogenic freezer. What I'm talking about, I noticed and I thought "What the f...?"

Helter Shelter, like the vast majority of The Simpsons episodes done in the past three years, sucked. It was a twenty-two-minute-long parody and string of jokes, without any of the pathos and hope in humanity expressed in The Simpsons' first ten years on the air and exemplified in the pre-1997 episodes. (And of course, Futurama.) Plus, it just got really over the top in the end when Homer meets the cast of Survivor--such a thing would NEVER have happened when The Simpsons was in its prime.

That's the problem with really good cartoons. They either don't go on for as long as you want them to (Family Guy, Sheep in the City, the original Voltron), go under new management and are seriously altered for the worse (Voltron: The Third Dimension, Gargoyles) or go on for TOO DAMN LONG and lose all the qualities that made you want to watch them in the first place (The Simpsons, g'uh).

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't Fox already show that "X-Men 2" special like a month back? I remember something like that pre-empting Futurama.

Well, one day or another they end up running out of ideas. The new millenium marked the beginning of a major downfall for the Simpsons, as if the Y2K bug did affect the brains of the creators. Right now the Simpsons are at the bottom of the abys and yet they keep sinking; I don't even watch that show anymore.

It's a damn good thing that CN is there to give Futurama a part of the glory it deserves. All I hope now is that if by any miracle they restart the production of the show, it won't end up like the Simpsons. As for Familly Guy, I don't really care because personnaly I found that this show sucked.

Why would FOX want to actually put thought and energy into a supurb series like Futurama when they can do what everyone else has been doing and air "reality" shows. ME thinks this is more than a lack of interest on the part of FOX. It's looking more like a personal grudge match.

14. Why do there seem to be so many more repeats these days during the "Regular" Season?

ANSWER:
There aren't really more repeats/preempts than any other show from any network. It just seems that way.

The TV Season lasts from mid-September through mid-May. This is approx. 36-37 weeks long. Most hit shows on OTHER Networks only make 22 new episodes each year (ie. ER, NYPD BLUE, etc.). We always try to make MORE episodes per season. MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, for example, is able to make 24 originals most years, the drama "24" will produce 24 hours this year, THAT 70s SHOW produced 27 episodes this Season and many of our comedies do a minimum of 24 episodes.

24 episodes in a 36 week "Season" means that we MUST AIR approx. 12 repeats/preempts WITHIN THE SEASON. This has always been the case and will continue to be so. We always try to find well-rested repeats to run, if at all possible. (I think you would agree that this is a better solution than completely preempting the show several times in a season!!)

Also keep in mind that most dramas take 8-10 working days to shoot an episode plus approx. 30 days for effects & post-production PER EPISODE. So we need to give most shows a breather now & then.

All very true...but when the repeat of "Large Marge" pre-empts an unaired "Futurama" episode--a little over a month after "Large Marge" was first repeated!--then sequeneretao's "grudge" theory is the only explanation that makes even a little sense.

Sounds like the American system of showing programs and these 'seasons' really sucks.
In the UK everything is shown in order without chucking in repeats to make it last.
Though the bloody Simpsons is on about 2-4 times a day on Sky One and once a day on BBC2. Always shown in no order what so ever.

I notice that with South Park, a couple of new episodes are made, then they'll show repeats, then new, then repeats...so on.

I don't know the legistics of this, but is it possible that another network could pick up Futurama? I mean... thats awful. I noticed that they announced that it was cancelled AFTER signing the Simpsons on for 2 more seasons. Don't know if that's related, but seems a little slimy to me. I read an article in the latest issue of british Playstation 2 magazine PSM2.
After playing the game they are very postive. Saying it is a truely hilarious game, and is shaping up to be the first essential game based on a Matt Greoning creation!
I have noticed that several people have been sceptic about the quaility of the graphics. Well more good news! SCI have doubled the resolution after Matt Greoning specifically requested it!
The article said the only possible problem is that the camera is sometimes obscured by scenery, but SCI still have about a months time to correct this. Other comments basically said that Futurama is in another leauge to most TV/movie spin offs(e.g the Simpsons skateboarding), it really is going to be a good game!

But before that on Saturday at 8:00 I Dated A Robot is being shown. Now for some reason this is the ONLY episode i haven't seen before. I didn't have Sky when season 3 was originally broadcast, and channel 4 stopped season three at Time keeps on Slipping.

Digiguide and a few others list that but I wouldn't get too excited yet. This happened before once (Amazon women?) and Sky pulled it off air eventually. That's why I didn't put it up on the mainpage (yet).

Well it's listed on the radio times site, & that's pretty much as official as TV guides get! I know it's a couple of weeks away and it could change but Sky One (& British TV in general)are much, much more relyable that Fox (sure that's not saying much!).

Now as Sky One have generally not fucked around with the schedule (Except for the 300th bloody simpsons episode), hopefully we should get the next episode on the 4th May. Fingers Crossed

I'm not defending FOX but maybe it's better that FUTURAMA is pre-emtped for the month of May. It looks like NASCAR, like the NFL, is going to run over into the 7pm timeslot during May. Better it be KING OF THE HILL reruns than new FUTURAMA episodes. Of course if it turns out that NASCAR doesn't roll into 7pm, then I'll continue to curse Gail Berman out.

It's such a shame that FOX executives have no clue what constitutes a funny cartoon series. They've continued simpsons which is well stale by now and passed over a new series which showed a lot of promise, if they'd backed it it could have been a very worthy successor to the simpsons.

Family guy was great too and FOX killed it. obviously FOX don't have a self-deprecating sense of humour, they would have killed simpsons for making fun of FOX too except the simpsons was too popular...

Will some of you people realize that Fox didn't kill Family Guy, Family Guy killed itself with it's small staff. Fox was just tired of not knowing when the episodes were in and when they could show them. Or that's what I've heard from some of my Family Guy fanatic friends.

What kind of rating Family Guy was getting when it was running anyway?

What kind of treatment did it receive from Fox? Was it constantly preempted like Futurama or have all the episode been shown without major interruption?

Here in Quebec, we get the show on Teletoon translated in French, it's called 'The Griffins'. But Teletoon is practically the network for cartoons with no future. They're also showing KotH (it's called 'Henri pis sa Gang'(Hank and his Gang)) but that show is a real failure, no one here likes it.

What is the deal? Fox has been crapping all over this show with bullshit scheduling for the past two years....is the show "officially" cancelled or not? Part of me wishes they would just put it, and me, out of our misery and stop relaesing episodes in drips like chinese freaking water torture.

According to a article on futoncritic.com, the show is returning in the summer with AT LEAST six episodes. That is a problem.

Good grief- I'm so ticked off at FOX. It's insane that for years now Futurama fans have had to deal with their crap. Does anyone know if FOX does cancel it, will CN pick up new shows? Fellow Futurama Fans, if you are fortunate enough to live in the UK or Ireland like James, Paul and I, then you might be interested in picking up a copy of PSM2 magazine which has devoted six pages to a preview of the forthcoming Futurama game. As another Brit, Sky have been extremely good in keeping us as close to you Fox viewers as fas as episodes as concerned - as Futurama is in the top 5 for viewing figures.
As an animator - "RoyalCrownChimpokoMaster" is wrong - yes, America writes the episodes et, it is actually Rough Draft Studios in KOREA which makes the episodes. They are wahat make Futurama so watchable as well as the great writing byt th team.

Hey, #18. Of course Futurama isn't a Korean program, but all the animation is made from Korea. It's like first, Matt creates the show and characters, and the Koreans, they copy the characters and draws scenes and such and lastly, puts them all together to make episodes. That's why on the Futurama credits it says "Rough Draft Korea".

Fox seems to be coveting those last few episodes that are 'in the can' even though the show is officially cancelled. Are we ever going to see those remaining episodes or will we have to wait for the DVD of season 4 / 5 to have closure? I'm tired of waiting for new material!!!

I don't care for auto racing myself, but it's hardly NASCAR's fault that it is preempting Futurama. (It's also not the NFL's fault during football season). The fact is, there are 168 hours in a week (or 336 30-min slots). Fox could easily find another time to put it on. Put it on at 3AM, who cares! that's what VCRs are for...

I don't mind that FOX is dragging it out, or even that they don't air certain eps on the east coast (even though I live on the east coast) just as long as all the eps are included on the 4th DVD. If they're all on DVD then I'm cool with it, but what I'm worried about is that FOX will treat Futurama like it always has and release a half-ass final DVD that's missing the final episodes... That would SUCK!!

I'm sure we'll get to see the remaining 5 episodes, I just rather see them NOW than in 6-12 months (with the way FOX is dragging out these final episodes, it could very well be that long).

I'm sure even if they don't air them, they'll appear on DVD. Or bootleg copies will surface on places like KaZaa--that actually happened with the final episode of Family Guy that Fox never aired.

If it's delayed in the middle of these episodes, then "The Devil's Hands" probably shows the day before my birthday(8/18). Well, that'd be nice.
And the SEASON 2 DVD is coming out AUGUST 3rd, about 15 days (nicely timed, FOX's TV ON DVD) before my birthday.
Also, On Monday, CN is showing "FutureStock", one of my favorite episodes.

you know, FOX is doomed. It was on an upswing with "married with children." And they treated that very show (which provided them their daily bread) with hostility. They did the same to futurama. They are driving people away in droves. I'll tell you why they're playing "True Lies", it's because Arnold's latest trainwreck called Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines is coming out July 2, and they want to ride the wave of the 55-year-old Schwarzenegger. Good luck to them, they're going to need it. EVERYBODY has seen True Lies by now.

Just saw the most elaborate FUTURAMA promo in ages. During AMW, the FOX SUNDAY promo actually included equal "promo time" for all shows, including FUTURAMA. Why didn't FOX do this when it was really needed, such as the past 2 seasons.

Wow. It really feels like a regular futurama season, gives the impression that the show isn't dead.
I really don't understand, so many movies but they keep showing the same ones (independence day, true lies). I've seen 'true lies' only once and that's more than enough, the movie isn't that good. If they want to make publicity for T3, they should instead show T2.

And turkinaa, I agree with what you said but would it be really smart to keep the simpsons? That show died a long time ago. The only thing that fox is doing is delay its burial by showing episodes that keep getting crappier season after season.

All the Simpsons writers obviously watch Futurama 24/7, The Simpsons is more sci-fi than Futurama now.

#9: There's a good reason why Fox isn't showing T2. They'd have to pay royalities to Artisan to show T2. True Lies was produced by 20th Century Fox, hence it's probably cheaper to show it.

Only worthy shows on FOX now, including our beloved FUTURAMA: (no particular order)
THE SIMPSONS (Season 14 picked up towards its end); MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, KING OF THE HILL, 24, BERNIE MAC, THAT 70's SHOW, OLIVER BEENE (when I'm drunk).

Like FUTURAMA, the two things that makes all these shows great are heart and character.

I'm glad FOX is showing the remaining season, I just wish it would re-air shows that some of us (like in Pittsburgh) didn't get to see during football season.

Also NBC treated JUST SHOOT ME much worse than FOX did to FUTURAMA. Episodes that were shot and ready to air (including the series finale) were not shown at all. I hope NBC's Jeff Zucker isn't modeling himself after FOX's Gail Berman.

I don't know why FOX can't just air the remaining 5 Futurama episodes back-to-back one night. Dub it a mini-marathon or "farewell to Futurama" special movie thing.

It's not bad enough that these episodes are unaired left overs from season 4. It's not bad enough that these episodes got bumped so far we'll be watching the entire summer and maybe fall. But there's not even a consistently to when they air....I hate having to keep checking the TV guide every week to see if an episode is airing or some crappy repeat of another show.

And speaking of other FOX shows. I find it insulting to claim the Simpsons is a quality show. I was a great fan of the original Simpsons which was unique, highly intelligent and a custom type of humour aimed that those above average. Now is it pure rubbish, not even a shadow of its former self. It's side tracked so far from the original series it has NOTHING to do with the Simpsons (apart from the same voice actors and animators).

Futurama never made it to the same level as early Simpson episodes, but it was certainly on par with later Simpsons seasons that while not that intelligent, were at least highly entertaining.

Fox is worthless. I no longer watch that station except for when Futurama is on. I've blocked it from my TV.

As for any other worthy shows on that so-called network. I can sum it up in one word: "None".

I agree, but would like to add one extra thought. I actually think it's kind of a good thing Futurama was cancelled because it will never fall into that same trap. Don't get me wrong, there are very few people who are as crazy about Futurama as me (I have all the toys, merchandise, even the trash can, and I've got every episode burned onto CDs) but it really worried me that, if Futurama had run for 14 seasons, it would become the same drivel as Simpsons is now.

Now, I would have liked to have seen the show continue until at least it's seventh or eighth season, but honestly I'd rather have it end like it is now than have it be dragged out and ruined like the Simpsons. Futurama has become a martyr, but Simpsons will never achieve that level of respect anymore...

true there are some shows on fox which are okay liek that 70's show and malcum and such, but they dropped titus and lost grounded for life. once all the cartoons they once came up with are gone, so are most of their viewers. i can't keep watching the same 3 weeks of season 11-14 simpson episodes.

Exactly #16 ... the Simpsons is painful to watch now - I don't even so much as smile at a single joke during an episode. I just wish there would be a Futurama movie to finish it off in style (maybe even a straight to video movie? The DVDs have been popular enough).

There's pretty much nothing decent coming out of Fox now - Malcolm in the Middle's about it, plus I see they've got a new Norm McDonald sitcom coming up, he's always a laugh.

Kenny. If you still like the simpsons well good for you. And you're right to say that this show is still "great" if by that you mean "popular". But if you are refering to the quality of the episodes, it's definitely not great. You have to admit that there's been a serious degradation compared to the episodes of the 90's which definitely were great.

I watched Futurama when it first premiered and caught it from time to time when it was on for the past few years (witch i gather was a hit and miss thing.). Now i realize that i lived in a college student drunken T.V. vacum during the end of the 90's and the beginning of this century. All of my shows are gone, Family Guy and other shows that i was loyal to have been wiped from existance by the Despotic rulers at FOX. Now I learn that the last bastion of current adult cartoons is slated for the guillitne, i am without words.

The Futurama writers have always been keen on creating a Futurama Movie - over the course of the DVD commentaries (including refernces in Season 3's) - but of course their big problem is funding

Movies cost a lot at the best of times, and when no-one will air the show (and wont be picked up until all episodes are shown at the very least) then it is unlikely and certainly not in the near future. Which is very sad to say, cos Id be first in line! I'll miss the show a lot.

On the West Coast (Washington) yesterday during their 8p hour, they had a comercial for Sunday's line up, pushing Futurama probably as heavy as Fox ever had. I didn't hear them say "new", but better than there usual "starting after Futurama" stuff.

All I can say is reading this made me cry.

I can't wait for the "Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" too, but believing the fact that the episode is the Series Finale...oh God, I'm gonna start sobbing like a baby...................

We can always hope that they hold true to the Star Trek Model. A decade of cult status. Then in 2015, Futurama the movie, followed by sequels and then, in 2020, Futurama, the Next Generation will be on Fox (The only channel left in the unvierse at the time). In 2030, "Fry" will debut, a series set before Fry went to the Future. By that time, we all will be sick and tired of the whole thing, or dead. Not a bad future, really.

The fans who don't want to say goodbye just yet should turn their talents to writing original Futurama scripts and keeping the laughter alive that way. Perhaps you could post them on this website and have a best script contest or something along those lines. I'm sure everyone would enjoy reading them, critizing them, etc. Perhaps they could be a basis for something more someday. Every reality starts with a dream..., as long as it isn't a nauseating Fox reality show.

Because most of the team are busy working on other projects (they've made one episode and then nothing in the past year and a half), and I doubt Cohen could get them all back together to do a partial season that'll be lucky to get the Family Guy treatment....

Obviously Brian (#38) is pulling your legs. Points to keep in mind: The Futurama production staff and voice actors have moved onto different projects, which they're now committed. No new episodes have been produced in almost 2 seasons (we've been watching unaired episodes) and FOX has already announced their Fall programming, and Futurama is NOT returning.

Also look at how FOX has been treating the show. It's almost never promoted, kept in a bad time slot and continually preempted. Even now they've pushed the remaining episodes well into the summer (when almost no one is watching TV) to almost hide the fact the show exists. It's like they don't want to air it, but have to...

Does this sound like a show that FOX is going to pull a 180 on and bring back in the Fall?

Heck, if it wasn't for following this website and others, I'd never even know these last few episodes existed and were being aired.

Sure Fox likes to make us think that Futurama would be on, then at the last second switches to some old movie. I know it's the summer but THERE is nothing new except for Monster Garage which is still better than that old 'rassling show that comes on at the same time. I didn't know of these two movies prempting Futurama because my old computer died and I had to wait a month before a new and better computer was in my gasp. I was piss off today when True Lies came on instead of a new Futurama but we are powerless to stop the network morons so that is the end of that.

Uh, The Simpsons rock? Sorry, that hasn't been true for a number of years now. The show caters to the absolute lowest common denominator of mindless drones out there, people lacking in intelligence or the ability to pick up on humour more complex than what you'd see on America's Funniest Home Videos. It is not just poor, it is absolutely disgraceful, utter trash as far as I'm concerned.

In the early days it was the most intelligent and well written comedy on American television. The current writers have essentially defecated all over a work of art. Yeah, I feel that strongly.

Futurama never parallelled the original Simpsons, but it entertained me and I rarely found myself bored or disappointed. I like the sci-fi spin on it too, kind of reminded me somewhat of the BBC's Red Drawf in ways. Futurama wasn't genius, but it was good stuff. Cancelled before it should have been. The Simpsons SHOULD have been cancelled a long, long time ago.

In my opinion Bender should not be allowed on TV has to be looked down upon by fox, it most likely has bad content in it if they have not aired it for so long. Or they are just jerks.

My guess is that once all 72 episodes are available on DVD and in our hands - THEN - we will be able to enjoy the continuity of the overall story arc David and the writers worked so hard on.

Well, continuity may be a non-issue with the remaining episodes. The three Bender episodes probably won't have anything to do with Fry&Leela's developing relationship. Though it's hard to tell sometimes from the brief episode synopsis.

I thought the same thing about 'The Sting', but it turned out to be the most emotional 'shipper episode yet.

Fox doesn't like continuity in shows plain and simple. Although there are exceptions but they don't take too serious on the continuity of animation shows.

A question that has me asking, what year is The Simpsons world really is? Is it still 1990, or should I just assumed that they are caught in a strange time warp caused by Futurama's Professor?

Is it possible John DiMaggio was too busy to re-record some of Bender's lines, thus delaying the Bender episodes until later in the season, like The Route of All Evil?

Also, reading the synopsis of the last episode, do anyone think Dan Castellaneta will be back as the devil? Or is this a different Devil than the robot one?

its funny how people are so angry towards the simpsons because it has been running so long. They are real people, trying to make money to feed their families. A lot of the original writers i'm sure are gone, and now there are new writers who are trying to come up with new stuff. But there isnt much new stuff the Simpsons havent done, so they have to go to crazy/weird stuff. If you were a writer trying to make it, would you quit because u couldnt think of a fantastic idea? or would you submit ur good idea and take ur paycheck?

Rubbish. Being such a long running show and exhusting all ideas is no excuse. The reason the Simpsons has become such dreck is because of one thing, and one thing only: the writers. What made the Simpsons so great originally was it kept stories realistic, things we could relate to in *real life*. And of course having a sarcastic spin, looking at the abursities of everyday life: work, school, religion, childhood.

Writing about everyday REAL life is like an unlimited goldmind of humour. I know I could do a better job without a doubt than the current writers.

About Futurama and genius...well I say one thing, episodes like those you mentioned were certainly fresh and unique. Stuff like the ending for Jurassic Bark was completely unexpected, it was a pretty bold and showed the writers weren't afraid to take risks. Sting was intelligent writing too, and Godfellas and Parabox were cool sci-fi concepts explored. A couple of these episodes did approach genius I suppose...but there's been too many episodes like "Three Hundred Big Boys" throughout the series. This is different from the early Simpsons where literally every single episode I can remember was genius.

Futurama had the potential to grow into something more but it was never given the chance. I still enjoyed quite a bit, enough where I've watched every single episode.

King of the Hill... I gave up on that show right after it premiered. I wanted to like it, I even sat through the next two episodes hoping it'd grow on me. It didn't. I was expecting sharp edged humour (much like Beavis & Butthead) that just makes you laugh at pure stupidity and mockery of red-necks. A kind switch off your brain humour. What they offered instead was this bland, long, boring cartoon drama/sitcomm.

The current Simpsons are not even worth complaining about, the series is beyond merely just bad, it's gotten to the point where it's just about watching writers defecate all over what was once a masterpiece of TV art. Futurama sort of set the clock back a few years, it was like watching the period of Simpsons where it wasn't pure genius anymore, but good solid entertainment. A couple of episodes in particular showed it had potential to really grow into something unique that'd stand out above the rest. Too bad it was never given the chance and cancelled before it's time.

King of the Hill was never funny and the Simpsons is old and stale. Futurama was creative, and it was funny. Some people hate it becuse most episodes have plots and Futurama was never the Simpsons, it was better. Too bad fox didn't think otherwise.

News flash Reality: The reason The Simpsons now suck is because it has been REDUCED to a cartoon.

Ever read Matt Groening's "Life in Hell"? (before The Simpsons and Futurama). It was *intelligent* *adult* humour, and so was The Simpsons. It was essentially a cartoon that adults with some level of high intelligence could enjoy and relate to.

Now the Simpsons is just a cartoon for kids, and not very bright ones at that.

Go compare "Lisa's Substitute" (season 3) to any of the garbage produced in the last few seasons. You'd swear it wasn't even the same television show, or even the same characters.

don't mean to nitpick, but Lisa's Substitute was from season 2. And one of the best episodes ever IMO.

And sure, the Simpsons started to really get bad seasons 10-13, but this last season 14 has been pretty damn good, with only a few exceptions. Some of the stories from last season reminded me of a simpler time, when Homer wasn't such a jackass, and the plot didn't jump around 10 different times only to end up at a horrible ending. I am hoping season 15 will be even better than 14, and we will only have those dark Scully ages to avoid on syndication.

Whoah, no need to go on a personal attack. I wasn't trying to be preachy, arrogent or pedantic. That is just how I write. I'm also not some middle age guy complaining about a show that is geared towards a younger crowd (I'm in my late 20's--though whatever, maybe that's old to you).

I agree there needs to be escapist material on television; light material and even fluff can be a Good Thing(tm). Though it's possible to do so without having to forego intelligent, witty and interesting writing. It doesn't matter what age group you are, you could be 10 or 50 years old, it doesn't take much to see that the current writing is just lazy unintelligible garbage being spewed out. The writers either don't care, or simply aren't capable of good writing.

I'm not trying to insult anyone who's a current fan, my hostility is towards the current writers who've ruined a once classic show. If I'm sounding over sensitive it's because we've lost one of the few good television shows left on the air--watching Futurama on Sunday's was like eating something sweet to get a bad taste out of my mouth (it followed after Simpsons). Television has become a wasteland of bad shows, and there are very few gems left.

I like King of the Hill, but I sure don't love it the way I do Futurama and once did the Simpsons. Those 3 shows are the only new shows I watch on the "major" networks. I mean, who wants to watch shows about a bunch of overbearing cops or hot shit lawyers who take themselves way too seriously. King of the Hill is at least better than those type of shows and much better than what passes for comedy the rest of the time.

I know there was once a petition to save Futurama but has anyone thought about a campaign to ask another network to pick it up? It obviously has alot of fans...

Thats a good idea now that cable networks are picking up reruns of Futurama.

Can i place a bet that "Spanish Fry" will feature a street gang in it somewhere? lol, Ron Weiner has utilised them in both his written episodes! ;-)

I gave King of the Hill a chance not once, but twice. (I was dating a Laotian girl, and I was born in Texas, so I had to give it another try when they added Con Jr.) There are some good episodes every now and then, but you could say the same about dozens of other shows that I don't watch. Even Friends has been funny a few of the times I've been forced to watch it.

This has already been answered by other people in other threads, but as to the Simpsons-bashing:

I hear the same thing about every show that's been on for a while: South Park, Married With Children, SNL, Mash, Cheers, etc.

"The show stinks today, but two years ago it was great." And two years later, those same terrible episodes are exemplars of the show's former greatness, now irrevocably lost.

So, to #9, the reason the Simpsons haven't aged is because the last two years are always the worst in history, and three years ago is always part of the classic "good old days."

There are definitely good and bad seasons of every show, but it's rarely true that the past two (or three or four) seasons stink while the rest were brilliant.

Anyone who actually watched the Simpsons would realize that two and three years ago were possibly the worst seasons ever, while this season was very good, and last season wasn't bad.

Similarly, seasons 1 and 3 weren't nearly as good as some of the later years.

It's easiest to see with SNL, simply because it's been on for so many years. You hear the same things about Will Ferrell's departure as you heard about Belushi's--and yet just a year or two ago his cast was the worst ever.

So, maybe it's for the best that Futurama was cancelled, or you'd all be complaining that season 7 stinks compared to season 5, and then that season 9 stinks compared to season 7....

Good point payn. I wish there was a season 6 to be griped about... Has anyone though about the direct-to-video market? With the popularity of the dvd sets seems like there would be a well-established fan base to market dvd's too directly without being aired on TV first. After all, look at those Olsen girls after their show was cancelled. They've made a fortune in direct-to-video and they're not even funny or good actresses. Granted, 6 year old girls aren't going to beg Mommy for Bender's latest adventure, but seems to me it would still be worthwhile based on the other dvd sales.

Man this show is awesome, everyone I know enjoys it, cant't believe they are pulling it so soon.... smart, creative, funny ...I guess it wasn't for what FOX considers to be the American audience.

To Payn: How interesting but I just going to assume that The Simpsons are just stuck in a ageless state. Maybe one day the truth will be explain as a special Halloween episode or something like that. They did make a joke about Lisa's growth in an episode called "Behind the Laugher" where Homer admits that he put anti-growth pills in her cereal. Maybe it is the year 2003 in the Simpsons world and all of whoever is in this Simpsons world are still the same age. Well, at least Futurama made it clear it is the year 3000 when it first came on. I think that is the only animated show in previous years that told what year it is in.
