Can't get enough Futurama

Futurama on TBS for Summer

Annoyed with CN removing Futurama from its schedule for the rest of the summer after July 24th? Well, here's something to compensate it: TBS Superstation (another AOL-TW channel) just announced that they will pick up both Futurama and Family Guy for weekday summer reruns.
"FUTURAMA and THE FAMILY GUY have proven to be stellar hits among adults 18-34 for the late-night Cartoon Network Adult Swim crowd, and we are confident they will prove to be equally popular during the afternoons on TBS Superstation."
Starting next Monday (the 7th) Futurama will replace 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' at 2PM and be followed up by Family Guy at 2:30PM ET. Their schedule page does not yet reflect that change though.

This info came from a press release Tom Herald pulled off of Business Wire and put on TV Barn. If you're looking for the release and it isn't on Business Wire (I assume they hold them for 7 days or so), go to TVBarn.com, go over to the TVBarn2 mailing list and search for Futurama.

I don't know who Tom Herald is and never visited tvbarn, but the release is available on Turners official press site (I'll link it from the article). Several people emailed me about it (you included) while I was sleeping.

Sweet, i get TBS but i didnt get Cartoon Network! More Futurama for James!!!
BrianJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
Fox must be so confused as to why networks want the two shows.
JonJul 3rd 2003, 00:00

blahnessJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
uhhhh sucks for me since i work for a living and wont be able to watch futurama at 2pm on weekdays but good that it is going to get out there through another source
JUNOJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
I THINK THIS ISN'T GOOD FUTURAMA IS GOING TO GET OVERPLAYED AND THEN NO ONE WILL WANT TO SEE IT
SX2003Jul 3rd 2003, 00:00
If this is true, would it be censored due to the fact that it is on at 2PM and not on late night? I know both shows have been on earlier than they are now but 2PM on a afternoon on TBS? To me it makes no sense for it beening on TBS other than beening a AOL-TW channel. I am not complaining, it just seems odd that TBS would have primetime animation on at 2PM in the afternoon.
HawkingHole4001Jul 3rd 2003, 00:00
Will this be on Monday-Friday? Because that'd be nice. Now every day I can see what Family Guy episode I slept through! Yay!
VamsiJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
I stopped watching the episodes on TV ever since I got the DVD sets. Though I think it's great that Futurama is getting more exposure and other stations are taking notice of its popularity.

Does anyone know if FOX is planning to show any reruns of Season 5 after the last episode airs? If not, I hope they make it to syndication soon.
JamesJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
It doesn't matter how much Futurama is played. Although us hardcore fans may stop tuning in to every episode after a while and simply watch it on DVD. Just think that every episode aired has the potential to get more people into Futurama. I honestly think that Futurama is currently getting more exposure and generating more interest than ever before (even though it's cancelled). I wouldn't be suprised if in a few years time it gets renewed. And even if it doesn't it can still be aired on different stations for years to come.

(#8, JUNO) You're an idiot, did anyone tell you that lately?

Don't be a retard. There's plenty of Futurama for everyone!!!!!
ScruffyJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
Dose TBS have the money to make new episodes, or is that out of the question now.
YoungHov116Jul 3rd 2003, 00:00
Good news, Fresh Prince is what i usually watch anyway. Now its even better. YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!!
theguywithnofaceJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
well this summer i have been going to sleep at 8:00 in the morning and waking up at 5:00 in the afternoon so now i have to start goin to sleep at 5:00 in the morning to watch it but its definatly worth it. Another problem is futurama is also my dads favorite show, and he's in his 50's so he happens to be working during futurama so ill be taping them.

another thought: the more channels futurama is on the more it will be noticed. this will hopefully lead to a new season of futurama
JoshJul 3rd 2003, 00:00
meh, another crappy timeslot for futurama. 11:00pm was the best one it got after fox pulled it out of the 8:30 slot.
IcehousemanJul 4th 2003, 00:00
#17: Well, it's time to catch up to the 80's and buy a little device called the VCR. You can buy these blank tapes (no not the kind of tape you use for Christmas presents) and tape stuff you like to watch, then watch it at your own convience with the help of said VCR. The usual retail price is right around $25.
zoobyJul 4th 2003, 00:00
or you could use a dvd burner...
peteJul 4th 2003, 00:00
tbs must be retarted.what they should be doing is showing reruns of the simpsons and king of the hill.these are the 2 best cartoons fox ever aired.futurama should have been cancelled years ago by fox.
kothloverJul 4th 2003, 00:00
futurama sucks koth kills it
RyanJul 4th 2003, 00:00
I think there's two different groups AOL-TW is trying to reach. Young men (18-34) can watch Futurama at night on CN's Adult Swim. Others including children (older than say 7) can watch it on TBS during the day.
alittlegirlJul 4th 2003, 00:00
(#20, #21) What the hell's matter with you two? Unless you're the same person, except disguising yourself in a crappy nickname. Go away, and Futurama beats KotH anyday!!
WeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeJul 4th 2003, 00:00
'bout damn time
RoyalCrownChimpokoMasterJul 5th 2003, 00:00
I see Juno The Severely Retarded is back crying croc-tears that he/she/it is afraid no one wants to watch "Futurama" or read the comic or buy the DVDs or come to CGEF. Trying EVER so hard to convince all of us that we actually aren't here. *snicker*

#23, I'll bet "Juno," "pete," and "koth lover" are all the same loser, desperately trying to convince us he/she/it is a chorus of booming voices, rather than one pipsqueak fart lost in a strong draft. It smells for a brief second, then it's gone and you've forgotten it ever existed.
BrianJul 5th 2003, 00:00
The decision to air Futurama and Family Guy on TBS doesn't surprise me. Both TBS and CN are owned by Turner Communications so the shows really haven't changed hands, they've just switched channels.
BrainSluggoJul 5th 2003, 00:00
Enjoy it while it lasts. Animated shows bip back and forth between these channels for promotional purposes: when the "Powerpuff Girls" movie was released, the TV show was aired on The WB--for about two weeks, as it turned out. CN's "Space Ghost Coast To Coast" started out as "Cartoon Planet" on TNT/TBS, and of course ABC's saturday-morning lineup is largely a Disney Channel promo. It never sticks, though...
dedvirusJul 6th 2003, 00:00
TBS updated their schedule, but they spelled it "Futurma." use spellcheck next time, boys.
IcehousemanJul 6th 2003, 00:00
#28. Great, you ruined my little joke about Futurama being replaced by some show called Futurma...
PatrickMurphyJul 8th 2003, 00:00
Sweet! The two best shows! Futurama and Family Guy Rock! I'm Watching them right now!
JUNOJul 8th 2003, 00:00

Don't mind #20, Pete is actually Gail Berman when he isn't at work and in drag.
LullabyJul 11th 2003, 00:00
Finally, a channel the Canadians actually get! But they pre - empted "Futurama" yesterday and today for some crappy movies, right after I found that it was on. *grr*
fRYZCHICJul 22nd 2003, 00:00
koth sucks!!!! 4 eva
SpleeJul 30th 2003, 00:00
FYI I don't think a spell check would pick up the word 'Futurama' as it isn't a word- so telling TBS to use one would be just plain silly.

More Futurama = More fans.
More fans = Goodness.

PS: Only Americans can stand King of the Hill. And even then, onl ones with low brain activity.

Splee.
ratfinkJul 30th 2003, 00:00
That's great that they are going to pick up Futurama but it doesn't do me any good as I am at work at the times that it will be aired. Make it an evening show and that would be better.
RoverAug 6th 2003, 00:00
Way better. I'll be a school soon. For us it's on a 1 p.m. Oh, and to #33, Gail Berman is a girl.
MeLuvBenderAug 7th 2003, 00:00
Yay!Now I can still watch that lovable lil'robot on the TV!^___^
Fry is cool,too....in a freakish sort of way...

I just started watching Futurama, and it's a great show.If it was never shown on TV again,I would go force people to show re-runs or I will bite their shiny metal tooshie...

BENDER FOREVER! ^_____________^
"I love stealing,I love taking things!"

"Have you ever thought of turning off the TV,sitting with your children, and hitting them?"

"BOOOOO!You suck!Bring on Bender!"

Fry:There's four identical castles?!?!
Bender:Each more identical then the last
